I have only a snapshot view because I have called this office a few times to get shot records for our new puppy. I am surprised one has to go through an automated receptionist for a vet appointment. Once I was told they see over 80 animals a day, I realized this office has a true challenge of giving patients the personal attention the animals and their owners deserve.

I have a rescue English Bulldog..She has numerous problems .( yes, alot of emergencies & waiting!!) I really like this office , but I take her to a " Bulldog" specialist( if your kid was sick they wouldn't go to your adult family DR)..I will continue to go here w/ my other dogs & rescues. But sometimes a different opinion / dr is needed . ND vet is amazing w/ my Yorkies & have saved their lives several times.....

Dr. Schmunk simply saved - or at least prolonged, realistically - my cat's life. He never gave up on him. I brought him in tears thinking it was the last time I was going to see him. Since I couldn't bear thinking I was taking him to be put to sleep I said I was keeping him for an overnight stay and whatever he thought was best we could discuss and decide the next day. - Quick history - My cat just stopped moving his hind end, then stopped voiding and defecating. We took him to the vet and had his bowels evacuated thinking he just had severe constipation. He never resumed eliminating so we took him back. He was getting so worse every day that I was literally just providing comfort care. I guess it's also important to know that I work in the healthcare field so I have an understanding already of what is going on even though I never mentioned this. Because of my experience, I was trying home remedies as well to try to stimulate him to eliminate and did see some days that looked hopeful. However, ultimately I thought it was him time (after much crying, debate, praying, etc..) and had already prepared setting up a friend to help me bury him. ....

I called Dr. Schmunk personally (who had already seen Toby) and told him what was going on. *** Let me quickly add that as a healthcare worker, you don't typically get a doctor directly on the phone, much less while you're put on hold. That alone says a lot about his character. *** He told me to bring him in. I told him it would be too distressing for me to sit in the lobby for the extended wait that others had mentioned. (Yes it's true, he does have a long wait time... because he's worth it.) He told me to tell the front desk staff that he had asked me to bring Toby in and to drop him off.

Toby spent four days at NDV...and I called everyday with questions and different ideas I had thought up, and desired updates. Everytime I was never treated rudely, my questions were answered...and I was encouraged to call later when his patient load is lighter (8:00ish). I mean heck, the man is still there at 8:00 pm.. (often later).

He told me to come in the next day and I wasn't sure if this was his way of telling me in person that it was time or what was really going to be addressed. I, again, didn't wait due to my instruction to come in and the inability to get an apt that day. I was lead back to my cat by an assistant and he was moving, urinating in the litter box...alert...and just MY CAT again. He was so happy to see me and purred. He was moving and ...i'm still in shock. He upped his meds to Reglan and Enulose. That should help him permanently be able to move his bowels on his own to prevent the constipation that leads to reluctance to move, eat, and just deteriorate. I'm not sure all the treatment that he received there, but I know it involved fluids, bowel evacuation, and several trial & errors before they found what works.

My point is - the below reviews might have persuaded me to try another vet and I can tell you as someone in healthcare, someone who has seen him work miracles....someone who NEVER gave up on my cat and took time to address my concerns - that wait and perhaps some "snotty" staff was well worth it. My cat in the other room would agree. (I must say I have never encounered any snotty staff...they've all been wonderful, especially a girl named Laura.)

I'm not discrediting other reviews...maybe they weren't expecting the wait, or something off happened..or who knows... but make an appointment, and know that even after the appointment you'll likely wait an hour. They're dealing with a lot of stuff at once and that can be stressful. Often they are not aware of how they come off...so cut those girls some slack....

Dr. Schmunk simply put...saved my cats life. There's a chance we can encounter the problem again, but any amount of time extra that I have with Toby is worth it. He never gave up. Remember that.

First of all I am sorry for the poor customer service that you've received from NDV. I personally have never experienced anything more than an long hold time.
Please recognize that based on what I have read here that is all you have experienced was poor customer service.
I understand this experience could have and did cause more heart ache and pain then needed.
We live in a time when people including professional people do not understand the importance of customer service.
Now with that being said the actual Dr.s at NDV are amazing. The prices can not be beat! I live in Forsyth county 5 minutes away from a vet and I drive 25 minutes one way to get to NDV. We recently were given a dog to avoid her going to the pound. So we had to take her to get all of her shots and fecal testing. Including medicine the visit only cost us $100. The vet around the corner wanted closer to $200.
We did not see Dr. S because his wait was crazy! He is like a rock star on the vet scene. lol
We saw Dr. Grow (I believe that was her name) she too was amazing. I will continue to go to NDV and if I have a customer service issue I will address that but I will not slam the entire establishment for the behavior of one or two untrained, unskilled customer care providers. After all they went to school to take care of dogs and cats not people. Sorry.

My dog of 25 lbs seemed to loose weight overnight and could hardly walk. I hadn't taken him to NDV in several years since they got the new building, because I was treated rude by their receptionist. I started going to Thomasville Veterinary Hospital for his shots and annual wellness check ups. NDV was close so I thought I would try them first because my dog seemed to be in pain and I thought he needed to be seen right away. The whole time I was there my dog could not lift his head up and he laid there breathing rapidly.
First they told me I needed an appt, which would be one week from that day. I told them it was an emergency and they asked me to sign in on a board and they would get right back with me. One hour went by and I took my dog out to potty, he started to throw up and just laid down and would not move.
I went back inside and told them he was getting worse. The lady that I talked to asked me if I had an appt and I told her no, that I was asked to sit down about an hr ago and someone was supposed to see if he could be seen. She then told me that they were not an emergency hospital and he would not be seen. I told her I had been there for an hr and she wanted to know who told me this. I described the young girl to her and found out that she had gone home for the day.
I agree, with one other poster about the unprofessional way this was handled. She then recommended two other hospitals and did not even apologize for the girl misinforming me.
I finally just drove to Thomasville Veterinary Hospital and they had me done in one hr. My dog was diagnosed with diabetes and they were great. Though he could have died waiting on NDV to figure out is they wanted to help me, since his sugar was around 600!!!!
I will never go back...........never.........ever!!!

There is some shady things going on at this hospital. I took my new family Christmas puppy there for an emergency. I left a nice size deposit and was told to call back the next day. I tried and tried to get through and finally after about 8 hours and being transfered and being put on hold for 22 minutes I was told my puppy was ok and could be picked up. It was 6:00 by then and I was told they were closed and I would have to pay an addiditional $60 to pick it up. As with most people money is tight right now and I said I would pick him up 1st thing in the am. I had to be at work at 10 so I stopped by to get him at 7:30 and was told I could not pick him up untill Dr. Schmunk was there. He would be there around 9. Even if he saw me as soon as he got in (I knew that wouldn't happen if you have ever been to this vet hospital the waiting is ridiculous) I could never get to work on time and I had to be at work. I work till 7pm so I didn't know when I could pick my puppy up. I called later that day and spoke with a rude office manager and she said I could board the puppy for $15 dollars a day until I could get by to pick him up. She told me I already had a balance of $75. The $75 was all the money I could round up after already leaving the $150 from the start. Now I was looking at $15 a day more and I could not pick him up until Sat. I told her I wouldn't have the extra fee's until the following week. She told me to come by as soon as I could. When I went to pick my puppy up she said I owed more then originally thought and this was my new balance. I was devastated. I asked if I could work out a payment plan and she said no. I didn't know what to do. She said they would keep the puppy until I could come up with the balance. (Still I was having the ($15 a day) tacked on to the balance I already didn't have. She then told me if I wanted to release the puppy to North Davidson Vet hospital they would take care of the remaining balance and " since it was such a cute puppy they could find it a better home." My heart was breaking! I had a child that loves this puppy and I couldn't afford to get it back home. The office manager looked at me coldly and said its up to you. I ended up signing the puppy over to them because I knew I could not come up with the balance for another week and I was having to pay more on a daily basis. COLD HEARTED PEOPLE!!!! I truly think they wanted this puppy so they arranged a way to get it.

I have been taking my dog and cats here for a few years and he is always there and helping when people say "me and my buddy need help" ! He is the greatest and when my pets need some doc assistance he is the one that I turn to! If you are looking for a pet doctor then Doctor Schmuck(oops I spelled it wrong lol) he is the guy for you and your pets. Forget all these idiot people who say he sucks they are the ones that something has to be done right then but nobody cares bout their issues! He is the best all around

You have to wait 2 hours to see a vet that runs in and out of the room...spending about 2 minutes with your pet. The office manager and staff are rude! I see all the reviews on here praising Dr. Schmunk and the truth is if he charged as much as all the other vets no one would be calling him a saint. Overall, you get what you pay for and in this case it's terrible service and care for you and your pet.

I have been taking my animals to Dr. Schmunk for 10 years now.
He is an amazing vet and is solely in it for the animals. What people do not realize is this man works 7 days a week. He may not be open, may not be available, but he is there, checking on his surgeries and our pets every day. I had to take my dog to the emergency vet, spent 120 dollars for a shot and the visit...went to Dr. S the following day, spent not much more than the same amount for an emergency after hours appointment, which included a LOT of work, and also including his after hours fee. Any other vet would have charged at least three times that amount.

If people have to wait, it is because he is busy. And he has helped me through many an emergency. He is very knowledgeable, and I do not trust anyone else with my dogs' care. I cannot thank this man enough for all he has done to help me with my pets over the years, and I will never take them to anyone else, unless an emergency where I can't reach him.

*And to comment the "overbooking"...He does this because he has a lot of regulars who drive hours to see him. He doesn't turn people away, and once he is seeing your animal, he takes his time and talks to you in depth. My last visit was an hour in office because there was a LOT to go over. I don't complain about someone who goes to that much trouble.

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Schmunk. I was very impressed. My mother's 7-year-old Boston Terrier was recently diagnosed with a Mass Cell Tumor. It has been removed, however, she was told that Blossom only has about 6 months to live. Of course, we were devistated. We decided to get a second opinion. My brother had recommended Dr. Schmunk. Our appt was at 1:00. We got there early and did all the paperwork. At 1:03 we were taken back to the examining room. About 5 minutes later the Dr. came in. He examined Blossom and said that she looked very healthy. We are awaiting the results of the pathology test, however, Dr. Schmunk did give us hope that there will be some treatment to extend her life. He was very positive and hopeful and that is what we needed right now. I would highly recommend him. The whole experience was well worth the 2-hr drive to see him.

What ppl don't understand is, if the ONLY thing needed is VAX and the ANIMAL has been SEEN before , then a TECH ,(NOT THE DOCTOR) will give shots.... that's why some ppl only wait 15 min !!! NOT because they know ppl and get back faster !!! Great vet and great staff .... I have never waited over an hour for an actual appt. that I have made, now if you are a work-in then you will prob wait a while.

Dr. Schmunk is a great vet, hands down.. BUT IF YOU HAVE AN EMERGENCY, DO NOT GO HERE!!!! THE PEOPLE HE HAS WORKING FOR HIM WILL NOT, I REPEAT WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE EMERGENCY.
My Rotty was snake bitten and was lathargic and we were told we would just have to wait our turn. We even called before going.. They knew we were coming.
We left and went to High Point Vet, Dr. Sink... They took her right back. She would have died if we had waited for the staff to get the Doctor out there for us!!!

The biggest issue I've had is that the wait is ridiculous! I've had to wait 4+ hours when I had an appointment. I know things happen and emergencies arise, but most who were walk ins were seen before me and they were not emergencies. Once you're finally called back to a room, there's even more waiting. The staff can be quite rude at times as well.

The prices are excellent as well as Dr. Smuck, but I just can't wait 4 hours for my dog or cat to be seen when there are other vets that can see my pet in half the time with equally great service.

I hope that this Vet is as good as many people have told me. I have a 9 week old Rottie that is due for her shots. I have made an appointment so we will see. If it goes smoothly, I will start taking my 5 year old Rottie there. If not, I will continue to use Clemmons
Vet.

I hope that this Vet is as good as many people have told me. I have a 9 week old Rottie that is due for her shots. I have made an appointment so we will see. If it goes smoothly, I will start taking my 5 year old Rottie there. If not, I will continue to use Clemmons
Vet.

This business needs to look at how they do business...why set appointments for clients when their policy is to always overbook? This is not fair for the pets or their owners. We were told on two separate occassions that a wait of 1 1/2 hours was "normal" This is not acceptable. If you want a professional veterinary try Jordon's where there is no over booking! Appointments are honored.

i recently went in to this establishment with a emergency situation with a small farm animal. i waited along side a few others for over 4 hours being told that it would only be a few minutes. all the while i was i waiting i watched several walk ins come in after me and the others and get served before us. they were gone long before i finally said anything after watching about the 8th one go back before us. how do i know they were walk ins you might ask? because i heard them say they were walkins and did not have a appointment. most of them werent there 15 minutes. my animal was near death while waiting. the staff knew it and didnt care! i had to leave to get my kids from school as it closed early that day for the weather. my little animal was never seen at all. i had to treat him myself at home the best i could. and PRAY that he didnt die on me while waiting for MY APPOINTMENT to come around the following week. not only did i see the inconsideration of the staff but so did the others. and when i confronted the staff a second time she basically called me a liar in front of everyone and said show me who was called ahead of you. i then informed her i would love to but they have already gone! if i had a choice to go somewhere else i would, but unfortunately he is the only one who sees this type of farm animal around here.

I have been taking my dog to Dr. Schmunk for almost a year when I got him as a puppy. On his puppy visit,he had a reaction to the flea meds and Dr. Schmunk took him back in right away and corrected the problem. Didn't have to pay or anything. ALL my friends recommended him and I understand why. The practice is great. They take all walk ins. If you don't have an appointment, you will wait longer as a walk in, but that is in any practice (vet or human doc). He has so many clients because he is the best and his prices are so much better than other. He actually loves all his animals. My dog recently had a virus and was so sick, I though he was going to die. I called the office at 10:30 pm on Friday evening, and was in the office by 11 pm with Dr. Schmunk treating him. I don't know any other vet that would do that. I have been there maybe a dozen times with my pup and have never been treated rude or anything. I would refer him to anyone and will never take my dog anywhere else.

I have been going to North Davidson for 5 years and have 2 dogs that are now 12 years old. Dr. Schmucks is a great vet, his partner vets and animal staff are also great. My dog had a rash I had been dealing with for 5 years prior to going to north Davidson, I had been to 4 or 5 different vets. In one visit I was givin a medication that in one treatment had resolved the problem and it never returned. The prices are very reasonable.

Take from this review what you will. I have given North Davidson Veterinary a middle of the road score only because I cannot differentiate between the Doc and the establishment. As for Dr Schmunk, I honestly believe you will never find a better vet, or man for that matter. He does what does for the love of the animal and not for the dollar. His employees on the other hand are lacking in efficiency skills. I have always been use to the wait. When he moved to the new place and started taking appointments I was elated. My time is as valuable as anybodies, so waiting in a vet for four hours was always hard for me to swallow. When the time came for me to have my 16 year old dog put down, it devastated me. His hips had gone out and the last week of his life was spent being carried around and hand fed. Once I finally got myself at peace with putting him down, I called and made the appointment. I arrived promptly on time at 11:00. I understand that triage takes first priority, but to be honest, in the six hours that I sat there that day, not one single triage case came in. What did happen was a lot of people came in, some people left after only an hour or so, a lot sat in that room with me. About once every hour I would ask if they had any idea how long it was going to be. I was told every time, it will only be a few minutes more. Finally at about 4:45 a man came in with a dog that needed puppy shots. I know this because for the five minutes that he waited we talked. His pup was the same breed as mine. The difference in his approach and mine was that when he walked in, the lady at the counter greeted him as a friend. She asked him if they were still on for some event that night. I was only a customer, he must have had the inside track. He was there and gone in 15 minutes. This would be the point where I called a friend that worked at another vet to see if they could put my dog down. I then gave the lady at the counter a note to give Dr. Schmunk at his first opportunity saying that I needed to speak to him. When I spoke with him I informed him of what had happened and that I would not be coming back to his place of business. We have known each other for the last 20 years. He said that he understood. Instead of trying to persuade me to let his less than capable staff have another crack, he asked who I would be going to. When I told him I would be going to see his old partner he said that is who he would recommend, and to tell pete hey for him. Oh one thing that also needs to be mentioned. When he called me back, he did so from his cellphone. He was in his car on his way toward my house to put my dog down for me. When I told him it had been taken care of. He apologized, then called Pete personally the next day to give him the records on my other animals. For me it boils down to I love the Vet, but I cannot sacrifice my time for the inept abilities of his staff.

First of all, I think the one complaining indeed needs to find a new vet. It will not stop us from going to NDVH. Myself, I prefer only Dr. Schmunk and his team. I have always went to him and probably always will. In my opinion, he's the best. So what if you had to wait,I always have to wait, but I know before I go that I will have to wait. So what. And the staff were probably only trying to do their job with a very argumentative person. People need to take a look in the mirror at the one looking back. That is the problem.

If I could give them a lower rating I would.

I don??t know in what world it??s okay to keep a client waiting for more than an hour past their appointment time, but not mine!

Although they tried to explain the rationale behind their scheduling procedure, there's no excuse. It's inconsiderate of my time and it??s just plain greedy to try and stack up that many appointments in an hour.

On top of that, (most of) the staff was snotty and argumentative when I complained about waiting so long.

But the worst is the fact that they didn??t tell us critical information about the timing of our pet's medication regarding the test we were bringing her in for. In this incident, it was an inconvenience, but in other circumstances, it might have been deadly. Also, last time we went in, they couldn??t even find our pet's records.

Some folks may be willing to put up with this crap, but not us. We??re finding a new vet.

The devotion of Dr. Schmunk and his team is incredible. He has served his community well. No matter how busy he is if you lose a pet he takes time with you. His knowledge is extraordinary but his concern for all animals are exceptional. We love you and your family Dr. Schmunk and appreciate all you have done through the years. I don't know what our family would do without you.

A great, caring staff at excellent prices. From now on I will not trust my boxer's health to anyone else. I have found the prices to be much, much less than all other vet's offices that I have visited. Thank you Dr. Shmunk and staff!

The doctor and staff are very compassionate, we have been going there for years and Dr. Shmuck has helped my dogs get through some serious problems. This man is totally devoted he puts in hours and hours to care for as many animals as he can. I can reach him any day of the week and he will be kind and caring. The girls in the office are very nice and have helped us out many times with their support and comfort. Our boxers have a great vet with a great staff. The wait sometimes is a little long but it is well worth it for the excellent care that Dr. Shmuck provides.

We have had several visits now all with positive feedback. We were referred initially by a cat lover because of the low cost and now will not take our puppy anywhere else. The staff works deligently to make sure pets/owners needs are met and within a reasonable cost. Some services carry a significant savings over other places!

PROS: low prices, friendly staff, easy to find location
CONS: Monday AMs get busy quick -this is the day they setup procedure appointment

The vet hospital in top notch. The only problem that they have is that you have such a long wait. They are trying a new system trying to get people in quickier but it is still to new to tell if it is working. The vet and his staff are friendly and helpful. The price are very reasonable.

My momma cat got hit by a car and managed to come back home but she was in really bad shape. We took her to North Davidson Veterinary Hospital they said they would do what they could for her. They did not know if she would make it but they worked on her and in 4 days she was able to come home. They had to remove part of her jaw and wire her mouth back in place but she is doing great now. They are a great bunch of people and they love all of the animals that they see.

Dr. Shmuck and his entire staff care about every animal brought through the doors. They provide the best care available for your pets and the prices are so low it is unreal. You can expect to pay 1/2 to 2/3rds more at any other vet in the area. And the customer relations is 50% worse. You may have to wait awhile when you come in but it is well worth the wait.

PROS: Best vet in Piedmont Triad area
CONS: Long wait, but well worth it

I love North Davidson Veterinary Hospital. The prices are much more competetive than other vets I've been to. They also really seem to care about the well being of your pet and not just making a buck. I've had others where if you didn't have all the money to help your animal then that was too bad, no service. But not here, they will work with you to make sure your animal is okay.

North Davidson has a wondeful service to the community with prices much more reasonable than many veterinary offices. Dr.Schmunk is a great vet, very nice, very knowledgeable, and always willing to help. The office is usually busy, and you may have to wait in order to get in, ut that is the only down side to NDVH. I would not trust my dogs' health to anyone else!
