Great sushi! Best in Charlotte! Great atmosphere. Amazing sushi rolls. I have travelled all over the country and abroad and this is by far the best place I have found, outside of CA. I love their amazing sushi roll combinations. They were even willing to make a roll that I had in CA even though it is not on their menu.!

Been here a few times with co-workers for lunch. There is something for everyone, and we like the atmosphere. I stick to the noodle bowl - very good. They get us in and out quickly. I definitely recommend for lunch!

Good sushi, great value. Crispy Cali roll is always good and you can't beat the price. Not the best sushi in CLT but very inexpensive. Also great drink specials Monday thru Thursday

Pros: Very Consistent

Cons: Service hit or miss

.

Well I absolutely adore this restaurant, the service has always been great for me.

I do agree with most people that the actual sushi is only mediocre, I honestly go other places if I want good sushi for this price (Yama is absolutely amazing).

On the other hand, on the weekends I always tend to splurge on one bad meal since I eat healthy during weekdays and my absolute favorite fried rice dish is here. I love the aioli sauce, the alcohol is wonderful and not a bad price. The atmosphere is very welcoming and taking a lot of your friends is a lot of fun.

To sum it up, if you are going for just sushi go somewhere else. If you want to just chill with friends and have sake bombs and fried rice or noodle dishes this is a great place.

Just for clarification, the wait staff has always been supreme at this location when it comes to the service! The management and hostess could consistently use a little help. This place really caters to single customer or couples. If you want to sit at the sushi bar or if it is just you and a date, you will generally get fast service. This past summer, I ate here every Monday night (1/2 off dirty martini night) with a girl friend and enjoyed the wonderful Charlotte summer evenings on their patio overlooking the skyline. If you come in with 3 or more - be prepared to wait, and if not all of your party is there, be prepared to get dirty glances by the management - no matter how many apps and Sake bombs you buy before every last member of your party shows up. Coming from someone who used to wait tables, service really drives my enjoyment of an evening out and bad service can quickly ruin it - especially when it's the manager. The food here is great, if a little overpriced and as I said before, the wait staff is all great - just don't get crossways with the manager and you should have a pleasurable evening!

These guys are all right-- prices are fantastic, and sushi is pretty darn good for it. I *hate* it when places use fake crab, though, and not only does sushi 101 use it, they're not really clear on the menu about it.

Their cucumber salad is fantastic-- served in a big martini glass; very classy! Also check out their cooked dishes.

Sushi 101 on Park Road has fairly quick service, some interesting combinations, and their lunch combos are a steal. However, if you're craving good sushi, there's better out there (Nikko). Sushi 101 is great for the immediate sushi impulse, but to satiate a high-grade sushi craving, keep looking.

So I gave this place 2 chances to impress me. The first time the lady at the bar taking my "to-go" order was very unfriendly and wanted to rush me through my order. After I got the sushi home, it was mostly rice and the very little fish that was there, was very FISHY tasting. The second time the service was a little bit better but the sushi was still very small, mostly rice, and still tasted a little fishy.

In the process of relocating to Charlotte, and we're looking for our new sushi spot...this is not it. The service was quite bad. We sat for several minutes before finally having glasses of water plopped down by a server who did not speak or even look at us. Found the rather squishy fish to be engulfed in overcooked rice. The spicy tuna roll is lackluster tuna doused with barely seasoned mayonnaise (they call it "aioli")--ick. I'm really hoping Charlotte has better sushi to offer, besides the Rusan's chain.

This place was ok when it first opened but has gone down hill, they use ingredients in the soup that have MSG in them. If you want good Sushi you will need to fly to New York and go to Fujiama mama. At Columbus and 83rd Street, then you will know what Sushi is.

Sushi is fresh. Rolls are unique and can be altered to your liking. Restaurants like these make sushi an experience to die for. And the overall presentation of the food and the restaurant itself extraordinary. T he noodle dishes are great too!

Pros: Sushi, Noodle Bowls, Outside Dining

I had to write this because I'm sick of hearing about how good this place is. I'm not one to outright bash any place, but their sushi is very sub-par compared to most places in Charlotte. I felt ripped off every time I ate there. The fish didn't seem all that fresh, the rice was bland and overcooked, and as far as the rolls go, I could roll them better. The only good thing I found was their noodle bowls, although for what they are they're expensive. And yes, I've been there at least 5 times, and I wanted to like it because of the atmosphere, but I won't be wasting any more money there. Go there at your own risk.

I only started eating Sushi about 4 years ago and now I have been to more sushi places than I can remember. I have yet to find anything that compares to Sushi 101. The variety is unsurpassed. The noodle bowls are amazing. I have friends that didn't eat sushi and they have now started because of Sushi 101. My own dad would eat only cooked sushi till I talked him into trying the Ahi Poke and he loved it.

I do have 1 issue there isn't a Sushi 101 on the north side of charlotte but I still drive for it because they are worth every penny.

And for those of you have seafood allergies they even have a soy paper wrap instead of nori that you can put on the vegetarian rolls like Sweat potato, asparagus, chicken and others so you can enjoy the sushi experience as well.

Pros: Inexpensive, Curtious wait staff, Great Variety

My first impression of Sushi 101 (providence rd location) was that it seemed small and crowded. Our visit was on a Friday night, and the place was PACKED. Regardless, our service was relatively fast. The rolls & nigiri we ordered were EXCELLENT. Everything was very good. We ordered a variety of their specialty rolls and traditional rolls and had no complaints. We will definately return. BTW, the aioli sauce was very good and seasoned on my visit, perhaps that previous reviewer who didn't like it visited on an off-night.

Nice selection of sushi and great ambiance. You can sit outside and enjoy your meal, which is unusual at a Japanese restaurant. Good beer selection too.

This restaurant started off well, but has gone downhill recently. Wait staff is overwhelmed at the Woodlawn location and inexperience AND overwhelmed at their new Promenade location.

The sushi is good, if and when, it arrives. The spider rolls, which used to be fantastic, were greasy and soggy on a recent visit.

Noodle bowls are done better at the newly opened Mama Fu's. My recent order was incorrectly stir fried instead of in soup. The kitchen's solution? They took it back in and added hot water.

I would have never expected this little place to have such good sushi. It ranks up there with some of the best sushi places in NYC....or at least for the food maybe not the ambiance. It's fairly inexpensive and even delivers!

Sushi 101 was one of my favorite places to get sushi before the service and food went down hill. This is one of those restaurants that used to be good, but has slacked off now that they have customers. The past few times I've gone I've felt more of a hassle to the staff then someone they want to be there. The rolls are also shrinking each time I go. It's back to Rusan's for me!!

I can not say enough how much I enjoy Sushi 101!
I moved to Charlotte a year ago and was so happy to find a sushi place with such an awesome selection and a fun, funky ambience!
My personal favorite is the Rainbow roll and the calamari is the best in town(i think).
Its really reasonably priced and eveybody is always friendly.
The art that decorates the walls is really impressive and adds so much to the atmosphere.
I've never actually written a restaraunt review before, but this is by far my favorite and several of my friends' favorite place for fresh sushi!!
