I got a curly weave with micros in the front- they work super fast and it came out looking great! I received lots of compliments. Kept it for 2 months. I'm actually about to go get another style today!

Ratings_icons Will be returning!

Helen W.

WOW! i got my hair braided for the first time ever! The manager was courteous. The stylists were sort of quiet, but friendly when I was friendly to them. I LOVE MY HAIR! I had to ask for instructions on how to take care of it, and actually got more from a couple of other customers. I definitely will be returning - it's gorgeous! I really admire the ladies' patience. Oh - PS - it hurts - ranks up there with having a baby and getting braces.

Ratings_icons They are WONDERFUL

Brittney T.

I went and got Micros and it was really really fast. It took one person 7 hours, and that is amazing. I don't know what people are talking about, when they say their rude. They are all very nice, and the lady that did my hair was extra polite. I didn't mind them speaking their language, just like its easier for you to speak English its easier for them to speak African. Would you go to a Mexican restaurant and expect them not to speak Spanish?? The only thing was that they ask you to pay first. I forgot to tip the lady that did my hair because I already paid. But other than that it was great and I love my braids

Ratings_icons Good Job

Melanie M.

I had my hair done at this place in Durham. I was truly happy with the results. The person who did my hair was great, she was concerned about my comfort, and did such a great job, i was truly impressed. I am very tender headed, and so the slightest pulling gives me extreme pain, to the point that the last time I had braids done, I was uncomfortable for a couple of weeks. She was excellent, I had no pain. It truly was a great experience.

Ratings_icons i'd go back

I i got my hair braided for the very first time with kinky twist and i thought they did a really good job. I had no problems.i didnt feel out of place or unusually, the lady doing my hair made sure i was comfortable. And they are very quick and efficient. i hear how rude and disrespectful they are but i dont think the ladies mean to be rude its just they way they sound sometimes, my husband said the samething. but most of them minded their own business talking about their own things, didnt bother me much i just wanted my hair done. it was worth the money, actually it wasnt THAT expensive. cleanliness was ok, could have been cleaner but they didnt use anything on me that would make me concerned. the only advice i have is 1) get your hair cut, washed, and pressed or whatever before you go, b/c they do it as is. if your missing 2 inches on one side and have 6 inches on another they dont bother cutting it. Im guessing b/c their not professional stylists like that. I dont blame them i wouldnt touch anyones head if i didnt know what i was doing. and 2) They dont give instructions on how to take care of your new style. I tried to ask for some, and she couldnt figure out what i was talking about. so i did self research. Other than that, i enjoyed it. I'd definately return.

Ratings_icons Let Me Just Say!

I loved my hair!!! These women are extremely talented at what they do but. . . . . They are completely unprofessional!! I have no problem with them being foreigners!! My problem is they can not treat people, that are paying them 200-300 dollars a head with some respect and common courtesy!! This shop is lucky to have as many customer as they do because everyone I know will get the same review that I am giving here!!! Ladies if you think you can get pass the rude remarks, ignoring apt. times, unsanitary condition, and harsh treatment then go right ahead!!! Your hair will look amazing!!

Ratings_icons Response from a braider

I do not even know where to start to answer all this negativeness from those American ladies. Did you people know about braiding before us, I do not think so. How about clients that are coming to our shop with their attitudes and think that African are stupid ass holes and talk us like their superior that us. If you do not want to give your money to foreigners, you should go to your follow Americans to get your hair braided if they can do so. Most of the time you people look ugly when coming to the shop and look totally change when you come out of their so what's the fuss. When it comes to language, most of you people are ignorant because the only language you know is English and THAT IS ALL. But we Africans are very educated people if you do not believe so and can speak many languages. DO YOU PEOPLE SPEAK ANOTHER LANGUAGE? NO! so please have also some respect for us because God made us all the same and racism should be over by now. What if you go to another country and they expect you to speak their language and you us to speak English only. Most of you people do not like us but you want us to do your hair, IT DOES NOT MAKE NO SENSE, GO TO YOUR PEOPLE IF THEY CAN DO BETTER THAN US.We Africans brought African beauty to this country and a revolutionary hair style that able you to just get up and go in the morning. You should be thankful instead of being rude to us as well. And complaining about us speaking our language is as rude as you not understanding it.

Ratings_icons Getting Micro Braids

I loved going there to get my hair done. They did a great job and it took a while, but it didn't take as long as i expected it to, but for me and my mother to get out hair done it costed $400.00 in all. but they end up looking great, and these people know what they are doing. The only thing that I didnt like was when all of the ladies were talking in a different language and i couldn't understand what they were saying so you never knew what they were talking about or who. But i loved my hair in the end

Ratings_icons Getting a Weave

Anonymous

I am new to the area and am VERY particular of how my weave looks. Most places don't do weaves. I have been going to African World of Braids only because there is one girl who does my hair so that it doesn't "look" like a weave, but it took me almost a year to get her to do as I wanted not what SHE wanted. Please know and understand these girls are NOT professionals they braid beause it is what they know. They are not licensed to cut or style your hair. You get what you get, and they will send you out without your hair done if you express your concerns. I've seen it happen. The shops are NOT clean and they use one another's combs, etc. They will wash your hair, IF you bring your own products. The dryers are filthy and greasy!!.

The staff is very rude, I made an appointment for my daughter a week in advance and got there and was told that I need to come back at three. I was truly out done by this, especially since I made a 11:00 appointment.... appointments mean absolutely nothing. why do we as Americans give our money to foreigners and then in return they treat us like crab! I would never go back nor do I recommend this salon to anyone!

Ratings_icons Rude, and Wasted My Time

Anonymous

I went to their shop to get my hair braided. They sent me all over the place promising that I would get my hair braided because they had two shops. They dont speak English very well, and they're very rude. One lady actually told me she doesn't do short hair, and my hair isn't that short. They made me wait for about 30 minutes before they eventually told me they were not going to do my hair! I'm not from NC so I had to catch a taxi back to my apartment!

Ratings_icons Speak ENGLISH To Your American Customers!!!!

It is weird to sit in the chair for HOURS with 2 stylists on your head at one time and they're speaking a foreign language the ENTIRE time. This is rude.

Ratings_icons Rude staff and payment required BEFORE service is rendered..

Tiffany P. | insider Insider | Rank: 20,066

I went there because I wanted to have some kinky twists for vacation. I had them before (at another salon) so I knew exactly what I wanted. They stylists there do know how to do all sorts of braiding styles and they sometimes have 2 braiders working on one person at once so it makes the styling much quicker. However, my major complaint - which was really a big turnoff for me - was that customers are expected to PAY for their hair style BEFORE service is rendered. No other hair stylists or salon has expected this and I simply don't do business this way. After I refused, the receptionist explained that the owner had so many people walk away without paying that it's his new policy. I explained that I was not about to pay before I saw their work and I proceeded to leave. She stopped me and tried to work something out. After much more discussion, they finally agreed to allow me to pay after my hair was braided. But the damage was already done. The whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I will not return to this establishment. There are too many other salons in the area that know their craft just as well and are a lot friendlier.

Ratings_icons Your Hair Will Look nice but...

UNTAA O. | insider Insider | Rank: 19,433

These ladies are wonderful at what they do. They have a million style books laying around for you to choose from. They are experts at their craft. My biggest problems would have to be the cost and the unfriendly stylists. If you plan on getting microbraids you can plan on shelling out at least 200 dollars. Children styles are a little cheaper but still hurt your wallet. They are very fast and usually have to braiders working on your hair at once. The stylists are not friendly at all and some do not speak good english which can be aggrevating when your are trying to communicate how you'd like your hair done.
