1 Stars: DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME (by john m.)

Brought my 2002 Dodge Dakota R/T 5.9 mpi with 74,000 actual miles, never wrecked, in Better then average condition for an appraisal. After about 20 min they came to me with an offer of $2,500. They friendly staff told me that my truck was not a real R/T and could only be sold as a regular Dakota Sport. I have since called and verified from my VIN through Chrysler that my truck is in fact a true R/T and they were trying to scam me out of an additional $2,000.00 I just sold the truck this afternoon for $7,800.00 with a starting price of $8,500.00 Do not waste your valuable time with these Professional con artist.

1 Stars: CarMax in Raleigh (by Greg S.)

In my view the entire appraisal ad is a con. I had my car appraised in Raleigh that they would sell for approximately $14,000 and they only offered $5,000. Their appraiser is either incompetent or a fraud. Don't waste your time.

1 Stars: Never getting my business again. (by cristie c.)

AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE after you buy!!! I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy! They are super nice to you to get you to buy, but beware once you drive that car off their lot! Just as expected, things start to happen once their 30 day' warranty' is up, then you are screwed, even with things that were wrong when you bought the car. I was promised that the things that were wrong were taken care of prior to bringing the car home. I found out past 30 days that they were NOT. Spoke to the service people including the manager and they would do nothing, literally telling me that it was my problem now. Nasty, condescending treatment, shoulder shrugging 'don't care' attitudes from all whom I dealt with in the service department. I will NEVER go back there again, even though I have a so called joke of an extended warranty for repairs there. I'd rather pay extra to have my car repairs done at a trustworthy place where folks have integrity. Carmax in Raleigh doesn't deserve one more dime from me and I am sorry I ever went there to begin with. I have no doubt that anyone here who gives them a high rating is a fake.

5 Stars: Great experience (by Amanda P.)

We just bought our car from Carmax tonight on a Friday night after 5:30, we were greeted warmly as soon as we entered the door. Mr. Frank Bates was warm and helpful, the whole process was made easier by his friendly and welcoming demeanor. We were thoroughly impressed with Mr. Bates and the carmax team. In this age of "badgers" it is rare to find a truly professional salesman. We have looked at numerous dealerships both small and large and Carmax provided us with the best deal, as well as the best options for financing our purchase. Overall we would highly recommend the Carmax of Raleigh to anyone.

4 Stars: Happy not haggling (by Michelle F.)

I was very pleased with our experience at carmax. We sold a vehicle and were given a great price, then decided to purchase also. I test drove many vehicles and the sales persons had no problems with this, he also had to do it twice with every vehicle to prevent putting the car seat in and out of all these cars. My husband would watch the baby while I test drove then we'd swap. We also took advantage of the five day return policy. I drove the truck for two days and just didn't love it. We took it back no questions asked. We then purchased another. How many dealerships would do that? And the no haggling saves everyone time. If you wanna haggle go to a normal dealership.

1 Stars: Don't wast your time. (by Sean P.)

By looking at their website you could come to the conclusion that CarMax has good prices and a huge inventory.

However don't be taken in! All the dealership is interested in is your checkbook. They will not accept deposits on vehicle and they will not let you drive or start the vehicle without telling them you will buy it right then and there.

The units look good in the website photos but when you get in one they are filthy!

Also their ads are misleading.

However; they are very good at one thing: Turning away high quality customers and making sure they never return.

1 Stars: How not to treat your customers (by Sean H.)

The service at this facility is atrocious. I was kept waiting literally for an hour and a half in a sales representative's office, subjected to draconian policies by salesmen who were utterly clueless about the cars they were attempting to sell me, and basically had nearly two whole hours of my life wasted by these people.

I arrived, nearly cash-in-hand, knowing exactly what I wanted and how to get it. My sale was theirs to screw up, and screw it up they did! Do yourself a favor and buy a used car from someone who actually cares about selling it to you.

Haggle-free, by the way, is a euphemism for "non-negotiable".

PROS: Caters especially to those who enjoy jumping through hoops.
CONS: Clueless salesmen. Horrible service. No customer care.

5 Stars: Best customer Service (by kabinet k.)

I am very pleased with my recent purchase from CarMax.
Salesman Benson, with an accent explained the unique way CarMax does business and it was smooth all the way. No haggling, my credit not being the best, he said and I quote, " there is excellent, bad and anywhere in between....we are all there" I bought my Chevy Malibu and he called to make sure I was happy with the car. PS You can return a car if not satisfied.

3 Stars: Okay experience with Carmax (by Christine K.)

We recently purchased a car with Carmax. While we were happy with the car we bought I don't think that we would buy another one from Carmax again. There were several issues that we had that we needed to be the ones to follow up with. The customer service was below par. While they do have a great selection of makes and models, the way we were treated will be what stands out in our mind with Carmax. One positive thing is that they do have a room for children to play in while you are looking at cars.

4 Stars: I found my car online (by Diane B.)

I like that Carmax lists their inventory online so that I found the car that I wanted online. When I went to the store I test drove it and a couple others and ended up buying the one I found online. There was no haggling on the price and no pressure. It was a great experience buying a car and I would go back there again.

4 Stars: No Haggle Used Cars! (by Tara S.)

All of the prices are fixed at CarMax, so there is never any haggling. The salespeople at this location were totally non-aggressive and didn't immediatley make me feel like I was going to be scammed (like most used-car salesmen). I got the car I wanted to get at about the price I was looking for!
