I judge a guitar store on two things: How do they fix their mistakes, and how many of my keeper guitars came from that store.

I've been going to Harry's for over 25 years and in the rare case where there was a problem, they fixed it.

I have 11 guitars in my collection, and 6 are from Harry's and I travel all over to try out lefty guitars. Bought and sold many over the years, but Harry's sets me up with KEEPER guitars, which is the big difference.

I have gotten real good deals money-wise, but that's after years of being a loyal customer.

In general, small businesses can't always compete dollar for dollar with large chain stores like Smash and GC, but this store more than makes up for that by setting you up with a guitar that fits you. They set them up before stocking them unlike the larger stores. And they fix them quickly and right. And more to the point, they are honest. In 25 years I have always been given straight up information that is spot on about the guitar I had in my hand, or what I needed to do when asking for advice.

Get to know these guys, all professional musicians, all knowledgable, all have strong opinions on gear and the industry, and gosh darn if they aren't right about them in the end.

If that's a problem, go to the local chain store, with their factory set-up guitars, talk to the kid in a local thrash band tell you what you want to hear so he can keep his job with quotas and commission.

I bought a guitar online from these turkeys. They flat out LIED about the condition of the guitar I purchased. Buyer BEWARE of anything they say as they will tell you anything to sell you something!!!

Worst guitar shop in RALEIGH bar none! Multiple bad interactions and I've finally learned my lesson.
1. Went in to ask a simple question about a problem with my guitar and their guitar tech wanted his standard bench fee just to answer my questions. (I didnt even have the guitar with me!)
2. After comparing prices locally on 3 items, Harry's came out at least 10-30% overpriced on all accounts in comparison.
3. I went in to play on a few of their Taylors and higher dollar guitars and the whole time I was there, the older store clerk glared at me and stood over me the whole time. I felt very uncomfortable and bought my Taylor elsewhere.
4. They sold a close friend of mine a "new" pedal at retail that had apparently been a demo model and had scratches all over the bottom of it when he got it home and took it out of the box.
They rectified the situation, but he had to drive 40 minutes back to them to get a "new" pedal.

I don't recommend this guitar shop to ANYONE. I'd sooner shop at SCAM ASH...

I needed a few small parts for my guitar. I went to a few guitar shops in Crossroads. They would not give me the time of day. No one at Crossroads would help me. I went to Harry's and what a difference. They bent over backward to help me. If you are looking for a Amp or Guitar, Harry's is the place. Expert service . They care !

...and he's the best. Everyone at Harry's is great, but if Harry is helping you, you'll be an instant return customer. He's a terrific musician, and he will spend the time with you to figure out what you really want. He's very straight forward, and you don't get the feeling that he just wants to sell you something. He actually wants you to be happy with your purchase in the long run.

Terry and Pee Wee are also great.. really down to earth guys, and you can tell that genuinely love what they do. You can also take lessons there, but I think there's a waiting list. It's kind of a hot spot.

The shop's been around since 1985... Harry knows what he's doing. Sure it's in a great location, but Glenwood South wasn't as jumpin' 23 years ago as it is today. Businesses come and go around the shop almost annually, but Harry's Guitar Shop has become a staple of Raleigh's downtown culture.

You certainly won't get the same experience anywhere else. I would highly recommend checking out Harry's first.

I've been a musician for years...singing and playing piano, string bass, and violin. But I knew nothing about guitars other than I wanted to learn to play it. Harry acknowledged us when we first walked in, but left us alone a while to look around. When he stopped back to check on us, he ended up spending 45 minutes helping us. We played a number of instruments, talked about and listened to the different "voices" of of different manufacturers, wood combinations, etc. He was extremely knowledgeable and went out of his way to help. And the place wasn't overcrowded, so you could actually hear yourself play the guitar. We then went to the Guitar Center and Sam Ash "big box" stores for comparison. We didn't last 5 minutes in either store before leaving. Guitar Center was wall-to-wall people and the salespeople were just that...pushy salespeople. No one at Sam Ash would help us. I will be going back to Harry's this week to purchase my first guitar, and then sign up for lessons from one of his instructors. Hands down, Harry's is the place.

We went in for guitar picks this afternoon .... sales clerks hovered about us but didn't ask us what type we needed or where to find them, just sort of let us wing it... We found the picks we needed and went to the register, wallet on the counter, handbag set ready to buy, you know the drill.... there was nobody behind the counter, nobody asking to help us, and when someone *did* get behind the register, they helped THREE PEOPLE check out before us, even though we were there first. The only reason we went to Harry's was because of the reputation and the proximity to our house ... it was one of the single worst customer service/retail experiences I have ever seen. I will never visit this shop again. No kudos to Harry's.

The staff members here really takes their time helping you find the right guitar! Harry's is downtown, easy to find and very fun. They have a large selection of electric and acoustic guitars and supplies and will let you experiment to find what you want! My husband loves his new electric guitar from Harry's!

Harry's has been around since I was a small child. They have maintained their biggest strength throughout the years, which is their knowledge. They can tell you anything about any question related to guitars, and their service cannot be beat.
