I have been a patient of Dr Ann Banes for about 20 years now and am extremely pleased with her work. Dr. Banes is caring, thorough. She takes great personal interest in her patients, their dental health and has on more than one occasion gone above and beyond for my particular dental needs. I have always been extremely satisfied with her work, bridges, crowns etc. Colors/shades always a match. Her innovative approach makes her a sure fire winner. Dr Banes takes pride staying on top of the latest and greatest in the dental world. Again my smile is witness to this fact.
A great looking smile is only good if you are alive to flash it. Earlier I stated she would go above and beyond, the following is an example. One dentist appointment shall never forget occurred five years ago. While checking my teeth she pointed out this little mole under my chin, encouraging me to have it checked. This she did twice more before I would listen to her. The little mole turned out to be early stage melanoma. My surgeon told me to hug Dr Banes and thank her for saving my life. Early detection provided early treatment to save my life. I am still clean of that disease

Thank you Dr Banes for all you have done for me.

When I made my appointment, I clearly stated that I wanted both a regular cleaning & check-up for the same date. They booked an appointment, affirming that my appointment was for both, but once I was in the chair, I was advised that the appointment was only the first of a four-part process: (1) the check-up and x-rays, (2) the cleaning, (3) the consultation about the x-rays, & (4) any follow-up dental work (e.g., fillings, root canals).

I find this process unorthodox and unprofessional for at least three reasons:

First, if this is their procedure, they should be upfront about it upon booking. And certainly not advise me otherwise only once I am in the chair and after explicitly stating that it would be for both the check-up and cleaning.

Second, in whose best interest would it be to have a four-part process? The dentist??s or the client??s?

Finally, the check-up was a non-stop list of all the things wrong. This seemed really odd because I've always had great teeth and almost all dentists have commented on this. So how could I possibly have that many things wrong (and this was before the x-rays were taken)? Especially since my last cleaning was only 6 months ago, and I was given a clean bill of health.

Business Response:

Dr. Banes' Response If a patient desires hygiene on the first visit AND are free from gum disease, we try to accommodate them. Every patient is different and not all are eligible for "just a cleaning." So we usually reappoint based on our findings. But it is in no way a ??four-part? process. Our exam is comprehensive and lasts 1 ½ hours. Who benefits? The patient. How? Well, if the gum exam reveals presence of disease, just a 40 minute cleaning is not warranted. Also, most people see their dentist more than their physician. When I see a suspicious lesion or even an enlarged thyroid, I refer appropriately. I have found skin cancers on some of my patients. Many people show signs of wear as well as fracture lines in their teeth resulting from their bite, grinding or clenching, but it doesn't necessarily mean that treatment is needed. I am obligated to note EVERYTHING that I see even down to a cheek bite. Finally, radiographs are ordered last based on each person??s history and oral conditions and then the treatment plan is generated based on ALL findings. I have shared your comments so that we can be more clear on our process. Thank you.

Being from southern California, I was used to the best cosmetic dentist in the business for nearly 25 years and apprehensive about finding someone locally who was as skillful, professional, compassionate, talented and dedicated to her craft -- but I have to say, Dr. Ann Banes, DDS and staff are definitely Hollywood right here in my own new back yard!

Dr. Banes is a total perfectionist and artisan who took her diligent time working with me to sculpt and restore my smile to my complete and total satisfaction! Plus, everyone in the office is soooooooo nice, including Dr. Banes!

Being in the business where looking good and having a fantastic smile is a must, and I'm happy to say Dr. Ann C. Banes, DDS is my new dentist and she most certainly helped me acheive everything I'd hoped! Absolutely TEN STARS, PLUS!

A few years ago I found Dr. Banes through a family member and I never left! I thought the dentist I had been going to all of my adult life was just as good as any other dentist and his office was convenient. Turns out, he was what I would call a "bandaid" dentist. He just kept putting "bandaids" on my teeth every time I needed a filling or something else done in my mouth. My mouth was full of silver filling and one crown. And the crown was obviously a crown because you could see the silver bottom.I went to Dr. Banes at the encouragement of a family member because one of my front teeth was turning dark due to a previous root canal. I just went to have this one thing checked and I assumed I would go back to my regular dentist. Wrong! I was so impressed with Dr. Banes and her staff, that I wasn't about to go back to my previous dentist. She was wonderful. She didn't just look at the front tooth, she did a thorough check of all my teeth, gums, everything! She was truly concerned about my overall dental health, not just getting money to fix this one tooth problem. After my very thorough exam, I decided that I wanted to continue with Dr. Banes and we came up with a "dental plan" for me. There were several things I wanted to accomplish in my mouth to restore the beautiful smile I had when I was 17 and had just gotten my braces off! I couldn't do everything all at once so we came up with a plan of what needed the most urgent attention. Now, several years later, we have accomplished most everything we set out to do. I have just finished getting my 2 front teeth crowned (no more dark tooth from a root canal) and they are beautiful!!! You cannot tell they are not my very own original front teeth! The shape and size are exactly the same as my own were. The color is exactly the same as my other teeth. A perfect match. I just couldn't believe it. I can smile again!! We haven't had family pictures made in several years because when I smiled all you could see was this dark tooth! It really stood out. Now I smile all the time because I can't believe that they look so real!!! Dr. Banes assured me that I would be really pleased, but that is an understatement. I am ecstatic!! She did the best job! I am still having a hard time believing how good they look.I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Banes and her wonderful, kind and caring staff for ANY dental work that you need. Her office is warm and comfortable. Other dentist offices that I have been to are noisy and uncomforting. Her office is the exact opposite. It is quiet and relaxing. No hustle and bustle there. They do a great job of not scheduling appointments right on top of each other. They allow plenty of time to be with each patient and no one feels rushed. Go see Dr. Banes and Staff. You won't leave either!!Claire Wilson Pittsboro

My husband & I live in Southern Wake County & we drove over 50 miles for a dental appointment per the recommendation of a dear friend, earlier this month. Of course my husband wasn't thrilled about the drive & said we would have to find a closer dentist.

After meeting Dr. Banes & her personable staff, I knew this visit would be well worth the drive. In all my years I have never experienced such a thorough dental examination. She measured/recorded everything from my gum pockets to how wide my mouth could open. She evaluated the muscles of my face, neck and shoulders. She even evaluated my thyroid gland (throat area) & my swallowing. I had never had all this done by a dentist before.

Dr. Banes made an excellent first impression - she was actually human. She asked me about my family and myself, etc. She shared information about herself as well. Her office was nice and cozy; it offered a warm, calm environment. Dr. Banes spent more time with my husband and I than I ever expected. It was, definitely, not the 5 minutes ??quick check" exam that I had experienced in the past from dentists.

One negative though, Dr. Banes found my FIRST cavity, needless to say I was devastated AND I have a tremendous phobia of needle. It was, too, quick and easy for me to get an appointment with the doctor to get this procedure done. Surprisingly, I got the cavity filled and I honestly did not feel the injection AT ALL. Dr. Banes did not numb the entire lower left quarter of my mouth, she only numbed +/- the tooth that she was working on and I didn??t even know this was possible - no numb tongue & face all day for me. The best part is the tooth colored filling looks so natural that I can??t tell it??s in there.

And the hygienist was wonderful and thorough, too. I went in concerned about stain on my teeth. When she was done, my teeth were stain free & squeaky-clean. At the end of the cleaning, the hygienist used an instrument to verify my teeth had been scaled smooth and all tartar was removed - now that's thorough to me.

From what I can tell, my husband had a similar experience. His concern has been improving his smile cosmetically for many, many years?but he HATES DENTISTS. I don't know all the details of his appointment but he asked me NOT to find a closer dentist b/c going to Chapel Hill just 2x a year wasn't THAT bad. He was very impressed with her before and after portfolios and is actually in the process of starting the treatment that Dr. Banes recommended - AND THAT'S A MIRACLE to me.

Go meet them for yourself!

P.S. I do not work for Dr. Banes - I just know a great experience when I have one and I am sure you will concur : )
