I went here last Wednesday to get flat twist. They where fine until 5 days later. I spent $120 so I called today and they told me to come in. I get there and told them what I wanted. She told me they could not do my hair today. Of course I was very upset because I drove from Cary to Durham to get my hair fixed. I really don't understand how they can treat their customers that way. She took the twist out and you can only imagine how bad my hair looks. I'm hoping I get a discount if I don't then we are going to have some issues. Those people customer service is very poor.

I will NEVER again in my life get my hair braided at African World of Braids. My hair is about 6 or 7 inches long and 3 days after i got myhair braided most of my braids in the back started to fall out. Antoinette braided my hair in about 4 hours (by herself). How was she able to do this?? She did micros in the front and small box braids in the back. The box braids fell out. She was rushing to finish my hair because she wanted to go to a cookout. She talked on the phone the ENTIRE time she did my hair gossiping and talking trash about some girl named Cynthia that she doesn't really like. (I hope Cynthis reads this review). She sprayed SPRITZ on my braids after she was done. Who does that?? Needless to say, I had to take the braids out within 2 weeks of having them. Im on my way to Amina's braiding salon. Crossing my fingers hoping for better success. ANd btw, AWOB, when u charge $180 to braid hair, you should at least keep toilet paper in your filthy restrooms. I had to use hard paper towels because they didn't have toilet paper!

I haven't even been yet but I felt that I should comment. Its so funny how people are saying that they are rude because they don't speak English around you. Get the eff outta here. Why are you concerned about what they are talking about, its clearly their own business so stay out of it. We really show our true American character making statements like that. Americans are nosey as hell. Thats just like us whispering in front of people, we dont want anyone to know what we are saying. Its none of your damn business what they are talking about and you shouldnt feel the need to be involved in their conversations. If they have something to say to you, they will speak to you in English. Til then mind your own damn business. And I don't see how ya'll make all of those rude remarks and still say your hair looks good...Ungrateful bitches!! Sidenote: I am American and do not work for them but yall were being sooo rude. I love my African sistahs!!!!

I Love my hair! Today was my first time going to AWB usually I don't do braids of any kind. I got micros today and I must say my experience today was awesome! The women were all pleasant although I didn't understand their language which was to be expected. In order to understand them u have to adapt to their environment we are all equal and have to respect one another. I don't see why some people get pissed off and call them rude just because u don't understand their language. Life is to short to complain abt little thins focus on things that will make a difference in the world. I enjoyed going and look forward to going back in abt two months. To my african sisters, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! Bless u all!

I went to the African World of Braids today and can I say I will NEVER return. First of all I called and asked for an appointment. She told me to come at 10am. They were late opening, around 10:30-10:45. Then there was only ONE person there that knew how to do tree braids...and she gave her TWO heads to do in front of me. Finally at 1pm she was ready to do my hair. She started ONE braid and said she couldn't do it because it wasn't the type of hair she was used to working with. I reminded them that I called and they said they knew how and could do it. She asked me could I go to the store in Raleigh. WTF are you kidding me??? There is no way I would drive 30 mins away when I have already waited 3 hours! They barely gave me an apology and returned my money. After waiting THREE hours, I left the same way I came. I wouldn't even select one star if I didn't have to!

My name is Aveeda. I like for Nissa to braid my hair. She works at the store in Durham. She does an excellent job, and she is fast. She is finished in 4 1/2 hours when she does my micros. Ask for Nissa, you want be disappointed :-)

Wonderful experience..my hair is shor..i am in the process of growing out a mohawk, but managment at the fayetteville st location, called in the young lady that braids short hair so my micros would be perfect. She did a fantastic job, her name is Antoinette, awesome work, great personality, time went by fast because we talked and laughed most of the time. I would refer African world of braids to all my friends. And my micros are neat and tight even though I have short hair. They are on point.

My daughter and I went in to get our hair braided on a day that it started snowing, and they did not turn us down. They worked fast as were friendly. We will return back to get our hair redone.

WOW! i got my hair braided for the first time ever! The manager was courteous. The stylists were sort of quiet, but friendly when I was friendly to them. I LOVE MY HAIR! I had to ask for instructions on how to take care of it, and actually got more from a couple of other customers. I definitely will be returning - it's gorgeous! I really admire the ladies' patience. Oh - PS - it hurts - ranks up there with having a baby and getting braces.

I went and got Micros and it was really really fast. It took one person 7 hours, and that is amazing. I don't know what people are talking about, when they say their rude. They are all very nice, and the lady that did my hair was extra polite. I didn't mind them speaking their language, just like its easier for you to speak English its easier for them to speak African. Would you go to a Mexican restaurant and expect them not to speak Spanish?? The only thing was that they ask you to pay first. I forgot to tip the lady that did my hair because I already paid. But other than that it was great and I love my braids

I had my hair done at this place in Durham. I was truly happy with the results. The person who did my hair was great, she was concerned about my comfort, and did such a great job, i was truly impressed. I am very tender headed, and so the slightest pulling gives me extreme pain, to the point that the last time I had braids done, I was uncomfortable for a couple of weeks. She was excellent, I had no pain. It truly was a great experience.

I i got my hair braided for the very first time with kinky twist and i thought they did a really good job. I had no problems.i didnt feel out of place or unusually, the lady doing my hair made sure i was comfortable. And they are very quick and efficient. i hear how rude and disrespectful they are but i dont think the ladies mean to be rude its just they way they sound sometimes, my husband said the samething. but most of them minded their own business talking about their own things, didnt bother me much i just wanted my hair done. it was worth the money, actually it wasnt THAT expensive. cleanliness was ok, could have been cleaner but they didnt use anything on me that would make me concerned. the only advice i have is 1) get your hair cut, washed, and pressed or whatever before you go, b/c they do it as is. if your missing 2 inches on one side and have 6 inches on another they dont bother cutting it. Im guessing b/c their not professional stylists like that. I dont blame them i wouldnt touch anyones head if i didnt know what i was doing. and 2) They dont give instructions on how to take care of your new style. I tried to ask for some, and she couldnt figure out what i was talking about. so i did self research. Other than that, i enjoyed it. I'd definately return.

I loved my hair!!! These women are extremely talented at what they do but. . . . . They are completely unprofessional!! I have no problem with them being foreigners!! My problem is they can not treat people, that are paying them 200-300 dollars a head with some respect and common courtesy!! This shop is lucky to have as many customer as they do because everyone I know will get the same review that I am giving here!!! Ladies if you think you can get pass the rude remarks, ignoring apt. times, unsanitary condition, and harsh treatment then go right ahead!!! Your hair will look amazing!!

I do not even know where to start to answer all this negativeness from those American ladies. Did you people know about braiding before us, I do not think so. How about clients that are coming to our shop with their attitudes and think that African are stupid ass holes and talk us like their superior that us. If you do not want to give your money to foreigners, you should go to your follow Americans to get your hair braided if they can do so. Most of the time you people look ugly when coming to the shop and look totally change when you come out of their so what's the fuss. When it comes to language, most of you people are ignorant because the only language you know is English and THAT IS ALL. But we Africans are very educated people if you do not believe so and can speak many languages. DO YOU PEOPLE SPEAK ANOTHER LANGUAGE? NO! so please have also some respect for us because God made us all the same and racism should be over by now. What if you go to another country and they expect you to speak their language and you us to speak English only. Most of you people do not like us but you want us to do your hair, IT DOES NOT MAKE NO SENSE, GO TO YOUR PEOPLE IF THEY CAN DO BETTER THAN US.We Africans brought African beauty to this country and a revolutionary hair style that able you to just get up and go in the morning. You should be thankful instead of being rude to us as well. And complaining about us speaking our language is as rude as you not understanding it.

I loved going there to get my hair done. They did a great job and it took a while, but it didn't take as long as i expected it to, but for me and my mother to get out hair done it costed $400.00 in all. but they end up looking great, and these people know what they are doing. The only thing that I didnt like was when all of the ladies were talking in a different language and i couldn't understand what they were saying so you never knew what they were talking about or who. But i loved my hair in the end

I am new to the area and am VERY particular of how my weave looks. Most places don't do weaves. I have been going to African World of Braids only because there is one girl who does my hair so that it doesn't "look" like a weave, but it took me almost a year to get her to do as I wanted not what SHE wanted. Please know and understand these girls are NOT professionals they braid beause it is what they know. They are not licensed to cut or style your hair. You get what you get, and they will send you out without your hair done if you express your concerns. I've seen it happen. The shops are NOT clean and they use one another's combs, etc. They will wash your hair, IF you bring your own products. The dryers are filthy and greasy!!.

The staff is very rude, I made an appointment for my daughter a week in advance and got there and was told that I need to come back at three. I was truly out done by this, especially since I made a 11:00 appointment.... appointments mean absolutely nothing. why do we as Americans give our money to foreigners and then in return they treat us like crab! I would never go back nor do I recommend this salon to anyone!

I went to their shop to get my hair braided. They sent me all over the place promising that I would get my hair braided because they had two shops. They dont speak English very well, and they're very rude. One lady actually told me she doesn't do short hair, and my hair isn't that short. They made me wait for about 30 minutes before they eventually told me they were not going to do my hair! I'm not from NC so I had to catch a taxi back to my apartment!

I went there because I wanted to have some kinky twists for vacation. I had them before (at another salon) so I knew exactly what I wanted. They stylists there do know how to do all sorts of braiding styles and they sometimes have 2 braiders working on one person at once so it makes the styling much quicker. However, my major complaint - which was really a big turnoff for me - was that customers are expected to PAY for their hair style BEFORE service is rendered. No other hair stylists or salon has expected this and I simply don't do business this way. After I refused, the receptionist explained that the owner had so many people walk away without paying that it's his new policy. I explained that I was not about to pay before I saw their work and I proceeded to leave. She stopped me and tried to work something out. After much more discussion, they finally agreed to allow me to pay after my hair was braided. But the damage was already done. The whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I will not return to this establishment. There are too many other salons in the area that know their craft just as well and are a lot friendlier.

After much more discussion, they finally agreed to allow me to pay after my hair was braided. But the damage was already done. The whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I will not return to this establishment. There are too many other salons in the area that know their craft just as well and are a lot friendlier.

These ladies are wonderful at what they do. They have a million style books laying around for you to choose from. They are experts at their craft. My biggest problems would have to be the cost and the unfriendly stylists. If you plan on getting microbraids you can plan on shelling out at least 200 dollars. Children styles are a little cheaper but still hurt your wallet. They are very fast and usually have to braiders working on your hair at once. The stylists are not friendly at all and some do not speak good english which can be aggrevating when your are trying to communicate how you'd like your hair done.

I have been to both the Durham (Fayetteville ST) and Raleigh locations and have been satisfied every time. The staff has always been friendly. They work quick and the braids turn out GREAT!! They can work with almost any length. I came into the shop in Raleigh after growing my hair back from a short style and was surprised when one of the ladies said she could actually give me micros.

Idk why some of the women all calling the staff rude for talking in their native language. It's not important to be in their conversation while getting your hair styled.

I would recommend this AWB to anyone who wants quality braid styles that last.

Pros: EXCELLENT QUALITY EVERY VISIT

Cons: SHOP DOESN'T HONOR APPOINTMENTS

I have been getting my braids done at both the raleigh and durham shop for a while now. All the times that I have been to the durham shop they have never ever opened it on time. It is suppose to open at 10 oclock. To me that is kind of late to open any shop doing hair but hey its there business so they can choose the time BUT PLEASE be on time. I know things happen But like I said they have never opened on time as long as I have been going. Another thing is that the floor is always nasty and the women are very rude. I was getting my hair braided the other day and I know micros take a long time and I don't have a problem with that the problem I had was that the ladies that were doing my hair had about 4 more braids to do and do you know what they did? They took a lunch break! Iknow they have a right to a break but 4 More braids? They couldn't finish 4 more braids and get me out the shop so I could go about my way! Then when they came back from break and finished my hair they have to plaid it in big braids and dip it in hot water. I know that the women new I was heated about them not finishing me up so I was sitting there waiting for my hair to be dipped in the water so that I could go but no one was dipping so I asked one the ladies coud I get it done so I could go and she told me with a smirk that they were waiting on hot water!!And one of the women doing my braids coughed on me the whole entire time. I thought I was being nice by giving her a piece of gum. Then I break out my lunch (grapes) she asked me for some so I gave her some. She talked on the phone almost the entire time while coughing on me and was just kinda of rude! If I am paying $190 dollars to get my hair done I would like a little respect. Do I expect them to kiss my butt? No ! But at least show me a little respect. The only thing I can say good is that my braids turned out good but look what I had to go through to get it as if paying $190 dollars was not enough. I WILL NOT GO BACK!

this may be the most expensive hair braiding salon I've visited, but their quality is great. Nice athmosphere; extensive expertise.
