I was introduce to the Coffee Cup (what I would a call a soul food restaurant), but a Caucasian co-worker when I first moved to Charlotte. He always went on and on about how good it was and how much he knew I??d like it. Then one day on lunch break we took a ride over and what can I say?the cube steak, mac and cheese, greens a corn bread was quite tasty! I??m grateful that they were able to stay in business and mark an Historical Place in Charlotte, because I??m sure they would have been a lot of upset customers, including myself. Then I was pleased to see another location near where I reside in the University Area.

The food here is down home southern cooking at its best. Authentic 'soul food' that tastes like it came right from your grandmother's kitchen table. I haven't ordered anything from the menu that I didn't like, and the staff is very friendly and sociable. The downsides are that this is not the healthiest of foods, but it tastes great! :-) Secondly, the restaurant tends to get a bit crowded during lunch. But other than that, I would recommend to anyone who wants some great, down-home cooking.
