this is the best place for homemade bread! Not only do you experience the atmosphere of the old days but the treats are so yummy
5Nothing is more fun at any time of the year than to enter this old bakery that has been operating since the early days of Salem. The smell is the best. I like the costumed bakers kneading the dough and firing up the ovens. They always have a sample to offer you. I have gone with large school groups and they just love having the children come in and cater to their questions and usually the children come prepared to purchase some treat at the bakery. It is so interesting seeing them roll out the unbelievably thin moravian cookies and making the loaves of bread and fixing them so that they can rise. This is a very small bakery. You can sit outside on two benches and eat your treats. The bakery has been restored to look like it did in the 1700's and the bakers are dressed in costume dress. You can drive on the cobblestone streets and park on the street out front, but it is best to park your car in the big visitor lot and walk.
PROS: Aroma, atmosphere
CONS: Little pricey
