I thought Riverwood would be a great place to live and raise kids. I have lived here for 2 years know and have yet to really meet those nice neighbors that appeared during the house viewings. It seemed like a very nice community at first; however once we moved in people in the neighborhood began to change. People here love to gossip a LOT. You will also notice right away that the people living here have clicks and if you dont know someone here already it is very hard to fit in.
HOA has no concern for you or the Community. They make a LOT of empty promises, and are always ready to right you a fine.
The First thing you can look into, in order to create your on view point, would be to see the " playground" that Riverwood has and expects your kids to play on. You will notice how it isnt shown on any web pages where they are selling a house. Thats because it shows the quality of care and work they put (dont put) into the community. You can find this playground on McCarthy Drive behind the doctors office, and can look and apply your own knowledge for safety. Know that this playground is how they treat just about everything in this neighborhood. It is not even usable for kids. You will notice right away that the wood is rotted so bad you can sit on the benches because there are such massive rotted holes in the, there are nails poking out on it in accessible places to children. You can guaranty splinters in your kids hands just about every time you let them play on it. The worst part is that the HOA requires you to jump through loopholes if you want to ever get one in your own backyard. They want you to plot out on a map the exact location, and demotion of any equipment you want to put up. (If you have a fence it does not mater because they just walk up and look into your backyard at any given time.) After all that you still have to wait for them to come out and approve or deny you. Which can take months sometimes. The ironic thing is your playground (and everything else) has to meet high standards, which is ironic because Riverwood does not meet even basic safety standards for their playground equipment. Another thing to consider before you move in is that here is only one main entrance and one side exit; Which you should consider driving though during work and school hours. It is a very dangerous intersection to make left and turns or goes just across the street during those hours due to the curved road on Pritchard/Smithfield Rd, which cars seem to carelessly fly around. Leaving you no time to make adjustment. Overs all Riverwood is a safe place to live but for the price you pay for you Athletic membership they have nothing outside a pool and Gym for athletics. Like no basketball hoops, Tennis ball courts, for teens to stay occupied with their free time so unless they have a car there is nowhere for teens to burn their energy and free time.

Great fitness center for the whole family. They have a great indoor pool and then for the summer a two excellent outdoor pools. The equipment is up to date and you can always get on a machine and go to work. The daycare is super sweet and helpful. They are constantly having classes for everyone. My children love the tiny tots program for them to workout. On Monday's they have a program for children in school to work out and my daughter really does enjoy it.

I highly recommend the Riverwood Athletic Club....we do not live in the Riverwood community but were able to join the club membership. We have been members for three years and are very happy with how clean the fitness centers are...there has never been a wait to use a cardio machine. The pools offer something for everyone....adult water slides, a lazy river, a large child playground, and a shaded baby pool. We find the cost of membership well worth it!

Riverwood Athletic Club is a community located in Clayton, NC. Within the community, there is a gym, indoor and outdoor pool, nearby golf course. The neighborhood itself has condos, town-homes, single-family homes and custom built homes ranging in price from the 100's to the 500's in price.
It's a wonderful, family-friendly neighborhood to live in!
There are trails that encircle the neighborhood which make for great walking or running.
The gym offers weights, treadmills, ellipticals and various aerobics classes.
I recommend checking out this great community!

I have lived in riverwood for over two years and have been very pleased overall. The location is great and provides easy access to Raleigh & I-540, Clayton, Knightdale, etc. Yes-it is quite crowded in Riverwood but overall the neighbors are great. I am actually familiar with the family and their firepit but it hasn't been a problem for several months now. The health clup has a wide variety of equipment but the locker rooms are not always kept as clean as they could be. The Pool is also crowded on certain nights during the swim season but the outdoor pool is a great asset during the summer months.

Overall the neighborhood is very clean and I think it is a great setting for starter families and anyone else that loves kids.

Riverwood is a great neighborhood to live in especially if you have children! I walk my son to school everyday and love my neighbors. The pool does get crowded during the summer but we have 3 additional pools with our membership that we can go to so if one is crowded we just run down the road. My son also plays t-ball in the neighborhood and my oldest daughter has dance, having activities in the neighborhood has really cut down my "after school activities" driving time.

Pros: All inclusive package: golf membership, indoor and outdoor pools, walking trails, athletic club membership

Cons: Pools are busy in the summer and Athletic Club is packed after Jan. 1 for a few weeks.

.

Riverwood is not a great place to live and the same goes for the athletic club. The HOA does not enforce the rules and we had to live with some of the worst neighbors. Rowdy and always burning a fire pit, the HOA was not helpful in our quest to alleviate their behavior. Secondly, the athletic club is ALWAYS busy so you can't ever enjoy it so we ended up reliquenshing our rights to go over there even though we lived in the community. STAY AWAY

Pros: Big pool area

Cons: Too many people! Always pool classes and tournaments in the indoor pool.
