Once again I have to say I Love, love, love Aveda! My stylist, Jackie, was great and attentive. She made me feel comfortable and helped me leave a lot more relaxed than when I came in. I can't say enough about aveda the place is great and their products are amazing! If you don't have time to get your hair done at least go buy some shampoo and immediately your hair feels and looks healthier!

Aveda is world famous, and this is where Aveda specialists are trained. So you get the benefit of their expertise for a very reasonable cost. Everyone is very helpful and well-bred; and you get services at an unbeatable price. What's not to like?

Aveda Institute Chapel Hill is a great place to have your hair done. I chose to be the first client of a student and couldn't have been happier with the experience!

I went to Aveda Institute for a partial highlight. Ana who has been doing my hair the past couple of months did another fantastic job. I especially loved the styling tip she gave to me for my curly hair. In all my 30 years of curly hair, I have never had a stylists show me how to make my curls look different and curlier. Instead of the the scrunched up look they normally have, In a matter of minutes she showed me a simple technique to make them look like natural ringlets. All this was done in less than 10 minutes and with the simple touch of my own finger! That's right, no curling iron and very little product. I left with a bounce in my step. The staff was very friendly and professional.

This was the worst experience I have ever had in my life!! My hair is ruined! I know that you have to sign a waiver because they are students, but I also THOUGHT the supervisors would be there to check on things regularly. This was certainly not the case!! My hair is totally ruined and I would never recommend this place to anyone! It will cost me a lot more money than I saved by going here to ever get my hair damage fixed. It will probably have to grow out to really ever be fixed. If you have to go there, don't see anyone but a senior student, and even then, it's a real risk! I don't feel like they are on the side of the consumer at all there, but out to make all the money they can.

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, anywhere else!!! i can appreciate that it is important to protect and care for your students, but what about your clientele? the management at this location is under the impression that being rude and condescending is an appropriate way to treat their paying customers. After receiving a piss pour pedicure where I slid around in my chair everytime my student moved and having my soak in a bowl full of cold water, I wanted to tell the management that it was irresponsible to have the students double over their clients. they will hurt their backs, etc... the receptionist asked me how my experience was and when I began to give my ""constructive criticism"" she cut me off and started tlaking to someone else. I told her after the other client left that she shouldn't ask if she didn't care. push come to shove, i asked for the manager who was even more rude. he told me that nails aren't a priority and that it's below his students b/c they pay 20K a year in tuition! Well guess what? i'm a dentist and my tuition was more like 50K a year and I had to pay for 4 years, so sorry if that doesn't impress me! i'm never going back. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, ANYWHERE ELSE!!!

I've gone to Aveda for years now. I've always enjoyed it. This last time was a little off. I didn't get offered a complementary facial - maybe they don't do that anymore. That used to be a nice addition to the haircut..

Aveda Institue offers great service and value. The quality of its services is far better than many salons that I have visited. The student stylists are patient and the instructors will guarantee the quality. You will be happy with the results.

My experience at the Aveda Salon and school was a very poor one. The technicians were unprofessional and their skill level was of the poorest quality. The techs continually spoke to each other and anyone passing by. They were not prepared with the items needed to perform the services. They were actually hurting my nails by scraping the surface. The shaping and polishing of nails and feet was uneven. The polishing looked as if it were done by a five year old. The nail area was very dirty. The techs attitude was one of disinterest and certainly not geared to good service. I will never have those services there again. The instructors checked the techs work. They are either suffering from poor eyesight or did not care about the student's work. Horrible experience.

I have been going to the Aveda Institute in Chapel Hill for the past several years for haircuts and partial highlights. I have had a great experience every time I have visited. I have always gotten compliments on the cuts. The stylists are knowledgeable and do a great job on my "mind of its own" hair. They also have been very good at honoring my instructions that my hair has to look great without any assistance from me or "products". I do not do hair and frankly am a klutz at at. Keep in mind that it IS a school...and the stylists are learning so it does take longer than a regular salon as the work is checked by instructors, who will intervene if necessary. The little extra services - the mini-facial, the teas, the mini-massages or make-up sessions are a nice and welcome bonus. On the rare occasion that I misjudged how long the appointment would take, a staffer was kind enough to go out and feed the meter. The pricing is very reasonable.

The important thing for everyone to understand is this is a school. Not only are the students slower, they have to stop periodically and have instructors check their progress. It can take several minutes for the stylist to wander around the salon trying to get a teacher to help them. Be prepared that it may take several hours and if you are typically an impatient person this may not be the best choice for you. I agree the salon needs to be redecorated, the price for nail services needs to be dramatically reduced, something needs to be done to explain the issue of time, and that the students are over worked (and not allowed to accept tips). But the hair services are mostly great. Definitely better than going to cost cutters or some place like that. I like the students because they really want to do a good job. They arent yet jaded. Give it a try but just make sure you have a free schedule and lots of coins for parking. Before you schedule a hair color or cut, request a student to give you a "wash and style" You can scope out the place and decide whether or not you feel comfortable having anything permanent done to your hair and have no worries during the process.

The Aveda Institute in Chapel Hill is the best service for price. While those performing the services are students, they want to do their job well, and they are required to be reviewed by their supervisor at least after doing the service but oftentimes prior to starting what they have discussed doing with the customer. I definitely recommend going here, especially for the more spa-like services.

My husband and I have been going to Aveda for haircuts for about 2 years now. We always request an advanced student, and have been very pleased with the results all but once. The complimentary mini facial or hand massage is a nice treat. Aveda is definitely the place to get a trendy haircut without breaking the bank, and we will continue to patronize it.

I have already been a client at Aveda Institute for about 2 years, and practically every time it was really good. Especially I liked the work done by my first stylist Mr. Jay Felton (who is an instructor now) and who I liked very much due to his high quality work when I was his client during my two first visits, and I also liked quality of my recent partial highlights done my Ms. Mal-Seiik under his supervision (moreover she is a charming person). I am planning to return to Aveda again and I would recommend this salon to all my friends.

I have been getting my hair highlighted at Aveda Institute for almost two years. I have always been very pleased with the service and products. It does take a little longer compared to a normal salon, but you cannot beat the price. I have thoroughly enjoyed my hair color and always receive compliments from friends.

I've been about 5 times to get a haircut, and each time have been impressed by the cut. I've gotten a trim once, about 2-3 inches taken off a couple of times, and once gotten about 6 inches off. It takes about 2 hours to get a cut, since the stylists are students. You can ask for a student that is about to graduate, in which case your cut should take less time. The teachers are constantly walking around and check on your cut 2-3 times. This helped me feel confident, as I knew the student had to do their best. Once, I had a student that had never done my type of cut before, and the teacher was with us 75% of the time, which worked well. I would definitely recommend coming here!

I really enjoyed my experience at the Aveda School Salon. I was uncertain as to what I would find when I first walked in and was pleased to see the wide array of students and the instructors walking around to assure that quality was taking place.\r\n\r\nThe girl who did my hair was VERY thourough...I mean, wouldn't you be if your instructor checked on you the entire time, and I left the salon with great 2 toned highlights and a fatter pocketbook than I would have in any other salon.\r\n\r\nI will definitely go back. I was very pleased.

I've been going to Aveda for several years and have been pleased with every cut. They have worked with me to help find the cuts and colors that work with my faceshape and hair texture, while also keeping me looking ""trendy"".\r\nThey can take a bit longer than most salons because they are still in the learning phase. But for the price you can't beat it!\r\n

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at the Aveda Institute. I had a relaxer, and the student quickly identified where she might need a little extra help and got it so that my hair came out beautifully! The instructors came by twice to make sure things were progressing. I felt very comfortable asking questions and making requests for the care of my hair. I especially enjoyed the complimentary facial during the hairwash. To top it off, was to only pay half the cost for the service that I would have had to pay at a full-service salon.

From the minute I stepped into the Aveda institute, I knew that I would be back. The service was exceptional from the front desk staff to the student who gave me my cut and color. Small perks such as a complementary mini-facial during the shampoo will definitely have me coming back for future services.

Well I live in Winston Salem, NC and drive about 75 minutes to get here every 6 weeks. After paying $60.00 for the worst haircut in history by a girl who looked 12, I started on a 'stylist' search. I had heard from friends who live in Chapel Hill about the Aveda Institute and all they have to offer so I thought Id give it a try. I have never been disappointed and its been almost a year. I have gotten mostly stylist who are in the last few weeks of training. They usually recommend someone else for the next cut if they will no longer be available. I have also had a few new stylist and it just takes longer since every few cuts must be approved. However, how wrong can you go with 2 people working on you? I am always offered facials when they wash my hair, I was given a message once while waiting for the stylist to finish up. and Im never charged extra so there are no 'hidden costs' .They always call me to let me know if there is going to be a problem and to also confirm.\r\n Its just a really nice environment and an enjoyable experience.

When I go to Aveda I usually get the waxing services simply because they're cheaper than any other salon. The waxing is always a pleasant experience, however, be prepared to spend a lot of time at Aveda. Since the students are beginners, they are not as fast as someone who waxes as their profession is. With that being said, I have always been pleased

I have visited the Aveda Institute twice since moving to the Chapel Hill area. My first service was the Caribbean body therapy, both the student and the service was wonderful (and the hour was just $50!). On my next visit, I got a pedicure. I had a new student this time, and she was so nice, but definitely not great at the actual service. There was very little massaging involved even though this was part of the service description. I was definitely a little disappointed. Both times I have visited, I have had at least a 30 minute wait, but the prices have justified these small issues. And of course the Aveda products are a plus as well. I am returning for my third service in a few weeks.

I have been going to the Aveda Institute for four years. I have short hair and get my hair cut every six weeks. i have had only one questionable hair cut in all of those I have had over the years.\nThe students are very nice, listen well and are very confident. I feel certain that if they can handle my short, curly, thick hair, they can handle most any hair cut!\nIn addition to the low prices I also like that you don't tip the students. You can tip for a cause to many great charities or choose not to tip at all.\nThe only downfall I find is a haircut, without being styled, usually takes my stylist at least an hour.\nI have recommended this place to many friends and I will continue to do so!

I usually request a student who is pretty far along in the program and I have had fantastic hair cuts and color. It is a very nice experience, with complimentary tea, hand massages and facials. I would definitely recommend it.

I was skeptical to get my hair colored at Aveda because it is all students. I have gotten my hair cut there numerous times, but usually do my hair color myself. I needed to go lighter (after going super dark for winter) so I definitely did not want to do it myself. I did not want to pay $150 or so at a fancy salon so I decided to try it out. Emmy was great (too bad she was graduating the next day) and gave me several ideas. She also grabbed her instructor who had the same idea. It took about 3.5 hours from start to finish, but I am super happy with the results. I want more blond so I am going back in a few weeks! I would highly recommend getting a more advanced student -- I am guessing it would take longer if the student was brand new.

I have been to the Aveda Institute in Chapel Hill twice in the past 4 months. Both times I got partial highlights and a haircut. The students were very knowledgeable and confident in what they did. I loved my highlights and haircut and got a lot of compliments. Everyone working/studying at the Aveda Institute that I have come in contact with has been very courteous, helpful, and professional. I am very impressed with the Aveda Institute and will continue to go there for haircuts and color.

I have been going to Aveda for every haircut I've gotten over the last 2 and 1/2 years. I have never had a bad experience. I have heard of some people say that it is ""hit or miss"", but the only reason I could imagine they might think that is if they weren't specific or clear with their requests. I believe that all of the students are great. They are so eager to learn and want to do a good job. Styling hair is what they enjoy and are attending school in order to perfect. I have also received a pedicure from Aveda, which was another good experience. I was very impressed by the students willingness and attentiveness in all aspects of spa thearpy (I know I wouldn't want to mess with my own feet, haha). \n\nI would and do recommend Aveda to all of my friends as a great place to get a hair cut and relax a little bit too.

I am a college student and always looking for affordable services. I have been getting my haircut at Aveda in Chapel Hill for about a year and have always been very satisfied with my experience. Regular hair cuts range from $19-22 and tips are in the form of a donation to the charity they are supporting at that time. The staff is great and instructors at the institution are very good about coming around to check the students work. Overall I would recommend Aveda for an affordable haircut with good recommendations on how to bump up the styling of your hairdo.

The students at Aveda have always done a great job for me, I have been here many times. It's an amazing deal for the wonderful products they have - especially if you color your hair. They may sometimes take a little longer but it's worth the wait!

Dustin Shronts, at The Aveda Institute, is a budding genius here in the triangle! He gave beautiful and radiant highlights....QUICKLY! I wasn't in the chair forever! Best haircut I've had in years! I am going back again! Hurry though, he graduates soon!

This is not a 'college of beauty' as I have ever experienced before. Every haircut that I and my daughter have received from the stylists in training have been as good or better than I have had anywhere else in the country (note I have not received services in CA). I have waited over a month to get into salons in major cities for a top stylist, pay twice the 'going rate' (which is way more than you'll pay here) to walk out with hair and a style that I couldn't wait to change and hated wearing every day until then. The stylists here have always made my hair, and I, look much better. The other services here are good too. Everything is checked and re-checked, the products are much more healthy than any other traditional salon, and the staff and students are really great and want you to be happy! Maybe going in with an expectation of this is a school made my first visit so impressive, but after that they still have never let me down. I hope they keep up the great work. Thanks to Dion for letting me in on this 'secret' to her great looking hair.

I've been going to Aveda for two years now and have always gotten a great hair color and highlights. The school is top notch and they always make certain the customer likes the service provided before the customer leaves. I've also had a few spa treatments - the only downside to that is the incredibly small curtained rooms - but the service is terrific. It does take a bit longer as the other reviewers mentioned but worth it since the price is so much less than other places.

I've visited Aveda several times since moving to the area. I like the atmosphere and the experience that focuses more on the technical aspects of hair care. You can actually learn something! The instructors are always present for consultation and to assist if needed and the students are excited about their work. I've gotten some good advice and feel comfortable trying new things that they suggest. Be prepared to spend a LONG time for an appointment. If you go in with this knowledge, you will be fine. If not, you will be annoyed. Keep in mind that it is a training facility and there are tradeoffs. The prices are great but the primary reason for the institute is to teach students. I have found that they are willing to spend as much time and provide as much help as possible to the less skillful students to make the outcome a positive one. Thanks Aveda!

I had a positive experience at Aveda in Chapel Hill. I went in for a haircut with some idea of what I wanted, and my student helped me to better plan the style. She seemed very knowledgeable. I really enjoyed the complementary tea, hair wash and mini-facial. Although the haircut took a while, I had been warned about this, and it did not detract from the high level of service. The students seem to really care about what they are doing.
