I have been going to Riverview Inn since I was a kid, and I actually can't believe all the snobby reviews people put up here. If you know anything about southern food or atmosphere then this place is perfect. I'm no redneck but I can still appreciate the relaxed, at-home, atmosphere. This place was never meant to be "fine dining," just a casual family place. The staff even greets you like family, and not like strangers (and I'm not known as a regular either). The paper plates and silverware are not at all an inconvenience, nor are they to save money, Rivewview has been using those since it opened. The restaurant, fixtures, and booths may be the originals from when the restaurant was built 63 years ago, but that's part of the wonder and the pirate ship atmosphere. And old is not the same a dirty, I have never been sat at a dirty table or disappointed by the appearance of the buffet. As far as the food goes, to be fair I have only had the buffet, but that means I have tried a little of everything, and like I said if you know true southern cooking then you will love the food as much as I do. I took my boyfriend from New York there with my family and he loved it, the food, atmosphere, and charm. My mom started taking me to this place with the family since I was an infant, and now that I'm 21 I can say that I have never had anything other than hot delicious fish and cobler since- and my family makes the drive out to the restaurant a few times a year and EVERY time we go to McAddenville, it's a tradition. And that's pretty much what this place is about, traditional southern food and comfort. So if you have kids, appreciate antiques, have an open mind, or love southern food, then I'd give this place a try.

Contrary to what some assert, the Riverview Inn of today is no more a cherished "Southern tradtion" than a trailer park is. Giving it a bad review is not snobbish, it is simply honest. After more than 60 years in business, the restaurant is well past its prime and on life support. The food isn't bad but everything else is very wrong and very outdated. The worst thing about this old restaurant is that meals are served on paper plates, eating utensils are plastic and beverages are served in plastic disposable cups. This may save money on proper dishwashing equipment but it is hardly the way a sit-down restaurant is supposed to be. And the prices are no bargain so it's not as if the owners are making up for the lack of basics by providing cheap eats. The buffet is messy looking, the dining room is dark and ugly, the booths are outdated and cramped and the service is distant and somewhat brain dead. While this place may have been the cat's meow in its heyday, it seems to be on its last leg now. Very disappointing, somewhat depressing and not worth the drive to the far western part of Mecklenburg County. You don't even get a decent view of the river from this outdated, run-down joint.By the way, even its website is way out of date, so don't pay much attention to the menu prices it displays from December 2008. Alas, everything about the Riverview Inn seems to be suffering from extreme neglect. If the owners aren't willing or able to reinvest and modernize the place, they should shut it down. My guess is that the public will take care of that sooner rather than later. Nostalia can only sustain a place for so long.

One of the WORST meals I have even gotten in a restaurant. I ordered their "specialty"-the seafood combo platter. I literally gagged on the scallops....they were fried in a batter which was burned on the outside and undercooked in the inside. Lerft a doughy slime in my mouth. Flounder was tasteless and extremely greasy. Hushpuppies had no taste either. Even the tartar sauce and cocktail sauce were awful. Oh, and the fries were greasy and COLD. Even the service was lacking. This is the first review I have ever written online....that's how bad the food was. AVOID THE RIVERVIEW INN, unless you want to throw away your money. I wouldn't have even given this one star, except you must give at least one to review.

My son and I took my wife to Riverview Inn today for her birthday. I am shocked at some of the reviews. All three of us found it to be, by far the worst seafood we have ever "half" eaten. As for my seafood platter, the scallops were small, badly overcooked and did not have any taste. Our fish had a bad fishy smell. Oysters were very small and not much taste. Fries were greasy and cold. Tea wasn't bad. My wife's coke was alright. This was our first and last time. I highly recommend you go to Capt'n D's for a much better meal. Truly, the worst seafood meal we have ever eaten. All three of us agree on this.

Fantastic atmosphere for fish camps
I also have been going there for 55 years. They have the best fried shrimp, slaw and tarter sauce i have eaten. I am now on a restricted diet and haven't been able to go. I would die to know how they make their slaw sauce and tarter sauce I would definitely splurge on it

I've been going to the riverview inn since before I was born. And it's still my favorite place to eat today. There is NO PLACE ON EARTH that you can get the same quality and style of food they serve. I love it all. The south's best Cole Slaw, the hushpuppies, filet of flounder, whole flounder. Whatever riverview cooks is good. It's a unique experience b/c of all the history in that place as well as the food. The burns family has done a good job of keeping prices down in a seafood market that is rising everyday. For instance at myrtle beach people pay 20, 30 , 50 bucks for an all you can eat buffet at Riverview you and your wife can eat for 30 bucks. Go down there and you'll never eat fish camp style seafood anywhere else again

PROS: Good food, nice folks, lots of seating
CONS: A good little drive from most anywhere(BUT IT SURE IS WORTH IT)

A trip to Riverview Inn is like stepping back in time to an old fashioned fish camp. The seafood is great. The salt and peppered catfish is some of the best ever. The prices are reasonable. The only bad thing is the smoke. The restaurant's non-smoking section is a small room off to the side. In the winter, you'll definately keep your coat on. The buffet is located in the middle of the smoking section! There's no way to avoid the stench of cigarettes. Sadly, it often is so bad it ruins the meal.

PROS: Wonderful fish
CONS: Lots of Smokers and no way to avoid them

Riverview Inn has been around forever! They have the BEST seafood. My family loves going. They have a great buffet with fish (cat, asklan white, flounder), shrimp(fan tail and popcorn), stuffed crabs, along with fries, slaw and something for the kiddies. If you ever get the chance to go check them out.

PROS: GREAT Food....
CONS: To far from my home...... :0)
