I see Kellie at The Garden Salon and get a great cut every time. She also will trim bangs or the nape of my neck in between cuts for free. Their new location on Erwin is nicely decorated. I can't speak on any other services, but the cuts have always been great and the staff is very friendly.

Kellie has been cutting my hair for about 2 years. I love it every time! I have very thick hair and she knows to tame it. I love that I can go in and just tell her to fix it with limited input from me and it turns out great!

I was so happy to find this place. I've been seeing Shea for over a year now. I love love my cut and color each time. I highly recommend this place!

The place is cute, decorated in pink with nice touches. The atmosphere, though, is very casual, almost like you've gone to a friend's house to have her do your hair. But what really matters is the cut, and mine was great. I'm very happy with the results and have received many compliments, even after my first cut there.

The Garden is by far the best, trendy, hip secret kept in the area. Having had my hair done almost everywhere in major cities, The Garden is by far the best experience you will have with hair styling, cut and color. Shea, the owner, is unbelievably talented and is such a cool person. You wish that she was one of your friends. Erin is also fantastic as well. I have enjoyed going to the both of them - they are gems in Durham! If you want a hip and classy look, The Garden is the place to go.
Pros: Always on the cutting edge with color and cuts - great staff
Cons: None
I found the Garden salon a few months ago after living in Durham for 4 years. I've gone to see Kellie three times now and every time she's done an absolutely incredible job. I have thick, curly hair and she's been the first hairdresser who's really listened to me; she literally gave me the haircut I've always wanted. She's colored it twice and is very meticulous about giving good color and taking care of your hair. (She also straightens it for me at the end of every session which a lot of salons don't do). Best of all their prices are relatively low - I've paid twice as much at the Aveda salon on 9th street, for not nearly as good of a job. It's a very relaxed, low-key environment which is a pleasant change from most high-quality salons - highly recommended!
Pros: relaxed environment, good prices, really talented/friendly staff
Cons: parking can be annoying (lots of construction in downtown durham)
The Garden Salon is excellent. When I moved to Durham I didn't know where to go for a great haircut. I am so glad I chose Garden Salon. I am always skeptical when choosing a salon because I rarely recieve the cut/color/ etc that I actually asked for. But Erin did an amazing job - she gave me exactly what I asked for. She pays a lot of attention to detail and kept working at it until my hair was perfect! The atmosphere is great as well, and the location downtown is quite convenient. I highly recommend this salon - ask for Erin, she is wonderful!
I have lived all over the country and have been in the Triangle 4 years - I have tried EVERY recommended salon, Aveda, "trendy", "hip", most expensive and I found the trendiest, fun, pink, affordable, salon in Durham - the Garden. Shannon is new - she is a "big city" stylist gracing us in the south. She gave me the best color I've had in years. She was fun, hip, genuine - the salon is reasonable and the owner supports the revitalization of Downtown Durham. Smart, sophisticated, fun - book an appt. with Shannon before SHE books up!
Pros: Great atmosphere
Cons: A drive if you don't live in Durham
Durham's The Garden Salon is the only salon that I will ever go to in the area. I have looked high and low for a trusted stylist to work with my naturally curly hair and have found it in Kellie Gates. (She even beats the stylist I had when I lived in New York City!) Location is about as hip as you can get (right-dab in the middle of downtown Durham where a mini-Soho in NC is emerging), prices are affordable (student discounts available), there is always incredible local art hanging on the walls, and everyone who works there is confident in their style and humble in their heart. And did I mention Kellie Gates? Get yourself to the Garden!
Pros: open Saturdays and evenings, involved in community events
Erin is a great stylist! I recently moved away from the Triangle & REALLY miss my haircuts @ The Garden. Before my move, I was getting my short hair cut by Erin every 3ish weeks. Each cut was a little different from the last but I always loved ALL of them. Great value too!
Pros: Great stylist, Nice salon
