Waiting over anSeriously understaffed / mismanaged hour to see a doctor is UNACCEPTABLE, then once you are in the room you have to WAIT 20 more minutes to be seen.

The staff is kind, knowledgeable, and understanding. Care (when given) is exceptional

Seriously understaffed/mismanaged

I would like to say thank you to the staff of this place. I had a great Dane that lived 12 years and a cat that lived 24 years. If it wasn't for the great care and hard work from them this would not be possible. I have 2 great Danes now that are 2 years old and are in perfect help. They know animals and know how to take care of them. Perfect place and always recommend them to anyone. Once again thank you for all the hard work and caring for my children as they are the only children I have.

I just moved to the area and I was looking for a vet for my dog. We just added a new dog to our family we have been to Southern Oaks 3 times in the past two months. The staff is very friendly front desk and in the exam rooms, I never had to wait long at all. I would not return if waits were long since I am always accompanied by my two year old. They have a very kid friendly play area in the waiting area. I will always return here.

Recently I boarded my four dogs at Southern Oaks Animal Hospital. I do not usually board my dogs, so I was very nervous about boarding them on Labor Day Weekend. My dogs were quite a handful, they were excited, and nervous about their arrival. The staff was very pleasant. The ladies were very patient with me, and were very nice. I think they noticed my nervousness about leaving my dogs. When the other ladies came to get my dogs, they were very sweet, even though my dogs were still quite a handful. I would highly recommend boarding my beloved babies there again if need be. Because when I picked them up, they were of course excited to go home, and they were clean and cared for. So I worried needlessly on my mini vacation. I will be baking a treat for the entire staff from my family to show my appreciation. Thank you all again.

We became patients of Southern Oaks when we adopted a dog who was already seen there. Then we got Mojo from a couple of guys out in the country. No papers, no shots. I bought his first round of shots from a seed store and gave them to him myself.

He woke up one morning and wouldn't eat. By noon he was listless and wouldn't even drink. I took him in to Southern Oaks, they agreed over the phone to let me post date a check for the emergency appointment.

Turns out he had parvo. He was hours from death. I was made to feel like an irresponsible pet owner for attempting to give him shots myself. I did not have the money for his emergency treatment, which was estimated at a few hundred dollars. I had to borrow from a relative in order to get him admitted as they wouldn't start treatment without payment up front.

Once he was admitted, poor Mojo was literally brought back from the brink of death. He was cared for by truly loving Doctors and staff. He came home a day earlier than anticipated (and perhaps earlier than he should). It was Friday, and once I got him home and the office was closed I had no one to turn to when he still wasn't better.

We set up "doggie ICU" at home. Every half hour I took a medicine dropper and shoved Gatorade down his throat. I force fed him a vitamin gel. I cooked and mushed up chicken and rice and forced him to eat that. And he made it.

Yes the staff up front can be a little harried and the wait is longer than I'd like. But Mojo wouldn't be alive if they hadn't been compassionate enough to see him on a postdated check. And I cannot fault the care he got while there. Overall I'm VERY happy with them.

Great Vet, Dr. Dean. Coming here since 1987 and trust him with my dogs lives. The front desk and check out service leaves a lot to be desired. The wait is extremely long to check in and even longer to check out. The way the office runs needs a complete overhaul. Maybe, like medical offices, they hand you your chart and have a person dedicated to check out. Also, have one person dedicated to answering the phones and questions instead of having to wait in line for the next available staff, who, more often than not, are having a gab fest with co-workers.

Over the past sixteen years, I have spent thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours waiting at Southern Oaks Animal Hospital. My experiences have always been that Dr. Dean and all of the veterinarians are knowledgeable, caring, and compassionate. However, for the past several years, I have noticed a decline in customer service. It is extremely frustrating to make an appointment several weeks in advance and then have to wait forty-five minutes to an hour before being moved to an examining room, another fifteen minutes to see a doctor, and then, another forty-five minutes to an hour to check out. This has been the norm for far too long. It has gotten to the point where I deeply dread having to take my pets there. As much as I adore and trust Dr. Dean and all of the veterinarians, I will have to search for another facility unless changes soon take place.

Southern Oaks Animal Hospital is the Best in the Southeastern United States

Over the Years Southern Oaks Animal hospital has Changed.
Change is not always Good but the Changes we have experienced at Southern Oaks have all been for the benefit of our Animals Dr's Dean and Hicks have been the core of the SOAH they are Great Vet's they have always been more than thorough with all of our animals and have always been considerate of what we need to do and can afford for our Dogs, Cat and Horses.
Dr Dean is the absolute best surgeon we have ever had the pleasure of having to do surgery on several of our animals.
We have always ask Dr Dean what he would do if it were his pet. Dr has always been genuinely considerate of the needs of our animals and often times he has made suggestions after we ask that most Vet's would not have even mentioned. Because we are no longer in the Fayetville area but we continue to mke the trek to SOAH 4 hours away to get the type of Care and diagnosis the we have only recieved form Dr Dean and the staff at SOAH.
We thank you for all you Do. Keep up the Good Work.

The sign of a Good business is if the waiting room is full. So without a doubt The Folks at SOAH are doing a Great Job !
I would be a little afraid to go into any medical office and there be no waiting.

I used to love going to Southern Oaks. But recently that has changed. I have 2 kittens that were sick, and the vet really dropped the ball this time. The vet did a quick exam, ran a fecal on one kitten, and found that he had bacteria in his feces. We were given medicine for that, but no other tests were ran. The medicine not only didn't help, the kittens got worse. I ended up taking the kittens to another vet clinic (North Star) where both kittens were admitted and hospitalized for 3 days and cost me $768! If the vet at Southern Oaks had ran bloodwork they would have seen an infection beginning, but they didn't.

There's too much chaos going on at Southern Oaks lately, it seems that one hand doesn't know what the other is doing. And it's difficult to see one vet continuously, we're often at the mercy of whomever is on duty.

Southern Oaks wasn't always like this, in the past I've had wonderful experiences there, but no more. My pets mean enough to me to ensure they get the care they need and desire, so I now take my pets to what I consider to be a much better clinic.

I have great experiences for Southern Oaks...i have 2 dogs that are pateints their a small rat terrier and alarge pit/mix. They are all very caring people and genuinely care for your pets. And they ARE NOT the only Pet for miles.(Check the yellow pages bittersweet. I have been takin my pets there for about 10 years and i've NEVER had a problem with rudeness, and no i don't know any of them outside of the practice. They get everybody in and out as quickly as possible and i've never had to 'wait forever' for the records to make it back up front from check out. Also they offer more reasonable prices for treatments/checkups/vaccines/ and preventative meds. Also, i had a recent problem that a neighbor moved and abandoned three 6-8 week old kittens: i called up and was told they could come and stay there to be adopted out at no charge, though i did bring food and litter to help with the upkeep though i was told it wasn't required ( my hubby is allergic to cats is why we couldnt keep them ) I WOULD/AND HAVE RECOMMENDED THIS PRACTICE TO EVERYONE I KNOW WITH PETS!!

In response to Petmeds by Mr. Joe H--Yes it is legal for the animal hospital to refuse your order..I dont know if you are aware of this but if you purchase heartworm medication from a LICENSED animal Hospital and your pet gets heartworms(and you have stayed current on heartworm testing) the manufacturer's will pay for heartworm treatment for your pet...BUT if you purchase it from an online company...it is NOT backed or warranteed thru the manufacturer any longer...these online companies do not always purchase these meds from the actual companies that you think they are coming from...U can call the number on the back of your Heartgard box to verify this.......NEVER give your pet medication if you are not 100% sure of where it came from.....people's animals have died from the owners buying meds on 1-800-PetMeds(and otherer online companies) because they were not made from the actual company...just placed and sealed in the boxes. I know this because I have worked for animal hospitals for several years and its a devastating thing to have to tell an owner that the meds THEY purchased ONLINE are what killed their animal.

In response to the last review left, it seems as though it was a vicious attack on the sweet girls up front. As far ass condescending and rude I have NEVER had that experience with Southern Oaks. I have used this vet for quite sometime now (12 years) and have had to wait my fair share of time for a room or to check out, but shouldn't that say something, that its such a busy place, because they OBVIOUSLY are doing something right that SOO many people come there?
I would not go anywhere else for my pets(my babies) and have been courteously helped numerous times by the ladies up front with no attitude, rudeness or "know it all" attitude.

I applaud the entire staff of Southern Oaks for their outstanding job with pets and their owners.

Shame on you for posting such an outrageous and untrue review!

We have been with Dr.Dean before he opened this office. We have seen some good things and bad things over the years.I no longer bring my animals there for important issues because the place has just become a symptom of an over populated town ..Mistakes happen and its always the other persons fault, and they are just too busy. Its also like two different places when you go there, the women up front and i don't mean (all)of them but the majority are VERY rude and condescending, and think they know everything. You will wait for ever to go back to a room and you will wait for ever for your records to check out.I have been over charged by a couple women there on purpose and told by people in the back, that she was doing that to us.YES!!!Now the back-I cant say enough nice things about the back crew, vets -nurses -techs kennel crew. They are awesome.Great people and Dr.Dean is a great guy,he has worked hard and he truly loves animals. They are always helpful ,call when they say they will and have just went above and beyond when it came to emergency situations. With that said,i have had a few incident in the past few years that are not okay anymore and I just cant see any animal in pain because of people not paying attention to what they are doing.Pretty serious stuff .so we are still faithful to the place, but maybe they will clean up some areas or take in fewer clients to be able to give more time to each animal as needed.I have found another wonderful Vet who I take for serious things, they are expensive I must admit and sometimes I cant always afford there care, but they remember my animals by name when i walk in.Try that at Southern Oaks lol

In response to the Vicious Attack...LOLOLSweet girls up front??? Common, that's a stretch if I've ever heard one!!You must be related to someone or work there. Why only 4 starts for such a fantastic Vet??I'm glad all your experiences have been magical at Southern Oaks, but i have no reason to lie,nor do the other people who left comments about the rude girls up front. It is what it is,sometimes people pick and choose what they want to read(Theresa H.) and then assume they know situations.Just because your satisfied, doesn't mean the rest of the world is.About them "being busy ,must mean they are doing something right".Umm,They are the only Vet for MILES!! I have to drive a ways to get to the other office's.Plus if your re-read review it indicates that the back is suffering too and making major mistakes, hence the reason I don't bring my animal there for serious attention anymore.Sometimes if you thoroughly read things,it doesn't look as one sided as first thought!!!!

I'd been a customer of Southern Oaks and moved to NY. Upon my return, I used another vet - prices were higher, expensive but seemingly unnecessary testing was often suggested and then they suddenly refused to board my dogs after having boarded them for two or three years. Dr. Dean and the staff at Southern Oaks boarded my dogs at, literally, the last moment as I was going home for a death in my family. I've never had any complaints about my dogs care...vets are caring, judicious in testing and not offering procedures and tests unless they are really needed. I'm on a small income and their pricing is reasonable and they have always worked with me regarding payments. The staff has always been cordial to me. They are a very busy clinic, and sometimes the wait can be lengthy, but it is worth it in the long run!!!

...until my dog broke out with mange. My dog has been there three times so far with breakouts, and each time she is given the same treatment. And if you need a refill on the meds prescribed, you have to bring the dog in to be scraped (for mites) and examined again. That's another $130 bill when we all know what she has and what she needs. Additionally, when I first started taking my dog, they mixed my records up with someone else's, claimed I had an outstanding bill, and to not ever bring my dog up there again. I got that straightened out but the next time I called, the records were still screwed up and I had to explain the situation. And yes, some of the people at the desk are snotty!

My first time at Southern Oaks was last month because I had an emergency with my dog. My regular vet would not see me because I didn't have any money and I called about 4 other vets and none would see me. I called Southern Oaks and talked to the office manager Nickey, she told me about Care Credit and helped me apply. I was able to get treatment and my baby is fine now but if it was not for them he would be dead now. I will never go to another vet. They care about pets and I had a shoulder to lean on in Nickey and the other staff. I am a southern oaks mom for life!

I have been taking my pets to Southern Oaks for years and they have always been great. When my cat was diagnosed with diabetes, Dr. Duff was supportive and informative through the entire ordeal. She showed great love and concern for our pet as if it was her own. When he became sick again, and it was decided it was best to let him pass on, she walked us through then process and mourned with us as out beloved friend died. She is a great credit to the hospital and to her animal patients.

As a military wife, we are frequently moving around and as a result have had to constantly change veterinarians. I've been to many vet hospitals in the past and by far Southern Oaks is my top pick. The staff is courteous and efficient and the Dr.s are great. Dr. Duff saw my dog last visit and was very friendly, informative and my dog loved her! I will be scheduling all my visits at Southern Oaks from now on.

I have been a client at Southern Oaks for about one year now, I have been very happy with the care my dog and I have received each time we go in. The employees are nice and friendly to me every time and the doctors really care about my dog. I would not consider going any place else.

My cat has diabetes and I have been going to a local vet in Fayetteville for some time now and I had a bad experience with a really rude receptionist, not the first this has happened with the people at the desk. My friend recommended Southern Oaks because she goes there, I found the staff caring and friendly and the doctor really was helpful in explaining my cats condition so that I understood it a little better. I was very pleased with the place and have found a new doctor that is nice.

I had taken my dog here and had some problems. Fair enough. I wanted my dog's record so I could take my dog somewhere else. I asked for it in person, and it was not given to me, but I was told it would arrive in the mail soon. Then I was sent a letter stating that my consent was needed... even though they didn't ask me for it in person. The consent form wasn't even included in the envelope like they said it would be. So now I have to go BACK to the vet clinic and ask for it again. I am trying to board my dog somewhere else and am dependent on getting my hands on a record that won't be released. Unprofessional and poor customer service.

We recently moved to the area, my German Shephard came down sick and called to get her in. They were quick to say bring her in. Once I got there, I had to wait, which was ok since it was a walk in. But once we got to the back, they started piling the bills up. $75.00 for blood test. $32.00 for an exam and the vet never even touched my dog except to walk her to x-ray which was another $65.00. Then they wanted to cut her open for another $300 just to see if there was anything.. We said no. But the bill came out to $185.00 with no diagnosis. NOTHING. So my dog is still sick and I am broke and in my eye's they aren't a very good vet. practice. Very upset.

I usually get my dogs heart worm medication from Southern Oaks Animal Hospital in Hope Mills NC. My dog has been seen there several times. Recently I placed an order for the same heart worm medication online with 1800petmeds.com. I understand that this is a very reputable website. Southern Oaks Animal Hospital refused to approve my order. They told me I could only buy my pet med's from them. Southern Oaks Animal Hospital in Hope Mills NC charges more than double for the same medication. Is their practice legal?

I experienced LONG wait times from when I checked in until I was actually seen, and again when it was time to pay. I thought the staff was snotty and the prices really expensive. In addition, the vets will not give you a prescription for Petmeds. I was told they don't work with Petmeds, obviously it would undercut their profits.
Several times that I bought flea and heartworm meds there, they would ring me up, then go get the meds only to discover that they were sold out, telling me to stop back later. I don't appreciate this lackluster business approach. Not my kind of place.

I agree that the price is reasonable and the waiting room is nice with activities for kids, which is convenient when trying to wrestle a large dog and 3 year old! However, we've had several recent experiences with rude reception staff. I went by to inquire about some ear cleaning solution that normally only vets will sell. The office was busy and I waited in line to inquire about it. They did not have it but the woman in the front acted like she was put out to have to go check, and even rolled her eyes when I said I wasn't interested in the brands they did have. Then, just today I called to find out when they closed, and after telling me the abrupt and rude receptionist answering the phone hung up on me! There have also been a couple of other times I called and the staff were rude. I am quite disappointed, because I was otherwise happy with them. I hope the doctors know this behavior is bad for business!

I just wanted to say that Southern Oaks Animal Hospital is a wonderful place to take your animals, they will receive the best care and the staff is compassionate and understanding. I had a cat that I had had for 16 years and she was my "baby", I lost her three weeks ago but not before Dr. Hicks did everything she could do to save her, she died of heart disease. I feel as though Dr. Hicks took care of my "baby" as if it had been her own and I am very grateful for her knowledge and love of animals. I will be using Southern Oaks from here on for all my animal needs. I would recommend Southern Oaks to anyone looking for quality animal health care.

Thank goodness we chose Southern Oaks. Dr. Dean and his staff did a wonderful job; they are extremely knowledgeable. They all had genuine concern and compassion for my pet. It's an outstanding veterinary hospital and we will continue to be a patron.

Southern Oaks has extremely caring staff that knows your pet by their name, and not just by animal. The workers care about the animals and have a good heart. I took my cat there for a bath and a dip, and I was impressed with their prices. They were so reasonable, and she looked great. I could tell by the other people there with their sick pets, that they had received excellent care also.

Southern Oaks is the cleanest animal vet I have been in. It is a very professional business. My dog was in the room within 4 minutes of our arrival. All of my questions were answered before any procedures were done. The building is large and the rooms decorated and smell wonderful! The lobby has an aquarium and toys for kids to play with. You can also put info on their bulletin board with permission!

PROS:
CONS: hard to get in and out of parking lot, not many marked spots to park
