This little store in Blakeny helps in finding the right gift for people. The selection of Zutano for babies is wonderful. I purchase the same white beach hat that ties under the neck for my kids every year. They are awesome. The bigger kids section is very overpriced though. Cute toys to pick up for little birthday parties too. Staff is always very nice.

Celebrated Charlotte children's retailer since 2000, Looby Loo packed up its fabulous selection in March 2007 and moved to the current location at Blakeney Village (Ballantyne), 9852 Rea Road. The move was influenced by the growth of the young family population of Ballantyne, and surrounding areas, but more so by the owners?? renovation of a nearby 1930s farmhouse built by a great-grandfather. Faves are still here, from Zutano infantwear, Haba, eeBoo, Rody in a rainbow of colors, a satisfying book selection, children's music with grown-up appeal, and the coolest kids' fashions in the Queen City. The store is set in a spunky, pedestrian-style shopping center which includes excellent eateries, skin care boutique Potion, Charlotte's first Swoozies store, Hue, Ann Taylor, Handpicked, and many more. Phone number: 704-544-3110; Hours:10am-6pm M-Sat. (closed Sundays).

It's hard to fathom the previous (albeit 2005) reveiwer's take on this value-driven, if upscale, store. Perhaps he or she is more partial to resale shops or big box discount stores and thinks that children should play with, wear and give their friends cheap, meaningless, poorly made items. Looby Loo has added several great mid-priced clothing brands in the last few years, such as Me Too (reminiscent of Oilily by a fraction of the price), Claesen's and Haven Girl. The knowledgeable and friendly staff also adds a breath of fresh air to the Charlotte children's market, where the stuffy environment can often be cut with a silver monogrammed cake knife.

Looby Loo has some great kids clothes but you'd better have plenty of money when you go there. They are expensive but there's plenty from which to choose and the staff is friendly and helpful. It's one of those places you go to rarely - only when you really want to buy something special and costly. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend them because of their prices.
