My husband and I went here a few weeks after the death of one of our cats. The people of SPCA were empathetic with our loss and kind as they showed us the cats in their very clean, well kept facility. I thought their adoption process/interview was very thorough, which I was VERY grateful for. The animals in this shelter have already endured the unthinkable and some have endured the unspeakable. I trust & respect the SPCA MORE because of the care they have obviously put into crafting the adoption process. Their job is to take care of the animals that have been entrusted to them and to place them in responsible, loving, and financially sound homes. I think they do this job very, very well given the restraints on their budget and resources.

I've given them four stars instead of five because of an unfortunately incorrect diagnosis and treatment of one of the cats we adopted from them. The female cat we adopted had had a lot of health issues (which they did tell us about and that I was okay with). However, they underestimated one of her conditions (two broken teeth), saying that yes it was broken but that she was ok as she was and that it didn't require any medical attention.

A few days later we took them to our vet and learned that she was in pain and the teeth had to be removed. I wish I had known upfront about her condition. I would've made an appointment for her right away instead of having our poor girl in pain any longer than she had to be.

I have to assume that the SPCA vet who examined our girl was overwhelmed with patients and overlooked this, a simple human error. Regardless, I highly recommend adopting from the SPCA, but would urge adopters to have their new pets checked out ASAP by their regular vet, just in case.

Our dog came from the Wake SPCA, and it was a wonderful experience. They answered all our questions and stayed in touch to make sure that we were very happy with our new pet. They also offered a behaviorist followup to make sure that our new pet was settling in well!

This is a great place to find a pet, friend or loved one. I adopted two of my cats at this place and was so happy with the facilities. These two cats have been part of my family for a long time. The people that work here are very helpful in helping you find an additon to your family.

The animals all looked happy and healthy. The dogs have beedrooms and the cats have play rooms.

If you are looking to adopt, go check them out.

Lots of volunteers to help you decide.

PROS: clean, easy, inexpensive
CONS: you will want to take them all home

The SPCA is a great place to go if your looking for a new pet. your not really going to find pure bred dogs and cats, but you will find animals in need of a home who areguarenteed to e healthy and have been well cared for. The fee is low for adoption and includes shots and spay/neutering so its almost like the animal is free.
