That would be the best word to describe this restaurant. Weather we go as a couple or with our entire family for a special occasion it's always amazing food and fantastic service! Good mid-range prices and totally family oriented. Best place to eat in Asheville as far as we are concerned!

I have fallen in love with Stone Ridge's tomato-bisque soup...some of the best I've ever tasted. My husband and I had a filet mignon which was prepared exactly as we ordered...and it was simply delicious. I also like their black and blue steak salad.

My family likes Stone Ridge Tavern. If you are a vegeterian the menu selection is small. The service is usually good. The kids love this restaurant. They can watch the fish and turtles swim in the ponds inside the restaurant. Although I think they are getting rid of the turtles.

A year ago, 3 friends and myself went to the Stone Ridge Tavern after other friends of ours had bragged about them. We were sorely disappointed.
When I wrote a letter to the manager regarding our experience, detailing exactly what went wrong:
1) One of us never got our soup;
2) Their Alfredo sauce was more like a soup as opposed to the traditional "creamy" texture;
3) The pasta had no taste - as if the water had never been salted;
4) One of us had ordered a dish with an "add-on" suggested by our server - which was supposed to be served as a "side" with her dish (the server brought the shrimp kabobed and served on a bread plate.) Maybe our misunderstanding of what an "add-on" to your plate is supposed to be?

What I received back as a reply absolutely appalled me!

I got a letter stating how great their reputation was and that NO-ONE has EVER complained about their food or service: Basically saying that their restaurant could not possibly be in error and that we should have brought the issues of the early shrimp delivery and the lack of soup to our server's attention that night - which we did and the response from our server was an apology and then to say that particular entree was part of a "combo" deal and we would have to address any kind of "refund" with a manager because she couldn't figure how "that would work". It was rather busy (it WAS a Friday night), so we didnt wish to cause an issue in front of other guests and chose to write a letter instead.
What appalled me the most? The manager who responded to my letter had enclosed four $1 bills in the envelope to cover the cost of not getting the soup.
Neither I nor my friends have ever stepped foot back in there again.
Oh - and the food we ate that night - I've had better. MUCH better!
If you want to spend good money to get really quality food? Please take your business to POMODORO's - there are two of them in Asheville now. Incredible food. Outstanding service. That's where I will be going from now on for a truly wonderful dining experience!

My husband and I recently ate here and it was great. The center cut sirloin was the best steak I ever had. And my husband's stuffed shrimp was excellent.
