What a joy to find a REAL pet store! While visiting Fayetteville (I live 1.25 hour from this city) I visited two other pet stores. Neither compared to this place. My interest is tropical fish, and the selection and quality was superb! The staff was accomodating and helpful. If you're looking for the scrubbed-clean polished chain, this may not be the place for you. If you're looking for a family-owned business that has successfully met the needs of the Fayetteville community for 40 years and shows real concern for the customer and the pets purchased there, THIS IS THE PLACE!!!

Just wanted to say as I forgot to write it in my review just now..The tattooed gentleman and the older gentleman (possibly the owner?) were very polite and greeted me well.

Again, I can't comment on anything else except the reptiles for that??s all I work with. I wanted to say something to them but these guys have been in business for many years it seems so I doubt I would have informed them of anything they didn't notice as they go through their daily maintenance of their stock. I deduce it to they either don??t care or have a level of fear of handling these snakes and that??s why they seem neglected i.e. mouth rot in one Nicaraguan boa and nose rubs in three Colombian type boas at their facility from what I recall.

This place is a real pet store. In a day and age where the huge pet stores are so deeply lacking any sense of personality or degree of uniqueness I think it is really beautiful to see a family owned business surviving and providing a real service to the community.

The people that work there aren't necessarily the most friendly bunch, but they aren't in the business of "friendly", they're in the business of pets and they seem to do that very well. When you get a smile out of them it seems genuine and I can appreciate that.

I just hope we don't get so stuck up as a society that these small family owned shops all disappear before my son is old enough to appreciate what a place like Aqua-Rama has to offer.

Stop complaining that a pet store smells like pets. That the guy who owns the place isn't always nice to you if you come in acting like an ass. Be thankful that you can still stumble across a real family run business in a sea of corporate bullsh!t and give these guys the support they deserve.

It is obvious these people care about animals. The place is very clean, the animals appear happy. I had read bad reviews, but think they must be from competitors because there is NO WAY this business could have been filthy. If it had been

Inresponse to Jennifer's review about breast feeding and changing diapers and my kids need to go to school.
We have 8 kids 1 just graduated with honors and is attending state this fall the other 6 are grown graduated from college some are self employed or managers in elite fields the youngest is in middle school and will follow the rest in education. Non of my Daaughters have ever breest feed theirs. If any of my customers want to breast feed their babies in my store they are more than welcome too!! As a women I dodn't see where that is such a bad thing to you. Most likely your affended because you aren't a mother or you don't have tata's enough to feed yours. As far as diaper changing Iam not Walmart with a large restroom and changing table and if a customer wants to use my counter to care for their child so be it. I guess if you had an infant in public that needed changing it would stay in a soiled diaper and be ate up with diaper rash and hungry because you wouldn't feed or change the infant in public. Well I applaud the customeer that was carring for her child in my store she must be a good mother who puts her chils first.

My girlfriend and i hav been going to this pet store for 5 yrs. now. we mostly purchase fish from there and hav never had a sick fish. It's a real pet shop. our favorite. the employees of the pet shop are always helpful in answering our questions and knowledgable about the fish they sell. even hearing the negative comments will not keep us from doing business with them. in fact i thought those bad reviews were absurd. bunch of liers if you ask me. great pet shop keep up the good work.

I bought a few things in there and also a puppy that was left alone in those cages. I had to buy her. I have never had a problem in there with any of the animals, we have alway been treated with respect not like idiots. Yes, it is not the cleanest place to go to plus they smoke in there, I am a smoker yet I don't think it is professional to smoke at a life animal place. In every place that you can buy fish birds or whatever you want you will take the chance of getting a sick one. I have bought fish at Walmart, Petsmart, Pet supermarket and hav had them die on me as well. Don't blame it on the owners. I like this place, I will coninue to go there. I wish they would find a better and bigger location though.

This place is nasty... So are the people working there... I have been there a few time and did buy a few animal, but never again. I went in one day a my wife saw a cute little dog that we just had to rescue. Took it too our vet and the poor thing had several different types of worms and was covered in flees... The two times that I did buy fish from them, both were dead before I could even aclimate them to my tank. I have been keeping salt water reef tanks for well over 10 years now, so know a little about it. The last time that I went in, I asked if they had a digital hydrometer and I was told by this little blond b!+<= (the young one, not the old one) that all they had was the standars one that you dip in the tank... All I said back was that I would rather have the digital one because they were a little moor acurate. Then this little girl went off on me, telling me that they have been using them for over 20 years and I did not know what I was talking about. I was suprised that they had been open that long and then I took my money somewhere else. I am discusted with this place. To treat the animals the way they do, they should be closed down. I think the only reason that they have good review is because the little blond or some one else that works there is posting them. If you go there, buyer be ware. Then tell them what you think they are doing wrong and go some where else. Make sure you wash your hands when you leave

I LOVE Aqua-Rama. It's looks tiny from the outside but you walk inside and it's a mini zoo. This store has everything from a nurse shark to puppies and puts places like Pet Smart to shame. The employees really know and care about the animals.

My absolute favorite section are the birds. The big red one is hilarious and all the birds are in great shape and very friendly.

All these bad reviews are bogus. The place is going to smell funny, it's a pet store. And anybody who complains about it being unclean needs to honestly think about that statement. No tank is going to be completely spotless and animals are gonna make a mess in their cages throughout the day. The animals are taken care of way better here than in most of these people's own homes.

PLEASE do not avoid this shop because people want to make accusations. Go in and check it out for yourself because I promise you will fall in love with this place.

I love this store. They KNOW everything about animals, and fish and turtles and reptiles and parrots. And if they do not know they do research to get the answers and call back within the week with all the information. You enter the store by walking over a bridge over a pond FULL of turtles and an alligator. The little kids think it is the most magical zoo to visit. Talking Birds, and puppies and a maze of halls and halls and halls of tanks. Great place. I understand it is 3 or 4 generations family owned and operated. Take the kids. They will never forget the experience.

The owner needs his daughter to write an review for him? Puh~LEASE...

I will admit that I made a mistake and inserted the WRONG LINK here earlier. I've removed it. I'm sorry.

Here is the pertinent link:
http://www.ncagr.gov/vet/aws/Inspections/Cumberland_County/documents/cumberlandaquaramapetcenter06-16-08.pdf

In this copy of the NC Department of Agriculture Inspection Report, the topic is a pup purchased from Aquarama that was PUT TO SLEEP because it became deathly ill with Parvovirus.

The normal incubation period (time from exposure to the virus to the time when signs of disease appear) is from 7-14 days. Virus can be found in the feces several days before clinical signs of disease appear, and may last for one to two weeks after the onset of the disease.

Be VERY CAREFUL when purchasing live animals from pet shops and also from "backyard breeders" (aka hobby breeders). DEMAND to see your animal vaccinated; don't just take anyone's word for it...

Let me start off by saying that I am the owners daughter....and most of you have no idea what you are talking about let alone the mental capacity to have an opinion or animals for that matter!! My father has dedicated his ENTIRE life to animals and their well-being. If the pet shop STINKs...its because there are hundreds of animals in one building...idiots....the Zoo is outside and it stinks too!! To the person that said the fish have ICK....if they did....my father would not sell them to you!! He would never knowingly sell a sick animal or fish to anyone!! If your pet got sick, perhaps you dont know how to take care of them, and you shouldnt own one in the first place!! Also, my dad would never pay someone to write a positive review because he doesnt care what you think...or about your opinions!! He knows that he is honest and up front about everything he does and sells. The problem is with people that think they know everything are made to feel quite stupid when he blatently tells them they are wrong!! My father has owned and operated a pet shop for over 30 years.....Im not a genius or anything, but I would say thats a pretty decent accomplishment!! I mean...realistically..if he were that horrible, or wasnt taking care of his animals....could he have made a living off of this for so long?? Really people...get a life!! Read a book or two...and think hard and long before deciding to own a pet or writing a review!! If you have any doubts....dont buy one.....they are better off without you "trying" to take care of them!!

Aqua Rama sold me a sick dog that is currently in the animal hospital suffering from Parvo. The owner is VERY rude and inconsiderate. After learning that our puppy (that we had bought five days prior) was sick, we went back into the shop to let him know that Parvo could be lingering within the other kennels and dogs and that he might consider disinfecting and have the other puppies tested.

He yelled at my husband and I and told us that we were liars and so was our vet. There was no way parvo was in his facility. He then called my husband and harrassed him until we decided to get the Department of Agriculture involved.

The woman who has performed licensing investigations there for the past few years says this place is not a good place to deal with and the owner Joe is untrustworthy and rude.

I IMPLORE YOU TO BUY A DOG ANYWHERE BUT HERE.

If anybody has anything bad to say about this petshop, it's only because the owner didn't do what they wanted them to. I have been coming here for almost 20 years. These people work hard taking care of their animals. This is a family ran business they do everything theirselves, so I understand walking in on a family spat about the business (blonde is not an employee). These people don't work for a big company so they are not gonna put up with unruly customers, and I understand. You need to be sure you want a pet before you buy one. Don't try and slander this families source of income for your personal reasons. This the best petshop in Fayetteville handsdown.
By the way every petshop in the world has dead fish, including mine. If you visit a shop and there are no dead fish, it's only becuase they took them out before you got there.

How is this place still open?? Talk about crackheads!! If you go to this place be sure to take a deep breath before walking in, i also believe anyone who wrote a good review about this place prolly works for the dickhead owner or was paid to..There is no way anyone could think this is a nice place, they are always smoking and then ashing into the water near the front where the goldfish are half of the fish are dead floating and i would be surprised if the mice they sell were found just running around the store..they will tell you anything to make some money i mean anything..and by all means dont feel free to ask the owner any questions he is one of the most unhappy people i have ever seen. I will never ever give these people my money and the only reason anyone prolly does is bc there isnt any other stores... SOMEONE CLOSE THIS PLACE DOWN it looks like something you see on 20/20 when they find 12 year old hookers!!!!!DONT GO

I have been in Aqua-Rama RECENTLY & did NOT experience any of the negative things I have seen posted here about this store! The terrariums, aquariums & cages are clean & VERY well kept! They have signs CLEARLY posted that say you should make sure you are purchasing THE pet you want, as there are NO refunds or credits! I buy my ball pythons' mice from them, I also buy my fish there & I have even bought pets for family members as well! I know people that drive over an hour to shop with this pet store! Oh, I almost forgot...I use the same vet they use & well, I have yet to hear ANY horror stories about the pets they sell! =/ I love my pets =) & would not buy junk for them! I absolutely love the help that we get from Diane & her husband & their children! =D
I don't care for the large chain stores at all. This store is great! They are a small family owned business & they will have my business as long as we are around! Oh, did I mention that they also offer a Military Discount...unlike the large chains? And if the Military relocates us, they can even ship my babies (including the fish) to where we are going!!
Please keep up the great work!

I have been going to this shop for years the owner is not very pleasant, but he has a few other employees who are nice and helpful. I went in today to ask some questions about feeding my snake, and the only one available was the owner, but instead of being patient and helpful he was rude and mean. so while near the back of the store where the very nasty wet and stinky mice are kept I said he was acting like an ass. (which was true) while i was leaving he got a very loud mean and high tone at me in front of all the customers there. not only was he unprofessional he was almost yelling at me, a very long time customer. I am 30 something years old and I remember my mom taking us there as kids. The store is pretty nasty but it is a pet shop. I wouldn't recommend buying mice there or any of there rodents never would have but now i definitely wouldn't ever recommend it for anyone, for anything!

I am 30 something years old and I remember my mom taking us there as kids. The store is pretty nasty but it is a pet shop. I wouldn't recommend buying mice there or any of there rodents never would have but now i definitely wouldn't ever recommend it for anyone, for anything!

This establishment does not know what customer service is. What pet store does not offer store credit on fish that you don't want? Especially when you bought it from them. Petting zoo, Are you serious? The animals are sick You can take your kid in there if you want. Tanks are disgusting and have the ick and cyano bacteria like it's cool. Check http://redtailboa.net/ the story goes back to 2002. Someone PLEASE close this place and save the animals. Oh and that shark or any shark is ....well too big for a 60 gallon tank. Get out of our hobby!

My husband and I took our daughter there today to look at fish for an aquarium we just bought. She loved it! Especially being able to feed the fish and turtles under the bridge. So cool :) Very friendly staff and healthy looking pets. Great place!

This place sells sick animals. I have personally bought a zebra finch from there that had deformed legs. I work at a vet clinic in Fayetteville and so far we have had atleast 4 clients I know of that have bought sick animals. Two clients had to put the animals to sleep. A kitten was sold FIV pos and a puppy with parvo.

I love this pet shop! There is no other pet shop in town that has their selection of exotic pets. Aqua rama is a great place to bring the kids because there are so many animals to look at, from your every day kittens and bunnies to baby aligators and huge pythons! They have wide variety of fish as well. The staff is very knowledgeable about all their animals and they are happy to answer your questions.

I went into Aqua-Rama pet shop and it was awesome! As soon as you enter you go over a bridge and underneath it there are fish, turtles, and sometimes baby alligators/crocodiles! There are giant tortoise and exotic animals. You can find a bunny or a seahorse for sale here! You may ask to hold anything you dare touch and the staff is so friendly. It is like visiting a petting zoo each time I go!

PROS: exotic pets
CONS: strong odor of bleach throughout store
