Oldie but a goodie

by Bunny E. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,612

The Rialto has been around forever and plays the artsy films. If you are a college kid, be sure to check out the midnight showings of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, if they are still doing that...

great atmosphere

by Anonymous

Even though it's almost always freezing in the theatre, it's a nice place to see a movie. The seats are comfortable and they sell beer and wine. Check out a movie and sip on a rioja. It's also in a convenient location.

Fun for the art minded...

by Susanna G. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,411

I always feel classy when i visit the rialto. the rialto is an old 1950s theater located near gelnwood south. The patrons range from teenagers to older folks, and the movies are typically independent films taht are not being shown in any other thaeter in town, although occasionally you'll be able to see a blockbuster or two.

Great place for a unique time...

Great movies..ehh..theater

by Emily P. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,665

The rialto was built in the 50's...and you can tell. theres no stadium seating, no fantastic speaker system, and no big blockbusters. What they do have are fantastic independent films, and a modest snack bar. If your looking for a little class for your night at the movies, give the rialto a try...you might be surprised.

The Rialto is your Indy Film Hook-up!

by Amy G. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,138

The Rialto is one of my favorite places in Raleigh. It's located near downtown Raleigh, plays lots of Indy movies AND you can have a beer while you are watching your favorite Indy movie! If you're wanting to do something different they show The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Friday nights at midnight. Be sure to wear your best pair of underwear!

1942 Renovated Movie House

by Kelly M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,949

The Rialto is one of the only movie theaters in Raleigh that shows limited release, independent, and controversial movies. Every Friday night at midnight they host a Rocky Horror Picture Show showing which is a unique experience unto itself. They also play host to Burning Coal Theatre Company, a non-profit theatre company that does a wide variety of interactive plays. Some of the best movies I have seen in the past year have been at The Rialto. Unlike some other smaller theaters, they have Dolby Surround Sound and every seat in the house has a good view of the screen. They have the typical movie food, but also a small bar that serves alcohol.

PROS: Best place to watch Indy films
CONS: Not for those who want flashy theaters
