Tryon Palace not only has beautiful gardens but throughout the year they have ongoing tours. I took my children during homeschool days and they got to make dolls, weave, roll wool into balls and so much more. If you have the time stop in and visit with the staff. Your children will love you and you'll enjoy your time. Picnicing on the grounds is very peaceful as you watch the children run and water flow down the river.

PROS: gardens are beautiful, lots of activities
CONS: far from home
