At Durant Road Preschool, we strive to provide the highest quality care for our families by meeting the individual needs of each child that attends our school. Our staff are educated in developmentally appropriate practice and treat the children as they would their own. Unfortunately, as hard as we try, some expectations cannot be fulfilled due to the fact that we do provide group care. As always, visitors and prospective families are welcome at any time!

This is an attempt in providing an honest review of Durant Rd Pre-school. I read the reviews often just to see what "others" are thinking. Durant Rd daycare was the first center I visited when attempting to select a daycare for my grandson. The other centers I visited appeared to be nicer and more up to date technically but I we felt more WELCOME at Durant Rd. He has been in attendance since he was six weeks old. I have not had any MAJOR issues w/ the center. I beleive the staff to be concerned and caring and knowledgeble. I am not buddy buddy with the teachers/staff but I do respect their decisions and their qualifications in the care they provide. Teachers from other classes refer to him by name which I like. I have had my concerns over different situations but I also take into consideration what may have happened before I arrived. Look folks....... it is hard enough caring for a 1 child in a home. Could u imagine what it must be like to care for over a hundred children on a daily basis. Mistakes are made everyone is human. What I must commend the Director for is having an open door policy and allowing me to address my concerns without making feel as if I am just another complaining parent. Now what might be discussed (if anything) after the fact I could care less. Having had close friends who worked in the daycare industry and for the Daycare Liscensing board I realize that NC Daycares are under a lot of scrutiny. If u have real issues try and talk to the director before u just go and post a bogus review. If your concerns are valid then I suggest state facts not feelings that way u come across as being credible. But also remember exspecially if you are a parent that the staff cannot address ur concerns if you do not at least give the the opportunity to fix them.

DRP is terrible. Let me tell you a couple of things. Out of 5 daelectirys, 4 of them the teachers are out of ratio, I found a teacher in the bathroom with a child talking on her cell phone, electrical outlets without a cover, no incident reports when your child gets hurt. Please contact the Division of Child Development if you dont believe what we write. They left a child unattended and it is documented in the NCDCD.

THIS IS NOT A FALSE STATEMENT!!

When we began taking our child to DRP all was well. The 2 yr old class room was great. The teacher really cared for our child and he really looked forward to going to see her. As soon as our little boy transitioned from older 2's to younger 3's we started seeing a big difference in care.

Unfortunately our child has severe allergies and has to stay away from certain foods. These foods were offered around and sometime even offered to our child. Eventhough we had an epipen in his class room, it was still dangerous for the life of my little boy to offer these foods to him. All this and not to mention that during the fall, I walked into the class room in the afternoon and found a child left unattended.

I don't know if the former reviews are actually from teachers or staff that had left or been let go. All I can tell you is that, we have pulled our child out of DRP as of this morning.

The director might think that my wife and I are overly critical of the teachers but I think that is my right as a parent. I also believe that it is my duty to warn other parents considering this daycare.

Write this off if you wish but please try to keep it in mind and maybe do some suprise visits if you choose this daycare.

I would like to commend the teachers and staff at Durant Road Preschool for a job well done. My two children (3 years and 6 months) attend and I have been very happy with the care that is provided. I would and do recommend this school to anyone in need of child care. The teachers are loving and my kids really enjoy their day!

Our daughter has had a great experience at Durant Road Preschool. We have been at the school for about 31/2 years and I recommend this school for any parent in need of child care. I feel she has had the most loving and caring teachers that are available. I have been recently laid off from my job and it was the hardest thing to do when I had to submit my letter of withdrawl to the director. I can only hope that when I return to work, they will have an opening for my daughter!! We will miss seeing everyone everyday! Thanks to all...

My nieces and nephew have been at Durant Road Preschool for a little over ten years (three children) - we have seen many changes throughout the years, but the one thing that stands out is the love and care all three of my children received at the preschool. From the fulltime staff to the floating teachers to the directors, we have been extremely satisfied with the care, love and education our three children have received. Thank you!

We first "toured" Durant Road Preschool at durantroadpreschool.com. We got a good feeling from the photos and children's art. We liked what we read and so we scheduled a visit. We had a good feeling, but didn't enroll our child that day. We visited other places and came back unannounced a couple more times. We did enroll our child and have been very happy. More important, he is very happy. We feel like we get a lot of services for the money. The school is very clean and there are a lot of toys and equipment. They have a large playground and a climbing wall he really likes. We referred a friend and got $50.00 off our fee. That was a plus.

As a father of a child who attends Durant Rd. Preschool, I wanted to say something in its defense regarding the last two ??reviews?? posted on this website. First of all, regarding the school: The State of North Carolina has rated this a five-star center for a reason, that being that it is possibly the best center in the Triangle area, not to mention one of the most coast effective. The two directors, Jerri Theer and Jasmin Gaumer, run an open door policy regarding parent check-ups and visitation because there is nothing to hide at Durant Road. I would encourage you to stop by any time, and so would they. Why? Because you will see children receiving constant instruction and interaction with their teachers and others. This is a school, not just a daycare. I am highly selective about my son??s welfare, and I trust the instructors at Durant Road with his safety, well-being, and development everyday, and without hesitation.

Some prospective parents out there may read the last two reviews on this website and think, ??I wonder.? Don??t. Come to Durant Road yourself. Talk to Jerri and Jasmin. I have. And I learned a couple of interesting things. The incidents described in these accounts are FICTIONAL. They were not written by ??potential parents,? but by disgruntled ex-employees who were unfit for the job and got canned. Notice that these are not reviews of the school, but personal attacks on the administration. Why would a mother who stopped by a school once know so many personal details? Why would an ??almost parent? make such personal, vitriolic attacks on Jerri and Jasmin? They wouldn??t. If they didn??t like the school, they would list a few reasons why and move on. Or more likely, they wouldn??t have had to write a negative review, because the vast majority of parents who tour Durant Road Preschool sign their children up immediately.

Jerri and Jasmin have too much class to respond to such despicable, and yes, lame and pathetic attempt to disparage the school. Personal attacks disguised as a review on City Search? Really? That??s all you have to do with your spare time? Very, very low. Fortunately, not to low for me to stoop right down there with you: Whoever wrote the last two reviews are so simple-minded that they assume a discerning parent can??t tell the difference between an honest review and the half-illiterate rantings of a fat drunk. You know who you are, and really, if you are going to post libel (get a dictionary and look the word up since I doubt you know what it means) on the web, at least do so in something approaching standard English sentence structure.

Pros: The administration, facilities, and staff

Cons: dishonest reviews from ex-employees posing as parents

I was "ALMOST" a parent from durant road but the day i went out with my infant to do a tour, NEITHER director was there. That put up all types of warning signs in my head i mean what if something serious was to happen that one of the teachers couldnt control i mean who's next in charge? The kids! So i was given a tour by some girl named Beth and once she opened the door to the infant room we took our shoes off for sanitation reasons, which i dont know what for because the floor was disguisting. The teacher in they're had the kids sitting in bouncers and some were on they're stomachs on the floor just screaming they're little heads off with runny noses and licking the floor. I was in awe, especially once i looked at the lead teacher in there that was covered in red sores that seemed to be ozzing all over her body! "IM THINKING STD" but how would i know, i heard they never get tested for anything! Some parents i talked to said they had some complaints with her but never pushed the issue because they were told the Head Director never EVER resolves anything and just pushes everything to the back of her list. I also heard jerri and jasmin are so scared by the mistreated kids parents that they hide under they're desk just so they dont have to approach them! I heard that they dont go by the kids age once it's time to transition to the next class, they go by which kids they like! All these thing was told to me in the "infamous DRP parking lot" by another parent who's child was about to be removed. She even told me that one of the teachers out there was caught putting her foot on the childs back to make him go to sleep. By the childs mom who is a parent/teacher out there, who later cried her eyes out in disbelief! WOW and guess what? Jerri knows! She's just to busy taking her personal problems out on the staff and trying to make everyone feel as bad about theme selves as she does. And jasmin is busy wondering, if she's not still pregnant, WHY DOES IT LOOK LIKE IT!

Hi WEB! Im a very understanding parent but i DO NOT play when it Comes to my GIRLS! Unfortunately i recently encountered a major disapointment! My daughter was enrolled in DRP not to long ago, at first everything was Great! I enjoyed her lead teacher, she welcomed me and my child with open arms, she was caring, enteractive with the kids, she treated them all as if they were hers! But all of a sudden she was gone and once i asked what happend i was blown off! And thats when everything went down hill. A few days later i came to pick her up and she was outside on the playground soaked in urine, i wondered why when she had numerous pairs of changing clothes, not only that but she's potty trained very well! So when i questioned the teacher that was once a co-teacher and now lead, she just looked at me as if she was puzzled??? Which left me puzzled! I also had another bad experience with the "Co" director Jasmin who took it upon herself to call my childs "contact" instead of myself (the mother). Once again when i questioned i got no answer in return. So i took it amongst myself to remove her from the ficility, & get a load of this, i was told that the "Directors that you guys think are so "Great" talked about me and responded with a simple "She cried to much anyway" followed by laughs! So the next day i came in to obtain my daughters belongings, Neither director spoke or took out the time to look up from there desk! Professional you say, parents be carefull because youre not theyre every minute, so how would you know that everything is so "Goody-Goody"? You wouldnt because the front that the directors uphold is just that, "A FRONT"!

We initially were pretty happy with Durant Preschool but over time and different transitions we became concerned:

Some of the teachers seem to be great, interested and involved with the children, but there are quite a few "teachers" who seem to be sitting around an awful lot and not really connecting with kids. I know that no one has the energy to be up and interacting all day, but I saw a lot of sitting around watching them or worse being caught up in their own conversations, and I guess I expected more interaction?

I also don't get much of a report about my child when I ask. I get generic "doing fine" or "pretty good's" without many details. Some of the teachers welcome the children, talk to them, etc.. but others will basically give them a "hi" in the morning and continue on in their conversations with the other "teachers" in the room.

Additionally when I've shown up at 'non-standard' times (later in the morning, earlier in the afternoon) outside of normal drop off and pick up times, I've seen a very different atmosphere and almost always different "teachers" than the ones I see in the morning & at night.

I have a security concern as well that there doesn't appear to be any other than the teacher knowing you a little bit? But not sure how that happens with transitions every 3-6 months. None of them have ever really initiated conversation with me to get to know me.

I don't know, I don't expect my children to be treated like royalty, but I don't get the indication that they are getting the kind of attention that they need or proclaim to get either.

Sometimes I get incident reports that are thoroughly detailed, sometimes I??ve gotten obvious ones like ??bruise or scratch?? but without any ??how it happened?, and one time I didn??t get anything at all despite a pretty obvious injury.

Like I said initially I felt like our kids got a lot of attention and good interaction / treatment early on, but lately it seems to be going the other way?

You would think that in this economy people would be making more of an effort to keep their jobs / customers? It's harder and harder to keep paying these prices and my wife and I are starting to look more into the stay at home mom's who are watching only a few kids in their homes as an alternative.

By the way, the tone of the reviews below look to me to be reviews submitted by staff or family of the preschool. Very few details except for how great the "staff" is ..make your own decision, but that's just my .02.

I just wanted to say I am a mother of two and currently have one child still attending Durant Road Preschool. In all the years my children have been there I have been beyond happy and so have my children. That is not to say that I havn't had my disagreements with things from time to time but give me a break who can please over a hundred children plus parents everyday. Also, when problems did come up I always have felt welcome to talk to everyone. I believe the directors and staff are all great people and whoever finds the need to bash them on a web site should be ashamed. If you have a problem tell them, don't be childish and use a public website to shame their name and place of employment. How would you feel if your name was being bashed on the internet. As for all the sickness comments I know first hand for a child to come back into that school they have to have a doctor's note, I have lost my cool a few time for having to get one. Also, whoever thinks the Jerri and Jasimen talk behind people's back, I don't believe it and even if they did how many of you can go all day at work without gossiping or talking about someone else, I beat not that many of you. So why can't all of you stop being so childish and use this website for what it is intended for and not for bashing people as if you are still in High school. GROW-UP!!! These people are taking care of your most precious gifts and do a great job at it.

Pros: great school with great people

Cons: none

.

I can't say enough good things about this school. My child has been attending this school since they were 6 weeks old. I always feel at ease in the mornings when I drop my child off. I know if there is ever a issue concerning my child the teachers along with Jerri & Jasmin will always contact me asap to keep him along with the other children safe and healthy. I am also very happy to say when my husband or I come to pick our child up he is always engaged in some sort of activity that he is enjoying (sometimes he doesnt want to leave because he's having so much fun)! I will always recommend Durant Rd Preschool to friends of ours. Keep up the great work!!!

To who ever wrote that completely FALSE review, I believe it is sad that you have to make up complete lies! The Directors at DRP do not in any way shape or forum show favoritism. They treat everyone the same. Also, I would like address the allegations about the ?R.S.V, HAND FOOT AND MOUTH AND OTHER DESEASES AND GERMS,? there recently has been children that have had these cases of sicknesses BUT have been to the doctor and been treated. They have returned with a doctor?s note and are/have been on medication for 24 hrs. or more! The people who have been writing these reviews are either ex-employees who have left on bad terms or people with issues! My child goes there and I would trust these people with my daughters life!!

Once again, to everyone who has read those negative reviews about DRP, PLEASE WHATEVER YOU DO PUT THOSE REVIEWS OUT OF MIND! My child has been going there since she was 6 weeks and I have never had a problem with her teachers OR the directors. From the moment you walk into the building you are welcomed by all the staff and especially the directors! I have to say out of everyone at that center, the directors are the most amazing people I have ever met! Very friendly, happy-go-lucky women i have ever met! The teachers are the most warm hearted people and actually take the time to get to know you and your child. My daughter has gotten so attached to her teachers that she is their little shadow where ever they go! I trust her teachers in and out without any hesitations! When my friends ask where to find a great child care center I Immediately tell them about DRP. I have nothing but good things to say about them! I would recommend any and everyone to go look for yourself! DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT let the negative reviews effect your decision of DRP!

Totally love this school - the staff and administration are awesome - our daughter is in love with her teachers and we feel as thought we are part of the DRP family! The staff turnover is very, very low and the teacher enthusiasm is very, very high! Great programs and...they are a 5 star school! WE LOVE DRP!

I would like to thank all of the staff and administration at Durant Road Preschool for providing us continous, reliable and loving care to our children. From the infant room to the preschool classrooms, we have had a wonderful early childhood experience while living in Raleigh. We recommend all of our friends who are in need of care to visit your school - the only complaint is...you NEVER have openings! Bad for parents who are looking for care, but good for you! That just shows how GREAT you all are!
Thanks for everything!

Cons: None...but if I had to list one - it would be that they do not have an afterschool program

I have had my two year old here since infancy and our whole family- parents, grandparents, and big sister who never attended- LOVE it! We feel so welcomed whenever we come by or call. Teachers and directors are friendly, welcoming, professional, warm and stable. My son's big sister went to four different 4 and 5 star centers and none of them come close to the care my son receives here. I would recommend this center to anyone.

We are no longer a family at Durant Road Preschool (due to a recent lay off) and we unfortunately had to withdraw our child from their program. Although this was the only preschool my son has been in, I cannot imagine any better school. The school is truly a five star program - from the first day my son attended, to his last day, we never had a second thought to the kind of care he was receiving. Not only were the teachers in his classroom outstanding, all of the other staff were of the same. It seemed that everyone knew our little Josh - -and that is a WONDERFUL feeling for a parent to have! If we were to need child care again, there is no question where we would go -- right back to Durant Road Preschool!
Thank you to everyone there!

I just received an email from one of my close friends about a recent review of Durant Road Preschool. I have two children who received excellent care from the teachers at Durant Road. We always had very positive relationships with the staff and feel that our children were well prepared for kindergarten. I never questioned the decisions made by the administration with regards to hiring the most educated and competent teachers and had complete trust in the school throughout our years there. If my husband and I were to have another child, we would not hesitate to entrust them with the staff at Durant Road. I have to agree with my friend that this is an A++++ school!

We have had three children attend Durant Road Preschool since they opened - we have had THE best childcare experience while at this school! As a Wake County school teacher, I think the teachers are highly educated, enthusiastic, and very loving towards all children in their care. I am always recommending D.R.P. to anyone looking for childcare! My two oldest children who are in public school were more than prepared for kindergarten...my youngest child who is still attending the preschool is in a wonderful classroom with the best teachers! A++++ school!

As a past employee who not only returned to this fine school but also enrolled her toddler, I must say that this is an amazing preschool! The staff are loving to the children and provide a very developmentally appropriate environment for the children to grow and learn. After reading the most current review, I wanted to give current and prospective parents piece of mind in knowing that these statements are inaccurate. The administration follows all rules and regulations pertaining to background checks as required by the North Carolina Division of Child Development. I would encourage you to check out their website to see a more accurate evaluation of our program.

I highly recommend Durant Road Preschool to any prospective parents looking for a well-rounded preschool for their child(ren). Durant Road has wonderful directors, they have a very well educated and loving staff who will take the time to get to know your child one-on-one. Every teacher, and I mean EVERY teacher, excels in their classroom, their warmth and presence they give you right away as soon as you walk into their classroom makes it easy to drop off your child without feeling bad because you know that you just dropped off your child in great, caring hands. These teachers have 100% patience with all their students, and their wonderful and caring demeanor makes them wonderful caregivers and teachers. I HIGHLY recommend this school, Durant Road Preschool rocks!

This is a wonderful preschool with excellent teachers and happy children. The programs are developmentally appropriate, creative and engaging. There are many special activities as well as a great Spanish and music teacher. There is a monthly visit from the science museum and a book of the month club. The classrooms are well equipped with lots of materials. It is a warm and nurturing preschool. As an educator and parent I suggest you visit.

I would never send my kids here. I use to work here, and let me tell you, it's not at all what it seems. The staff may seem pleasant when you go in, but believe me what goes behind the scenes is another story. When I worked there, things that were broken and dangerous to the kids were not fixed in a timely manner. Discipline, is used regularly, with extended timeouts for kids. I have seen kids being yelled at, pinched, threaten and sometimes even spanked. When the state came to inspect, everything was hidden and we were told to lie to the state. Eventhough this may seem like a perfict location...PLEASE THINK TWICE!!!!! :(

This preschool is conveniently located on Durant Road in North Raleigh. It has a great program for preschoolers for them to learn, socialize and grow. The teachers are sweet and really get involved in the lives of each child. They are expensive but good for your child.
