Not only was the service lacking, but the food didn't taste that good and it made me SICK. I will never come here again.

We love eating here for special family events! The family style menu is enough to feed an army and the variety is awesome! They also have some gluten free meals and pasta which is great and hard to find in restaurants. We love Maggiano's!

My husband and I went here for the second time last night and were once again very happy with the entire experience. We were seated promptly (there is sometimes a wait on Fri and Sat) by a very courteous hostess and our waitress Melanie came right over. Melanie was not only attentive, she was just such a pleasure, we really enjoyed that she was our waitress (we had a similar experience before). She really personalized the experience for us.
The food was up quickly, and was of good quality. We had the tomato and mozzarella, the spinach salad, the shrimp and linguine with garlic sauce and the Angel Hair with pomodoro sauce. We've also had the mussels. All were fabulous, perfectly cooked and fresh. My husband had the creme brule and I had the cheesecake, also both fantastic, complete with fresh berries and fruit sauce and real whipped cream. No canned fruit compote! We enjoyed it all. I consider myself pretty picky when it comes to italian food and for a chain rest. this place is surprisingly good! The family style dining might be a great option for a larger party, it may seem steep at $25 pp but you get 5 courses and have a wide selection of foods to choose from. I will say they need to expand the entrees for family style or adjust the pricing because most require and extra charge per person of $2-$5 (things like salmon, veal and beef tenderloin).
The food portions are huge, and you will have plenty of food if you order a half portion We ordered half portions and we each took home more than half of our entree and the cheesecake. The desserts are large and perfect for sharing. They also have a nice selection of after dinner drinks. Live music that is not too loud or overwhelming is a nice touch and the rest. portion is smoke free. There is smoking in the bar, they seem to have a good ventilation system because you can't tell.
We'll keep going here, especially when we want a nicer sit down meal with a little ambiance.

Pros: Great food and svc, nice music, grated cheese on the table

Cons: mosr expensive than some surrounding restaurants

We've eaten at Maggiano's several times and have always loved the food. The portions are big, and when you eat family style, the food just won't stop coming. Having the minimum group of 4 people is perfect for family style because everyone gets to choose a couple of favorites without a lot of negotiation. I can't believe they let you take leftovers when you order family style. We usually get at least two more meals out of that! When just my husband and I go, we usually split a salad, meal, and dessert and get plenty to eat for not a bad price. Of my approximately 20 trips there, I have only had poor service once. I was with girlfriends on a Sunday afternoon, and the server did not seem to want to be there. It wasn't nearly as busy as it can be, but he was slow and resented being asked for anything. The only thing I don't like is that the tables downstairs are way too close together. A lot of big groups eat there, and it is easy to get trapped (not easily able to cut a path to the restroom) or just claustrophobic with your chair practically touching someone else's.

Cons: crowded arrangement, located in Durham while I live in Raleigh

I made reservations for v-day for 9:30pm and when we got to Maggiano's, it was was packed. They said that we were gonna have to wait which sucked because whats the point of making a reservation when you don't even get to be seated for that time. We ended up waiting 20 mins past our reservation time with no were to sit and wait because it was really crowded. The food made up for it tho. By the time we sat down, we were starving and we wanted some good food. The fried cheese we ordered was so good and my main course was really good. The place was really nice too. Our waiter was nice as well.

I've heard nothing but great things about Maggios and soo when my in laws come in from FL I thought it would be a great idea to finally experience the greatness and enjoy a good dinner with them and my family (12 of us altogether).. we did it all from A-Z made the reservatation ahead of time.. got there early.. .got a great seat!! and when the time came to see the menu!! well I was not really impressed.. first off who charges $25.00 per person for family style and then an additional $2-5 dollars additional for veal or shirmp!!! with that,we opted for the al la carte menu and ordered.. well about 1 1/2 later we were still waiting for our meals and when it finally came ,it was not good at all!! The pasta was really hard.. garlic powder was used instead of fresh garlic..mushrooms tasted funny as if canned .. just not as soo upper class it was all made out to be!! Very disappointed.. :( we're from NY and know that there is no comparision when it come to food but Red Robin was another place we took our in-laws and they rated that the best place they ate during their visit!! WOW!!

I've been to maggiano's in durham several times and at several different times during the week. I love love love the food there, especially the veal and mushroom ravioli and surprisingly, there steaks were wonderful as well. Service is good, and highly attentive as long as you go to the restaurant during the non-busy times (i.e. weekday afternoons and early weekend days). I would recommend this restaurant to most everybody, if not for the decor; but for the food--it truely is wonderful.

I used to frequent the Maggiano's location in Denver when I lived there. I was excited to see that Soutpoint also had a location. I have gone on numerous occasions, and the food is great. "Rigatoni D" is one of my favorites, and they have great salads. (I always get the 1/2 order when available and have some leftover for lunch the next day.) My husband and I have boycotted their dinner service, however. On several occasions, we have observed inattentive and unconcerned host staff. It is impossible to have a pleasant experience waiting for a table there. The bar/waiting area is often standing-room only, and it is difficult to sit down, get a drink, or even get out of the way of off-road strollers. I had been employed as a hostess during college, and I am constantly amazed as I watch the staff at the Southpoint Maggiano's greet patrons with a blank stare and stand around as tables become available. I understand that often times tables are being held for larger parties or to keep servers from becoming overwhelmed, but not that often. The host staff acts as if they are doing you a favor letting you eat there. If you go, go during less busy times where your contact with the front podium will be minimized.

Cons: crowded, long wait times

Went on Saturday with my family, first time at the restaurant. We were promptly seated in the non-smoking dinner area, the food was alright - my pasta was fairly overcooked but it still had a good taste to the sauce. Service was ok, altho the waitress refilled unsweet tea with sweet tea. What really ruined it for me though was the fact that the tobacco smoke was thick in the dining area. Ok, you're allowed to smoke by the bar but why make the effort to have a non-smoking section if you're going to have all the smoke float over to the dining area? Their baby changing station in the ladies room was also incredibly crammed - it's inside a bathroom stall, I guess the thought is you can close the door for privacy, but they didn't leave you nearly enough space to actually be able to.

It actually has good food.

Maggiano's is certainly not your typical North Carolina Italian Restaurant. The tomato sauce isn't made with ketchup and the dishes are more than pizza or spaghetti and meatballs.

Maggiano's Little Italy, simply put, has the best Italian food you're going to get outside of the real Little Italy (or what's left of it). The food is incredible. The food is authentic. The drink list is extensive. The atmosphere is nice. Yes, it's loud, so is every other restaurant you'll ever go to.

People seem to be complaining an awful lot about the wait and then they go on to say the food isn't good. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but if you have to wait 45 minutes for a table on a Wednesday afternoon at 4:00, there's a reason for that - the food is fantastic.

If paying $15 for Spaghetti-o's is more your style, go to Olive Garden or any of the other numerous Italian restaurants in the Triangle. If you want to pay $15 for an authentic Italian meal, your best option is Maggiano's Little Italy.

Considering I'm from New York, it's hard for me to admit that there's actually a restaurant, let alone a chain, in Durham, NC that can rival the Italian I could get back home. But when something is this good, I can't do anything but admit it.

If you're interested in eating at Maggiano's, I would suggest making a reservation a week or so in advance. They get booked quickly.

Great food, atmosphere and service. It doesn't get much better than this when it comes to Italian dining. Servings are quite large. I don't think I've ever had a chance to get to the desert menu. One day....

Atmosphere is good if you are going with full family or a group of friends - certainly not great for a couple looking for an intimate dinner experience. Service was average. We had reservations for 7.00pm - and were promptly seated - got our bread, water etc from the 'bus-boy'. Main waitress came almost 15-20minutes later with nary a apology. She seemed very hurried while taking our order and hardly came by later. Both appetizers and main entrees took a long time coming (not necessarily a bad thing unless you are very hungry). Portions were huge - taste was okay - not the best Italian food I've had.

My husband and I took our four kids for dinner. We had to ask for 2 high chairs, as if the guy seating us didn't see us carrying two babies. We were not given any kids menus. When the waiter FINALLY came, we still had to ask for kid menus, and were told they were out of crayons. Several things we ordered they were out of, including lemonade and salmon. The wait for our food was very long, and the food was just okay. Not worth putting up with the poor/rude service, that's for sure!

This restaurant is worth going to for the chicken mushroom pasta dish alone!!! It is so delicious. I would recommend this place for groups, rather than for a romantic meal. Its got a lively and fun atmosphere and you can't beat the food.

I go to Maggiano's regularly and have yet to be disappointed. My company ate there on Friday with a group totalling 14 people. With a group that large you generally expect to have a least one problem but not here. We dined "family style" for lunch and one of my co-workers has an allergy and the chef came out, helped her with her order and made her a special meal. That doesn't happen on a bust Friday at lunch but it did here. Food and service that were outstanding.

The service was hurried and impersonal as usual. Just to give you an idea of the level of the service that we received, when I asked the waitress about a particular appetizer, she said "Oh, no one ever orders that." I said, "Okay, but can you tell me what it is in it and how large of a portion it is?" She responded, "No one orders that, you should get something else." Can you believe that? That is not only poor service, but just plain idiocy. We just threw up our hands and said, "Forget it." Why would a server whose tip depends not only on what is ordered, but also the quality of the service do something like that? Why would Maggiano's hire someone like that? I don't know. And I don't care. Maggiano's has made it clear that they don't want my money. I won't be visiting again.

My family & friends have dined at this restaurant on 4 occasions, the past 2 being most disappointing, actually insulting - Our service was very abrupt, even rude - The staff was unfriendly, most unwelcoming - Our large party tried to make it more festive by attempting to include the waiter in minute of conversation - He told us "I'm too busy to talk" which we accepted since it appeared that he was infact chasing around quite abit - After a confirmed 25 minute wait for our check after completing our meals, I finally had to ask him for it - He sighed, got my credit card, returned to the table and told me to "just throw it on the table after I had signed it"..."(he) didn't have time to deal with it"...his exact words - I literally threw it on the table as he had instructed and left -

My fiancee' and I went to Maggiano's the other night for our one year anniversary, while we were there, my fiancee' is allergic to dairy and wanted to order a dish. We advised the server about his condition. Within minutes, a chef came out (this was at 7:30 at night!) and explained to us the details of the dish and that it would be prepared with care. What service! We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and the excellent food and service at Maggiano's! Granted it is crowded, but what restaurant isn't on a Saturday or Friday night? It was busy, but our server took good care of us. Highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to sit and enjoy, but don't mind the crowdy nights (a tip~go to this place during midday or early evening for a relaxed dinner before 7 pm)

The wait was very long. The staff was very unprofessional. I orderd a steak and it came out with mushrooms (I am alergic to mushrooms and the menu didnt indicate the steak was served with mushrooms). After another twenty minutes I received another steak that was burned. The manager said he would take care of our bill but never
came back to our table so we ended up paying and leaving. This place is not what it used to be.

we hosted a surprise party for 28 people at maggiano's and from the instant that we arrived, I could not have been more impressed. We had two generous tables in the center of the main dining room and the very second we sat down, the waiter came to take our drink orders. the staff was nothing short of impeccable. And, as usual, the food was delicious. I had pre-ordered a family style dinner and the waiters immediately brought the food to the table while managing multiple requests with precision. The courses were seamlessly brought, plates changed, and glasses filled. Our waiters even managed to perfectly and delicately split the checks. Thanks to Maggiano's, only thing I had to be concerned about during the entire dinner was that the birthday girl didnt have too much to drink! Highly recommended for large groups.

Pros: fabulous service, helpful staff, incredible food!

Cons: somewhat costly

.

We have been to Maggiano's several times and think it's the best. The last time we brought our relatives from Pgh. there and they were really impressed.
One day on the way to see my son in the hospital at Chapel Hill all he wanted to eat was a pizza from Maggiano's. He loved it!
I guess I have to admit my other son is a chef there and he is really happy there.

Cons: haven't found any

What can I say, never had a bad meal there. Family style is a great deal, especially with kids!
Be prepared to wait for a table, tho.

It's Little Italy for those whose notions of Little Italy come from Godfather movies. However, the food is good, if not terribly authentic.

The ambience is, well, Grand Central Station during rush hour. The noise level is high, servers seem rushed, not a place for a relaxing dinner.

As for the wait - 3 hours for a table in a chain restaurant in a mall in Durham, NC. The food wasn't THAT good.

Took a group of friends to Maggiano's, and we were all happy, full, and impressed! The Family Style dining is great! We had calamari that wasn't rubbery (like it can sometimes be), the spinach salad was delicious... oh, and the wine list was huge!! everyone had their fill, and we even had a few boxes to take home.... HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT!!!

Everything is usually pretty good... except if you want to get in on a Friday or Saturday night, apparently you REALLY have to call ahead... I called 2 days before I wanted to go for a nice dinner with a group of friends, and the hostess told me I needed to call 2 WEEKS in advance... never mind - I'd rather go to Vespa!

My date and I were lucky enough to be seated by the Manager Leonel Zuniga who was Maitre'd at the time. He promptly seated us and our waitor was both prompt and extremely knowledgable about the menu items. I was shocked at the level of detail the waitor had for the food, wines and desserts that were offered. Just to dispel a rumor, parties of 8 are more are not required to order family style as I attended a Luncheon in which we had 20 guests. Some ordered a la carte and others from the family style menu. This is one of our favorite restaurants and myself and my fiance just don't want to see if defamed. Good job Maggiano's!

People should be informed if there is a group of ten or more that they have to order from the Family Dining Menu. Meaning the group has to decide what 2 appetizers, salads, etc. they want that will satisfy the entire group. If you know this going in, it might make you decide to split up the tables but sit beside each other. The waiter said we could get as many dishes of the items we ordered. I felt like he was trying to get us out of there quickly. Like cattle, get 'em in and out of here. When we ordered another cheesecake, the waiter said "Another one, I can't believe there wasn't enough". It's not even that great of an Italian Restaurant as far as I'm concerned. It's a pretty big place and if you don't like crowds, don't go.

My wife and I went to Maggiano's for our 34th anniversary. Made reservations a week ahead of time and asked for a nice, quiet booth. Was told "no problem" and given an 8:30 res. on Sat. night. Got there at 5:30 to have a couple of adult bevs. and check the place out. After a couple of hours was told we could have a table at 7:30. We said, "We're in no hurry....we'll wait for our booth at 8:30". At 8:45 we got our cattle call and left the corral. Followed the "hostess" who sat us at the worst TABLE in the place, right next to the "hostess" station and a drafty side door. My wife said, "but we requested a booth" .... the "hostess" said, "oh, that's not possible (?!)".... we got up and left. Rude staff, crowded etc. Didn't get to eat!

The food here is actually pretty good (i recomend the Gnocchi Vodka). what annoys me are the HUGE portion sizes and prices. No normal human being can eat a 3 course meal there without a massive amount to throw away. an entree alone is enough. what ends up happening is you order an appitizer, salad, entree and dessert, and end up leaving 1/2 your food and a $80-$100 bill. The wait staff says its for you to take home, but it never tasts as good. seems silly to me.

I was disappointed - a friend at work had recommended this place. The food is very mediocre; garlic bread was not garlicky, Alfredo sauce was thick, but not tasty. Service was mediocre too, child waiter did not remember my order, etc.

Went there to celebrate family birthday, seated before our reservation time, had an attentive waiter (and my family is tough to please). The portions were great and if you think about how much you get to take home or share, the prices are quite reasonable for a restaurant and food of this magnitude. My father is a picky man and had a great time, and I will definitely go back many times.

After our visit there, my husband and I were so disappointed! The service was horrible and the food was cold.
We went a second time in hopes of it being better...NO SUCH LUCK!
They have the romantic atmosphere but THAT'S IT!
PUT SIMPLY - THEY DON'T CARE!

I love Maggiano's..the food is awesome, though the portions are so large that it always ends up coming home with me. The prices are so reasonable. The lasgna is the best I have ever eaten as is the spinach salad. The drinks, well, the sour-apple martini is one you need to try!

Wonderful atmosphere and excellent Italian food. Their were so many choices I did not know what to choose. The flavor of the Angel Hair Shrimp Liabonettia? was wonderful. The prices are very reasonable and the service is great. The Italian bread is like dining in Italy. The wine selection is tasteful. You must dine there with your better half. The atmosphere is romantic as well as ambient. The service is good. The bar tender makes great drinks, and he is not light handed at that! The food is hot, and the Cosmopolitan are out of this world. Enjoy!!!!

For all of its ambience and charm it's unfortunate that Maggianos falls short in the quality of food. The texture of the gnocchi resemebled that of gummi bears instead of being light and fluffy and the mushroom ravioli looked and tasted like it came out of the supermarket frozen food section. For the prices they charged, I expected more. The salads were ok though.

The food is quite good - with my favorite being the mushroom ravioli. I've eaten in Maggiano's in the Chicago suberbs. It's one of my kids favorite restaurant in the Chicago area. He and his wife take all of their visitors to the area to Maggiano's.
However, on thing is different here and I refuse to visit the restaurant here until management makes some changes - you must walk through the smoking section and wait in the smoking section to be seated. I observed mothers with babies in strollers waiting in all of that smoke. They need to change this especially for us who are allergic to smoke. I take none of my visitors to this restaurant and will not until they make a change to their smoking section.

Maggiano's is a great group restaurant where many people can eat many types of southern Italian (see: red sauce) offerings under the "family style" moniker. However, the discriminating individual foodie would be better off trying one of the smaller, everyday southern Italian joints like Assaggio, Valentino's or Vespa. Maggiano's succeeds in an effort to bring Little Itlay to the country via an upscale chain restaurant (much better than Olive Garden or other chains), but the Mama Leone theme can only carry it so far up the proverbial food chain. On the whole the restaurant is too busy to provide the attentive service necessary to make it attractive to true culinarians, but provides enough energy to entertain a family finishing their day at the mall.

If you are fortunate enough to snag some seats in the bar area while waiting for your table, the wait will go unnoticed. My husband and I went to Maggiano's for our 4th wedding anniversary and had a great time because we weren't in a rush. We had some fabulous mussels and decent wine while we were waiting; I was almost sad to hear our name called. Our waiter was great and the atmosphere was nice. I definitely recommend splitting entrees. . . they don't skimp on food.
