My wife and I went to celebrate our anniversary. The service was bordering on pampering without being a nuisance. The food and wine was outstanding and the crab cakes the chef made for us (not on the menu) were the best we ever had.
We will be back.

My husband and I, along with about a dozen of our friends, have thoroughly the artistry and style of Gail and Mike's dining establishments for over twelve years now. We have never had anything but delicious

Had a nice meal with my wife and another couple tonight until the owner asked us to give up our table because others were waiting to be seated. Apparently there is a time limit in which to enjoy your meal. :(

It gave the restaurant a fast food type atmosphere. Too bad because the rest of the evening was pretty good.

Pros: Diverse menu and good food.

Cons: Feeling rushed so that the owner can turn the table...

We waited 15 minutes to be noticed at our table. When my girlfriend mentioned her dietary restriction (no dairy) she got a surley response from both waiter and the kitchen... it was like how dare we even come here try to alter the chef's recipe! The food took over 30 minutes to arrive... and the waiter stopped by to let my girlfriend know the delay was because all their vegtables were pre-soaked in butter so they had to cut vegtable especially for her... it was clearly irritating them. I had ordered a steak medium and it came back almost rare. When they took it back to cook it more it came back charred and burnt. Even at this point I was not going to complain, but the waiter looked absolutely pissed because I didn't eat my steak. When has asked why I told him it was burnt and didn't taste good. I DID NOT ASK FOR ANY CONSIDERATION... but still when the waiter came he told me "I tried to get management to give you a discount but WE DON'T GUARANTEE OUR MEAT IF IT'S COOKED OVER MEDIUM... AND YOU SENT IT BACK". I was angry at his response since I did order the steak medium AND I only sent it back because it came back rare! But... life is short and I decided just to pay the bill and never, ever come back to Maximillians' again... and I suggest you consider avoiding this arrogant, surley, over-priced establishment as well.

Cons: Service, Attitude, Food

We have been going to Maximillian's for many years and have always had great food and service. It does sometimes get crowded around holidays, but the owner has always gone our of her way to be accommodating. We recently went for dinner with a large group, still everything was delicious (you have to like well-seasoned & spicy), the service was prompt and all ten couples with us were very, very pleased. I'm sorry for the couple of negative reviews, it must have been a truly bad day for the staff and certainly out of the norm.

Pros: Great food, great service

.

I have gone to Maximillions many times and get great service at the bar. Twice we went, both times a party of four and received terrible servce. Both times we had Joan as a waitress. She totally ignored us, disappeared for long periods of time. We moved inside as we thought the service would be better. Every time we needed something we literally had to go find her. I am writing because I told me daughter to go to Maximillions Grill and Wine Bar. She told me that the food was great but the service was terrible. The waitress kept disappearing. She was offered a drink refill after she finished her meal. Guess what the waitress's name was? Joan.

Pros: Best Pizza in the triangle

Cons: Worst service

We have truly enjoyed going to Maximillions and in the past have encouraged others to make the drive to Cary and try it out.

Unfortunately, we waited 45 minutes to be seated no host or hostess on duty. Appetizer arrived - no silverware. Drink orders arrived 30 minutes after ordering them.

When I spoke to the owner regarding this she became very defensive and began blaming our waiter who had been outstanding. She growled at him about the missing silverware in front of customers. When I reminded her that SHE had seated us, and that it was rude to yell at/blame an employee in front of customers, she was quick to inform me that she was the manager/owner and that she could snap at whoever she wanted.

That was our last meal at Maximillions...sort of sad.

Pros: Pizza and Salad are amazing

Cons: Owner's Wife/Manager

Decided to finally go here and try some differerent pizza. These are individual pizzas but good size for one person. The Neapolitan is stone baked and the crust is crispy. The grilled pizza is billed as having a very thin cracker like crust. DO NOT GET THIS CRUST as it comes out very soggy and limp. If you like the toppings on one of the grilled pizzas you can get them on the Neapolitan crust. Ate at a table outside but for some reason the waitresses couldn't handle the very few people that were there. We wondered if they were also serving tables in the adjoining restaurant. Went to the bar to catch the end of a game after we were done eating. There were a handful of people already there watching but for some reason the bartender insisted on playing her CDs loudly on the sound susyem. You'd think she'd have the common sense to play the audio of the game HER CUSTOMERS were watching. Once she knew we didn't immediately want a drink (we still had the ones we were drinking when eating the pizza outside), she kind of ignored us including wiping off the mess that was on the bar in front of us. Won't be going back.

Cons: A little overpriced, bad service, loud music at bar

This was one of, if not the best meal my wife and I have had in our 10+ years since moving here. We had heard about Maximillians, but had not tried it until Friday evening. I can't believe a place this good is right here in our backyard. We had the beef tenderloin skewer appetizer to start - it was served over a bed of sticky rice, marinated in a soy/ginger, extremely tender. I had the smoked porkchop served over a stuffed chile rellano. I would not have thought to pair these two together, but it was amazing. The chop was huge and cooked perfectly. I had enough for lunch the next day. My wife had the crab and shrimp stuffed mahi - again..perfection. Foe dessert, we shared the carrot cake - which is made there fresh. Nedless to say, we will be going back. I was in a bit of a food coma when we left from eating too much, but if you are looking for an upscale place with a diverse, ecletic menu, try Max's. PS - this is the first review I have ever written here, but the experience was so good, I felt I had to share!

Pros: creative, fresh, amazing presentation

.

My boyfirend and I went to Maximillians last night and it was insanely good. We kept looking at each other with looks of disbelief because the food was so incredible. The soup of the night was lobster bisque...best soup I have ever had. We also had the scallop appetizer which was amazing . Both entrees were great. We finished off with key lime pie. Everything is a unique twist on the same boring dishes we all have over and over. The chef is obviously very creative. It inspired me to write my first review of anything....ever. Please go! You will not be disappointed. I noticed some people commented on service, but our service was fantastic.

Pros: Creative flavors and comintions make food exciting and enjoyable

Cons: You may have to wait, so prepare to have a drink at the bar.

I am very surprised to see the poor reviews of Maximillians. My husband and I recently moved from Raleigh to Cary, and this is the best restaurant that we have found in the Cary area. They have a talented chef and the food is delicious. It is as good as Michael Dean's or Humble Pie in Raleigh. The atmosphere is also good, which is hard to come by in Cary. We don't have kids, so I can't speak to kid friendliness. However, it is definitely a good place to go to celebrate a special occasion, or go on a date. We've been 3 times now and have always had good service, although each time we have had the same male waiter. The food is not cheap. It's generally around $20 per entree, but well worth it in my opinion. The desserts that we've had there were fantastic. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a really good meal in Cary.

Cons: It's fairly popular so you may have to wait without a reservation.

I'm glad to see others' complaints about the slow service and poor attitude of one or more female wait staff; until reading other reviews I thought maybe I was expecting too much. Tip: try to hold out for one of the more mannerly male waiters. The food is well prepared but I would have rated it three $$$ rather than two. I'm amazed to see Max's listed as "Kid Friendly." There are no children's menus, child portions or discounts for children. I've been a dozen times and never seen a child in the restaurant - mine are well behaved and appreciate good food but would not have the patience to wait to be seated or served here. It is also a noisy place, often appearing to host large and boisterous business associates, making conversation difficult.

It took forever to get seated even though we had reservations and the food was excellent but it took an eternity to come out as well. Basically for a 7:30 reservation we were seated by 8:30 and started eating dinner at 9:30. And to top it off we had a server who had a horrible attitude. Maybe it would be good for take-out - just call 2 hours before you need the food.

Two of the best and most memorable meals I've ever had, have been had at Maximillians. Simply amazing and delicious food. Excellent, respectful and non-intrusive service. The Espresso-rubbed ribeye is awesome, the BBQ Korean beef is great, specials and cocktails also incredible. Highly recommended.

We had reservations for 4 at 7:30. We arrived on time and we were waiting in the area near the front door. We didn't really want to go to the bar and we stood there for a while and were asked again to go to the bar to wait. It got to be 8:00 and one of our party went to ask the hostess (tall blond) when our table would be ready. She said they were cleaning it upstairs. We continued to wait for a while longer and the hostess passed by us on the way to the bar and we attempted to ask her again about our table. She did not stop, just pointed to a table that they were cleaning downstairs. What happened to the table upstairs????? I don't know. There was a 4 top that had been empty near us for about 15 minutes and I was unsure as to why we didn't get that table. The hostess was very rude and walked by us numerous times and offered no explanation or apology. I don't mind waiting when a place is busy, but take responsiblity and at least offer an apology and give an update on an estimate as to how much longer.
That being said, when we finally sat down, our server was knowledgeable on the menu and the food was excellent. I would highly suggest getting the bread as an appetizer. I would recommend the restaurant based on the food, but I would recommend going on a week night hoping it wouldn't be as busy. My biggest complaint was the hostess. I pinch of politeness would have gone a long way.

I tried Maximillian's for the first time last week and had a friend not recommended it, I probably would not have known it was there. The restaurant is in a little strip mall right off Chapel Hill Rd and it is pretty small on the inside, with about half its space taken up by the kitchen. We dined on a Friday night and we had a reservation, however the restaurant had a few empty tables and I wouldn't have described it as "packed". The food was fantastic, I'd describe it as more of a classic menu with an eclectic spin, but not very Asian. Really the only Asian-inspired items on the menu were the sashimi grade tuna and a spring-roll type appetizer. Apparently they change the menu from time to time though. They offer a lot of specials as well. I had the grouper off their menu and it was very flavorful. The portions were quite large as well, no need to get appetizers. Also they brought out some wonderful warm rosemary bread with a great melted cheese on top, served with a balsamic-olive oil mixture for dipping. The wine list was not very extensive but they do have a nice little cocktail list. The pomegranate martini was refreshing and unique. Be prepared to spend money here, the menu had some average priced entrees but others were decidedly more. On to the not-so- impressive part of the evening, the service. For the meal prices here I expect a little more attention on the behalf of the servers. The restaurant was not overly busy but the service was slow, it took about 15-20 mins to get our drinks from the bar after we ordered them. We had to flag down our server to ask about our drinks and he blamed the slowness on the bartender. He didn't come back after bringing our food to check up on us or refill water and we had to flag him down for our check. Overall the food here is very much worth the price and potential slow service, and if my experience is the norm, just be prepared to spend a good 2 hours here and you shouldn't be disappointed.

Having read the other reviews I was surprised that this is a reflection of those. Let me start by saying the food is excellent but the service is way below par. This is more a kitchen problem that a server one, although they had some inconsistences as well.
The first app arrived a full 10 mins before the others. The first entree even longer before the others and the worst part is was way undercooked " pork tenderloin" so it had to go back and anoth 15 minute wait ensued. A 7:30 wait list pre call saw us seated at 8:20.....
I suggest that this restaurant is worth the visit however do not go on a weekend since the aggravation takes the pleasure out of the meal and the ability to handle efficiently a full house is lacking.

This was our second time at Maximillians. We phoned to make 7:30p reservations for Saturday evening. They don't take "reservations" for two, but instead put you on a phoned-ahead list. We arrived at 7:25p, and they sent us to the bar. The bartender was not polite. Rude is a better description. We were finally called for our table at 8:30p. For a restaurant as pricey as Max, our waitress wasn't up to par. The food was worth the wait ... excellent flavor. This was similar to our first experience at Max ... long wait, non-professionals, good food.

My husband and I made reservations for Valentine's Day dinner 1 1/2 weeks in advance. We'd been to Maxamillian's before and liked the food. We got there for dinner and were shown to our table-which was 1 foot away from the kitchen and 2 feet away from the bathroom. When my husband asked if we could be moved to another table, and were willing to wait to do so, we were told that the dining room tables usually booked 2 weeks in advance. Had I been told I'd be spending alot of money for a romantic dinner by the bathroom, I'd never have booked the reservation. We left immediately-and won't be going back. For the same prices, you could go to Margeaux in Raleigh and eat better food, and look at better restaurant decor. I will never go back to Maximillian's-and will advise others not to do the same.

We wanted to try something new before the play, and Maximillian's was perfect in every way. Close in tables give it a New York metropolitan feel, but not TOO crowded. Service was prompt and friendly, the food was TO DIE FOR. I had Mama Criollo Pasta (or something like that). It was such a unique blend of deliciousness with just a little kick. Hubby had a steak which came with lots of fancy side things that were also just fabulous. I saw a lot of other plates on other tables that looked so fancy and delicious and the smells from the kitchen - heavenly.

If this is "new American" cuisine, I'm proud to be a patriot. We'll be back many times.

Pros: Best food ever, Chic, metropolitan, Decent prices

Cons: , Parking lot puddles

My sister and I had a wonderful time visiting Maximillians, on the recommendations of someone working in a neighboring store. Yes, it was crowded, getting seated took a 30+ minute wait at the bar, (and no reservations on the weekends), but believe me -- the food was fantastic and worth the wait, and the atmosphere...certainly didn't feel like being close to home ! Luckily we ordered an appetizer platter and split an entree' (and since the portions were generous, that was more than plenty for the 2 of us.), and shared a bottle of wine. The price? Surprisingly affordable. I'd go back there in a heartbeat...(Note to Self: Take husband there soon).

Cons: , crowded wait 4 table

I have visited Maximillians a number of times and have always enjoyed myself. Servers appear to be quite knowledgeable of the menu items. Wine List offers a great deal of affordable choices. Fairly inexpensive. Great Food!!

I was first introduced to Max's for Friday night drinks and dinner with friends. This is the best place to cap off a week, take a date, and impress your business associates. At one business dinner we enjoyed the company of several Indian guests that were vegetarian. I'd forgotten that Max's veg. menu was limited (at the time). Our guests were so impressed by the dishes traveling to other tables and the delicious aromas from the kitchen they said, " We'll give up a day in paradise for this!" and ordered non-veg selections! I've been impressed that Max's retains many of the same servers from +3 years ago; a record in the restaurant business. The meals are flavorful, creative and put many nice winery restaurants to shame. Bon apetit!

My husband and I have eaten here twice within the last 2 months. Wonderful food. Extremely flavorful. Not sure why everyone says it's a beautiful restaurant - looked rather average to us and a bit on the small side. However, food more than compensates for ambiance. This one might be the best we have tried in the triangle.

axalillians is so good, there is no reason to eat anywhere else. Everything Ive had there tastes distinct, and there are always new specials to try. If you like flavor, herbs, spices and excitement, then this is where you want to eat. If you are a meat and potatoes person, I would eat elsewhere. Considering the very high quality of the dishes, I think that price is quite reasonable ($18-$20 entree & $8 for appetizer).

My complaint about Maximillian's is its refusal to take reservations on Fridays and Saturdays. What this does is encourage/compel you to go to the bar and drink. That would not be so bad if there was adequate bar space. My wife and I had to stand crammed like sardines for 40 minutes before we got a table. Also, the restaurant is very noisy -- it needs some sound proofing to deaden the noise. Food was excellent, however.

The evening we ate at Maximillians the wait person tried to convince us that the overcooked cioppino was supposed to be that way, with tough clams and mussels! Very disappointing dinner.

the transformation a simple Caesar can make when grilled and topped with fresh spice, grated fresh parmesan, croutons and Michael's dressing is an astonishing culinary coup. And, while your there, try any entree for a taste explosion that I firmly believe is on par with any restaurant in the world. Hot attractions include:
Whole Thai Crispy fish(Drum stuffed with shrimp, jalapenos, chilles, and their usual spices).

Veal Chop w/eggplant-stuffed raviolis(?), portobellos, squash and zucchini covered in a peanut sauce concoction that you will lick the plate for.

Everything is phnonmenal but the sauces are where it's at....Doesn't matter what they put them on!

Maximillian's is the best restaurant in Cary... so good, I hate to recommend it because it might get too popular!

I was so happy to see that Maximillians is back! And the new restaurant is BEAUTIFUL! The food continues to be the best and most unique in the triangle. The wine list is outstanding and probably the most reasonable in the area. The service is fantastic and it is refreshing to have knowledgeable waitstaff. The wait is worth it at the cozy bar, and although it can be a bit crowded, barmaids continue to work their way thru a tight crowd to get your order. (Even for a glass of water for the non-drinkers!) Welcome back Max!

We ate at Maximillians this weekend, of course it was packed and we had to wait over and hour. It was well worth the wait. The chef is all about some heat!! Maximillians has heavy asian influence with coconut milk, thai basil and curries.
There is something for everyone. Pizza, pasta, steak, veal and lamb. Not too vegetarian friendly but there were a few items. Go on a weeknight if you don't want to wait. Try the Crispy Fried Whole Fish!!!!

Anyone with a taste for the culinary wild side should head to Maximillians for its casual-chic California bistro setting and fusion fare. The menu is full of offbeat flavor combinations, but it works. Owner-chef Michael Schiffer turns out…
