This is NOT the place you want to go for anything. I went to have my first infusion of Reclast and was told this would take an hour (a minimum of 20 minutes for the infusion and instructions on what to do to help the Reclast do its job). I took a friend with me for moral support. I arrived 15 minutes early and had filled out all the paperwork pertaining to my medical history, medicine I was taking, allergies, etc. It was not until 20 minutes after my appointment time that I was called back (the incorrectly pronounced my name, which is not a difficult name, Carla, they called Clara). When I my friend and I got to the door, the nurse said my friend could not go back because there wasnt enough room for her and the PA and the nurse, she said there was not enough seats in the room. I asked her couldnt they just move another chair into the room and she then proceeded to throw up her hands and walk away. That should have been an indication for me to walk out of that office but stupid me, did not. My friend and I followed her into a room that was large enough for 10+ people and had 2 chairs and a rolling stool (duh, enough for 3 people). She was overly dramatic as to where my friend was to sit but we took it in stride, biting our tongues the whole time. There were 2 nurses (one was training, I think. I was never told why the second nurse was therejust an assumption on my part that she was training) with the first rude nurse starting the IV. She missed the vein in my arm the first time so she went to the back of the hand and found a vein. I was a little concerned about how she had it taped because it didnt look secure enough but I figured she had done this enough she should know what she was doing (boy, was I wrong!!!). When the PA came in to start the infusion, she started it and it was going in quickly (which you are NOT suppose to do with this medicineit should go in slowly, over a minimum of 20 minutes, no faster or it can overwhelm and damage the kidneys). After 5 minutes, half the bottle was gone.WAY too fast. She realized this and slowed it down. I listened and asked what I thought were appropriate questions but half-way through our conversation, the PA got snippy with me. I realized that all that paperwork I had filled out and the fax that she received from my doctors office had not been read. She had no idea who I was or the reason I was there, other than to get the infusion. She then proceeded to be condescending to me, which I again tolerated but only because I had an IV in my hand. After 20 minutes, the infusion was close to being complete, the bottle was empty and all of the medicine had made its way into the line of the IV. At that point, the IV in my hand came out and blood and liquid was all over the place. The training nurse and the PA were in the room and the nurse was the only one to jump to action. The PA had an expression on her face of not my job. After cleaning up me and everything around me, I was told I could go. This place is a joke. The employees do not care about you. Run the other way if your doctor recommends this place.

I contacted Carolina Back Institute on November 5th. They got me in right away and the receptionist was very understanding and friendly. November 6th I met with Neema Patel NP and she was very professional, friendly and understanding. She went over all of my options for pain relief clearly and thoroughly. I felt so good that I was finally getting someone to listen and help after spending a year going to different Orthopedic doctors, Neurologists, and even Duke Spine Center. I felt as if a great burden had been lifted from my shoulders. I returned later that day for Facet Joint Injections with Dr. Baht. Again, I felt as though I was finally going to get my life back and be pain free so I can finally get some sleep. The procedure was very painful. I explained to Dr. Baht, I initially turned down pain medicine but felt I needed something to take the edge off after the procedure. He wrote me a prescription to try. He advised me to call back the next morning if it doesn't have any effect. He also explained it may be 7-10 days before the Injections kick in. I went home and took one of the pills. It did nothing. I tried every 4 - 6 hours instead of every 8 hours because it wasn't effective. On November 7th at 8am, I called the triage nurse (Joanne) and left a message explaining the situation. I was at work when I made the call. Sitting causes pain and I rotate standing and sitting throughout the day but the pain is around the area the needles were inserted. She did not call back. I drove to Carolina Back Institute at 9am to meet with the rep for a Tens unit. At that time, I left a message at the front desk for Joanne. She peeked her head in on the meeting and asked that I stay to speak with her right after. I did not expect anything out of the ordinary. Once I was done, the front desk contacted Joanne to let her know I was waiting. Joanne approached me and began to ask the normal questions regarding pain level, meds currently taking, relief from the injections. I explained my pain was at a 10 and she looked at me and giggled stating that if I was at a 10 I would be in the hospital. She very rudely said, "well if you get something else, you need to bring your current medicine back first." Mind you, I am in pain listening to this crap. I felt extremely insulted. Sometimes it's not what you say but how you say it that can cause tension. She acted as though she did not believe what I was saying to her and it showed in her expression and statements. I explained the prescribed medication was not effective for the pain, it only made me sleepy. She went on to say anything stronger will make you more drowsy. When you are in pain you don't care about the drowsiness just want to be free from pain. Once we were done, Joanne said she would pass the message on to Dr. Baht and give me a call when my prescription was ready. I was told the doctors only write prescriptions during lunch. That sounded odd. I returned to work to await her call or direction. It's past 2pm and I still haven't heard from Joanne. I placed a call to the Cary office to find out what was going on or what my next step was. She explained that Dr. Baht said I need to give the injections time to work (7-10 days) and the current prescription causes the least drowsiness(which was never the problem). I have been at work all day with nothing because I didn't take any of the current meds so I wouldn't be mixing the drugs. She never made an effort to communicate that to me earlier in the day so I could decide what my next steps would need to be. Joanne was on the phone arguing with me after I have been hurting all day at work. That was the most embarrassing incident I have ever encountered on my job. I could not believe what was happening. She told me to call the North Raleigh office and speak to the triage nurse there. I find out later, she is the triage nurse for both facilities, Cary and N. Raleigh. I reached out to Shane at the N. Raleigh office. He got on the phone right away and the Clinical Manager was calling me before I could get back to my seat. He was very understanding and apologetic about my experience that day. I spoke with Laura Hamilton. She listened and took action. However, being so frustated and in pain, I was rude to her. I did apologize for that. She was very nice and understanding. She explained to me that I could take 2 pills every 6-8 hours along with Ibuprofen or Aleve, reminded me to use ice and heat, and advised me to call on Monday to update her or Shane on how things were going. Dr. Baht still would not give me anything stating "it will make me drowsy." Who cares about drowsiness when they are in pain? Had Joanne took the time to suggest other things I could do, I would have gladly accepted. She overlooked me completely the entire day. Because of the experience with Joanne, I will be cancelling all future appointments and not returning to the facility.

This is the worst medical facility I have ever dealt with. My provider told me a procedure would cost somewhere between $150 and $180 then I got a bill for $930! They are refusing to take any responsibility for THEIR mistake and will not return calls. They even told me it is against policy for the provider to have given me this information, yet she did it anyway and I had to be penalized for it. Unfair and very deceptive.

I'm a bit frustrated with this group's processes. The treatments and care they give are fine but there is one area that is beyond frustrating.\r

I was very unsatisfied with the treatment I was provided and with the way I was treated. I NEVER saw an actual doctor, only a PA. I was told that I needed to have corticosteroid injections and that would help my chronic sciatica that I had been dealing with on and off for 10 years. I agreed hoping this would help. After going through 6 rounds of this with the injections only helping for about 3-4days. I was finally at the point that I was in so much pain that I could not even walk. I made an appointment and had to be brought in by wheelchair. I was working 12 hour shifts and on my feet all day so I brought fmla paperwork to be filled out. The PA wrote that I was able to work, even though I was in so much pain that I couldn't even walk! I lost my job because of this place. I never asked for any drugs, did all the PT they asked me to do, and I was told that because I did not go to see a therapist to discuss depression they would not help me anymore. I am in pain! Not depressed! It seems to me that they are only after getting big expensive procedures done and not caring about getting patients better!

I am sad to read and have to agree with the many negative reviews of Carolina Back Institute and Dr Duncan but unfortunately I too had what I consider substandard care and treatment the one time and last time went to this clinic for help with injuries from an accident. Infact what made it worse is I traveled a long distance rented a hotel to come all the way to this clinic for a special treatment called prolotherapy and was so encouraged about getting help thru this treatment. However after driving almost 8 hours spending money on a hotel when I came for my appointment , first I ended up waiting several hours because they were backed up and lunch time came and I was told I would have to wait until lunch was over so the dr would have quality time with me and be able to consult and treat me as well because I came so far. So I waited until lunch was over and then some. About 3 hours after my scheduled appointment I finally was taken in to see dr duncan of which I was promised the wait was so she could have quality time with me. But when she came in she was cold somew what rude had no compassion or bed side manner and told me I had to many problems for her to treat that day when it was so late. And I said but I got here this morning and waited all day because your staff said you needed me to wait so you could spend quality time with me and treat me because I came such a far distance. And instead of accomodating me dr duncan accused me of being the reason for the delay and said I was late which was totally back wards and I was on time and she was late 3 hours late in seeing me to be exact. Next she did not even exam me and said the only treatment she could do at such a late hour was one area so for me to pick which area was the most painful and giving me the most problem and that is all she could treat with prolotherapy. I had no choice and asked her to treat my knees and upon doing the treatment I was shocked as many year prior I had got prolotherapy due to another problem and knew what it was and what she did to my knees was in no way prolotherapy. Protherapy is a series of injections using a dexstose lidocaine or procaine based solution into the attachements(fibrous osessous junction)where ligments connect. You have to treat the whole area for it to work properly and for a knee at least 8 to even as many as 15 injections both on the inside and outside of the knee plus in the joint is the norm.

DR Duncan gave me 1 injection for each knee did not even treat one whole ligament or go inside my joint when m joint was the biggest problem on the left knee especially. She just gave me a little injection in the inside of both knees and said she was done and left the room. That was it and then she charged me $400 for this prolotherapy for 2 injections plus she charged a consult fee.

I was shocked and upon speaking with other expert prolotherapy clinics and drs was told I was absolutely correct and 1 injection per knee is defintely not prolotherapy or at least not efective complete prolotherapy and then to charge $400 for this was outrageous. I knew this and am still trying to dispute it with out success or any contact from this clinic re the improper treatment, lack of quality time or worse lack of even hardly any time spent with me, not performing true prlotherapy yet charging me for it on both knees and the dr using my being late as an excuse for her being rushed and having limited time when it was her who was late seeing me not me being late.I should not have been charged at all because she did nothing for me except what everyone else in these reviews say which is charge outrageous charges for substandard care. I would not reccomend this dr to anyone and if anyone is looking for dr who performs prolotherapy I would suggest finding another dr as dr duncan is not doing prolotherapy the way it should be done.

Doctor Christopher Godbout was exceptional and did a tremendous job in taking care of my medical needs. I understand now that he is leaving the practice and moving out west. Because of that, I plan on leaving and finding another pain management practice to take care of me. The billing department is terrible. I have paid every time I have gone in for an appointment. A couple of times I didn't have the money but sent it in right away. Then, all of a sudden, billing tells me I owe them over $200 and tells me to prove that I don't. They also wouldn't let me schedule another appointment to be seen until I get the matter cleared up. I will be looking for another doctor.

I saw Dr. Duncan. She was short and rude to me. She asked about my pain. I told her it was difficult to bend because of the pain. She asked me to bend and touch my toes. I did and she rudely said, "I thought you couldn't bend." Geez, I said it hurt to bend, not that I couldn't do it. She barely examined me and told me to get injections which my insurance didn't cover much of so I couldn't afford at that time. I got the impression they did not care about finding out what was wrong with me, just about getting money for injections. I had a really negative feeling about how rude she was and how little time she spent examining me and how quick she was to get out the door, so I never went back. I would strongly suggest, with all these other negative reviews as well, people, please find another office to go see. There are lots of doctors that will take time with you and want to see you get better - who don't just push injections - find one! I wish all you fellow pain sufferers, good luck! I had a spinal fusion and it helped a lot, now I am dealing with SI joint pain but hope to find a good doctor to deal with that too. If anyone has a suggestion, let me know!

I have been a patient at Carolina Back Institute for 10 years now and I have been NOTHING but pleased! Before, I had horrible back and leg pain but after just one visit to CBI I felt like I could run a marathon! Turns out I had a more serious problem, that luckily didn't require surgery. The doctors and the PA's are so informative and, unlike other practices I've been to, actually spend the time to talk with their patients and make sure they understand what is going on. The front desk staff and the nurses are phenomenal! They are all so friendly! Back pain is a serious problem and I would HIGHLY recommend going to Carolina Back if you are serious about helping yourself. I have been late to appointments in the past and have gotten seen by either another provider or at a different time. Carolina Back Institute has helped me live my life and they can help you, too!

It was my first appt. and because of a train and getting lost i was 12 min. late to my appt. I had all my paperwork filled out ahead of time. The receptionist said she had to check with the P.A, to see if I would have to reschedule (without even asking why I was late). Apparently the P.A. said I would have to reschedule. I had been in pain for months and finally had both the money and the day off to see someone about the pain, yet they couldn't be bothered... 12 minutes late - the P.A. probably decided to use the extra time to have breakfast or enjoy a cup of coffee. I told the receptionist instead of rescheduling I would find somewhere else where the patient is valued more - and did so. Not a great way to start a "trusted" professional relationship,

I would have written a good review 60 days ago, but things have changed and you may want to understand that what happened to me, could happen to you as well.
I was a patient of CBI for 13 years, it took years for them to convince me that pain meds were the only way to maintain any quality of life. Only 60 days ago, when I called in for my meds refill, I was informed that I was no longer a patient at CBI. I understand that they were frustrated with my insurance co, but to drop a patient with 2 days of pain meds with no way to get a refill is unacceptable. I was not dropped due to anything I did, it was strictly due to lack of income for CBI.
When I sat across from Dr Duncan at my last appointment, she never indicated that there was an issue. No notice, no recourse, just a kiss off.
I went through withdraw alone without any medical assistance. I will never take pain medications again, nor will I ever rely on a doctor again as I did Dr Duncan. If any of you are relying on medications through CBI.... just know that this could happen to you.
NO, I never abused my meds. I only missed 1 appointment, cancel but rescheduled a few appointments, did whatever I was instructed by Dr Duncan. Freely took drug screening every time requested. So if that is what you are thinking you are dead wrong.....
Thank God, I now have a wonderful caring physician that is willing to do whatever it takes to help me without pain medications. If any of you need a wonderful caring physician, email me at ncminpinrescue at yahoo dot com.
It is actions such as those by Dr Duncan that can make a responsible person turn to illegal drugs. I was lucky to have family support through this most horrible period in my life.... not everyone is that lucky.
BTW... those of you on pain medications with CBI... IF this happens to you, please file a complaint at NC medical board. And understand that there are not many physicians out there that are going to pick up where CBI left off and write you a prescription. You will have to start over and probably go through withdraw as I did, so be prepared.... you have been warned. You don't have to do anything wrong, you just have to be a victim between your insurance and your doctor.
As a side note...... I would like to thank Kathy Odem and JoAnn for all the kindness they had shown me in all the years there.

I've read some negative reviews.
I'm a veteran back pain patient and I can guarantee I'm the only one posting that went so far out of desperation as to pay out of pocket and get surgery in Germany.
I now have a new problem though.
Being a veteran I would like to tell any patient that this clinic has been nothing but kind (not a rude one in the whole bunch) and professional without being cold.

Anybody that writes that they were treated "like a drug addict" most likely IS one
Complains about having to pee in a cup?
So the he!! what. What cha afraid of?
Meds like this are so often mixed and abused that any doctor that would NOT want to minitor his patients would be neglegent.
I've had nothing but respect from everybody.
I saw a post about Dr. Godbouts' personal crap?
PLEASE.
I'm not paying for his personal life, I need a doctor and whatever he does on his own dime is his business and I respect his instructions (and his right to privacy) and follow them to the letter.
Dr. Godbout takes more time than any other doctor I've seen over the last 20 years, to actually listen and answer and is more proactive then any American doctor I've EVER been to.
For any patient seeking help I can say that for me that is, this place is a caring and professional medical environment.
I'm doing the injections, more injection, meds, will go to physical therapy... and I don't care if I have to stand on my head and bark like a dog... Whateve it takes to get to the bottom of my new problem is fine with me.
Dr. Godbout and ALL of the crew is top shelf.

The RX I am prescribed is one that I have to pick up a hard copy for
I was out doing business and missed the message to come by and pick it up and then the office was closed.
It was a Friday night but Dr. Godbout actually returned my call at 9:00 PM and called in a make do pronbto and I was able to pick it up before the pharmacey closed.
Very few doctors care enough about pain relief to return a call on a Friday night and understand pharmacey hours, respecting YOUR schedule.
Carolina Back is a facility that this veteran of back would recommend so if your'e thinking of going there or have been refered it's a good move.

This place is a JOKE. I was a patient there for over 2 years, went from doctor to doctor and NO ONE could find out how to fix me?! All they did was give me injection after injection for months. Then onto a VERY expensive PROLOTHERAPY (which they like to push on you when there is NO MORE injections they feel they can do). For 3 months I did prolo-which was one of the most painful experiences of my life. I was getting 5 treatments at a time, couldnt walk/ move for DAYS. Felt like I was ran over by a MAC-TRUCK. BUT I kept trying b/c that is what the DOCTORS told me should help!!!!!!!! WELL it didnt. They are more PAIN-PILL pushers then anything. The staff there in MEDICAL records is the WORST. I have tried numerous times to get a copy of my records to go ELSE-WHERE and she 1. wont answer the phone, 2. returns your calls, 3. FAX over any information. I have had to physically GO UP there and SIT there and make sure they were making copies of my records. I refused to ... I would not recommend this place for anyone in pain or with chronic pain. I was treated like a drug addict. The dr dx me with referred severe pelvic pain that radiated down my legs which caused constant pain, I could not work out, sit for a long time, trouble sleeping etc. She started me on a narcotic, not a large amount either and when i would request a refill or a change they would call me in for a drug screen. I work about 45 min mind you so its not easy to up and leave my job to pee in a cup so I asked if I can come after work? Nope, per the rn I was needed there at that moment, as if I was going to go get some fake pee. They are not friendly or helpful after you already spend tons of money on the mri's, nerve test, physical therapy and office visits. Once you do all that and the medication is not working and you tell them that? Forget it, you are treated like a drug seeking addict. I never was addicted nor did I abuse any meds they ever gave me. In fact I asked to be switched to something less potent because it was making me too drowsy while working. Because I could not leave work and go for the drug screen, they dismissed me from the practice and sent me a huge bill that apparently my insurance did not pick up. I would never recommend this place, huge waste of time and money. I now have a wonderful, compassionate Dr who takes care of all my needs on a one on one basis.

The public needs to be aware that Dr. Chris Godbout has a criminal record. I read his reviews and I researched him myself at NC123. He has 2 assault charges within the last 3 years. He has over 8 speeding tickets and traffic violations. Also, he has a DUI and trespassing. Talking about making a mistake, he makes them over and over again.

first off I haven't seen a physician in the 2 visits I've been to the cary location. i've seen a physician assistant-female-i am female, she spoke so fast i couldn't understand her. and was she was more interestesd in what she thought that she wasn't listenining to me. i felt it was hurry up and get this person over with. i wanted to go to the raleigh, durant rd location-which the cary location assured me could be done. then every time i try to schedule at the durant location, the cary location receptionist is telling me - oh i'm sorry they have a person out, so we can't fit you in there-you know with it being after christmas and people are trying to take their vacations and all. They did x rays at the cary locations and immediately without any consultations or reviewing xrays with me the physician assistant is wanting me to start therapy immediately and i am thinking - wait a minute- you haven't discussed the xrays with me, the mri isn't done-suppose the therapy hurts instead of helps? but it was alot of fast talking from the physician assistant. so i get the mri done and the cary location is telling me i can have my consultation at the durant, raleigh location--but when i call to have this done-again i am told durant can't see me i can go to cary to have my consultation. so i go to cary-again the fast talking physician assistant-who was still interested in telling me what she thought instead of listening to me-funny no for physician and no for orthopedic person yet-she asked me why i hadn't started therapy yet-i responded--because the xrays hadn't been discussed or shown to me and the mri hadn't been done or the results discussed or shown to me-both done now , but still haven't seen them myself.again i am told i can do therapy at the durant , raleigh location-again i try to make the appointment for therapy in raleigh before i leave-again i am told they have a person on vacation etc...etc..etc...from the receptionist. and if i don't want to wait for therapy i will go to cary for my 1st therapy session and then transfer to raleigh--really people? Am I suppose to have trust and confidence in this? of course the fast talking physian assistant is telling me they can do a more invasive solution and they could stick a needle in my spine for cortisone shots or i could do theraphy. Really??? i still haven't seen my xrays or mri, i still haven't seen a physician or an orthopedic specialist, i still can't get to the raleigh, durant road location for therapy or a consultation, and i am going to let the cary location stick a needle in my spine? ps no one has even bothered to ask how much lifting etc.. i do at work everyday. answer-over 50 lbs,and 5 miles of walking-they have me on tramadol and metaxalone and i only take 1/2 a tablet of each every 6 hrs when i am at work-just to take the edge off and when i am at home i rely on a heating pad and no drugs. i have told them this, but they are not listening. i can't afford to be drugged at work, because i am a manager. don't want to be drugged at home either. can someone please listen and help?

Dear Walter R: Our first thought is we hope you are feeling better at this point! Secondly, weβ??re so sorry to hear you had a bad experience in our practice. We certainly strive to be patient centered and getting you back to a high quality of life personally and professionally is our main goal. Typically our patients do see our Physicians but there are occasions when new patients are scheduled with one of our Physician Assistants. This is when the Physicians do not have an open appointment slot (rarely) This is in an effort to see the patient who is in acute pain as soon as possible. From your review, it does not sound like you had the experience we want and your questions were not addressed. Again, we are sorry. Will you please give us a call to discuss how we can improve the process to better care for you? Please feel free to contact Kelly Lewis in our Cary office at 919-781-9950 Ext. 1235. We look forward to speaking with you. Sincerely, Kelly Lewis

I see Kathy Odom and get injections from Dr. Godbout.

Kathy is amazing and caring and listens to everything I have to say and takes the time to figure out what I need to do to help maintain my pain level with different activities and longer lasting medication to help eliminate/decrease back pain. I can get in with her any time that I need and she always makes herself available if I have an emergency and even got me in for injections the first day I came in there to help ease my pain (no wait) Dr. Godbout did my injections and has done them again this past Friday. He also is a professional caretaker, listens to my needs and makes sure that I am doing well. He was actually the one to take me on the same day and first day that I came in- right before surgery which is when my disk broke off into my spinal canal.

I don't really notice too much about office staff though they are polite to me I always go back to see Kathy after only a few minute wait which is also nice.

And... about previous messages- They try not to give you Opiots and make their patients well aware about them possibly becoming a habit... It is not their fault your husband became addicted (I bet you were not going to all of his appointments, if you were I bet he was the one asking for them- so you can't blame them.... Second... Ones personal life has nothing to do with their business life in regards to petty things- if his were... he would not have been able to become a DR.

The office staff was rude and fought with me about the need for me to see a physician. Eventually, they let me see a nurse practitioner, but wouldn't return any of my call for results of tests. One of the WORST places I have ever gone for health care!!!

They are an awesome group of physicians. Dr. Godbout does not take his personal life to this office whatsoever. His quality of care is the best out there and what goes on at home is no one's business but his own and do not believe everything you read and hear.

I saw Dr. Gwinn and Kathy Odom. They both treated me with the utmost respect and professionalism. I would recommend both to anyone. They took the time to listen to me and were very compassionate. I also had epidurals administered by Dr. Godbout. He was also very professional. I saw remarks about his personal life on this website, but everyone makes mistakes. I don't believe he takes his personal life into the office.

You need to check Dr. Chris Godbout's criminal record before you go see him. He has a colorful past. DUI, assault, etc...

Diagnosis: C7/T1 disc herniation, radiculopathy. Pain in left neck/back, left arm. Doc referred me to CBI for a steroid shot. The good: very nice lobby. The bad: Dr. Duncan did not feel the need to look at my MRI images prior to scheduling an epidural steroid shot. She did a very (very) minimalist strength test, and charged me $253 for it. 10 minutes. The next day, a nearby PT did a much much more intensive interview and strength test, and helped resolve some pain in the very first appointment, for half the cost. Another downside to this practice: no one answers any phones there. Its all robophone or phonemail. Just could not trust this practice after the first consult. The reviews on Google were not great either.

I've had upper back pain for 20+yrs. I've been to many drs. They tell me I'm going to have good days and bad days, and dx bone degenerative disease and possible compressed nerve. My husband insisted I go to CBI because they adverise great new procedures that help when other drs are unable to. Well they sounded just like all the other doctors I've ever been to. Offered physical therapy, celebrex, etc. No new treatment options and no relief. Sure physical therapy helps but I am employeed full time and cannot leave work constantly to go to dr appts.
They have offered an epideral if I have an MRI$$$. 1 dr appt then 1 MRI appt followed by 1 dr appt and 1 dr for injection. Hope it works.

Wow, this practice is amazing. I had suffered for 10 years with Migraines and have taken maintenance medicines to control the onset; however, I continued to suffer with debilitating Migraines. These would come on out of nowhere & I would have to retreat to a dark room & lie down in agony. I heard wonderful things about this practice so one day when I had a migraine I called in and was seen by the afternoon by Dr. Gwinn. He could not have been nicer or more compassionate with me. It did not take one long to see he was a thorough Physician who was confident in the treatment options he presented. We decided together that Botox injections for my migraine pain was the right course of therapy.
That was 2 years ago & I have not suffered with one migraine since. The staff was friendly, welcoming & a nurse that made the whold process easy. In addition, the practice was really clean. Thank you Carolina Back Institute for changing my life.

Just want to share with everyone my experience with you regarding the Carolina Back Institute.. My husband has been seeing them for 3 years and they have turned him into a lying Kniving drug addict. They do nothing but administer pain medication likes it's a good thing. They turmed a decent man into a lying disgusting drup addict and they have destroyed my marriage. They should be jailed as drug peddlers. It's nothing more than legalized drug pushing....disgraceful and unwarranted.

I had the same experience with Dr Duncan. She was in a hurry, completely rude when I asked questions dismissing me like I am an idiot for asking about my condition. She gave me little hope for relief.

I saw Dr. Duncan this morning... I must admit I was a bit skeptical before going. It seemed as though there were some negative reviews of this practice.
I must report, I found Carolina Back Institute a great office!!! Everyone was so nice. Dr. Duncan was absolutely GREAT. She was very professional and personable. She spent almost 45 minutes, listening to me and going over my concerns. She presented me with several options that would be available to me, should I decide to go with them. Never, did she push anything extra on me. I really had a GREAT experience with her.

I was in a car accident. I had no pain until about 2 weeks later. I am used to the rude, uncaring docs and paraprofessionals at Duke. This was a welcomed change. I only had one appt so far. MRI is scheduled. And it was no small thing to deal with my dopey insurance company. Sure I signed a pain agreement. That is standard. I feel very confident. (I will change to 5 stars when the pain is gone!!) I recommend.

I know a lot of people are upset because all patients must sign drug agreement. That is because some people have abused the system. And the con artist drug addicts ruin it for all of us. If you are gonna be angry - focus the anger on the cheaters who complicate the system for all of us.

I find that if I have a pleasant and positive attitude then others (ie nurses) will treat me in kind. And I am NOT a polly anna. I have a busted ankle and knee that Duke doctors ignore and mis=treated. I go to Chicago for orthopedics. But I do my best to be nice to all people even when I am in pain and suffering. Having a positive attitude is a healthy way for all of us to try to live.

My experience with The Carolina Back Institute was excellent. I did not even make an appointment and I was seen within 20 minutes. The staff was very professional and caring. I could hardly move my head when I walked in and after the injections, some meds and some rest I am back to work and feel almost 100%. I do not have insurance and was very happy with the cost. The Dr. spent the time to explain everything about my injury. I was recommended to them by family members and would do the same to anyone!

This place is a JOKE!!!! I saw Dr. Duncan many times, after an MRI, facet, and epidural injections, and being prescribed Vicodin, and going to physical therapy religiously, I was treated like a common drug addict! Dr. Duncan has absolutely no compassion or bedside manner, i am a nurse and can say from experience, that she is not a doctor i would recommend. One visit, she had the NERVE to tell me she saw a Dr. Phil episode about mothers addicted to Vicodin, and she compared me to one of his patients! I have documented disc problems, stemming from an injury, a mother to 3, and not an addict, which was so insulting, i still cannot believe her blatant accusation. Never in my 15 years of nursing have i seen a doctor so unprofessional, and inadequate. This is a licensed doctor, what a joke! One of her epidural injections left me black and blue and unable to literally get out of bed the entire weekend, and she didn't give me any pain meds. This office is all about collecting as many copays as possible and recommending injection after injection to get the most reimbursement from insurance companies, and not giving a damn about patient comfort and care. I had the worst experiences of my life due to this office. They have absolutely zero compassion. They act caring at first, but that quickly changes. Beware of any recommendations to this office!!! I would never go back and would rather suffer with my back pain then ever go there again!

This place is a joke! They will be so eager to rec'd shots, meds, and anything else that they can bill to insurance but that will not help you. They do not warn you of all of the side effects and negative aspects of epidural injections but will freely 'shoot you up' without a second thought. I have known patients to go there and the doctors don't even have MRI results to know exactly what they are treating. Patient beware....this place is an insurance sucking institution!

If you are looking for zero sympathy, slow results, and slow turnaround time with a rude nursing staff this is your place. I understand that some patients act like they have issues to receive certain meds, but treating everyone as though this is the case is what you can expect. No regard for your personal well being at all. It is definitely a money making machine. How do I make money, push them in and pull them out.

Carolina Back Institute does what they say they will do. They pursue non-surgical solutions to back, neck, and muscle pain. If you want surgery, go to a surgeon. If you go to a surgeon, expect surgery. When the only tool you have is a hammer, it's funny how everything starts to look like a nail. Personally, I think very few people actually need back surgery and many aren't any better off afterwards. I would avoid back surgery at all costs.

I could barely walk earlier this year because my back hurt so bad. After a toradol injection, a couple weeks of pain meds and muscle relaxers and 4 weeks of physical therapy I was as good as new. I have kept up with exercises the physical therapist showed me and haven't had any more problems. At 51 I'm still playing basketball 2-3 times a week and riding my mountain bike all over Umstead Park and the Black Creek Greenway. Thanks Carolina Back Institute.

Im a mom of 2 and a nurse. I went to see Dr. Singh at first all was great he dx'd me with Fibromyalgia. I had 2 MRI's, trigger point inj, Facet block which hurt more than it helped, lab work, and x-rays. I tried every medication he wanted me to for at least 3 weeks before reporting any side effects. He has since put me on Vicodin, I have been on and off pain meds since I was 16 for various medical issues, so Im on Vicodin for about6-9 months, and he adjusts the dose, after I have to go in and pay $ 50.00 copay for a 5 min appt. I started back to work this month also and 2 days after my appt I called his office and asked for a call back regarding my meds, well his NURSE calls me and says he called me in a muscle relaxer, OK so I take it and LIGHTS OUT!! NO HELP FOR DAY TIME PAIN RELIEF!! So I call AGAIN ask for DR. SINGH to call me NOPE he refers me to a doc in Chapel Hill who doesnt take insurance at all, them he refers me to a Neuro doc who tells me I have Multiple Sclerosis, and Narcolepsy, all this she knows by her 10 min appt, So the I call Dr. Singh AGAIN his nurse calls me he wants me to see an Acupuncture doc NOPE cant afford it $$. So now im PISSED OFF and in ALOT of pain and stressed out and emotional. So after me having to ASK to be referred to REX Pain Center(duh), I ask for a different kind of medicine to help my pain due to the Vicodin not helping b/c my body has built up a tolerance for it, just like antibiotics thats why docs dont give you antibiotics 4 everything!! Then his office HAS THE NERVE to treat me like a DRUG ADDICT. If I was an addict I could get much much better opiods on the street than what we could give me. I was told I would have to AGAIN come in$$$$ and then I would have to do a Piss test Drug screen!!???? I fliped out!! Why would this so called DOCTOR dx me with Fibromyalgia, and then sayd he would help me until I could get into a person with much more knowledge about it, and then treat me like a darn druggie????? I am sorry that is CRAPY for a Doctor to not care about his patients, and he's not that damn busy he cant pick up the phone for 10 min. what does air time apply am I charged $$ for that. One doc I talked to from there on Friday after hours after 3 wks of Dr. Singh/nurses calling me. He told me if I needed meds to go the ER!!!??? I even faxed in info about Fibro, and doctors, treatments, and medications for Fibro, and why some docs are unwilling to give the needed meds. That's all understandable, but DONT GIVE ME A NARCOTIC, THEN STOP IT ABRUPTLY(by the way it says not to do that) AND THEN TREAT ME LIKE A DRUG ADDICT. THIS PLACE SUCKS IN MY OPINION AND I PLAN TO SEE ABOUT FILING A COMPLAINT WITH THE MEDICAL BOARD

I have been suffering from lower back pain and bilateral hip pain for several months. I went to see the physicians at Carolina Back Institute. Dr. Godbout and Dr. Singh have both been very compationate and willing to help me in anyway they can. I had some trigger point injections and some epidural steroid injections. They injections have proven to be very helpful in reducing my pain. I am very grateful for everything they have done for me. THEY WERE AMAZING!

I have had migraine headaches for about 10 years now. I have not been able to find relief for my migraines until I came to the Carolina Back Institute. There I saw Dr. Godbout which has treated me for my migraines. My occurrences of headaches have now decreased exponentially. Dr. Godbout and all the staff have been very efficient, kind, friendly, and wiling to help in anyway they can. It is an EXCELLENT practice and would recommend it to anyone!

I have suffered from neck and shoulder pain for years. I had lots of knots and the area was sore to the touch. A physician at Carolina Back Institute gave me trigger point injections. i have not had pain since and that was over a year ago! I would highly recommend Carolina Back to anyone w/ back or neck pain.

I've been going to CBI for migraine and neck pain treatment. The two doctors I have seen have been very professional and helpful. They have worked to find the source of my pain and have offered me treatment options. I've been going to physical therapy which has been beneficial. I'd also recommend Michelle the masseuse.

My wife was seen at this place. They gave her a shot in her back , next to the spine and nerve. Told her to come back in two weeks for another. Mind you, these shots are over a $1000.00 each time. They wanted her to have physical therapy to help her. They even had a MRI of her back that they requested her to have. They prescribe pain meds, mind you, you have to sign a form only for them to prescribe pain medication. The pain meds are only prescribed for one week, co-pay each time.

Needless to say, my wife and I went to see Dr. Tim Garner in Raleigh and he took one look at the MRI taken and scheduled surgery for five(5) days later.

Carolina Back Institute of Cary...is not at all recommended by me or my wife.

Cortisone shots are priced that way because they are injected with an xray to ensure the Dr does not hit something and cause paralysis. The DOCTORS at Carolina back saw something on me that Dr.Lacin (Raleigh Center for Neurosurgery and Sciences) neglected to look at or take any time to deal with- disk disease! It was clear on both an xray and MRI that Lacin had. Carolina back caught it, not Lacin.

My father has had pain in his sacrum/low back for years and finally went to the Back Institute for help. They did an MRI and gave him two steroid (cortisone?) shots, one on each side of the sacrum, over three visits (=6 shots total). They labeled the shots "surgery" and billed Medicare over $7,300.00 for them, not including the bill for the first visit, the MRI, and the visit to review the MRI. Cortisone shots typically cost no more than $100, not to mention they only last several months at best. Dr. Catherine A. Duncan, who was the physician my father saw, barely spent ten minutes (the medical norm nowadays), always seemed in a hurry, and didn't want to answer any questions. Another friend of mine, a family physician and his wife, went to Dr. Duncan for prolotherapy shots for tendonitis. While the shots worked great, she charged $250 per shot. The family physician did some research and found that one vial of prolotherapy solution (which contains several shots' worth) only cost $35!

Carolina back institute is a business not a place to get sincere help. My fiance has back mid/ upper back pain. They insisted that he get an MRI. It was inconclusive they reported. No surprise to them I'm sure. After doing research we discovered that in only 1% of cases can an MRI produce accurate results for upper back pain! Also he needed a refill and they insisted that he come in. He asked if he could talk to the doctor over the phone because of his new job he is unable to get time off. They said no. He explained that he was out of medicine and they offered no advice besides to make an appointment. Well, this morning when he woke up he was shaking, cold, sweating, and very dizzy. I looked up the medication and there were warnings to not stop medicine abruptly because there would be withdrawal problems. You can bet that the Carolina back institute didn't even warn him of the sickness that he would be facing. What a great second day on the new job, in pain and sick!!Thank you Carolina Back Institute!
