One year ago we bought our lab mix there. She had worms. It was an easy fix and I figured it was just a fluke. We recently bought our pitt bull puppy there as well. The day we got her home she had a cough. We took her to the vet and they told us that she had an upper respiratory infection. They also told me that the Pet Warehouse is known for having roaches. And that roaches carry many diseases that can be deadly for puppies. We got her medication and went on our way. The next day my poor puppy was MISERABLE. She wouldn't eat or drink. And so we took her to the vet again and they told us that our 8 week old puppy had a sever case of pneumonia. They also told us that we needed to put her in an intensive care unit and that they didn't think that she had a very good chance of making it. Two weeks and more than $900 later, she's getting better. I called pet warehouse during All of this and they REFUSED to pay her medical bills and told us that they would REPLACE our puppy. As if we would replace a member of our family. Don't buy your animals from here. Go through a reputable breeder. We love our dogs, but this place is NO better than a puppy mill.

So yesterday we came home and found that our beloved parakeet had passed away while we were gone. A parakeet that we had gotten from pet warehouse. This is the fourth parakeet that my family had purchased from this store, I don't know where they get their birds from, but every one that was purchased from here did not live very long. The parakeet before this one died three days after we had brought him home! We have had parakeets for years and know how to raise them. A keet is supposed to live for about 10-15 years, this one barely made it to seven. I've learned my lesson and am absolutely heartbroken over it, I will never, ever buy another parakeet from them and I would advise everyone else not to either.

Is it against the law for this pet store to buy a litter of pup's found on a fencing construction site? I happen to know the person who brings puppies he finds to the Pet Warehouse in Jacksonville, NC. He gets paid peanuts for the puppies and then they are sold for much more. If this is against the law I will surely give out the name of the person bringing the litters in.

this is the worst pet shop i've ever been to, but due to lack of option they are the only available to date for feeders. the slanderous unprofessional staff is iladvised and uneducated in exotics and gurus, dogs are over priced and normally sick, fish are lacking and barely last. I cannot understand why they hire kids, ex junkys and poorly groomed people with bad attitudes to work around animals much less people. I cannot wait for a real pet shop to open in this area

This store would be so much better if the employees weren't so horrible. Maybe all of them aren't bad but from what I've seen they are. Last time I was there, one of the employees was cleaning the puppy cages, she would leave the puppy's in the cage while she lifted up the floor grate. The puppy's would have to cling on to it and be squished against the wall. She was so nasty to the puppies and just threw them around like they were dolls. Also, we played with one of the puppies, and it stepped in its poop. Another employee just put it back in its cage and left the poop on its foot. Gross? The birds are also an issue in my mind. They cover the cages so no one can play with them. Then by the time they uncover them the birds are unsocialize. All the kittens usually look sick and sometimes too young to be sold. They have very cute animals, the employees just don't seem to have the patience or care for the animals though.

If it wasn't required I'd give this place no stars at all. I bought my puppy here $1235.00 and I was not informed that it had a genetic defect. One of the males testicles will not decend which the vet said will not could will cause cancer. Also there was smaller things that the so called breeder should have done for the puppy. This place had the worst customer considerations, lack of professionalism, and poor resolutions. For my yorkie to be okay I have to have him fixed they are only willing to pay 120 of s $450 bill. Won't by again.... BUYERS BEWARE OF THIS PLACE. AWFUL!!!! WON'T EVEN ISSUE A REFUND FOR A NEW DOG.

This store has very polite and helpful employees. I have a ferret that I bought from them almost 4 years ago. I have been taking her there almost weekly to have her nails trimmed. They don't require me to make an appointment to do it, and it doesn't matter when I get there, as long as I get there before it closes at night. There has been 2 occasions where my ferret had an accident on the way to the store and they didn't mind bathing her for me, and with a reasonable fee. I asked if I needed to pay for the shampoo they used and they said I didn't, even though I saw them pull it off their shelf just to use it on her. I haven't had any bad experiences there and I've been going there regularly for 4 years. When my ferrret was sick I asked their advice as to what they think would help her. They told me about an over the counter medicine I could try for her. They didn't have the product in their store at the time, so they couldn't have told me about it just to make a sale. I did go and find that product at another pet store and it did help her. By the staff there telling me about that product they saved me an expensive vet trip. When my ferret went through a spell of not eating again I asked the staff for their advice, they mentioned getting a certain vitamin supplement, which would make her want to eat. I did follow their advice and again it saved me from having to take her to a vet. Not only are their products good and the staff very caring but if asked they will take the time to help you in any way they can. Also I have seen them myself spending time with the small animals there, especially the babies, so that the animal will be comfortable being held and will make a better pet for whom ever buys it. They honestly care about their animals there and I would highly recomend anyone to go their for anything you may need.

I bought a mini-rex rabbit from them and it was a horrible experiance. He seemed fine at first but then suddenly fell ill and started to have seizures and couldn't stand up. He died at the pet store when we tried to take him back. They said they couldnt do anything for us but give us half off on another bunny. Then they accused us of not watering the bunny properly and said he was dehydrated when I watched him drink water all day. Whenever we tried to talk to them about it they kept trying to blame us. They never once said they were sorry about it. Then they told us that they could take him and bury him on a plot of land they had. Does this happen all the time I wonder???? The one lady was very rude and tried to compare the bunny's condition to a human and when my hubby said that wouldnt even make sense (he is a corpsman in the Navy) she just blew him off. And when the next sales associate came up she told her that she was done talking to him because he was a corpsman. What the heck is up with that? So basically if you want an animal that live just a couple of weeks and then get treated like crap when you go in, I would definately recommend this place then.

I bought a puppy there about a year and half ago and was told she was a pit bull, when i went to purchase her one of the ladies at the counter said "oh the pit mix" and was hushed by the other lady working there saying no its a pure pit, looking at the puppy you could tell she was mixed but i fell in love with her anyway, they couldnt have just told me the truth they were so rude, on the same day my friend bought a puppy too and within weeks found out the poor guy was extremely sick and had to be put to sleep. those poor dogs are in horrible living environments and are in such bad shape, i have no problem buying food and toys there but they need to stop selling puppies!!!

I live in Wilmington, which is about an hour from Jacksonville. I Own large Exotic birds and find it difficult to find toys of the appropriate size for my birds at any local pet store. I was excited when my Neice ( who was stationed at Camp Lejune ) told me of this great place with large bird toys. So I took the trip to The Pet Warehouse. I was amazed at all the stuff they had and took great pleasure in socializing with the birds. I purchased a few large toys for my birds and proceeded to the checkout. The women at the register was quite nice. It was months before I had to go back.however when I did return I again had a wonderful experience. The women at the register did remind me that I needed to use hand sanitizer before I touched the birds. She was very polite about it. I think it is great that they keep such watch over the interaction with the animals. I could see where some might take this as them being rude , but would you want the animals to die because someone brought in a disease oran animal was mishandled. The third time I visited , I was working at Camp Lejune and my co worker and I stopped by to buy bird food. once again the staff were extreamly helpful. Although they didn't have the food I was looking for, they did offer to order it and told me how long it would take to be there. I even had the pleasure of meeting the owner Tony. Very nice . He spent quite some time answering questions for me about the birds, he even patiently allowed me to show him pics. of mine. Never did I feel rushed or stupid. The next day after spending much time doing some research on the business, and speaking with the owner over the phone, to see if I needed to bring something to pick up the bird I was purchasing in, They informed me that they had an appropriat size box to send him home in ( which is typical of all pet stores when you purchase an animal ) I told them I had a kennel but my daughter had borrowed it to take her bird to the vet. The owner then offered to let me borrow a kennel from there so long as I returned it. How Thoughtful. Lets see if you get that service at any of your big chain stores. I don,t think so..I again drove back to Jacksonville to The Pet Warehouse to purchase th bird I looked at the day before. When I arrived the staff immediatly got the store owner for me . They helped me set the kennel up with the perch and answered any remaining questions I had and also some I had forgotten. I was so excited about getting my new baby, I forgot to ask what kind of food It was on. Thank goodness the staff thought about it and asked what I was feeding my others. They then gave me a bag of food to take home for the baby until I could switch over to the ZuPreem that I use. They even carried my bag of toys out to the car because my hands were full with the kennel, purse, towel, Etc. where again we talked and again I never felt rushed . and it was chilly. Note also that at no time I have ever been there has the place been dirty, or smelled, the animals all look good .As it is a pet store the animals aren't always going to look happy, they too i'm sure get tired of people poking at their cages and being loud. Surely it is not coincidental that on the days I go there , the people are helpful, the store is clean, the animals appear healthy, It must be a normal thing. As for the people who go in there and get treated rudely, you must have deserved it, when it comes to an animals life, and the fact that the animal can't speak for itself, then someone else must. And if that means the staff said something to offend you or seemed rude then so be it the customer isn't always right.Get educated on animals and get over that your feelings are hurt because you felt stupid.

I don't understand all the negativity. My husband and I bought a Golden from this place about 6 months ago and we paid 600 for her. She is amazing!! The staff has its moments but what place doesn't? And considering individuals who have no intentions of buying an animal are always harassing the animals and letting their children play with them I would be pretty pissed too. ITS NOT A PETTING ZOO!! Their puppies are in good condition and so are their kittens. They are well fed and healthy. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

OK First of all if you are going to write crap on here learn how to Fu***** spell. Second You have no idea where these dogs came from so do not assume that they are from a puppy mill. and third if you think it is so bad you don't have to shop there go some where else and stop your Complaining. If you think the pound is so much better go there then. And some people should have to take a test before buying an animal cause there idiots. And for rude employees if you had to deal with ignorant people like you all day you would be rude too.

I spend a lot of money in there for my dog and fish. the groomer there is awesome and the peeps who handle the fish r awesome. but the check out lady is very very very rude. she almost makes me want to take my money else where. it would be a wonderful place if there were some changes in the staff that is there.

I bought my beagle here about a month ago. She is healthy, active, and very sweet. She's been hard to potty train, but that's a beagle for you. She was not overpriced, but some of the puppies there are.

I wouldn't just go by these comments to decide if you want to shop here; if I did then I wouldn't have my sweet puppy (whom is barking at me as I type this). The lady that was working with the puppies the day I got her was really nice... but there are some not so friendly employees there also. The girl with the black hair and peircings is nice, and so is the red haired lady.

My experience was good, just remember that the puppies you get have not been trained in any way... so it will bite, bark, and go potty everywhere until you train it. That is not the store's fault.

I have lived here for 11 years and have gone many times to pet warehouse. Depending on the worker and the day depends on your experience. The fish people seem pretty knowledgable, but the fish are way overpriced, and you have a 0-7 day warranty on them. You can go right across the street to PetSmart and pay 1/2 the price for a 2 week warranty- no questions asked. Unforunetly they don't sell saltwater fish over there. Anyways, years ago I had a snake and used to purchase my food from them. One day I went to go get 2 mice, and one of the mice jumped out of his hand and onto the floor. He proceeded to stomp on it and leave it twitching on the floor. I was really in shock and horror. I know my snake was going to kill it in a few minutes, but somehow that seemed very different than this guy stomping the mouse in front of the customers, some who had kids. I also know for sure they do not test their cat for anything, as I know for a fact they sold some w/ feline leukemia. So while this is not the ideal store, unforunetly its one of the only choices in Jacksonville. On the up side, they have a bunch of open cages that the kid love visiting and petting.

First of all I think people need to learn to do research-if you are told an animal should only weight this or that much and it goes over or something-think about it-ALL ANIMALS ARE DIFFERENT-you just might have gotten one that is so different its a lil over the pounds- the fact of the price is a GOOD THING-think about it if a person is willing to spend that much money that shows they are willing to TRULY take care of the animal. If you're willing to put that much money aside for the animal you are also willing to get it help if there were an emergency and not wait simply because you don't want to spend the extra cash. An animal, pet, should be no differently treated than a child-meaning you'd do and give anything and everything for it! Most people don't so they rat and rave about the prices and such. If you don't have the money for the animal then you most likely wouldn't have the money to take care of it or get it help if there were a problem.
Not to say there are rude emplyees here-they seem to just not care or give you dirty looks. I've met one person who actually helped and was nice-not sure of her name but she has black hair. I do not really like the idea of the animals in cages like cats and dogs BUT they go by sooo fast that its ok. I go in SEVERAL times a week and there are ALWAYS different animals. What few cats that are in are already bought to a new home, there are different dogs-new ones come in etc.
People dont always do their research and think what they are told should be the absolute 100% truth-well as they usually are no one can ever be 100% on an animal. Just like one person saying her dog bit her or her daughter-honey they are PUPPIES they are high energetic and not used to you nor your daughter or children-you have to train them to go to the bathroom, teach them right from wrong just about everything you'd do with a child. you have to be educated, do research, and have money AND patience and time. Most people don't have any of these and still have chilren which is a discrace! now if you get an animal that is suppose to be registered and it is not then be smart and go back and ASK about it-do NOT yell. Maybe they were told it is and passed the info along not truly knowing. maybe it was an error on animals-but you won't know until you check. quit complaining about the prices-you spend more money on yourself in a few months on junk and stuff but your not willing to for a life? persians are normally a couple of thousands-500 is a bargin-and the dogs are also expensive to make sure they go to good homes not some random person who decides out of the blue to get an animal only later to decide to dump it off. as of right now they have droped their prices! a dog there (not sure what kind bull i think) was origionanlly 2 thousand andsomething and now its down to 1 thousand. and they give bundles wherer you get kenles and such for an animal with food toys and much more-same for birds and other animals! and their prices are WAY better then going to pet smart and smending almost double for the things seperate!

I dont recommend the Pet Warehouse for purchasing small animals. I purchased an adorable baby female guinea pig three weeks ago and it died three days ago. Im a previous cavy owner and took exceptional care of the critter and she turned out to be very sick and died. I researched and turns out she was sick before we purchased her. Im only glad that she died with me instead of in a pet store. As consumers, we are supposed to be able to trust pet stores in knowing that the animals are healthy when we purchase them. Now I am stuck with a cage (which was two small and pushed on us by the way) that I cannot use and probably wont be able to sell (I paid about $110 for the whole set up, including the pig), not to mention the heartache. I recommend going through an adoption, shelter, or breeder for small animals.

I don't know what is wrong with all you people leaving negative comments. My mother has been the main manager at this store for 12 years now, and I've worked there myself. Yeah, the owner may like money, but you know what, it's a private business, not a franchise so it's not like he can make money off of selling you people stuff for really cheap. They have to stay open somehow.

For those of you who love to complain about the "poor service," let me explain something to you. If you had to stand there day after day and deal with annoying people who terrorize the animals and are whiney and people who have bratty little children who don't listen and pester the animals you'd be grouchy too. The girls working there are very nice to customers, and I've only ever seen them be rude to each other. If you don't like it go somewhere else and stop complaining about stupid mess that you probably caused to begin with.

For those of you who complain because you bought a dog that bit your kids, you know something, IT'S A PUPPY!!! They aren't fully trained upon buying them. You have to train it and YOU have to discipline it. YOU'RE RESPONSIBILITY!!! If it bites your kid then you're an idiot and you need to scold the dog and teach it that's not right, and chances are you're kid is doing something to make the dog bite it. So it's your fault for being stupid.

And for those who complain claiming the animals are coming from mills, it's total horse sh**. There's a list in the back office that has names and number of breeders and mills that have tried to sell to the store. It is the NO BUY LIST. You can ask either of the managers and they can tell you where the dogs came from. They take all the information. STUPID PEOPLE, GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE! IF YOU DON'T WANT A PUPPY FROM A PET STORE THEN DON'T BUY IT. COMPLAINING AND ACCUSING PEOPLE OF THINGS BECAUSE YOU PEOPLE ARE STUPID IS JUST REDICULOUS AND CHILDISH!

Stop putting down perfectly good stores trying to make it. There is nothing wrong with the Pet Warehouse. They're a clean environment and I'm sorry, but getting a puppy here is better than getting a dog from our pound because most dogs in our pound get Parvo the second they walk through the door.

I am a proud owner of an Argentine Red Tail Boa, a Columbian Red Tail Boa, and a Corn Snake. I go to Pet Warehouse every Sunday to purchase feeder mice and rats. I have had nothing but outstanding support from the reptile department. I bring in my snakes from time to time to address health concerns or just for general suggestions and advice. I have never been turned away and the service has been extremely professional. The mice and rats have always been free of parasites and they've kept my animals healthy. I recently brought in my Imperator to get examined and the whole process was timely and FREE. I will say that the women that work at the registers have a bit of a bad attitude from time to time...but I only have to deal with them for 2 minutes and then I'm on my way. It doesn't bother me because the support I recieve from the reptile department is what really matters. I have never purchased any other pets, food, etc...from Pet Warehouse but I will say they have outstanding reptile support.

I have no clue what the rest of these people are talking about. We purchased an African Red Bellied Parrot recently, and the staff was amazing. We were not sure that we could afford such an expensive pet, but they let us put a deposit on the bird and kept him there for one month, which was totally against their policy. They said the only reason they were holding it for us was because they could see it was going to a great home. They obviously care where the pets are going. They also said that if they get any negative feelings about a potential customer that they will try to deter them from buying a pet at there store to prevent it from going to a crummy home. So maybe they were rude to all these folks who wrote bad reviews b/c you gave a bad impression. They even had other potential buyers of our bird come in before we put in our deposit and they told them it was sold. They wanted to ensure the bird would make it to a safe home, and they chose well. Our bird Manny (Emanuel Pigford The Bird) came home happy and healthy, and has continued to bring fun into our household. World class pet store. If you go there you should be prepared to sell yourself not them try to sell to you. Or you could go to a chain and support puppy and cat mills if you like, search puppy mills and get ready to be horrified. Go Pet Warehouse! You do a great job! Screw these bad pet owners.

I had a horrible experience at Pet Warehouse. My husband and I have been shopping there for a little over a year because they sell the brand of dog food that we purchase for our dogs. I am 8 months pregnant and I went in to buy a 40 pound bag of food. Since I can't carry it myself I asked the employees to help me. I was redirected rudely twice to ask someone else. Finally, after another customer offered to help me an employee finally agreed. She checked me out and said she would put the food in my car if I pulled it around. I pulled around, but when I got out to open the door for her, my doors weren't unlocked, so I had to go back around to the front. She rudely said, "You know it's cold out here." and proceeded to throw the food in my car when the door was open. I have never been treated so rudely by an employee of any store before. The women were extremely mean. I just wonder what happens when an elderly person or a handicapped person goes into the store and needs a bag of dog food carried out for them. I will not buy from them again. I would not recommend going to this store at all!

I've lived in Jacksonville since 2006 & frequently visit Pet Warehouse because my daughter & I love to visit with the animals. Today we were going in (I'm watching a friend's kid) & opened the door for the two girls to come in, the door was open maybe 10 seconds & the woman at the cash register turns to me and yells "PLEASE SHUT THE DOOR, ITS COLD". I told her I was holding the door open for the 2 little girls & went on. As we were getting ready to leave the FAT AS* lady that was standing by the register was staring us down & for what...I had no idea until we were leaving. She turns to me & says "FOR THE RECORD, I WASNT THE ONE WHO SAID THAT..." WTF does it matter? It was rude in the first place for the first woman to say that to me, then to have this woman say something STUPID to me? Like I was standing there holding the door open for the hell of it? The employees have never really been friendly, but I never let it bother me. I don't suggest going to Pet Warehouse to anyone!!!!!

Staff was fine when I was buying hamster. Saying she was not in good mood because she got woke up. She was very touchy but thought it was because she wasn't used to people. They didn't want us to take time to look at her just put her in box. Brought her home and she was making horrible noises. We bought her on Thursday afternoon. She passed away Friday night. I called store and they said bring receipt and body. Very calm but as as soon as I walked in store they blamed me for her death saying I fed her wrong food which I hadn't. They finially looked at her and said she had wet tail but they had their mind set when I first came in store. I didn't even want to leave her body there and their I'm sorry was so fake. Not going to help my kids grieve the death of the sick pet to begin with. Not the money that matters. I just pray no one else or the other animals there have to suffer because of them making a few bucks. Only giving 1 star because can't give ZERO

Pet Warehouse is good to me. But I'm only buying snake food from them. The only kind of animals I would buy as pets from ANY pet store is fish. You people that are buying dogs, cats, and other pets there (or any pet store) are asking for trouble anyway.

A dog is or at least should be a long term companion for u and ur family. Why would you purchase it from any kind of pet store? Most of these puppies are housed in those little cages and hardly socialized the entire time. They end up developing all kinds of psychological issues. If you want to buy a dog, find a good breeder, or go to the humane society. Do you honestly think those papers they give you on that puppy mill puppy are legit?

If you're buying a pet snake, or lizard there you're wasting your money. Buy your pets from individuals that have extensive knowledge on the animal or breed you're seeking.
Anyway I continue to shop there because they work for me.

I uesd to work for Pet Warehouse in Jacksonville,it was for only 6 months. My advice to any one wanting to purchase a pet for their family is to do your homework on the breed, be sure (if it is a puppy) that the breed is tolerant with small children. The best thing to do is adopt from your local humane society, those animals need loving homes. If wanting to buy, do your homework on reputable breeders. And quit supporting places like Pet Warehouse, who should only deal with fish, and reptiles seeing as how that is the only thing they are good at selling.

I bought my Dachshund from the pet warehouse in Jacksonville, NC and they told my he was a mini dachshund (witch is suppose to only weigh 10pounds.) He is now 9 months and weighs 15 pounds. *no im not over feeding him! atleast he is a health puppy.

I first started my salt water tank on a whim, and with the Pet warehouse's knowledgeable team I was able to go from a small ten galleon salt tank to a 25 gallon to a 55 gallon. Thanks to Chuck and his team in the fish department even though we have moved all over the place! Including Texas where we are now stationed. I still call them for advice on anything Saltwater. I'm not a pro by any means, but at least if I don't know what I am doing, I can always ask Chuck and his team for great advice. The knowledge of corals and fish are great. I had purchased a Orange Tree Coral, one elephant skin coral and one snowflake moray eel. With there help i had orange coral ALL Over the place! It was great and exciting. Thank you so much! With there help I am as confident as ever. Thank you Chuck!

o my gosh! this place is terrible! for Christmas, my mom bought me my first pet snake from there. but the store gave us the wrong information to take care of the little guy. and, as it turns out, when we bought him, he was sick! the poor thing ended up dying after about a week. i was ticked! luckily, they gave us another one for free and i just couldn't leave it in that terrible place. now he is healthy and happy but I'm still gonna miss my baby Jake. i HATE pet warehouse. they're terrible!

My husband and I recently bought a puppy from this establishment. I was skeptical at first because our first dog was purchased from a reputable breeder who warned us about pet store purchases, but we were assured these dogs were also from local breeders and not puppy mills and were very well taken care of. Well, we decided to go for it because I could hardly stand the sight of those poor puppies in those disgusting cages. When we bought our dog he seemed fine for about 24 hours, but by day 2 he was having severe bloody diarrhea. I took him to a vet in town right away and he had a bad case of parasites-Coccidia and Giardia- and required quite a few medications and needed to get totally re-vaccinated and re-dewormed!!! Take the time to buy from a reputable breeder and not a pet store. I am glad that we saved our little guy, but still feel guilty because this place should not be supported.

After I read a few of these other reviews, I can't understand how these people are still in business, seriously?! We should do something to get them shut down.here's my experience with this place:We got a kitten here back in October. I couldn't believe the way it was there, anyone could just open the kitten cages (which are basically just bird cages all wire with no where soft for them to stand) and handle all the kittens. This is how diseases spread between the litters! Our little guy was the last one of his group crying to be let out. When he went to the vet a few days later, he had ear mites, infested with fleas, an eye infection, upper respiratory infection, and a really high fever. The only thing he didn't' have were parasites! We got him medicine and started him on a flea control product, it took weeks for the fleas to stop hatching and he had two baths. But now he is the most loving little kitty ever and I don't regret getting him. So its bittersweet, I think we saved him from that place! But I can't even bring myself to walk in there anymore, even for pet food because it breaks my heart. The animals in the pound have a better life in a cage than these poor animals. They should be ashamed of themselves.

I first started my salt water tank on a whim, and with the Pet warehouse's knowledgeable team I was able to go from a small ten galleon salt tank to a 25 gallon to a 55 gallon. Thanks to Chuck and his team in the fish department even
