My extended family went to see the Come Sit a Spell exhibit at the garden since we knew of two people/groups that entered benches. I have never seen such a shotty job of hosting an art exhibit, but also the look of the signs for the art

Pros: I'm not sure there are any.

Cons: Looks dirty, dry and hot, do they care?

Daniel Stowe is a wonderful spot for everyone year round. It is a work in progress, but an beautiful and exciting one. Look at the model as you come inside and you'll see the dream continuing to evolve. They have workshops, holiday decor and pics with Peter rabbit or Santa... Daniel Stowe is mostly full sun, and it is true that often the drinking fountains outside are not working. The great thing about no restaurant is the ability to bring from home! Bring a picnic, fast food, cooler, sunblock, hat, parasol or umbrella. Refill you water bottle @ indoor drinking fountains located next to the restrooms. You'll have an armband to return. There are also drinks, sandwiches, and ice cream in the gift shop. Sit at the patio tables for shade or picnic tables for sun. Heat is a valid concern, especially for children and elderly. Come inside to cool off and venture back out when you feel refreshed. There is a lovely arching fountain for the children and adventurous adults to walk through, risking a nice soak. Bring the children's suits! On our last visit a large harmless black snake was the star of the show for boys and some girls. A great asset for a garden. The best way to save if you want to visit often is a membership, especially for families. Annual membership for a family is $75 regardless of size. We joined before construction ever began and we visit often. Constructive criticism is needed to build and improve. (There is no need for hurtful, condescending work related comments. Many people are out of work!) This is about the gardens!

I recently visited the Orchid Conservatory. I loved it. It's so beautiful and serene. They decorated it for Christmas too, which was nice. They did a wonderful job. As for the bug comment I just read...wow, it's filled with plants. what exactly did you expect? Bugs happen. Anyway, if you have the opportunity, you should definitely go and visit the gardens. They're just beautiful. It's a bit smaller then I expected, but they're expanding so after a bit and with some helpful donations, it will be an even nicer experience. I loved it.

I am very dissapointed to hear your comments on the orchid conservatory. The bugs, well, are a part of life. An indoor environment lacks the natural predators that usually control insect problems outdoors, so that is a challenge. The conservatory is completely organic for both the health and safety of our guests and employees, as well as to provide a safe environment for our butterflies that will be exhibited this fall.
Volunteers are always welcomed, as hand picking bugs and spraying insecticidal soaps is very time consuming, on top of hand watering, pruning, and attempting to keep fast growing tropical plants within their bounds!
Are you a former employee?

Never mind, I know who you are... Sorry it didn't work out, GROW UP!!!

I didn't find this place as amazingly wonderful as the others have said, in fact, that one guy said the greenhouses were wonderful at a date when the orchid conservatory wasn't even built, and there are no greenhouses open to the public there.

I felt the place looked messy and overgrown. Prices are high for admission and there is no food there. There's not even a restaurant or gas station nearby.

I got sunburned wondering through the english cottagye gardens that went on and on and on. There is no shade, and the only water available to drink I guess is drinking from the decorative large fountains since in the gardens the drinking fountains are broken. I thought this was a new garden that had money.

I also was disgusted by the bird cage they had outdoors. The poor things crap in their food and water bowls and it didn't look like the water or seed cups had been cleaned or changed for a LONG TIME.

Where was the tram? They were giving kids rides around, but all of us in the sun had to walk back forever to get to anything.

There has to be better stuff closer in to Charlotte proper.

After the buzz I have been reading about, my friends and I went to Daniel Stow Botanical Garden. First off, it is NOWHERE close to any of the interstates as their advertising states 'convenient access to interstates 77a nd 85' NOT. With

Pros: it's outdoors, clean bathrooms

Cons: weedy, sterile, no information on plants or gardens, no shade, no water

.

This garden is in a very pastoral setting to begin with along Route 279, and the entrance is calming seeing the meadows and trees. It leads up to a great visitor center, with an AMAZING stained glass dome inside (look up once inside the doors!) THere's a garden shop and it seems many rent the central hall for wedding receptions often.

The White Garden is a terrific enclosed courtyard (where the wedding was going on), and there are 2 long Color Arbors with great combinations of plants and vines on the support columns.

Can't forget to mention FOUNTAINS!!!! Love the sight and sounds of them across the grounds. I think the most dramatic is what is called the Canal Garden. A very long vista of perennials and tropical looking plants along a water canal with sculptures. At the end is another fountain. Very pleasing to the eye, and plants are labelled so you can figure out what it is you're looking at. I didn't know there were that many hardy palms.

They are building a large conservatory. REALLY curious as to what'll be inside that. There will be something to see in coldest part of winter or on a rainy day. Just too many interesting and beautiful and peaceful things to say.

Yay!

The gardens and greenhouses are wonderfully maintained and quite a sight! I recently attended a wedding that was held at the Gardens. The location and staff are top notch. Everything was in bloom and perfectly manacured. I honestly have never been to a more spectacular site for a wedding/reception!

These fountain gradens are mature now and provide a nice show. The white wedding garden has small, immature plantings. It is in full sun (as is all the garden area) and without trellis. If your looking for lush shaded gardens with mature
