Beware of this studio. I wish we had never set foot in Dance Productions. They like to pretend that they "care" about all of their students, but I know for certain they do not. My daughter worked so hard, but was treated like she didn't

We left our studio to join the competition team at dance productions and I fear we've made a huge mistake. I can easily say this is the most unorganized and chaotic studio we've ever been to. And the favoritism goes far beyond anything

We moved our daughter from another studio near Huntersville. From the moment she arrived, she was accepted into the studio with open arms.

I was a dance parent at DP for many years and knew families that still had students there as of two years ago. I was kind of curious to see if things have changed and they still appear to be the same. There still appears to be management

This studio plays obvious favorites. The same girls are front and center of every dance. They are the only ones doing tricks and they do the same ones in every dance. While they are amazing dancers and this studio does a great job or training them it gets old really fast to those not the chosen few.

Dance Productions management needs improvement . As much as I would like to say only good things about this studio in which my child has been attending over four years, this studio is slowly deteriorating due to the lack of communication and bad management. My daughter enjoys going there; however the unorganization of this studio is driving me crazy as a parent. Costumes are given at the very last minute and things are not communicated to parents in a organized manner or at the last minute. The director intentions may be good and when speaking with her she appears to be very concerned about addressing issues; however she does not follow through. This studio could truly be one of the best if there was better management. Competition students ARE the priority and I feel as though I can say that as a parent who child has competed. I do want this studio to succeed and do think that DP have outstanding dancers; however things need to be a little bit more orginized and all the focus should not be on competition students. Each student at DP deserves the same opportunity for growth.

I am shocked to see negative reviews.I have nothing but GREAT things to say about Dance Productions. I can only assume the complaining parents are the parents that drop the kids at the door and are not involved with there childrens dance education. If they were to come in and take the time to see what goes on they would know this is a top quality dance studio. Our daughter has danced at other studios so I can tell you with confidence this by far is 1 of the best studio in the charlotte area. The kids are good dancers because they have good teachers who work for an outstanding owner. Why woudl so many parent share in such great fellowship at every competition? I could only guess that the folks that made the negative comments are parents that are envious of the DP staff the tallent of the kids and the togetherness of the families. I would say if you wnat your child to learn Excellent technique and great coreograpy come check out DP. They will welcome you and your child with open arms.

It is sad to see angry people write negative comments about a place where children love to come dance and hang out with other dancers they consider family. I hope that anyone considering any studio for their child would find out for themselves what a studio has to offer. My child has been with DP for 7 years and she is very happy there. The parents are amazing, we have so much fun. Real friendships have developed at this studio for the dancers and their families and this is a testiment to how welcome you feel when you are there. There is no question that I feel truly blessed to be part of such a wonderful family!

All of these negative reviews are on here for a reason..it's a shame when it's a business centered around children but what everyone has been saying is true. No one can deny Dance Productions produces good dancers, you can look up results and see that. But bottom line, the kids just aren't nice competitors. It goes beyond bad backstage manners--these kids will outright sabotage other studios' routines while they're on stage. It's not just something my child's studio experienced, ask parents from any studio in Charlotte and they will tell you the same thing. Tons of horror stories. The owner is downright malicious, will do whatever it takes to get what she wants. There are obvious "favorites"-can't miss them, they are in at least 20 routines. Bottom line--there are too many other great studios in the area that promote warm, friendly, family-oriented atmospheres. Choose from those and leave this one off your list.

This dance studio is pretty much like the others as far as instruction and price. I would still recommend this company to others from what I have seen about them.

First let me start off by saying Dance Productions is not all that bad but its not that great either. This year is very unorganized. The comments about them showing favortism is TRUE. I feel like i pay a lot of money a month for my child totake multiple classes for nothin..its like if your not in competition..you dont exist. I just hope this recital turns out to be worth all this money parents are spending. a lot of parents complain about the center but no one ever speaks up. The facility bathrooms are filthy. Dance productions has a lot of potential. i just wish they would treat ALL parents and students equally. I do love Ms Cheryl she is definitely a sweet girl!!!

As a past parent of a dancer at Dance Productions I can tell you that it is as several of these people have said. Lori seems to be in it strictly for the money. They do well in competition and several of the teachers are great, I think that the quality of the coreography has suffered since Ed Phelan has left. The recitals are not nearly as nice. After some problems with the studio I have now taken my child to Rhythm Dance in Matthews and can say that my girl is now really happy. Such a change in attitude. The best thing about Dance productions was Sabrina.

Dance Productions is the best dance studio in the Charlotte area. The staff is wonderful, and my kids love it. The studio does very well at competitions and has some of the best dancers in the area. The building is nice and has raised dance floors to prevent injury. The recitals are well done and are family friendly.

Some of the best teachers around although I will admit that they are focused on competition. Their recitals are among the best I've ever witnessed. The themes are very clever and well produced. It's a true shame that Ed is no longer with them because I believe he was the creative force behind much of this. Overall they have excellent teachers and excellent students.
On the other hand the management is horrible. (LO)
Unorganized and very out of touch and out of date.
Just focused on getting her money.

Just a few more comments about recent reviews on this site. First and foremost I know the owner both as a business woman and a personal friend and those who say she is in it for the money are flat out wrong. I see what she goes through and the love she has for the dancers at the studio and without fail she has more passion in her little finger than most do in their whole body. Second in response to an individual making the studio what it is today. Folks dancers make the studio and while the teachers have a large impact the dancers go out at each competition and show others what our studio is about. Our success is the direct reflection of many but no one person makes a studio. The studio was there (and successful) before he got there and will be there long after and I have no doubt continue to be a great place for guys and girls to grow-up with good values and great teachers!

I AM A DANCE TEACHER AND HAVE BEEN TO MANY COMPETITIONS OVER THE LAST 6 YEARS AND WHILE THEY ARE EXCELLENT DANCERS I HAVE NEVER COME ACROSS SUCH RUDE CHILDREN AND TEACHERS IN MY LIFE THEN FROM DANCE PRODUCTION STUDIO. ITS A GOOD THING THEY ARE NOT JUDGED ON BEHAVIOR BACKSTAGE! THEY MIGHT NEED A CLASS IT MANNERS AND HOW TO BE
GOOD SPORTS ALONG WITH THEIR DANCE TRAINING...

I was a dance parent at DP for many years. The studio is located in a nice building with proper dance floors which prevent children from getting hurt. The instruction in all areas of dance are pretty good with the exception of the ballet program the years I was at DP. The soloists of the studio at that time were encouraged to take outside ballet classes. I have been informed by parent currently at DP that new teacher has improved the ballet program. Regarding Ed Phelan, he was a very good choreographer but not a great teacher. He was wonderful to your child if they were one of the "stars" of the studio. If not, he barely would recognize your child. The studio is only a "money pit" if your child is part of the competion team. They do have numerous fund raisers for parents to help pay competion costs. Yearly recital is at Ovens and it is a "family friendly" show. Overall, a good competiton studio which means dancers are taught to dance a 3 minute routine, not how to perform.

Let me start by saying: this is a first hand account from a student who danced at this studio.
Whoever is writing these reviews is sadly mistaken, Ed completely built the dance productions competition team. Ed no longer works with dance productions which is a huge loss for them. He is one of the most talented teachers on the east coast and will have no trouble finding a new studio. There are 2 real problems at this studio first, the Director, is only out for one thing.. MONEY. The second problem is the students and parents on the team, they all have nasty attitudes which is shown where ever they make an appearance. (at a competition) Don't let their fake "family friendly show" mislead you, the studio is a money trap and negative environment.

Dance Productions disgraced itself at competion a couple of weeks ago when Mr. Ed Phelan charged the stage and started cursing because of technical problems with competion dance. Mr. Phelan's beligerant conduct has been tolerated for years which has put a black eye on a good competition studio. Dance Productions produces talented competion dancers who know dance tricks but little else about dance. . Their technique needs improvement which is why most top students go outside the studio for ballet/pointe etc. Dance Productions has programs for dancers of all ages but will try to get as many dancers involved in competition team because that is where the money is for this studio. They do have 2 very nice studios's and most teachers are very sweet and experieced.(Mr. Phelan is the exception) They have a yearly recital at Ovens and it is very well done and a little different from the average studio. Their costumes and dances are age appropiate which is a plus. Overall, a good studio but Mr. Phelan brings the rating down a notch.

I was completely shocked to read these reviews when I was looking for the website for my daughters dance studio! My oldest daughter is in her third year at DP, she just turned 6, my youngest is 2 and just started. Never, have I witnessed anything but positive feedback at all times from the staff. The are absoultely caring, professional and get to know each and every single student and their family. They stepped in and helped me when they saw that I was struggling with a problem. You will never hear an instructor yell at a student, that would never be tolerated by any member of DP. There is a very good reason why, if you came to a recital that DP put on the dancers perform and it isn't because the instructors are waiting backstage with a whip. The children love their teachers and they are taught throughout the year with care and they get onstage and want to perform. And at the end of every single performance we applaud, when the instructors are introduced we applaud also and the same thing happens when awards are given out. To say that they don't even want to get up to accept the award is hilarious to me. Jealousy is a bitter pill to have to swallow, it's unfortunate that every dance studio isn't run with the same standards as DP, but to try to make them out to be bitter, evil, lazy and self rightous is just unfortunate and doesn't say very much to your character.

Great Studio! Have Only been with this studio for a short time ,but involved with dance for 13 years.
My children are extremely happy. They are learning and having fun at the same time. They enjoy the other young people in the program as well. We are involved with the competition team and it has been an easy transition for them. The instructors are geniune and are also very informative dance educators. Creativity is not a problem at this studio and their dances prove it. Just got back from Las Vegas for Nationals and had a wonderful experience. Did well and represented Charlotte with pride.
I think the person that wrote the review earlier must of been in a dream because we were in Las Vegas doing West Coast Nationals not East Coast Nationals. It is sad to be negative about any studio and not to get the right one is even worse.
My advice take that energy and put it into the art you have chosen DANCE!

I am so sorry that people are playing such games with the children at Dance Productions. They are fantastic young people, that work hard, play fair and dedicated to thier dance education. It is a shame that people enjoy saying such untrue things about them online. All you have to do is visit the studio and in an instant your mind would be changed. I think people need to get away from the computer and jump on the dance floor, it is healthy!!! Use your time in a positive manner!
The Dance Productions Family is having a wonderful season! Positive Attitudes!!! Lots of Fun!!! If you have any questions, call the studio and give us your name and we will be happy to speak iwth you 704 598-8288 or better yet, stop in person and we will give you a tour!!!

Dance productions is a very talented studio. I love watching their routines but I have also observed something else about this studio. They have absolutely horrible attitudes. The kids have learned from the staff to expect nothing but 1st overalls. They expect to win and are not excited at all when they do. I have witnessed them win top studio and not even get up to get the award and when asked to come get it a few of them went up to get it and just stood there. This past weekend I saw them at another competition where my studio beat them more than a few times. They definately were not happy about it at all. There main competition teacher refused to watch there dances by the last day of competition and didn't even show up to awards. People at DP that are friends with people at my studio wouldn't talk to us. I have never seen anyone ask so immature as this studio did. These are just a few of the things I witnessed. I think it is horrible that the kids learned this behavior from the studio it is observable from the teachers and youngest kids. The attitudes I saw were completely ridiculous and I would be ashamed if that were my studio and teachers.

People at DP that are friends with people at my studio wouldn't talk to us. I have never seen anyone ask so immature as this studio did. These are just a few of the things I witnessed. I think it is horrible that the kids learned this behavior from the studio it is observable from the teachers and youngest kids. The attitudes I saw were completely ridiculous and I would be ashamed if that were my studio and teachers.

.

Dance Productions is a decent but very typical competition dance studio. If you want your child to learn how to dance to 3 minute numbers and do "tricks", then it is fine. If you want your child to learn how to dance and perform, take them elsewhere so they can learn technique. If your child is interested in dancing in college, get them out of a "competiiton" studio like Dance Productions when they enter HS.

Dance Productions has a "star" system and you would be foolish not to be aware of it. Check out the dancers in the front of all the competion numbers, they are the same dancers for the most part. If your child is not a "star", they will be ignored. Dance Productions has been strong in tap, jazz and lyrical for years but it's weakness is ballet which is very important. Dance Productions does not offer "Modern" classes and this is essential if your child wants to continue dancing after HS.

Regarding some of these reviews, quite a few sound like they are "paid" advertisements. The truth is somewher in the middle. Dance Productions does have some good and friendly teachers. The studio is pretty nice and they do have "safe" floors. Their recital is a bit different from other studios and they should get a little credit for doing something different . On the down side, management has always been disorganized. They will try and charge you for every little thing possible and check your "competition" statement like a "hawk".
