I am surprised that there are any negative reviews. I had my wedding reception here (dining inside with drinks/dj out on patio). We had a great experience from planning all the way through to the last guest at the end of a very late night. Everyone was nice and professional and the food was amazing. My husband and I still try to get to Michael's every time we get back to W-S, usually a few times a year. We've never had a bad experience there...ever. Maybe the staff gets busy on holidays (as it seems that is when the bad reviews refer to) or perhaps another local restaurant is posting bad reviews? I really am shocked people didn't fall in love with it...

Pros: Ambiance, location, food

Cons: smaller rooms

My family of 8 had Thanksgiving dinner here and it was the worst experience we've ever had over many years of Thanksgiving dining out. The food was terrible with "processed" steamed turkey, undercooked salmon burned on the outside & raw inside, and prime rib that was blackened and tasteless. The staff was exceedingly disorganized and overwhelmed and we were crammed into a too small space with bright sun beating down on us to the point we had to wear sunglasses while dining. It was made clear that we had a handicapped person with us when reservations were made and when we arrived we were told that our reservations were upstairs. Exhorbitantly overpriced for what it is and merely posing as "upscale" with a severely limited and untalented chef and staff. 20% gratuitiy added automatically so no incentive for wait staff and the service reflects that. Incomplete drink orders taken, then neglected, plates removed while we were still eating, a piano player playing so loudly that conversation was impossible....just a terrible experience all around.

I have been there many times.

I know the owners and the chef.

They are good people.

Entering the old mansion is like stepping back in time.

Take the time to look around and enjoy the experience.

The food is fantastic and the service is the best.

Treat yourself to an evening at Michaels on Fifth Street

in my beautiful hometown of Winston-Salem, NC

Pros: The history and the old mansion make it worth the time.

Cons: It is fine dining, so it can be expensive. Save up. It is still worth it.

We went here for Valentine's day. The restaurant looks beautiful but we were seated in a VERY small room. You felt like you had no privacy and had to whipser the entire time. The service was TERRIBLE. I'm not sure if I waiter even spoke to us and seemed unhappy to be there. My meal was pretty good. I got the filet mignon, but my husbands meal was below average. Prices are to high for the service you receive, atmosphere and the below average food. I would not go back!

My family and business partners frequent this establishment. I highly reccommend Michael's for its exceptional food, unsurpased ambience, and for the caring professionals who always take care of us there.
