My family and I have been regular weekly customers of Pier 51 Seafod Restaurant for several years. We have always had a good experience there. The food is always well prepared, portions are generous, and the wait staff is very courteous, fast, and professional. The restaurant offers a wide variety salad bar. Their new menu offers large and small portions favoring senior citizens and smaller appetites. The items for children are excellent - especially the spaghetti and the chicken fingers. Our children always look foward to going there. I would recommend Pier 51 to anyone.

Pros: Good food & good service

My family and I have been to this restaraunt several times. And most experiences were okay. It's usually pretty empty inside. The portions for the dinner menu are pretty sizeable. So that's why we got into the habbit of ordering one meal and we just share it. This was never a problem before. But when we recently went back and did the same thing as we have done, we were informed that since we are "sharing" a meal that the salad bar is not available to me. Even though the meal comes with one. And we did come during lunch this time so I understand that the waitress assumed that we wanted the lunch portion since we failed to mention that we wanted the dinner. However when we mentioned that we wanted the dinner portion she said that they would bring out "what would make the difference from the dinner from the lunch". Which was fine also. So we started eating. And when the other portion cam out, it was SMALL. It was not what was missing. As I mentioned we have been there several times and ordered the same thing over and over again. So we are both familiar with what it should be. We were shorted. We didnt get everything we were supposed to. And as we were paying of course we were asked by the girl at the register how it was. And I expressed that before I was able to get the salad bar and was never penalized for eating off my husbands dish. She said that they have always had that policy that the salad bar is not included when a dish is shared. Well let me just say that, this girl that just told me this was the same girl that told me I could have the salad bar before. Again, let me express....SEVERAL TIMES.

Let me just start by saying that my family and I have been here a few times. But it was never a favorite, but concvenient if we are in the area. My husband and I have always shared the dinner portion of the Fried Seafood Platter since I can never finish my own. And this had never been a problem before and we were even offered the salad bar that comes with it. I understand that we came during lunch. So I understand that she thought we wanted the lunch portion. So when my husband and I asked for the dinner portion we were shorted. And not to mention I was not allowed to have the salad bar because we were "sharing" our meal. And to end it let me just say to the girl that rang us up and asked me how things were, you were the one that ALWAYS served us before and YOU were the one that let me have the salad bar EVERYTIME. We will be taking our money to Captain Steves from now even if it os further.

I have just been forced to experience an achievement of excessive ignorance. My wife and I went into Pier 51 in Pineville, NC to get a quick bite to eat after some shopping. This is a seafood restaurant in a strip mall over by Burlington Coat Factory. I still eat seafood sometimes but my wife has been a vegetarian her entire life. Seeing how there was nothing on the menu that didn't have meat (other than the salad bar), she decided to order the Grilled Cheese sandwich from the kids menu. Usually this is no problem but not today.

The waitress looks at us and says "No, that is for kids but let me check with the manager". She goes back in the kitchen then returns and says "No, you can't order a grilled cheese. That is for children". This is quickly becoming a Larry David moment as I ask, "Why? What's the difference? Is there something in this selection that is harmful to adults but not children? Just pretend she's a kid and bring the sandwich." I must point out that this particular selection of two pieces of bread and a piece of cheese is already $4.95 which must have a profit margin of something like 5,000%. We were not upset, just blown away by the extreme absurdity of this situation.

Though I am shocked by the stench of the horrible business acumen of this 'manager', I offer to pay extra for the grilled cheese. Extra! The thing is already outrageously overpriced! Again, the waitress looks at us with a straight face and says "No, that is only for kids". Now, I'm looking around waiting for Peter Funt to pop out and say "Smile, You're on Candid Camera" but he never does! I should also mention the fact that I was ordering something expensive so how they choose to adhere to such a ridiculous policy is beyond me.

Giving up, she asked for spaghetti with no meat in the sauce. The waitress again has to check with the 'manager'. She returns and says we can only order the adult spaghetti which has meat and denied us the meat-free spaghetti which was available (only for kids).

We left in amazement and went to Pike's where she ordered from the kids menu... no problems.

So... Einstein manager over at Pier 51, Pike's got my $40, not you, because you are an idiot. I might add Pike's was packed with a 20 minute wait while Pier 51 had 3 customers.

Pros: Don't know, didn't get to eat

Cons: Dumb business practices

I was very pleasantly surprised by the food at Pier 51. My child also loved it! The service was great, the sweet tea superb, and the bill was very reasonable. I forget it's there, but I will definitely go there again for lunch when I'm in the area.

I've met friends and family members at Pier 51 for dinner before and have always had a good experience. They're great with larger parties, and always take their time with us. Food is very tasty and reasonably priced.
