What a FIND!!!

by Gale N.

I found Murray's online. I was searching for affordable tires for my full size SUV. They had want I needed and with a google map in hand, I took off to find them.
Their directions, right next to the big Harley dealer, were excellent help finding them.

Every one there from the friendly knowledgeable voice of Rock on the phone, to the pleasant positive efficiency of the young woman at the front desk and the meticulously conscientious service technician that fully communicated with me was incredible!!!

They understand how to run a service business!!! I am 52 years old and spent many years as a retail manager and I have never experienced such a positive business encounter - I left there with great tires, a good deal, and a new found respect for the fact that there is a business that knows how to offer a good product, at a fair price, and treat you with efficient, knowledgeable respect!!!!

Not only that, I had forgotten to ask them about a hub cover that I had lost a few weeks earlier. I called back the next day and they were able to immediately direct me to a source for a replacement. Before this I had spent weeks calling used car dealers, dealerships, and searching the internet finding no options other than purchasing a new one at an outrageous price.

I am guessing that Murray was the dad that started the business, back in 1959. He was apparently of the caliber of Sam Walton and his son has certainly followed in his footsteps and carried on the business with an incredible insight into the concepts that no large corporation and very very few small businesses ever seem to get. Hallelujah, the down-to-earth, intelligent American entrepreneur is not extinct!

Great place!

by Pushpa P. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 7,246

Good place for used cars. Very friendly and helpful staff. The place is always busy, and might have to wait for sometime before your turn comes. But once your car is in, it's just a couple of minutes.

I got a used tire which was almost new for a very low price.

Awesome!

by K W.

Blew out a tire the other day and was in desperate need of a new one. Being a college student, I couldn't afford the $80 other places where trying to get me to pay. Someone recommended Murray's so I stopped by.

Granted, it did look at little shady (I'm a tiny young college girl!) but everyone there was friendly and nice. They looked like they were doing some renovation of their waiting area, so it was a little cramped.

Chris and John (sp) helped me out. They explained I need an alignment but didn't push it on me like some places. Said to come back when it fits my budget.

I was in and out in under an hour. Price was excellent for two used tires. Now I don't have to worry about the other tire blowing up on me on 440!

Friendly, fast and affordable! I highly recommend them :D

TOTAL WASTE OF TIME/UNPROFESSIONAL/MISLEADING

by CHRISTEEN S.

I called Murray's to see if they had 4 used tires in the size I needed for my car. I was told that they indeed had 4 available. I drove all the way from Chapel Hill, get there, am told AGAIN that they have them but will need to wait 15 - 20 minutes for further assistance. Thirty minutes later I am told that no they don't actually have my size tires. There was not an apology or explanation as to why I was told twice that they did have them in stock. So for all my driving and time spent the representative has the nerve to hand me a card with the price of 4 new tires written on it. Which by the way, I was quoted $35 for each used tire, will now "ONLY COST ME" $110 each. Not only did I waste my time there when I could have used the time looking for the right size and having them installed I get overpriced for new ones!

Outstanding Friendly, Competent Service

by Ed S.

11/5/08 Murray's is the biggest surprise in the Triangle! I needed four tires for my 1989 Volvo station wagon...not driven a lot...so asked for used tires. They located the hard to find tires; Maurice installed, and balanced them...had me out the door in less than thirty minutes. I'll recommend Murray's to anyone at anytime.

It was a pleasant transaction carried out by inside and outside employees in a friendly manner...with competence. You can be confident using Murrays.

Great job, looks sketchy on the outside, but very good place

by john s.

Yes I am the first to admit, it looks a little sketchy on the outside but they do a great job (I am white and drive a Volvo, felt a little out of place!!). Every SINGLE tire shop that has put tires on my cars has over torqued the lug nuts. They do it with their impact guns set to what must be 150+#, sometimes I think they do it on purpose so you must come back to get the nuts off. Improperly and overtorqued lug nuts are the #1 cause of warped rotors on cars and I had just put a set on my Volvo (expensive) so I didn't want them ruined.

As I was walking out I saw they actually use torque wrenches to put the lug nuts on, NOT impact guns, HUGE BONUS, these guys DO IT RIGHT. I checked the torque after getting home and they were spot on. Awesome awesome awesome!!!

Great Place to Get Tires Repaired and Replaced

by Kevin W.

It always sems crowded, but that have many bays and are always efficient at getting you in. They may not always be the best at searching you out, but go inside to the counter and you will be promptly helped. I always feel like I get my moneys worth here. They are a great bunch of hard working people and I have been many times for different cars I have owned in the year I have been in Raleigh. Murray's you do a great job!! They could improve the waiting area a bit and the outside area, but they are not in business to make you comfortable, but to fix and sell tires. The ONLY reason it has a 4 is comfort while waiting.

the best

by mary w.

Having purchased a full set of tires from Murray's several months ago, (which they were cheaper than the local warehouse club) I've gone back for another set. The staff is beyond outstanding ! Very knowledgeable of inventory and was able to order the tires we wanted within an hour. The technician was very peculiar and insured I was balanced on a dime. Driving an SUV, I've had other shops do the tires and try to tell me it was because of my truck. I drove away from Murrays both times smooth. Even though on the outskirts of downtown Raleigh, an older building, but on the original site...tells you this family owned business must know something to be around as long as it has, how to treat you right, both in the pocket book and in customer relations. I trust the staff fully, to the point we told our daughter if her car starts acting funny or noises go to no other place than Murray's, I'm confident there will be no unnecessary repairs.

Thank you very much Gary & staff.

by JorgeFiscal

Dear Gary,

today I decided to put new tires on my vehicle,
after checking out some other retailers I decided to
make business at your location in S Saunders St.
having the convenience of not ordering and wait for
shipping neither paying extra for shipping fee
some other shops charge.

As usual after I left your store as a happy customer
with my toddler son, didn't realized accidentally
I forgot my wallet with important personal
documents credit cards -and cash-;
after a few hours called to check if by any chance
was this happening at your place;
Without hesitation front desk gentleman
(tall, glasses and a baseball cap, polite african-american
man in his 50's) -apologize for my poor description but I
easily tend to forget names- returned my wallet.

Appreciate such kind action, certainly I don't regret
stopping by and I'd recommend you to my friends
and encourage people to support our local business,
and having HONESTY is a great plus!

Best regards

Mr. Fiscal & son.

Pros: curtious, knowledgeable staff, competitive pricing

Cons: tight parking, full lot (goes to show great place)

great customer service

by dmpennell

I blew out a tire on the way home from a trip to FL. Having spent my disposal income on vacation Murray's was able to replace my tire with a more highly rated used tire quickly and inexpensively!

Pros: Great customer service, lots of choices, knowledgable staff

Cons: not the best part of town

Save Money at Murray's

by twpayne

I recently noticed that my tires were bald and that I needed new brakes. Being new to the area and working downtown, I have not been to a tire dealer here in Raleigh. Luckily I found Murray's Tire. They had the tires that I needed in stock at a great price and did a great job on my brakes. The people were great to work with and explained what they were doing every step of the way. They saved me over $150 compared to the dealership and another tire store. These guys are family owned and have been around for a long time because they treat you right.

Pros: Great Prices, Great Service, Helpful Staff
