I've followed Laura from her last salon to Syd's and I still love it. It's a comfortable, funky setting with friendly people. It's very laid back but still professional.

I just wanted to take the time to say that Amy Testerman is the best hairstylist I have ever had in my 30 years. She is friendly and always wants to know exactly what I want from the experience, and then does her best to make my hair look just right. I have come in with no idea what I wanted and just let her go at it, and she comes up with the cutest cuts. I trust her so much that Amy will be doing my hair for my wedding this May. I have recommended her to several friends, all of whom are now regular clients. Amy is an asset to Syds.

You will be able to achieve a good hair day if you get your hair done here. They do not accept walk ins, but they do well with accommodating their clientele. I think for a hair cut at a private salon that is not a chain, it is very fair and reasonable. You can ask for whatever you want and they will be honest with their advice.

Syd's has a very laid back atmosphere- a nice blend of urban chic and Carrboro-like 'crunchiness' (organic, down-to-earth-ness, that is). I am not someone who likes to pay $50+ for a haircut, so the fact that an haircut averages $25 was a big plus for me. I also didn't have a very clear idea of what I wanted, just what I didn't want, and the stylist was very helpful and attentive. When so many stylists just go on a whim and do whatever they want with your head, it was wonderful to have someone be so attuned to my wants. And I was thrilled!

PROS: nice prices and nice people
CONS: You do have to drive down Franklin St.

I've been getting my hair cut at Syd's for a few years now. I have yet to get a bad hair cut. They listen to my hair expectations and never fail to deliver the low maintenance look i want. My only complaint is the new appointments only format, I used to really love just walking in whenever i had the urge to trim the curls...
