Bogart's American Restaurant & Bar is located in the heart of the downtown Raleigh and offers American cuisine, featuring top grade steaks, a large selection of seafood, creative sandwiches and soups, salads and more. Bogart's American Restaurant is open for lunch, dinner, brunch and special events and also caters weddings, corporate events and private parties. Our top rated martini bar is considered one of downtown Raleigh's favorite and also serves a large beer selection.
I really enjoyed the times that I have visited Bogart's. Their Sunday brunch is great and reasonably priced. I take friends who are visiting and everyone has had a positive experience. Many Sundays include live jazz featuring local musicians. Their mimosas are not that good, but Bloody Mary's are perfect.

We love, love, loved their she crab soup. Then we order our favorite soup and what is this? They have changed the recipe? I don't know why some places think they have to tweak things. They should have left well enough alone. The food is usually very good, the service varies a lot. We have been kept waiting for extraordinary amounts of time when we had reservations.

We took my parents here on their recent visit and it was a perfect place for a nice dinner. There is a wide variety of menu options, so that everyone in my sometimes-picky family was pleased.

I visited this bar often when I lived in NC. I often brought out-of-town guests there. It is a friendly environment with great service. It gets pretty packed around 11pm. They have GREAT live music and there is even a small space to dance. Drinks are reasonable priced. There is plenty of parking in the garage right near Bogarts which is also reasonably priced.

The atmosphere is great. Very good menu and good, reasonably priced food.
Pros: Food, atmosphere, price
Cons: A little to dark for me

I went to Bogart?s yesterday with some friends and co-workers. The food was absolutely amazing, and because I ordered off of their lunch specials it was only $6! It?s been a really long time since I?ve had a meal that good for such a great price.
Pros: Great food, Great Prices

I was in Raleigh last week on business and happened to have the opportunity to dine at Bogart's. The experience was incredible. The service from the time my party and I walked in the door to the time we left was impecable. We actually took a table on the patio so we could enjoy a couple of cigars and enjoyed the live music provided by Kyle and Eric. I had the Filet which was soft as butter and I highly recommend the Sweet Potatoes as a side, I have got to get that recipe. I look forward to dining here again when I am back in town!

Some friends of mine and I tried to go here on a Sat. night and we were denied because my friend's jeans were too long. They weren't too baggy or hung off of his butt, they were just too long. Doesn't make much sense. I understand that certain dress codes have to be enforced, like no tank tops, or clothes must be worn appropriately, but if jeans are just a little too long, then who the hell cares. I wish people would remember where we live. It's Raleigh, NC for God's sake. This isn't some thriving metropolis where some of the best bars and restaurants are found. I don't think I'll spend another dime in this place. It's not that fun, the staff is not that great, the patrons are usually frat boys and their pain in the butt girlfriends, and they usually have a crappy cover band that plays the same boring songs every time.

My friend has been talking about the Bogart?s Sunday brunch for years now, and I finally had the opportunity to go. They have live jazz music and stations for freshly cooked waffles, omelets, pancakes, and French toast! I tried a veggie omelet and Peanut butter and banana pancakes, which were amazing. I ended up being too full to try the chocolate fondue fountain but did manage to make room for a mimosa from their beverage station, and that was equally satisfying.
Pros: Variety - there was something for everyone

My husband and I have gone to this place a few times. We usually go there on special occasions. I have never had a problem with it. The food is excellent, service is awesome, ambiance is lovely. The pricing is a little steep, but it's well worth it.
I especially enjoy the martini's. They have such a variety, you'll never get bored.
Pros: Excellent Martinis, Great Food, Great Service.
Cons: none

I wasn't too impressed by this place. The food was average, not great not bad. The atmosphere was great, I suppose this is what you are actually paying for.
Pros: Ambience
Cons: Average Food

Went to the Brunch on October 28, 2007 right as they opened at 10:30 AM. The food selection was very good. The culinary balence of each item was very well done. Good Shrimp and Grits, great Mac and Cheese, and great dessert selection.
The only problem was that the ready to eat selections (The items served in the buffet trays) were all room temperature. This included the bacon, shrimp and grits, the dessert chocolate, the jambellia, etc. Call me crazy, but I kinda expect my warm food to be warm.
I would give the restaurants buffet a 4 star, but the lack of warm food was disturbing, thus 2 stars.

This place gets better everytime we go. My finance' took me here for our first date 4 years ago. I love all the Rocky Top Hospitailty restarauants. You guys are awesome. We went Satruday night and they turned the night around for us. The bartenders have seen us in there before and they always remember us. I had been denied service in another location in Raleigh Saturday night so we went to Bogart's where the bartenders knew I was over 21. The martini selection is awesome and the best in Raleigh. Keep up the good work! We will always be back!
Pros: Martini's!
Cons: Can't think of a thing.

My husband and I celebrated our 10th Wedding Anniversary with 40 of our closest family members and friends on this past Saturday, May 19, 2007. The wait staff was perfect, and always there ready to serve in a timely matter. The food was excellent, and you got right amount for the money. And the patio was just beautiful. I could not have asked for a more beautiful atmosphere. This night was everything that I ever wished and dreamed of and more. After such a beautiful dinner, my party followed up with late night dancing. We enjoyed everything from the beginning to the end. It was nice to have everything accessible to you at one location. And because of my personal catering director, Kevin DeHimer and his co-workers, my Anniversary dinner will be the talk of the town for years to come. I am still on cloud nine, four days later. You all made me feel like a newly wed again. If you are ever in the need for some late night romance , whether it is just you and your significant other or a huge party, Bogarts is the place to go. And use the patio. At night it is beautiful. Thank you Kevin, Rocky Top Hospitality, and Bogarts for everything. I will definitely use you again. I LOVE YOU GUYS. - The Murphys
Pros: Ambience, food, service

We went to Bogart's on Saturday May 12th. We ordered the Carolina Crab Dip. The dip had allmost no flavor. All that you could taste was the herbed parmesan pita. I ordered the Pan "Seared" Atlantic Salmon. The salmon was over cooked and bland. My daughter had the ribeye steak which was very average and certainly not worth $25.99. My had the Shrimp and Grits which again was average a best, not near as good as a similar dish at the Glenwood Grill. We eat out on the average as twice a week. We have been to many fine dining restaurants. Bogart's is not one of them.

This place ROCKS!!! Best martinis around and it only cost $4! the food was great and the service was attentive and quick. We'll be back.......soon!!!!
Pros: martinis,food, sevice
Cons: everyone should STOP smoking NC!

I was introduced to Bogarts during a girls night out. This was not the best experience. The food was horrible put had the prettiest names. I only enjoyed my water and martini. If you are looking for good food, to me this is not the place, but the drinks can keep coming.
Pros: Drinks
Cons: food
Posted 01/10/07
Love the atmosphere of the 1940's. The food is OK. I've had great food, good food, and awful food. The martini's are wonderful.

Monday night date night is the best at Bogarts. $30 for 2 meals, an appetizer and a bottle of wine. The food is good (Americana comfort food) and the atmosphere is cool. Great for the cheap post-weekend blues pick-you-up. Also, GREAT martini list.
Pros: Cheap date night!
Cons: Regular menu prices aren't totally worth it.
Posted 11/13/06
We enjoy the candy apple rimmed martini, Yummy :) They have the best martini list around. The bartenders make you feel welcome.
Pros: Martinis, steak
Cons: wait times

Bogarts is a good place to see and be seen in. The food is great, the ambience and service are a plus, then later, it is the scene to be at. 510 Glenwood is the corner stone of Glenwood, featuring its two other sisters (or is it brothers?), The Red Room and Hi-5. Both serve food, all have entertainment. The demographic is 21-40 in age group. This corner is bustling with crowds. No reservations required, $5 cover charge after 10p on Friday and Saturday (Gets you into Red Room, Bogarts and Hi-5). Don't forget the appetizers! They are the bomb. Oh, Bogarts is great for Sunday Brunch 11a-2p. Got a party? Bring it on -- to the private party room. --The Social Light
Pros: Thumbs up on food and service
Cons: Parking is sometimes hard to find
Posted 07/24/06
Had a surprise birthday party in the private room last week end. I hate these group dinners, but the food was perfect. My Steak came Rare as ordered and my wifes Salmon was cooked perfect.
I have eaten in all of the Rocky top restaurants, but Bogart's is my favorite!
Pros: Food, best martini's
Cons: none

I decided on Bogarts due to the good reviews that I read on this web site. Unfortunately I found the food lacking in creativity and pleasure to the palette. We had the shrimp and calamari appetizer, both lightly breaded. The shrimp were excellent but the calamari was stringy as we were service mostly tentacles.
The main course included the stuff flounder, the full rack of ribs and the rib-eye. The founder and ribs were excellent but the rib-eye was equivalent to a Golden Corral. The taste was not equal to a great steak house, such as Capital Grille or Palm even though it is priced the same.
Pros: Decor, Service
Cons: Price, Quality

The new menu at bogarts is incredible...it's been a while since I visited the restaurant and I must say that my group was very pleased with the offering. Service was excellent and it was the first time we've dined in for lunch! Will go back!
Pros: Buzzing Place, Atmosphere, quality
Posted 03/08/06
I have been to Bogart's once for lunch. I had the crabcake sandwich which was decent. Another person had Mac&Cheese which was good. However, the people who ordered oysters and steak were not happy. The oysters were all bread- very greasy. The steak was fatty, not a good cut of meat at all.
I have been to the bar at night and that is awesome. The people are friendly, drinks are great and the bartenders are sweet. The crowd is professional and youngish- mid- twenties and 30's.
Pros: Awesome Bar, Great Martini's, Friendly Patrons
Cons: Parking, Bar Crowded after 10
Posted 03/02/06
The food is so-so. The she crab soup, however, is great. But, the martinis....the martinis are fabulous! Try the Hemingway. You won't be sorry! A fun place to be.
Pros: martinis, location
Cons: parking

The Hard Luck Lunch specials at Bogarts are a great deal at $6 apiece. Portions tend to be large, but the management is happy to supply "to go" boxes.
Posted 12/08/05
This place is great. The food was good, the service was fast and friendly and the drinks were tasty! Thursday night all the martinis are 1/2 off - what a deal.
I'll be back.
Pros: brunch, jazz, food & service
Posted 10/28/05
Last friday a couple of my girlfriends took me down to Bogart's to start our evening off, and we didn't leave. The martinis were fabuloous. Chris the bartender, took amazing care of us, and he had us laughing all night. We had this amazing fried goat cheese appetizer among others, and were supprised that to find out how long we stayed (it was after one in the morning). It did get a little crowded late night but being seated at the bar we hardly noticed. I can't wait to go back to Bogart's!
Pros: martini menu, hot bartenders, great appetizers
Cons: crowded latenight

This place ROCKS! My boyfriend took me here for my 30th birthday bcs he knows how much I love the scarlet martinis. Dinner was AWESOME! Our server was friendly and knowledgable. I loved the 1/2 order options for the entrees bcs the portions were huge. The manager even brought a Twinkie with a sparkler out with free dessert! Loved the jazz during dinner and enjoyed the band later. It got really crowded - it's certainly a hot spot. Definitly recommned this place.
Pros: food value, friendly service, jazz
Posted 08/09/05
When it was a restaurant, this place was great... However, the focus has seemed to change towards a bar/nightlife type of scene... I have no idea why this place is always packed since it takes forever to get a drink... and watered down $12 aristocrat martini's are not exactly my thing... The wannabe/funk/dance bands are way too loud and simply suck... but hey... it's Glenwood south... Not my scene and not worth my time... don't bother to waste yours either.

I found out about Bogart's after searching for something new & different here on CitySearch and decided to take a friend there for dinner tonight. What a pleasant surprise! We were seated very quickly with our choices being a place in the "lounge" area, the bar, outside, or some of their comfy booths. We opted for a booth not far from where the Jazz band was playing. They had Casablanca showing on several big screens... and you could watch the game at the bar, too! The music was great, the service was even better, and the food was amazing! Many different choices and lots of appetizers. (We had the crab dip!) I like that they offer small plates in addition to their normal-sized portions. Well definitely be going back!
Pros: Great atmosphere!, Friendly staff, Awesome food & music!
Cons: A little pricey, Parking could be hard

I have been to Bogarts's many times and always bring in business associates and clients. I have yet to be disappointed with food or the service. Always an enjoyable experience.
Posted 06/14/05
upon reading other reviews i was a little nervous about going to Bogarts. Wow, this was one of the best experiences i've had in a while! From the minute we walked in until we walked out i was impressed. The service was wonderful, the food was great and so was the atmostphere. Will be back often.
Pros: food, service, bar
Posted 06/10/05
i was at Bogart's last Saturday night & it was great! i was there for a bachlorette party. Dinner was AWESOME. Service was really friendly especially since there was 15 girls! Stayed all night and danced. I'll definitly be back for dinner, this time with a date!
Pros: atmosphere, food , service
Posted 03/16/05
I really wasn't impressed with the food. I went with a group of 5 women and none of us really liked what we ordered. I don't think the overall selection on the menu was great. I have been late night to the bar scene and that was a little better. I won't be a repeater for dinner. There are too many selections downtown that surpass them.
Pros: Good Location, Cool Atmosphere
Cons: Bad Food, Too Dark for Dinner
Posted 03/08/05
Sampled 5 different starters. A hungry group of 4 didn't finish any of them. They just didn't taste good. Hard to tell what the Chef was trying to do. Here is the strange thing. I drink vodka Martini's regularly all over the country. The two I had tasted watered down. Trying to stay positive I didn't want to say anything to our group. Two weeks later someone from our group asked me if my drink tasted watered down because their's did. I've got no proof but that is a strange coincidence.

I dont know how this place got its good rep.
The food was average but expensive.
Drinks where overpriced and everyone in the bar looked so old?
Cons: , expensive
Posted 01/20/05
I have been here both for drinks in the evening and for lunch several times. The drinks are great, especially the extensive list of martinis. The lunches are generally good, but I would definitely suggest avoiding the red meat here. I ordered the mixed rotisserie salad, which is supposed to have both chicken and beef in it. Well, it had mostly beef, but that beef was fatty and chewy and just not tasty.
Pros: prices, service, privacy at tables
Posted 10/01/04
As soon as I walked in the door I knew we had made the right choice. We were greeted warmly at the door and shown to the bar. Our large group sat at the bar for some martini's and hilarious banter with the bar staff and moved to the dining room where we were served attentively. I couldn't ask for ANYTHING MORE!
Pros: Staff, Martinis, FOOD
Posted 06/17/04
I have visited Bogarts on several occasions and it is growing more obvious that the focus is no longer on being a resturant but being a late night club. On the weekend night I visited it went from being almost empty to wall to wall people in every direction. The dinning room turned into a dance floor and bands with equipment going in between people trying to eat dinner. The music was thumping so loud you can't hear yourself think. Bottom line, where I once valued a nice steak and a bottle of wine has sold out to be just another see and be seen spot on glenwood south.
Pros: martinis, barstaff
Cons: , food
Posted 06/15/04
I have heard this place was a great place to eat. From the beginning, I felt as if I was bothering the wait staff. They brought us the wrong food, didn't check on us, mis-applied items on our bill, then to top it off, spilled another tables drinks on us.
Not to mention the fact that it looked like a diner in there.
Posted 06/12/04
This is the most dissappointing restaurant in raleigh other than high Five. I had the worst Filet salad that I have ever had and the service was at best Marginal.
I felt as though I had stepped into a 2 star diner that was dressed up as a martini bar.
The martini's are great but stay away if you want good food. Walk two blocks and Eat at Sullivan's
Pros: Good Martini, Nice Atmosphere
Cons: , Poor Food Preperation, Bad Selection
Posted 03/11/04
I have been to Bogarts several times in my short stay in Raleigh, and all of the times service has been above average, but after my lunchtime experience last week,m I probably wont go back. Our server in the bar area was distracted, short and just plain rude. The food was great for the price, the restaurant was clean and welcoming but the service wasn't. So skip the lunch and hold-off til the after dinner entertainment begins.
Pros: Nightlife, Crowd, Food
Posted 02/10/04
When I go out I usually for the most part enjoy what I eat, some places more than others, but Bogarts had the WORST food. I'd rather eat at Bojangles. I think I can make a better filet... The service however was decent. The hostess did have an attitude because we were a party of 6 without reservations but we arrived early and there was hardly anyone there, so seating us shouldn't have been a big deal.
Pros: service, atmosphere
Cons: FOOD, hostess, parking
Posted 12/16/03
I will admit I had heard some bad things about Bogart's before I went, but I wanted to see for my self. The only disappointing thing was the service. The brandied shrimp dip was great! I had the shrimp carbonara entree and my friend had the crab cakes and they were both fantastic!!! Our server seemed to be more occupied with reading in the kitchen, which we could see from our table, than taking care of us. BUT, the other servers there were more than happy to wait on us, and after speaking with the manager, and receiving a gift certificate, I would recommend Bogart's. So, don't belive all of the bad things you read or hear!
Pros: FOOD!, prices, most of the staff
Cons: some of the staff
Posted 10/22/03
Mediocre service was the best part of my meal. Meatloaf was so burned it was crunchy. The chef tried to hide the burnt meal by overseasoning everything. Even our creme brulee desert was burnt completely through. This was my one and only trip to Bogarts.
Pros: None
Cons: Mediocre service, Worst food ever
Posted 10/15/03
I should have read some reviews before going. Seems like it's hit or miss, with the majority of the experiences, including ours, being misses. I was drawn in by their ads but the food will keep me away. Our table of four tried a lot of menu items but there's nothing we could agree to recommend again. The server didn't seem to care whether we liked anything or not. Very disappointing and a poor value. Maybe if you're drunk the whole concept works better.
Pros: Glenwood South, bar area, parking garage
Cons: food quality, poor value, server attitude
Posted 07/30/03
Bogarts used to be a great place for upscale professional lunch meeting or nice dinner, but last 3 times I have gone there, it has really gone down hill. Management has lost it with the new menu they have..Who deep fries Ribs??? Seems they can't make up their mind if they want to be a southern Restaurant or fancy sandwich place now. Either way, food has been very disappointing and portions are smaller. Would not go back there for a while at this point unless you just want to have some drinks since they have a great bar area.
Pros: the bar, jazz music
Cons: The Bad Food, Expensive
Posted 06/18/03
I was recently in Raleigh, NC on business and chose to go to Bogart's on a "whim" with a coworker. We were both very pleased with the food and the atmosphere - Our waiter was very kind and checked on us often - highly recommend the "Devils on Horseback" as an appetizer - the plates all seem to have very complimentary foods - my Duck was good (but a bit chewy) - the local beers on tap are good (recommend the brown porter) and then top it all off with a glass of Ruby Port with your favorite cigar and listen to the Jazz.... very nice experience and good place to take coworkers.
Pros: music, atmosphere, food
Cons: chairs on patio suck

"Our food was okay. Not fantastic. I think our server forgot about ..."
