I do so love the zoo. We get annual passes and go as much as we can. It's hard to pull me away from the polar bear exhibit. Heck it's hard to pull me away from most of the exhibits. For the animals, I would give this zoo a perfect score, but, the prices of the food and drinks brings that down. Our kids are older and aren't ruled by the "I wants" but, I can't imagine taking 3 young children there and paying for food and drinks for them all. We sure wouldn't be going nearly as often as we do if we had that to contend with. A positive on that, though, there's a picnic area outside the zoo entrance and you can bring a cooler of food and eat there, you just can't bring a cooler into the park itself. Be careful, when we were there this summer, we had the experience of seeing a rather long snake on OUR side of the fence at the rhino exhibit. That was a little more heart stopping than I needed that day.

This zoo is awesome. There are 2 parts to it - North America and Africa. Both are full of great exhibits and beautiful animals. The zoo is open almost year-round and has a tram that can take you from one side to the other. In North America, there is a great playground which can give the adults a nice break while the kids play.

The NC Zoo in Asheboro is a wonderful treat for people of all ages. There are animals from all different countries to be seen! The zoo is kept very clean, and is well laid out. They offer maps and shuttles to help your visit be more organized.
There is an amazing section of the zoo that is just a wide open plain....acres and acres of land, with large animals living so contently in their natural habitat. Elephants and Giraffes (among others) can be seen here. It's really a beautiful sight.

I have to say - the zoo is FULL of hills, so the kids will get tired of walking, and parents will get tired pushing strollers/carrying children. Expect to take breaks when planning your day.
