This is the place of the first Moravian settlement in NC. They have done a great job in preserving this part of history. You can just go and walk down the streets of Old Salem, you can take a guided tour, or you can get headphone and listen to the history through a tape as you walk back in history. They have a bakery, which still operates, they have live demonstrations on most days and many, many shops. Kids will love learning about history here.

If you are going to be in the area, or live here and have people visit often, it will benefit you to consider purchasing a family pass to save money in the long run. Old Salem is a beautiful living historical property - think Colonial Williamsburg, but on a smaller scale. You can easily spend a full day there, but will probably want to return for some of their special events. If the weather is nice, be sure to eat behind the Inn.

Old Salem is an amazing place to take your kids. They have moravian cookies and warm apple cider, my fav treats. You can watch them hand pour candles and the people dress from that era. It is pricey to visit in my opinion, but well worth it to see a little bit of history in modern day that remains unchanged.

This is a great day out for the family. We took our in-laws and spent most of the day just wandering around. The adults and children all had a great time. We visited the Old Salem Childrens museum, Old Salem Toy Museum, The Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts and just walked around the area. There is so much to see and do. They have a great Halloween event but its over for this year. You can call ahead to find out the newest events happening. The costs to visit are very reasonable. We purchased the individual plus 3 for $95 a year and have already got our moneys worth from it. If you get a chance to eat there the deli has great food. The parking was good.

This is a lot of fun to go look at. There are tons of small shops and buildings that are historical. I wish that you didn't have to pay to look at the old historical buildings, but we just passed those by and went for the free buildings and shops. It's really pretty, and I love the old brick streets! Very neat. All of the people dress up like they are still living in the 1800's. We enjoyed it, but it is a lot of walking, and I recommend going when it isn't too hot!
