Sushi-Thai, located in Cary, features the largest variety of combination Japanese and Thai cuisine in the Triangle Area. Enjoy fresh sushi delicacies in a relaxed atmosphere and other Japanese dishes paired alongside Thai favorites. Serving both lunch and dinner, Sushi Thai offers a variety of lunch specials in addition to a children's menu. Choose from Japanese teriyaki and tempura dishes and Thai rice and noodles. Specialties like our New Zealand Green Mussels are also a favorite. Our sushi bar has nigiri, maki and sashimi, available al la carte or by combination plate. We even have love boat sushi meals, a combination of sushi and sashimi for one to four people. Stop by today to find two cultures in one.

Editorial by Citysearch

In Short
The pleasant decor is defined primarily by the geometric, oriental woodwork that plays an integral role in Sushi-Thai's architecture. The tables are well spaced, and there are several booths. At the sushi bar, there's a TV that plays continuously, so sports fans could conceivably watch the game whilst dining on nori rolls. Sushi-Thai offers a menu complete with all the Japanese and Thai entrees that Americans consider classically Asian.

Sushi-Thai Cary is not customer friendly

by l c.

I went out to Sushi-Thai with my husband and a couple of friends whom we had not seen in a long time. We wanted to eat Sushi and sit and talk and catch up. We finished our meal and sat and talked for a few minutes. NOT even 5 minutes had gone by when we started getting stares from the staff. Then our waiter told us if we could leave because they had a big party coming in and they needed our table. We will NEVER go back due to the horrible experience of being KICKED OUT!!! Any good place would know to make their customers happy and they certainly did not.

Being a South East Asian..i can really know the actual taste of a Thai food and this place surely does has the exquisite origin taste of Thai food. The Tom Yam Seafood Soup ,Shrimp in Blanket and the Fried Rice is so good.It has stronger spices than a usual Chinese fried rice and defly recommended for whose who wants to try another new regional flavours.

Sushi-Thai Cary is a great Thai Restaurant

by Mei N. | insider Insider | Rank: 16,185

We went to Sushi Thai Last year and the food is great. It is one of the best Thai restaurants in the triangle area. The Sushi is great too. We didn't quite like the Japanese food. But it was not because of the restaurant, but we generally did not like Japanese food anywhere here. It is slightly on the expensive side. Each entree is like 12-14 $. The Sushi boat is a good choice for appetizer if you go there as a group of say 6-8 people.

LOVE Sushi-Thai!

by Meredith S. | insider Insider | Rank: 21,365

We've been going to 'Sushi Thai' (Both in Cary and the one in Raleigh off of Lake Boon Tr.) for about 5 years and haven't had a bad experience yet!

The sushi is absolutely super fresh and tasty, as is the tempura. They keep your drinks full, have the most wonderful attitudes and are, just generally speaking, such nice/friendly folks.

HIGHLY recommend this place. It's delicious!

excellent food

by S F.

A friend of mine is obsessed with this place; we go all the time. The atmosphere is really nice-- the carved tables make the place seem extremely fancy, but the prices don't tell the same story (lucky for us!). The sushi is very fresh and well prepared; I had the fried rice and the pad thai which were also good. The service is mainly satisfactory. Totally worth to check out, because once you do, you'll go back again and again.

We Compare All Sushi to Sushi-Thai

by lgoes

We feel like family at Sushi Thai. They treat their customers so well, and service is impeccable. Though I have enjoyed Thai there several times, the sushi draws us back weekly. Love their ginger dressing, love their miso soup, love their tamago, love their sashimi special selelctions.

Pros: The most gratious service, and freshest sushi

Cons: ??

Best Place to Eat Lunch

by lrj2891

This is one of my favorite places to eat lunch during the week. The always give great service and the sushi is fresh and always tastes great. I love the atmosphere of the place with the detailed woodwork throughtout the entire restaurant. The only thing I would change is for the restaurant to be bigger. If you're looking for a very reasonably priced lunch Sushi Thai is the place to go.

Pros: Excellent Sushi, Service and Atmosphere

Cons: Needs more tables

We have our new favorite resturant!!!!

by rwb552

One of the best dining experiences that I have had in a long time. The restaurant was packed and they still had us seated in less than 20 minutes. The staff was very courteous and on top of everything, our drinks were never empty. They did a great job helping with explanations of the menu when we may have looked a little confused. The food was phenomenal, I am not a sushi guy, we went their more for my fiance, but the quality of the food has made me a sushi guy. I can?t wait to go back to try some of their other non sushi items as well.

Great job!!! Best customer service I have seen in the area!!!

Pros: Everything was great, huge menu, don't let the strip mall storefront fool you.

Cons: Didn't see any

Fantastic on all fronts

by patsfan5252

From the first time you walk into this small, unassuming, store front in Cary be prepared for some of the freshest and best prepared Thai and Sushi that you have ever had. The quality of the fish is top notch, the tuna was a beautiful piece of protein and tasted fantastic, the eel, the rolls and the Pad Thai were all excellent to above excellent. The interior is creative and attractive and the servers are great as well. I would highly recommend Sushi Thai!!

Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Quality

Cons: None at this time

very happy -- excellent value

by ljwobker

Went here on a whim with the wife for dinner... ordered a couple of rolls and some nigiri, some yakitori and was very happy with the quality of the food and the service. I'm not an absolute sushi connoisseur, but the fish was fresh and very tasty, and the chicken and vegetables on the side dishes were yummy as well. A very full meal (including a couple of rolls to take home) ended up being less than $35 before tip/tax, which is a very good price for decent sushi. It's not as good as some of the sushi I've had in San Francisco, but I also wasn't paying $80 a person for it here!!!

Meal Price more than just 1

by urdaman

I have eaten at Sushi-Thai Cary several times, lunch and dinner, and find the food consistently good. Lunches were with coworkers and even the non-sushi eaters found something they liked on the menu. I think the Meal Price is a bit more than just "$." Cary is full of chain restaurants and all that entails; so nice to find a more unique offering available.

Pros: food is consistent

Cons: a little pricey for what you get

If this is the best, I hate to see the worst

by lilnica

My husband and I were on a search to find good sushi in the Triangle area, Sushi Thai came highly recommended. Hoping for sushi comparable to that we have had in the past we took the advice of the ratings and recommendations. One word described our experience: DISAPPOINTMENT. We were seated fairly quickly in the cramped restaurant. After about 15 minutes, my drink order finally arrived (after reminding the server twice). The sushi rolls have interesting names, unfortunately that was the only noteworthy part. Our sushi rolls arrived and the Dragon Roll, the Spicy Tuna Roll and the Crazy Roll were all a disappointment. It was almost as if the fish had been sitting out all day. I have had fresher sushi from the grocery store!! The ginger accompanying the sushi was over pickled, maybe to make up for the fact that it too had been sitting around. And the sauce that covered the Dragon Roll had a taste and consistency similar to that of the Special Sauce on a Big Mac. Save your money, for sushi...GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Pros: The decor, quick seating

Cons: The food and service

Best sushi in the triangle - hands down

by kgrey8200

We have tried them all, but Sushi-Thai in Cary is the best sushi around. It is consistently good, and so fresh. We get take out from there at least 2 times a month and eat in the restaurant on occassion as well. It is the best sushi around, don't let the location fool you. The Mary Roll is the best one out there, I have tried many other places!

Great Everything!

by JSlice

Went on a Thursday night, it was relatively busy but we were seated immediately. The seating arrangement can be a little tight depending on where you are. The amount of choices on the menu is fantastic. We ordered spring rolls, fried gyoza, the special panko fried tofu, maguro, California roll, vegetable roll, a vegetable stir fry and miso soup. Everything was excellent, and reasonably priced. It was very exciting watching the sushi boat (huge wooden boat covered in sushi) go by to the table next to us...maybe next time I will order it!!! I can't wait to go back.

Pros: Great food, very fresh fish, reasonable prices, HUGE MENU!!

Cons: Huge menu makes it hard to decide!!! and some of the seating is a little on the tight side

Better than the one on Wycliff

by euncapher

I like the menu and sushi better at the Sushi Thai in Cary than the one on Wycliff. The sushi is also fresher, in my opinion. There are more specialty rolls that are not on the regular menu. The sushi bomb roll, exactly that...it was the bomb! I can't speak for their Thai food, since I've not had it at this restaurant, but the ginger salad, ika sansai, and their sushi was all very good! If you have a group of 4 or larger, I would recommend calling ahead. It's small and gets crowded quickly!

Pros: Fresh sushi! Variety of specialty rolls.

A hidden gem - fantastic sushi

by sushigirlfriend

My husband, my two year old daughter and I love going to Sushi Thai. We are on a strict budget and will save money just to go here. My daughter loves the Tamago Yaki. Sushi Thai in Cary is the ONLY sushi restaurant I've been to in North Carolina that makes their own Tamago. All the others use frozen premade stuff. My husband does not eat sushi but has enjoyed the Thai Food. I have had everything from the simple but magnificent spicy tuna roll (the best I've ever had including places in South Korea and Atlanta, GA) to the huge, bountiful boats. I have graduated to the sashimi thanks to their clean, fresh tasting fish. The pieces are so mouthwatering good, even my husband tried a few pieces. It's a small restaurant and it fills up fast, so reservations are very smart. However, I've had no problems finding seats during lunch. They make everything fresh, so be prepared to wait a little bit, but it's not a ridiculous wait even during their busiest times. The waitstaff is never idle and your water glass is never empty. You can not go wrong dining in this restaurant. Enjoy!

Pros: Fresh, crisp, clean tasting sushi. Great service.

Cons: A little on the small size. Some tables are a bit too close together.

The Pad Thai is outstanding as are the curry dishes. The Tom Ka is some of the best I've had anywhere. The sushi is consistently good. All in all, and excellent restaurant.

Pros: Great food, friendly atmosphere

Cons: small, can get crowded in the evening.

Kid friendly to normal children

by dogs308

The family that went there on July 29, 2006 and said it was not kid friendly were wrong. Everyone in the restaurant applauded when they were kicked out. We were nearby and their kids were screaming, kicking, and throwing things. They were little monsters and spoiled our otherwise great meal! This is a restaurant that loves most children.

Pros: fresh food

Cons: sometimes crowded

Consistently excellent food and service at Sushi-Thai in Cary

by mdbft

Have eaten dinner with Sushi-Thai in Cary (dine in or take out) for many years now. Have never had a bad meal. Am not a sushi eater, but love the Thai and/or Japanese dishes there. The wonderful owners know how to offer top notch service and a warm welcome every time I go. The teriyaki dishes, the pad Thai and all the delicious appetizers, including the Ebi Ten (sp?) are ALWAYS good. Yes it is somewhat expensive - but you get what you pay for - the value of the good food and excellent service here is worth the price - every time! Cary is very fortunate to have a neighborhood restaurant of the qualiity of Sushi-Thai!

Pros: Excellence in food and service - consistently!

Cons: crowded - (not really a con) -do take out those times

Best Sushi in the Triangle

by gts92483

Sushi-Thai Cary provides the best creations and freshest sushi to the table every time I go, which is once a week. I have always enjoyed every dish, including all Thai food they serve. Personally, I recommend the Mary roll and pudding roll (last is not on the menu, and no it's not made with pudding). Best Thai food I have had there is the Spicy Basil.

And be sure you go to Sushi-Thai Cary, not the one in Raleigh. One is fresh and good, the other is cheap and you can always tell why. Different owners at each one.

Pros: Fresh, Bright, Creative

Cons: Location, Seating for large groups, Relatively Expensive

A Rare restaurant that offers the best of both worlds

by dulitl

The food is so delicious. I've been their numerous times over the past four years and every time I've gone for dinner, there has always been a crowd at the restaurant. Don't be bogged down by a few bad reviews. You can always judge a restaurant by how busy they consistently are. The fish in the sushi is always fresh because you can tell by the color of the dark red tuna and the vibrant color of the raw salmon. I have absolutely no complaints with their sushi. As for their thai food, I've yet to have a thai dish that I haven't enjoyed. Their pad thai and duck dishes are incredibly tasty.

As for the bad things, you may not get the service of a five star restaurant or the best possible table in the house, but I'm always thoroughly impressed with their food. Yes, they may be a bit pricy in comparison to other thai or sushi restaurants, but you get what you pay for, a delicious and consistent meal each and every time.

Pros: Great food

Cons: Service

Gotta be kidding me

by darkblue99

For all you sushi newbies, sushi and Thai does NOT mix. It is a way for non-Japanese restaurants to increase spending per customer, since sushi commands a high price relative to cost.
If a Thai restaurant respects Thai culture and serves kick-ass Thai food, then there's no place for sushi. Have you seen a Japanese restaurant serving Thai?? NO!!!

Wake up people - it's all in the marketing.
Don't get hooked by "stylish" ads and imaging. Sushi is sushi. Thai is Thai.

Pros: Can serve people who are confused about Asian cuisine

Cons: The Real Thai and Sushi are served elsewhere

Wonderful Decor, Food, and Staff

by pmac415

I ate there with my son last night. He wanted to try something new. Not sure if he liked the saki! The sushi and sashimi were excellent. I like traditional japanese food and he wanted something Thai HOT! So we both got what we wanted. The food was really great, and it was brought out as soon as it was cooked. The service there is truly amazing! The staff all work together to help each other and get the food and service to the customer. What a concept! It was really great to be treated so well. And the decor, the boat designs are truly unique. The place is so clean and really nice. We really had a great time. I highly recommend going here for the food, atmosphere, service.

Love It! Love It! Love It!

by catzmeow25

This is a great small sushi restuarant. We go there about 2 times a month. The staff is so friendly and they always remember us. John even named a roll after me b/c I'm picky and want to add or take things from the listed menu, so he created my own roll and always remembers how to make it. They have even gotten me to try new items by giving me just a little taste here or there, some good, some I'm just not brave enough to try (I'm still new at sushi). My fiance even proposed to me there in July. We are hooked! It's like visting old friends every time we walk through the door.

Pros: Friendly staff, great sushi, good family restaurant (older kids) and great first date place

Cons: crowded on the weekends

Toddlers and Infants?

by chillfactor614

I go to this resturant nearly every week with my family. I was there last night when the prior review was written. The review failed to mention the fact that their child was disrupting the atmosphere of the resturant as well as banging plates and silverware on the table. Although I agree it is difficult to control your young children, it is still the responsibility of the parent to make sure they do not ruin the atmosphere of a resturant. I have gone to Sushi-Thai Cary since my little sister was an infant and whenever she got rowdy my parents would take her outisde. This resturant has always served excellent food as well as well as being a great place for kids. The have a great little tradition for birthdays with a gong as well as doing a good job to accomodate children who do not yet share their parent's exotic taste in dining. It is true this is not the place to go if your children tend to be loud and rambuntious; let them go to a Chuck-E-Cheese not a resturant

Great for Children

by charlyandnicole

This is in response to another review. We have been eating at Sushi Thai for many years. We have three children and have been eating at this establishment since my 6-year old was a toddler. They are very courteous to us and our children every time we visit. We love the food and atmosphere and we love the staff. I think that maybe the other reviewer may need to understand that it is a public place and the restaurant needs to be kind to all of their customers. If a child is causing too much of a tantrum, try your food to go.....

Pros: Great Sushi and staff

Cons: None

Great Sushi!

by geoffgrisham

My wife and I eat sushi a lot (a LOT!) and we've come to enjoy Sushi-Thai so much that we hardly ever go anywhere else for sushi anymore. We've introduced many of our friends to Sushi-Thai as well and they love it, too. Now we all meet and enjoy sushi together on a regular basis at Sushi-Thai. We love the atmosphere, the food, and the great service we receive from the sushi chefs and the rest of the staff. These guys are the best!

by jamiejf

We visit a lot of sushi (and Thai) places all over the country (and have been to Thailand & Japan) and Sushi Thai is consistently one of the best we've ever been to. For sushi, good portion sizes (no big rice ball and small fish piece), always fresh and the service is fantastic. A great, friendly place to eat at either the bar or a table. THe selection of sushi is broad, from the basic to the more adventurous, and what's nice is our non-sushi eating friends have a ton of Japanese and Thai entrees to choose from so we can all eat out together. We love this place, and we've been to all the other spots in the triangle area, we drive 25 miles to eat here several times a month at least. Great food! Great people & service! (and no, we're not relatives of the owners/chefs. etc!)

Pros: good portions, fresh fish, great service

BOOM!! GREAT FOOD, FRIENDLY STAFF

by bullseyeguy

Recently I moved to my home in Southern-Wake County and much to my surprise I discovered what I couldnt find in D.C., Florida or Atlanta. What is it you may ask? Its Sushi-Thai! They have the freshest sushi I have ever eaten. The Lobster Bomb has to be the neatest and greatest sushi dish on the planet. The sushi chefs are so knowledgeable and fun to talk to. There is always a good story being told at the sushi bar. We knew we found a great place from the second we walked in the door and were greeted by 5 people. Until the last second you leave when the same people ask how was everything and thanks for coming! We love the Raleigh area so far and one of the main reasons has been SUSHI-THAI in Cary! Try it out, you dont know what your missing!

Pros: food quality, great/friendly staff, huge menu
