I am a certified safety inspector in Virginia. If your passenger mirror is not there in VA it will pass. If the glass is cracked it wont. You can remove the mirror and it will pass. The driver side mirror as well as the rearview mirror have to be there.

They worked on my car in December 2007. Overpriced and shoddy work. Like the title says, I wish I'd read the reviews about them before taking my vehicle there.

I went to a northeastern North Carolina's Merchant's Tire & Auto Ctr. to replace a balding tire. After the car was up on the rack they told me that steel was showing through all of the other three tires. Not thinking, I told them to replace them. I didn't ask to see the tires. After leaving I remembered that one of the tires was brand new. They ripped me off royally.

their object is to rip you off, they checked my car for $40 to tell me that it was a cracked radiator the person helping me told me not to worry that the district manager was there and as soon as he left he would waive the fee, then he told me that i needed a new radiator and it would cost 230 + tax, i told him i couldnt afford it so i went next door and saw they had the same radiator for$100 cheaper and purchased it went back to merchants and then the goofy looking guy who drives the silver ford with the chrome rims told me he would install it for 100 dollars and that he would waive the fee, as soon as it was time for me to pay i then met the service manager dana another goofball charged me 150 dollars i didnt say anything because i felt sorry for the mechanics that work there they were great they deserved a good compliment!

I am not sure if these locations are independently owned or not, but I do advise you to stay away from the Town Village Drive location in Cary. Long story short, they were rotating tires for me and broke a lug on one of the hubs. Tried to say that lug was on crooked, but they are the only ones who touch my tires! Gave me the run around on ordering a new hub for 4 months, and then tried to tell me they would not fix on their dime, but they would "cut me a deal" on the repairs. Give me a break. Whatever happened to customer service and taking responsibility for a mess up. Deal with them at your owm peril. They will never get another dime of my money

I am missing my passenger side mirror which is obvious from first glance. After completing the ENTIRE inspection they came to me and said that I failed inspection due to my missing mirror. I asked why they couldn't have told me that before they performed the entire inspection and an annoying Sales Associate stated that it's the law to inspect anything fully when it's brought in to them. I asked him "So if I brought you half of a car and asked you to inspect it, you would have to legally?" and he said "Yes, any car." When I countered that only the drivers side and inside rear view mirrors are required to pass inspection, they argued that I was wrong and that "he had been doing this for 11 years and someone else must have not been doing their job". I asked for paperwork proving his points and he showed me a poster on the wall which, in no way whatsoever, gave any indication that a passenger side mirror was needed. Instead he stated that "anything the manufacturer puts on the car has to be there to pass inspection. (What about the CD player? or the antenna? or the plastic seat covers?? or the cup holders??? right.) I asked to look at the book of regulations and he told me it wouldn't help anything, that I would still be wrong but gave me the book since I insisted. I immediately turned to the correct page and showed him where it says in NC that you only need the aforementioned mirrors (established on Oct 1 of 1994). Being that this regulation was brought into effect over 13 years ago I can't see how his 11 year expertise would have missed that. How many people have they failed illegally at the customers cost?? He also blamed his lack of knowledge on the fact that the auditors weren't doing their job correctly, making sure everyone knew everything. I don't recommend taking your vehicle to anyone who obviously know less than I do about cars.

These guys did our front brakes, and replaced a front driveshaft. Now, brakes shudder (warped rotors), and transmission was destroyed by incorrectly installed new drive shaft ($3500!!!). Then, it took them four months to decide that they were not responsible for damage. Higher-ups at company did not respond to written requests. Not a member of the Better Business Bureau. Avoid this place at all costs.

I brought my Jeep here hoping to get my tires changed and my brakes replaced without it costing an arm and a leg. Needless to say Merchants did an excellent job in fixing my car. I have not had any problems with my car ever since then! Best of all the prices were very reasonable compared to other auto centers where I had gotten outrageous quotes from. I highly recommend Merchants for anyone with car problems.

Went in for an oil change and after the car was back I was informed that the oil would be $3 extra a quart for my car so a coupon for a $12 oil change ended up being $32 after extra. Good thing is the tire rotation was included. And very nice staff. Alerted me of the price before they chaged oil.
