BAD experience. They did not pay any attention to the fact that my blood pressure was staying in the 140s-150s and I had protein in my urine the last 4 weeks of my pregnancy. I had to ask them to do a 24 hr urine to look for preeclampsia.

I see Dr. Barrett regularly, but am happy and comfortable with all of the doctors and staff in this practice -- everyone is very friendly and eager to help! I know it is a doctors' office and I should feel like this, but I really trust these people with my life -- I always leave feeling like I got the best care in all of Raleigh!! Excellent staff, doctors, and all-around care!!

I was a patient at this practice for two years prior to having my first child. With my first pregnancy, I had a miscarriage at 9 weeks, and it was devastating. The physicians and nurses at the office could not have been more supportive. They took care of me physically and emotionally. They made what could have been a mountain for me and my husband, merely a speed bump. Our son is now nine months old, and my pregnancy and delivery were both as smooth and delightful as anyone could ever hope for. I would recommend this practice to any friend or family member looking for a physician, they're all wonderful!

This has been the best OB/GYN practice I've been to in this area. I have always had the best experiences with all the doctors, and when I can't get in to see my usual doctor, the practice has been more than accomodating to schedule me with another doctor in the practice. I look forward to my continued relationship with the doctors at Capital Area OB/GYN!
I'd highly recommend them for all your "womanly" needs, they truly do care!

I am a new patient at Capital Area and have never felt more welcome! The front desk and nurses were friendly, the insurance office is very helpful and able to answer all my question regarding my pregancy, and the doctors that I have met are very personable and made me feel at ease. Going through your first pregancy is tough and this practice has made it much easier to handle. Thank you, Capital Area!!!!

Everyone that I have encountered at Capital Area is both friendly and professional. Wait time is minimal and the staff takes their time with each patient. I have and would recommend this practice.

I have been a patient of Capital Area for over 5 years and absolutely love it!!!. The administrative staff and nurses are very friendly and you dont get that at many practices. I have also had the pleasure of meeting all the doctors throughout my pregnancy and felt comfortable with each one. They were all very knowledgeable and made me feel at home. I would recommend this practice to everyone!

This practice is way too busy! The office operations are horrible! You can never speak directly to anyone on the phone, and when you leave a message it takes a few days for them to call you back. They encourage you to use their website for questions, etc. but again, it takes days to get a reponse (if you get one at all). The doctors are nice, but rush in and out of the appointment, and never give you any answers. Dr. Barrett and Dr. Gausmann delivered my children, and they did a great job, made me feel at ease ,etc. but the follow-up afterward was not very thorough, I will be leaving the practice and no long recommending them to anyone!

We have chosen this place for our second child and this is one of the worst place we have ever visited. They are not orderly, they do not call back when you need a prescription or they do not like to write prescriptions where you are at their office. They mix up blood tests, they do not do them properly, they are not considerate to the patients Flex Spending accounts. They are not flexible to the patients needs - they want to do only things that like to do. They do not care about patients. Nurses are RUDE. They do not know how to properly behave with patients. You will never see the doctor on time. They are always backed up. These experiences are in Cary location. I do not know about Raleigh location. I would never recommend this place to anyone

Pros: they didn't kill my baby

Cons: treated like a number, and the hour+ wait

Capital Area OB/GYN has the most kind and caring doctors in the area. They really take the time to listen to my concerns. I have been to several different doctors offices looking for just the right one. Now I can stop looking. Capital Area

Pros: Next to Rex Birthing Center.

Cons: Treat patients like cattle, impossible to create secure Dr/Patient relationship, neglectful towards patients needs.

I am curious about other women's experiences of going through a miscarriage at Capital Area OBGYN. Were the doctors/nurses there thoughtful and caring with you throughout this ordeal? (Maybe this isn't the place to inquire about experiences, since it is a review site, but I could not otherwise find another 'inquiry/response' site for this particular practice.) I very recently went through a miscarriage this at this practice and have mixed emotions about the experience with them. It was obviously not a positive experience due to the fact that I lost a baby, and this is completely unrelated to the doctor and staff and practice overall. Also, I realize it's presently difficult for me, subjectively to make sense of what might have been positive or negative about my interactions with the folks there due to my own distorted emotions with this very specific situation. Yet there is a 'clear-headed' part of my thought process at present that tells me some things could have been handled with more care there among the doctors/staff. I wish not to be specific at this moment. Should someone respond, I will oblige in doing so.I have not at this moment decided to leave this practice; however, I am curious about other very caring OB practices preferably near Rex hosp. There is a possibility I will make a change. I wish to try and have another child soon and I hope for it to be the most positive experience possible among doctors, nurses and staff...and with a happier ending next time.

The doctors that I saw were arrogant and unhelpful with no expertise in high risk pregnancy. I miscarried at 3 month pregnancy due to the doctors lack of expertise and lack of concern, they did not bother to do anything, ie check blood work to see that I may have solvable problem instead all was blamed on the baby and made the ASSUMPTION that the baby had genetic disorder. If you are having complications, transfer to another OB with high risk expertise and skills. Capital OBGYN does not!! Save your baby..today! Front office staff is acutally very nice and professional..love them all.

Lengthy hold times for calling for appointments and even lengthier wait times at appointments are part of why my husband and I decided to transfer to another healthcare provider during our 26th week of pregnancy. Also, as another reviewer stated, some of the doctors in this practice are very condescending...as well as impersonal. After doing our own reading and research, we decided we wanted to strive for a natural childbirth. When asking one of the doctors about the possibility of birthing positions other than lithotomy (flat on back) and use of a bath as a pain management technique, we were pretty much told that neither would be an option.

When we asked about the rate of intervention & C- sections, we were not given a response detailing (or even estimating) actual figures- rather we received the pat "as often as is medically necessary." It seemed as if this practice would rather dictate to you the terms of your birth than respect your wishes- or even bother to keep themselves up to date or informed on research/studies involving alternatives such as water births, birthing chairs, aquadurol etc. The doctor we spoke with seemed very dismissive of any alternatives even though they admittedly had never seen or participated in a birth that used these alternative options.

When I called the practice to cancel my next appointment and notify them of my transfer to another provider, the receptionist did not even bother to ask why- another clear indicator of the general lack of concern for their patients as individuals and the sad lack of customer service.

If you want to take an active role in your birth & delivery, research other local options. We did and we are so glad we did- it has been a night and day difference between our experiences at this group practice and our new healthcare provider.

The doctors are absolutely wonderful. I have been getting care there for 3 years now and they have taken their time with me each time I have had my annual exam. My physician is Dr. Barrett and she is an extremely caring and conscientious physician. Also I have seen other doctors in the practice who are equally as caring. I have had to wait a bit, but this is because each physician takes their time with each of their patients, and I do not mind waiting a few minutes if this is the case. I would recommend this practice to any. I have referred several people to this practice and each of them have been very happy and each patient has seen male and female doctors. The each have been happy.

I am pregnant with my first child and have been going to this practice for the past 7 months. Usually the staff is helpful and efficient, but I have had to redo 2 blood tests because they were somehow not sent correctly to the lab. This is a pain as I HATE blood draws.
Most of the doctors in the practice are great. I do not have to wait long in the patient room for them to see me and they answer my questions. However each time I have had to see either of the male doctors I have had to wait in the patient room for over 45 min (once it was an hour and a half) and they spent about 2 minutes with me. When I am able to get their attention and ask a question, I feel their answers are very dismissive and condescending. I now specifically ask the receptionist not to schedule me with them anymore and pray they will not be on duty when the time comes to deliver my baby.

The doctors at this office delivered a child for us. They were extremely kind and knowledgable about the entire process. What turned our stomachs was what happened afterward. Due to a error in their business office, a payment was not credited to our account. After many attempts to explain that we had indeed paid off the account, they no longer consider us as one of their patients and refuse to schedule any more appointments. After many attempts to contact a doctor or even the business office, no one returned a phone call. Beware....
