Jack Sprat has very good food at reasonable prices. The potato salad is fantastic! The portabello sandwich and the Reuben are both good, too. Our waitress was friendly and helpful.

I just have to say that I have been to this bar/restaurant on several occasions in the evening. It can be a good hang out environment. Bartenders are not always that friendly, but you have to get them on a good day.
It seems like a lot of the groupies that hang out there are always there, and there is one gentleman that I question whether or not her changes his clothes. I enjoy Thrusday through Saturday nights there. On Saturdays there has been an excellent DJ playing international music or the occasional live band that is normally really decent. Drink specials are not too bad, but beware the bartender kind go kind of heavy on the drinks.
All in all great music, decent environment, good food.

Jack Sprat is a wholly unpleasant experience.

In my opinion there are two types of coffee shop goers. The first kind are those who want to get a quick cup on the run. This kind of people will experience long delays as the coffee bar is typically staffed by only one barista, even though there are almost always many other employees around. The problem here is that someone wanting a cup of drip coffee (about 60 seconds to fill) must wait behind each person who orders an espresso drink (2-5 minutes per item). There is clearly no attempt at pipelining or efficiency here, and a line at starbucks which is 4 times as long will clear much faster.

The second type of coffee shop goer is the one who orders a drink to consume in house, and enjoys sitting at a table and taking their time. These people should never go in the summer, when they face an onslaught of flies. Additionally, the place is uncomfortably warm.

Both types of coffee goers will experience the same problematic staff, who seem to fit the coffee shop stereotype to a tee: apathetic, rude, entitled, etc.

To their credit, the coffee is good. And the food is tasty although more expensive than most places on Franklin Street.

These comments are not the result of a single bad experience. Every 6 months I try to give them another try and regret it every time. I typically try to support the local businesses but Jack Sprat is far too challenging.

Thanks to Jack Sprat Cafe for being a supporter of the arts in Chapel Hill. For those of us trying to "make it" in the arts it is so important for us to have venues and Jack Sprat has been there for us.

Art adds to the flavor of the cafe.

Had lunch there recently. Excellent portobello sandwich with side salad. Top shelf margaritas were tasty too. Server was very nice and attentive. They offer Wi-Fi which is always nice.

The Jack Sprat Cafe is now where Strongs used to be. But it does not life up to it's great precessor. The atmosphere is too steril. The comfy sofa's are gone. The staff is now located much farther away from the customers, limiting all interaction to the time the purchuase is made.

It's an okay place to do your homework (although the refills are ovcerpriced event though the cups are smaller) ... but nothing to write home about..

PROS: many study places
CONS: steril cafeteria feel

Jack Sprat is a quiet, open restaurant that has a bistro feel to it. The menu is not as comprehensive as I would have liked, but the salads are wonderful (try the bistro salad with mushrooms). For coffee lovers, the coffee is incredible. No need for a venti half-decaf, skim, caramel latte--just go for the regular coffee. A lot of people go to Jack Sprat with a laptop or a book, so it's a friendly environment for those who like to eat alone.

PROS: coffee, atmosphere, attractive staff
CONS: limited menu
