Sadly, this is a restaurant in decline. I wrote them in October about their French fries. Fries are frozen and on par with something you could get from Food Lion. Apparently, they did not care. For almost $100 per I expect hand cut fresh fries. We poled our party of 12 and to the person they said "card board". Bad enough that they did not fix this, their replacement creamed spinach I would not serve at my house. Their big fillet for $35. was cooked to perfection. Except it was dry and mealy. Lots of meals from other good steak houses tells me this is a no no in the future. If their is a plus side in the face of poor food, it is the quality of their staff. Unfortunately, the restaurant doesn't cut it any more and they don't listen to their customers.

We received a gift card to go have a steak at The Chop House, so we went this evening. We were so excited because we had heard great things but the restaurant is a bit beyond our means. I ordered a medium-rare Porterhouse. It arrived incredibly over-cooked. The waiter agreed and took it back. The next one was blue-raw. The manager came to see us and offered a $7.00 dessert for my $45 steak that I could not eat. The waiter explained that its difficult to cook a steak on the bone... YOU'RE A STEAK HOUSE!!! This was our last trip to The Chop House.

Pros: Nice atmosphere

Cons: Poor quality steaks

In response to the group unhappy with the elimination of the stuffed potato-- your unhappiness was clearly biased. We continue to return to this restaurant despite of its menu changes, because of it's consistent quality. You obviously are judging our most favorite spot irrationally!!!!! We listened to you decide that nothing would be right if you could not have what you came for. GET A CLUE! Are you really a doctor? Your judgement is questionable.

Pros: SO MUCH MORE TO OFFER THAN A STUFFED POTATO!

Cons: TOO BUSY DURING WEEKNIGHTS

.

One used to be able to get a great dinner for a reasonable price. Now, the salads are not included with the entree. And, to make matters worse, they removed the best twice baked potato from the menu! How could you remove a signature item from the menu??!!
We used to visit Chop House frequently. I dont think we'll be going there anymore.
Bummer~

I went in anticipation of a great steak. It was over cooked and had no flavor. For $26.00 it only came with one side item, I chose flavorless mashed potatoes!!! My husband had already eaten, so just came along to keep me company. When my husband told the waiter he was not ordering, when my food came out the waiter tried to give my husband a plate so that we could share my meal. I thought my husband was going to deck him! I guess the fact that my husband did not order, implied to this waiter that we could not afford two meals. Talk about condescending! Truly a disappointment!

The whole clan (11) celebrated a special family member birthday. The waiter was patient, helpful and very accomodating. The food was great and the portions are plenty. The entire evening was very enjoyable for the whole group. Glad we chose this place for the special occasion!

Pros: Food, Service, Friendly Staff

Cons: A little pricey but worth it

I come here often when travelling and usually stick to the steaks -- a bit pricey, but generall delicious.

Last trip I tried the sashimi tuna appetizer. The tuna was bright fluorescent red -- and the only way tuna gets like that is fake carbon monoxide treatment. This is such a dangerous way to process tuna it is illegal in Japan! (the tuna can be totally off, and it hides the bad tuna from the customer). Bad move Chop House -- get real tuna!

Well my parents were in town and wanted to try a NC steakhouse. I gave them 3 options, sullivans, ruths chris and chop house. They picked chop house. We ordered a seafood sampler app and it was decent in size for the price. We ordered2 different steaks and lamb chops. All were asked to be med-med well. My steak came out perfect. My dads and moms were bloody rare. I thought bloody rare was illegal in NC? I can't get it that way even if I desired at other places. We sent them back and the chops came back ok and my dads steak was 70% as rare as the first one. As my dad was hungry and not in the mood to argue he agreed to eat the outsides and microwave the middle tomorrow. The waitress did not offer us any free drinks or apps or dessert. The bill was 222$. I didn't see the tip. Knowing my father he left 25% regardless. Its very unfortunate that a steak house can't even cook steaks correctly and also unfortunate that the wait staff do not know how to make up for badly prepared food. I I was tipping she would have gotten the req. 15% and she could have taken the difference up with the cook. Good food if its cooked right. A little too pricey. With the economy the way it is and how they were not very busy you would think they would do what they could to get new business and to keep what they have. They obviously don't care too much and are satisfied with resting on their laurels.

Pros: Steak when cooked well, seafood when fresh, wait staff when trained.

Cons: Cooks don't know how to properly cook a steak in a STEAKHOUSE. Wait staff does not handle mistakes well.

If you are tired of fast food and want to sit down and enjoy a well prepared meal at a reasonable price, then the Chop House is the place to be. Groups are welcome with advance reservations. I give them two thumbs up.

Excellent venue for a quiet, succulent dinner. Service is excellent. Steaks were excellent. The Oyster salad is in and of itself worth the visit. High dollar, but if the prices do not bother you too badly, this is a definite place to go in Raleigh. It's exactly what we would expect a chop house to be.

I won't give it one star, since the food at the Chop House is AMAZING. My husband and I have dined here four times in the last year, and each time the meal was well worth the $80 tab. However, the service was absolutely appalling... at each meal. The waitstaff couldn't care less about you, and are often rude. They must pay their waitstaff well, because they're obviously not into earning good tips. One waiter argued with me when I observed that something was amiss with one of our orders. The last time we went was the worst and is the reason we will never return.

We had an older gentleman for a waiter who came over to ask us if we'd like cocktails to start our meal. My husband and I don't drink much, so we declined. He looked at us like we'd insulted his mother, and walked off before we could ask for two glasses of water. We sat for almost ten minutes before he reappeared to take our drink order, and my husband had to literally grab his sleeve to get his attention after he walked past us several times with empty glasses and no bread. He wouldn't look at you when you were speaking to him, and often interrupted us when we were trying to place our order. He made us feel guilty for asking him for something. Getting refills was a chore. When we declined dessert, he snapped: "Well I guess you'll be wanting your check then."

Naturally, we were very angry and as such left a tip commisurate with the level of service we'd received.
The waiter hovered over me as I was signing the bill and had the nerve to ask me if I was sure this was correct. I told him that given the evening's experience, he was lucky he got that much.

My husband's family owns a restaurant, so I feel that we have a very realistic expectation of what's acceptable and what's not. I understand that people sometimes have bad days, and that's okay...but this was unreal. And it happened more than once. Yeesh.

After 25 years of marriage I wanted to enjoy a nice dinner with my wife. I made reservations at the new Chop House in Cary. (Well in advance) I explained several times that it was my 25th and requested a nice table and a little out of the way. I was trying to support our local restaurants. We arrived and were taken immediately to our table.. In the bar staring at sports center. We asked for another table and was promptly taken outside next to a family of four with two young children who weren't exactly excited about being there. We asked our server why we were seated in the bar and she expalined they had given our table to someone else. My wife called the next day and spoke with the manager. He explained there was a misunderstanding and wanted us to come back for the service of a lifetime. I Shouldn't have to come back for service of a lifetime. Everyone should get good service without complaining. You knew it was my anniversary and I was offered the bar. I will never enter your restaurant again...

I am a fan of all things meat and I have to say, this place does it right. I had the 10 ounce filet, and it was so tender I didn't even need the steak knife I was given. The decor is fancy schmancy, like a country club or whatnot, but I didn't feel out of place in my less than formal attire. The service was great, our server explained everything in enough detail to inform us but not bore us. He asked us if we wanted water, which I thought was great because of the drought. It was a little pricey, but well worth it, and I had leftovers for lunch the next day. Will definitely be back. I only wish I knew about this place earlier, because it is sort of tucked away by the airport. Google maps is the key.

Pros: Steaks, service, atmosphere

Cons: Location (hard to find)

Steak that you barely need a knife for and the Filet Oscar is out of this world. When you order a rare steak, you get a rare steak. The service is somewhat formal but not at all cold. The caprese salad, (fresh mozzarella, tomato, and basil ), starter is huge, don't order it for just yourself and hope to finish your meal. I honestly prefer this to the Angus Barn.

The Chop House has the best steak I've ever tasted. I've been there twice. When we sat in the back dining area, the service was good. When we sat in the bar area, our server was not very attentive. Be prepared to stay for a couple hours and spend at least $50/person (including drinks). The experience will be well worth it.

My husband and myself met friends there for dinner with a 3 year old child two weeks ago. I have been there several times in the past and have always been impressed with the food. It is always top notch. Our waiter was extremely attentive and kept our drinks full as well as got items from the salad bar for our friends child to munch on. I was very impressed at how attentive he was to the little one's needs and our needs as well. The food was excellent. We ordered the Beef Tenderloin Tips and Calamari for appetizers. They were excellent. The dinner was excellent as well. Two of us ordered the Mahi Mahi special, one ordered a steak and the other ordered lamb. All were excellent and cooked just right. I would definately recommend this place and plan to go back again soon!

Wait staff could have cared less that we were there, we didn't have anyone ask us what we wanted to drink for quite some time, our food came out after a very long wait, and actually, everything was either average or below average. I can't believe how different some of these reviews are. I WISH I could say I had a great experience, but I didn't. Nor did the people we were dining with. The waiter frankly was borderline rude Not worth the hassle.

for the price, this place came up really short. Our server could not have cared less about presentation. the salad bar was a joke. one of our party's prime rib came VERY undercooked. The mozarella and tomato were old and the cabernet mushrooms had obviously been just sitting all night. The ribeye was simply OK...dittio for the prime rib...but for $28, you would expect more than a steak from winn-dixie. The coffee might have been purchased at waffle-house.

the worst part was the terrible cigarette smoke that runined our entire meal. Requests to our server to ask the person to stop smoking in the bar were met with shrugs and "sorry"..

it's 2006 people......We're paying over 200 bucks a table to get second-hand lung cancer? not to mention it's just DOWNRIGHT filthy ???

this place isn't in the same league with sullivans OR angus barn....actually...not even the same sport.....

I definitely recommend the Capital City Chop House for lunch. The prices at lunch are very reasonable, considering the fact that you're getting dinner-sized portions and quality ingredients. You can eat here for about $15 a person including the tip (if you don't get the filet). We had an appetizer and desserts, and it was still less than $25 a person. The service was also quite good, and our food arrived quickly. We finished our lunch about 45 minutes after we arrived, so we had time for dessert. We all enjoyed our food too.

Visited on 6/26/04. Our server, Mary Lou, gave us a tour of the menu and proceeded to take exquisite care of our part of 4. Salads were fresh, huge, and delicious. Strip steak and salmon entrees were superb; cooked exactly as ordered. Cheesecake was cream style and quite good.
Portions were larger than expected; food was very tasty and well presented; service was excellent.
Am looking forward to our next visit.

Ordered the herb grilled chicken breast, it came almost 20 mins later and tasted and smelled like...FISH!!! Called the manager who agreed and I asked for the steak which was excellent, my husband had ordered it as well, and it was really good. Service was very slow, however I was surprised they did not offer to comp at least my entree since I had their fishy chicken and it was quite traumatic. Would not go back there again...

With a 9.2 rating, we expected good food, good service and an overall satisfying experience. We were very disappointed at the flavorless food, pitiful salads, and horrible service. My steak was supposed to be medium well, but it was charred well done, and they first cooked my boyfriend the wrong size steak. So, we waited forever for food, and our waiter barely seemed to know we existed. To be honest, the place reminded us of a slighly-upscale yet still bad hotel restaurant. And its way overpriced! Drive 5 more minutes to the Angus Barn where the food is always good and the service impeccable.

The Chop House has by far the best steak in town! The food, dessert, wine selection, cigar selection, beverages, not to mention the fantastic service is by far the most consistent of any of the Restaurants listed. I'll say that the other restaurants have decent food, but for the best steak and the best ambience around, you just cannot possibly beat Capital City Chop House! Making you feel special is their specialty. #9? You're out of your mind! I've never had a better meal.

Pros: consistency, delicious, cleanliness

Whenever I'm in the area, I make the trip over to the Capitol City Chop House. An associate of mine suggested it the first time I flew into RDU, so I gave it a try. The Tuna appetizer is a must have, the Wasabi will definitally light you up.
The steaks are great, I've never tried anything else.
Sure it's pricy, but IMO, the steaks are better than Sullivan's or Ruth's Chris. Morton's is another story....

Pros: Great food, Good drink selection, Attractive setting

Cons: Pricey

Overall, for the price, we would have expected better service. We all had to ask for refills, our server was attentive upon our request but did not initiate service herself. She also recommended the double-stuffed potato...it turned out to be dry and pasty. My friend's she-crab soup was luke-warm. I will say that the filet was done right, but I could have gotten a better meal somewhere else. I also second-guessed whether or not they put any vodka in my bloody mary...I honestly could not taste it.
The entrees alone average $25. The bill for the four of us came out to over $120, we didn't order dessert...the Chophouse is not worth the price. I wish you all better luck. We will not be going back!

First time at the Chophouse Jan 2003. No reservations. Seated promptly at 6:30PM(Fri) Found the meat (Filet) to be the amoung best I have had at any place. All other items were of equal quality. I do wonder why a place of this quality would still have a salad bar??? The wait staff was good, but under par for this restaurant. Better timing and attentiveness are required. The seating is a bit cramped for most carnivores. But I would go back again for the food! The Chef(s) are great!

My meal was excellent (chilean sea bass-- highly recommended). The food was great, the atmosphere was nice, the service was excellent. Even the price was comparable similar establishments (Angus Barn, Fins, Ruth Chris, etc., Prime Only, etc.). One final note. I've seen several folks compare Capital City to the Angus Barn. For my money, Capital City is far superior. I have been to the Angus Barn a handful of times over the span of six or seven years. None of my visits were distinguished in any way. The food wasn't awful, but it certainly wasn't great, especially when the price is factored in. So if you want atmosphere and "high society" status, go to the Angus Barn. If you want a romantic, cozy spot with great food (at least the seafood seems great) go to Capital City.

I went there for dinner after my college graduation. We had a reservation for 9 for 8 pm, but the people sitting at our table did not want to leave. Even though we kept asking the hostess about our table she was always extremely polite. The table had finished eating at 7:45 and were just talking, so eventually one of the managers had to ask them to leave. Waiting was very aggravating at the time. We finally sat down at 8:30 at one of the nicest tables in the restaurant. Not only was the service incredible and the food fabulous, but our waiter gave us three free desserts and did not charge us for the extra sides we ordered. What could have been a ruined evening turned into one of the greatest meals I've ever had.

My wife and I used to travel to Greensboro to Gate City Chop House for this kind of food and service so we were very pleased when Capitol city was opened. I recomend the cajun seared beef tips w/orange marnier sauce for an appitizer ummm.
The service and especially the presentation of entrees make each visit a delight.

Went there for the first time earlier this week. Had heard raves and now I know why. The atmosphere is excellent, it's great for 2 or 10. The waitstaff is superb, all your needs are taken care of, without anyone 'hovering'. I'll go to restaurant if the service is great even if the food is just adequate, however, at the CCCH, the food is the best !!! Couldn't find anything that wasn't perfect. Wouldn't hesitate to suggest it to anyone.

Great steak, a killer black and tan, and the best shrimp bisque I've ever put in my mouth. A great place!

We held our rehearsal dinner here, as well as some trial dinners before we decided on this place. The restaurant may be in the middle of nowhere but once you enter, you are welcomed and seated and professional waiters with vast knowledge of food and chef's cuisine greet and take your order. The service is very good and the staff is very professional. They made our rehearsal dinner a fabulous and memorable one. Thank you!!!

As for the 01/17/02, the manager (?) in question is gone. So I hope you all will return. For I (an x-cook) will say the management are good now, as for the food, I think it is very good, and the price is competitive.
