i had taken my nissan altima to another mechanic several times to get the ac fixed... finally i took it to gil, who in less than an hour had it figured out... not only that, he went out of his way to help me get a replacement part at a good price for the OTHER mechanic who had dropped the ball with my car to put in. he was unbelievably helpful, friendly, everything a mechanic should be!! obviously i will skip the other guy and go straight to gil in the future!!!

My family is truly blessed to have been referred to Daultless for a repair some 5 years ago. Our aging "fleet" of cars will challenge the best on a normal day, but Gil and Max have been there any and every time we have called. 91-Ranger, 92-Subaru SVX, 93-F150, 98-Ranger, 00-Grand Caravan & 05-Xterra ... that's our collection, plus the wheels of extended family and friends.

We are ALWAYS treated with respect, Never up-sold on frivolous options... We Love These Guys ... Its just that Simple.

We are so glad we stumbled upon Gill here on citysearch. He is always around when we need him. The best part about Gill is that we know we can trust him. He always does what he, in his expert opinion, thinks is the most beneficial and cost effective thing for our cars. He takes time to explain exactly what he did and explains exactly what we are paying for. We would recommend Gill to anyone and everyone who needs work on their car!

As someone new to the area, I'm SO happy to have found Gil and his team at Dauntless Transmissions.

They are men of integrity who will tell you the truth even if it costs them money. Regardless of whether you need $60 of work or $6,000 of work, their attention and customer service is amazing.

I've never met people who can diagnose a vehicle's problem faster and with more accuracy. The folks at Dauntless prescribe exactly what you need... and nothing more.

I'll never take my car to a dealership or car repair chain again.

I was very surprised to find a mechanic that could fix almost any problem with my vehicle, and when it was an issue he couldn't repair, he was upfront and honest about it instead of just focusing on his 'Bottom Line'.

He truly believes in the 'Customer Service' approach to his business and is out to not just get customers, but build relationships, and with that , he has found a customer for life.

With the work he has performed on my vehicle as well as my wife's vehicle, he has saved us time, money, and more than a few headaches knowing that the problems can and will be fixed right the first time.

I actually found Gil and Dauntless Transmissions through the CitySearch recommendations about 3 years ago (when my husband and I moved to Raleigh).

I always get stressed looking for a new mechanic because I have been BURNED so many times. Plus, 'mechanics' nowadays can't do anything until they plug in the computer for a diagnostic because they can't diagnose a car. (I mean, yes, the computer is helpful but I also want an old school mechanic who can ferret out potential time bombs based on a shimmy and a description of noises. Which - by the way - they totally do.)

I simply can't say ENOUGH about Gil and his son, Max. They are straight up GOOD PEOPLE and have been invaluable to me. I know they aren't milking me for all I'm worth, I know that their work is always high quality, and I know that I can trust them.

They are also super flexible schedule-wise.

Unfortunately I know that some people will read this and think that Dauntless can be steamrolled into bending themselves into a little pretzel and cutting the price of their work. If that's you, then STAY AWAY.

They deserve the absolute BEST customers; people who truly appreciate what an asset a great mechanic can be, who know that they'll spend less money in the long run, and who value relationships with people they can trust.

As a woman it has been EXASPERATING finding mechanics I can trust who don't automatically think I am just some stupid person with a credit card for their enrichment. Gil and Max always talk to BOTH me and my husband whenever we are in there and NEVER make me feel ignorant or stupid. Also, they take the time to explain what's going on and why whatever-it-is is happening.

Frankly, I absolutely love these guys and I'm heartbroken I bought a new car that they can't work on. (Saab) The work that they did on my Taurus was absolutely exceptional.

I'm a little sad that their name is Dauntless Transmissions because they are such PHENOMENAL all-around mechanics. Don't get me wrong - they are insanely knowledgeable transmission people - but they are also just insanely knowledgeable car people.

Dauntless replaced our transmission about a year ago. He was very thorough and made sure everything was working properly. There was an intermittent problem with poor idling, but it acted fine when he looked at it, and he said to bring it back when the problem is consistent. Recently during the last cold spell, the car wouldn't start at all. Dauntless looked at it, replaced the battery terminals and cables at no charge!!!!

Having someone I can trust that's not trying to rip me off is priceless. Thank you so much.

Gill has gone above and beyond the call of a mechanic with my vehicle. The check engine light came on and Gill spent a great amount of time and effort trying to locate the problem and correct it. He walked me through everything he did for diagnostics and repairs and was up-front and honest with me about what he could and couldn't do. His prices are fantastic and his customer service is top notch. I will continue to use Dauntless Transmissions for all of my vehicle repairs and will recommend them to everyone I know.

I had my 1999 Honda Accord towed to Dauntless after my transmission died. They accurately diagnosed the problem and described it without talking down to me. He told me that he was only replacing bearings that needed to be replaced and was treating it like it was his own car. They were honest, trustworthy, and gave me a very competitive price. I would definitely bring my car back in the future!

Dauntless Transmissions was the singularly most honorable thorough experience I have had with auto repair. Gil is helpful and flexible on appointment times and completed my repair quickly offering to drop off the car at my home when he was finished. The price he charged was one of the most competitive we found which is significant with his experience in his field. If this all was not enough he called to follow up with me to insure that the leak was repaired and wanted us to bring it by for a confirmatory check. I would recommend his service to all my friends and family! DanC

I have now been a customer with Dauntless transmissions for over 5 years. I can honestly say Gill and Max are the only people I trust with my vehicles. I use them for all my maintenance work and repairs. They have taken the stress out of finding an honest mechanic. I get the personal service I want, a professional job at an honest price. They never attempt to push work I don't need and are always available when I am in a bind.

I usually never provide recommendations or reviews. However, for Dauntless Transmissions I will make sure to go out of my way to recommend their services to anyone needing a mechanic.

I had a crazy issue with my ABS brake system that would intermittenly engage when braking normally. This was a huge problem and no one could diagnose the root cause. I was actually told by another mechanic that I was lying the ABS system was fine.

Gill and Max had my vehicle one day, invested the time to test drive my car till the problem happened again. They then identified and replaced a faulty brake sensor within a few hours and had the car back to me with no issues.

They are proffessional, reliable mechanics I can trust.

I had an indicator light come on for the transmission in my 1998 Lincoln and started looking for a repair shop. Thank goodness I found Dauntless Transmissions through City Search. I called and spoke with Gil and setup and appointment for an estimate. When I arrived Gil took me right in and looked at my car. Within twenty minutes he gave me an estimate and setup an appointment to have the car serviced.

I dropped off my car the next day and Gil offered to drive me to work which was a pleasant surprise. The work was completed on-time and on budget to the estimate.

A couple of months ago, my transmission died in my 2000 Hyundai Elantra. I was pretty upset because I just bought the car a few months before the transmssion went out. I always get worried when I need to get my car repaired (who doesn't ?) because I'm a female and a broke college student. I usually get pushed around and I was extremely worried because a transmission replacement is a major repair. I finally called Dauntless Transmisisons because of the great reviews on citysearch. I spoke with Gil and he was more than helpful. He gave me an estimate and told me when I should expect my car to be fixed. My car was ready in a week and he dropped of my car that night around 7pm at no extra cost. I live about 25-30 minutes away from the repair shop. Is that great customer service or what?! I went back a week later because I thought I was having more problems with my transmission, and we took it for a test drive and check it out for me. Even though nothing was wrong (and I felt rather silly). He was more than happy to help me and explain everyhting to me. Also, I went back a month later for a courtesy check up and that went great as well. Gil goes out of his way to make sure you understand what needs to be done to your car to keep it running great. He is a great person and an amazing mechanic. The service was great and so were the prices. I plan on only going to Dauntless Transmissions for all my car repairs. I highly recommend Dauntless for any car repair service.

When your transmission stops functioning and you rely on your vehicle to get you from point a to point b, you start to worry about a number of things, i.e. money to cover the expense and a reputable, qualified technician. Well, my first stop was, silly me, RPM Nissan. Bad choice! The only words that I'm hearing from the ASE mechanic was, "would you like to sell the car?" What the @%&k! So I'm driving a 1991 300ZX Twin Turbo, perhaps the cleanest 300ZXTT in Chapel Hill. I'm there for a professional opinion, not for them to find interest in my car and ask me is it in the market? So I'm back on the net searching for a qualified shop. I come across Dauntless Transmission, get on the phone and explain my situation to Gill. We make an appointment and the following week the "Z" is being looked by his son, Max. Max was very meticulous and actually showed me the components that bit the dust. He immediately talked to his resource and was able to get the parts the following day. Let me add something...before any work was done, Gill made certain that I was present to see what was happening. After all, the "Z" was at the mercy of Dauntless. The next morning, my vehicle was up and running with new components and glad to be on the road again. Fellows, thank you for a job well done!

After moving to Raleigh from a small NC town, I was skeptical about taking my car to any mechanic here. I had my car serviced in my hometown, 45 minutes away, for 4 years because I consistently got lower quotes there and knew the mechanics. Eventually, I was in a bind and had to get the car serviced in Raleigh and a friend recommended Dauntless. Their price was comparable to what I would have paid in my hometown, and Gil and Max are friendly, reputable guys. Gil even recommended that I do some [much needed] maintenaince to improve the life of my engine, and told me how I could do it myself at home to save myself some money. Their genuine interest seems to be making sure your car is running as well as possible while costing you as little as possible. Sure, they make a living doing a great job fixing cars, but they aren't out to make an extra buck off of their customers for work that's not really needed. Like a previous comment, they treat you like a person, not a job order.

as you can tell from the other reviews Dauntless is the real deal. They are by far the most honest mechanics I have ever done business with. They are extremely trustworthy and competively priced. They pride themselves on service and dont waste your time trying to sell you something you dont need.

Once again, Dauntless went above and beyond to help me out. Within minutes of calling them to report that my car was stuck, Gil and Max arrived, quickly diagnosed the problem, got the car running and took it back to their shop to fix. They are beyond doubt the best mechanics I have ever used. Their customer service, knowledge and timeliness are some of the many reasons I will continue to call them.

Dauntless helped me out of a bind. My car died on me during Thanksgiving weekend. Gil and Max came, assessed my situation, told me what was wrong, and within a matter of a day had me back on the road. There were no crazy fees or double speak. They treated me as if I were a person and made me feel comfortable, and FIXED my car. This is not the first time they have provided me with expert service, from now on I will be using Dauntless everytime there is something I need with my car. These two are a god send for anyone who needs work done on their car!!!!

I have had a vibration problem with my car for the last 2+ years. During that time, I visted at least four automotive shops and one dealership - no one was able to (correctly) diagnose the cause. Tired of the vibration and tired of buying new tires, I took the car to Dauntless. Gil took the time and applied his expertise to locate the cause (actually a complex combination of three causes). The vibration is gone. I found his prices very reasonable and the service great. Although it's named "Dauntless Transmission", they perform a wide range of non-transmission services. After living in this area for 15+ years, I finally feel like I have a trusted place to take my car for service.

This is my first experience with (heretofore unknown by me), Dauntless Transmissions. Three and a half years ago, my Astro automatic transmission rebuild job was botched by a now defunct "transmission specialist". An intermittent noise that got worse with age caused me to seek the services of another experienced automatic transmission specialist. After a more careful search, I came across Dauntless. Gill Gutierrez analyzed my tranmission problem and performed the necessary repairs. Gill struck me as being an honest and consciencious mechanic.
Automatic transmissions are complex mechanisms with numerous precision parts. A rebuild job is not cheap (no matter who does it). If you are going to spend the money, it might has well be with a reputable mechanic as I believe Gill Gutierrez is. He is now my first go-to guy for all my auto mechanical needs, not just transmissions.

Finally a mechanic you can trust! Dauntless Transmissions are on top of thier game, very professional, knowledable and most important honest. These guys made sure I was aware of everything and were very detailed in all thier explanations. I would recommed them for not only tranny work but standard maintenance as well.
