Ratings_icons Carolina Back Institute is not worth the money for the attitude!

Ariel H.

If you are looking for zero sympathy, slow results, and slow turnaround time with a rude nursing staff this is your place. I understand that some patients act like they have issues to receive certain meds, but treating everyone as though this is the case is what you can expect. No regard for your personal well being at all. It is definitely a money making machine. How do I make money, push them in and pull them out.

Ratings_icons Carolina Back Institute is what they say they are!

Nick H.

Carolina Back Institute does what they say they will do. They pursue non-surgical solutions to back, neck, and muscle pain. If you want surgery, go to a surgeon. If you go to a surgeon, expect surgery. When the only tool you have is a hammer, it's funny how everything starts to look like a nail. Personally, I think very few people actually need back surgery and many aren't any better off afterwards. I would avoid back surgery at all costs.

I could barely walk earlier this year because my back hurt so bad. After a toradol injection, a couple weeks of pain meds and muscle relaxers and 4 weeks of physical therapy I was as good as new. I have kept up with exercises the physical therapist showed me and haven't had any more problems. At 51 I'm still playing basketball 2-3 times a week and riding my mountain bike all over Umstead Park and the Black Creek Greenway. Thanks Carolina Back Institute.

Ratings_icons Treats their Chronic Pain & Fibromyalgia patients like Drug Addicts

Ashley A.

Im a mom of 2 and a nurse. I went to see Dr. Singh at first all was great he dx'd me with Fibromyalgia. I had 2 MRI's, trigger point inj, Facet block which hurt more than it helped, lab work, and x-rays. I tried every medication he wanted me to for at least 3 weeks before reporting any side effects. He has since put me on Vicodin, I have been on and off pain meds since I was 16 for various medical issues, so Im on Vicodin for about6-9 months, and he adjusts the dose, after I have to go in and pay $ 50.00 copay for a 5 min appt. I started back to work this month also and 2 days after my appt I called his office and asked for a call back regarding my meds, well his NURSE calls me and says he called me in a muscle relaxer, OK so I take it and LIGHTS OUT!! NO HELP FOR DAY TIME PAIN RELIEF!! So I call AGAIN ask for DR. SINGH to call me NOPE he refers me to a doc in Chapel Hill who doesnt take insurance at all, them he refers me to a Neuro doc who tells me I have Multiple Sclerosis, and Narcolepsy, all this she knows by her 10 min appt, So the I call Dr. Singh AGAIN his nurse calls me he wants me to see an Acupuncture doc NOPE cant afford it $$. So now im PISSED OFF and in ALOT of pain and stressed out and emotional. So after me having to ASK to be referred to REX Pain Center(duh), I ask for a different kind of medicine to help my pain due to the Vicodin not helping b/c my body has built up a tolerance for it, just like antibiotics thats why docs dont give you antibiotics 4 everything!! Then his office HAS THE NERVE to treat me like a DRUG ADDICT. If I was an addict I could get much much better opiods on the street than what we could give me. I was told I would have to AGAIN come in$$$$ and then I would have to do a Piss test Drug screen!!???? I fliped out!! Why would this so called DOCTOR dx me with Fibromyalgia, and then sayd he would help me until I could get into a person with much more knowledge about it, and then treat me like a darn druggie????? I am sorry that is CRAPY for a Doctor to not care about his patients, and he's not that damn busy he cant pick up the phone for 10 min. what does air time apply am I charged $$ for that. One doc I talked to from there on Friday after hours after 3 wks of Dr. Singh/nurses calling me. He told me if I needed meds to go the ER!!!??? I even faxed in info about Fibro, and doctors, treatments, and medications for Fibro, and why some docs are unwilling to give the needed meds. That's all understandable, but DONT GIVE ME A NARCOTIC, THEN STOP IT ABRUPTLY(by the way it says not to do that) AND THEN TREAT ME LIKE A DRUG ADDICT. THIS PLACE SUCKS IN MY OPINION AND I PLAN TO SEE ABOUT FILING A COMPLAINT WITH THE MEDICAL BOARD

Ratings_icons EXCELLENT PATIENT CARE!

Sara J.

I have had migraine headaches for about 10 years now. I have not been able to find relief for my migraines until I came to the Carolina Back Institute. There I saw Dr. Godbout which has treated me for my migraines. My occurrences of headaches have now decreased exponentially. Dr. Godbout and all the staff have been very efficient, kind, friendly, and wiling to help in anyway they can. It is an EXCELLENT practice and would recommend it to anyone!

Ratings_icons Amazing!

I have suffered from neck and shoulder pain for years. I had a lot of knots in my neck and in between my shoulder blades and the area was very sore to the touch. I went to Carolina Back Institute and the doctor gave me trigger point injections. That was over a year ago and the pain has not come back! I highly recommend Carolina Back Institute to anyone w/ back or neck pain. They are amazing!

I've been going to CBI for migraine and neck pain treatment. The two doctors I have seen have been very professional and helpful. They have worked to find the source of my pain and have offered me treatment options. I've been going to physical therapy which has been beneficial. I'd also recommend Michelle the masseuse.

Ratings_icons Do Not Go To Carolina Back Institute of Cary, North Carolina

Tim E.

My wife was seen at this place. They gave her a shot in her back , next to the spine and nerve. Told her to come back in two weeks for another. Mind you, these shots are over a $1000.00 each time. They wanted her to have physical therapy to help her. They even had a MRI of her back that they requested her to have. They prescribe pain meds, mind you, you have to sign a form only for them to prescribe pain medication. The pain meds are only prescribed for one week, co-pay each time.

Needless to say, my wife and I went to see Dr. Tim Garner in Raleigh and he took one look at the MRI taken and scheduled surgery for five(5) days later.

Carolina Back Institute of Cary...is not at all recommended by me or my wife.

Cortisone shots are priced that way because they are injected with an xray to ensure the Dr does not hit something and cause paralysis. The DOCTORS at Carolina back saw something on me that Dr.Lacin (Raleigh Center for Neurosurgery and Sciences) neglected to look at or take any time to deal with- disk disease! It was clear on both an xray and MRI that Lacin had. Carolina back caught it, not Lacin.

Ratings_icons Highway Robbery. Complain to ncmedboard.org - I did

My father has had pain in his sacrum/low back for years and finally went to the Back Institute for help. They did an MRI and gave him two steroid (cortisone?) shots, one on each side of the sacrum, over three visits (=6 shots total). They labeled the shots "surgery" and billed Medicare over $7,300.00 for them, not including the bill for the first visit, the MRI, and the visit to review the MRI. Cortisone shots typically cost no more than $100, not to mention they only last several months at best. Dr. Catherine A. Duncan, who was the physician my father saw, barely spent ten minutes (the medical norm nowadays), always seemed in a hurry, and didn't want to answer any questions. Another friend of mine, a family physician and his wife, went to Dr. Duncan for prolotherapy shots for tendonitis. While the shots worked great, she charged $250 per shot. The family physician did some research and found that one vial of prolotherapy solution (which contains several shots' worth) only cost $35!

Ratings_icons Just Awful

Carolina back institute is a business not a place to get sincere help. My fiance has back mid/ upper back pain. They insisted that he get an MRI. It was inconclusive they reported. No surprise to them I'm sure. After doing research we discovered that in only 1% of cases can an MRI produce accurate results for upper back pain! Also he needed a refill and they insisted that he come in. He asked if he could talk to the doctor over the phone because of his new job he is unable to get time off. They said no. He explained that he was out of medicine and they offered no advice besides to make an appointment. Well, this morning when he woke up he was shaking, cold, sweating, and very dizzy. I looked up the medication and there were warnings to not stop medicine abruptly because there would be withdrawal problems. You can bet that the Carolina back institute didn't even warn him of the sickness that he would be facing. What a great second day on the new job, in pain and sick!!Thank you Carolina Back Institute!

Ratings_icons Just a Bad Experience

Anonymous

Worst experience possible. Got escorted from exam room in my exam gown to the x-ray area, passing by other people, and even by windows shared with the reception area. When I called back to get my results the receptionist put me through the triage nurse; of course no one answers the phone there, got to leave a message, which never bothered to return back. Even my dog gets a better treatment from his vet. This clinic is more business focused than it is patient focused. My condition is severe enough that I needed treatment; however no doctor called me back to check on me or give me my results. Very poor medical practice. Grade: F---

This institute is very well run from the front desk to the doctors office as well as the physical theraphy area. Caring and very professional people as well as knowledgable. They request tests be done only when necessary. It is a wonderful place to learn how to get back into shape after accidents or just the aging process. I see them as helping older people as well as younger ones. The institute itself is very clean.
