Most of theses reviews were written by the same person. If you look, there are legitimate reviews in 2002, the next one is in 2005, then a couple in 2006 then one in 2008. Then there are 10 reviews in a row giving it 5 stars that were written in a 2 week period between September 6th and 21st 2009. What a load of horse cronkie. Try to be less obvious next time

East Village just might be the breeding ground for the next surge of patriotic pride. One visit here and you??ll completely forget how upset you were over the sale of Budweiser to that Belgian company.

Pros: Great beer

Cons: Glasses aren't big enough

The men's bathroom is disgusting. It smells like vomit and pee. It was painted with white primer too. What a low rent place!

I went in there with some of my girlfriends the other night and we sat at the corner table. I was astonished by the arrogance of the bartender, Wes. He acted like he was God's gift to women or something. He must have been having a bad night because he barely said two words to us as he slung our drinks at us. We weren't expecting him to flirt with us but we didn't expect him to be downright rude. We asked for our bill and left. We headed to another bar where we were treated with a little more respect. We wound up spending over $200 that night (and we tipped accordingly). I am telling everyone I know what a lame place East Village is.

Obviously the owners or managers at EV have stacked some positive reviews to counteract the negative reviews on this site. This place is hardly worth 5 stars. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! Today I went in and ordered the maple wings. What I got was the Buffalo wings. I thought, ok, I'll deal with it. The wings tasted terrible. The sauce wasn't hot nor did it evenly coat the wings. Then, about the 5th wing, I found a long blonde hair. I am shaved bald and brown-haired so it obviously wasn't mine. Then on the bottom of the basket underneath the wings I found pieces of food not belonging to my order that were undeterminable origin. I am abslutely disgusted with this place. I am sickened just thinking about my experience here today - so bad, that I am reporting them to the health department. I wouldn't give them one star but I had to so I could publish this review.

Cons: IT'S A DUMP!

No trip to NCSU would be complete without a stop here for good chow and cold suds. As long as you are "of age", you will be welcomed with open arms by the staff and fellow patrons, as well. Two thumbs up for East Village - and thanks to Jo for her hospitality!

Pros: Friendly staff and terrific atmosphere

Cons: A larger deck would surely be utilized

This review is coming from a guy who has been to nearly every bar in Raleigh. During my lengthy tenure at NC State, I went to bars all over the area. Once I came accross East Village, I knew I had a winner. The Coors Light special is tough to beat, and the staff is phenomenal. I will always go back to East Village and have recommend many others to do the same.

During my time at N.C. State University I spent the majority of my weekend nights trolling from bar to bar in search of a good time. It wasn't until I graduated and was introduced to East Village that I had my own "college bar." East Village is everything you could want: cheap drinks, great food, outdoor seating, and an excellent staff. The staff goes out of their way to ensure you will too call them your favorite college bar. From the smiling faces when you walk in the door to the exceptional service this bar knows how to treat the customer.

If anyone is searching for a great atmosphere, where you will be treated right than East Village is your place. You will not be disappointed you did.

I could not agree more with the posting below - the one about a great college bar. I went to Penn State and had a favorite bar there - "The Skeller" - and East Village has all the same great qualities!! Over the last 1o years 3 of my sons have attended (and graduated from) NCSU and this is simply the best place to go to have a relaxing and fun evening with one or more of your kids. The bartenders and waitstaff there are fabulous - they are fun, attentive to your needs, and simply make you want to come back again and again. In all the years I have been going to East Village, I have NEVER seen anything like what was described below in a negative review.
If you are reading this to decide if you want to go to East Village, my suggestion is to go and decide for yourself - you will be glad that you did!!!!

Pros: Friendly wait staff, great college bar atmosphere

Cons: deck is too small!

As a father of a son, who is spending his second year at NC State University, I have spent my fair share of evenings enjoying the overall atmosphere that the East Village Deck provides. I wanted to be sure to go out of my way and recommend East Village to anyone that is looking for a good college bar. As soon as I stepped out onto the front deck, it immediately took me back to my days in college at my favorite bar, "The Sloth". There is no subsitution for the feeling you get when you enjoy a cold beer as the sun sets over hillsborough st. Not only is the bar great, but the entire wait staff and bartenders quickly accomodate to every need. In my opinion there is not a better place to get a good meal, and a good beverage after a long day.

Throughout my college days I have been to quite a few different bars in the Raleigh area. I knew after the first night that I spent at East Village, my search for a bar to attend on a nightly basis was done. You might be asking, "What was it that is so special about this bar?" Well, I will answer you. The bartenders do an excellent job at making sure that your drink orders, mine usually being the $1.75 Coors Lite special, are taken and prepared quickly and efficiently. I have honestly never been disappointed with a drink that was prepared by the bartenders; this includes all of the shots and mixed drinks I have had. Secondly, the staff is always very receptive and polite. I was shocked to read the reviews written below because I would never imagine the bar manager would do such a thing. She has always been extremely nice and works very hard. I really appreciate how the bartenders and staff work to develop relationships with their customers. They do such a good job that the atmosphere feels like one giant family. I look forward to spending may more nights at East Village and I hope to see everyone out there too!

Please don't let Kris30's review entitled "The Bar Manager Needs to be Fired" influence your decision on wheither or not to go to East Village. You see what Kris30 left out of his review (because I was actually at the bar when this outburst happened, I know) is that his friend who wouldn't hurt a fly started flying off her hinges because the bouncer wouldn't let her in, on account of the fact that she was using a fake ID. Now, it is quite apparent that Kris30 slept alone that night and in his disgruntled confusion about leaving the bar alone, he felt compelled to ruin East Villages reputation. I would like to clarify on this review board that East Village is actually quite a friendly and professional establishment. I've never run into a circumstance where the staff mis-treated a customer. In addition it's not just the service that keeps me coming back, all of their beers are real cheap and the food is tasty. I highly recommend becoming an east village patron!

Pros: $1.75 Coors Light Pints All day Everyday

I came across a few postings on Citysearch regarding the East Village staff and was astonished. I have personally found the entire staff, especially the bar manager, to be nothing but friendly, courteous, and respectful. I truly hope that anyone that was led to believe otherwise will give East Village another chance; the staff is the best in town and would never intentionally disrespect a customer. There simply is not a better place in Raleigh for food and drinks.

I wanted to be sure to comment on the disgruntled reviews regarding the East Village staff. It??s amusing to me that someone is upset because their friend got kicked out of a bar and was treated disrespectfully on the way out. I have been thrown out of a bar or two and have rarely been treated with respect on the way out; if anyone makes a scene in a bar or tries to get in with a fake ID then they deserve to be removed by any means necessary. I have spent enough time at East Village to know and trust that the bar staff would never throw out a customer without just cause and would never go out of their way to embarrass a customer in doing so. East Village is always a great place to hang out, and I wouldn??t change a thing about it. It is nice to go to a hometown bar and know that all the friendly faces behind the bar are going to take good care of you.

In response to the previous ridiculous review, I happened to witness that incident. If you don??t want to be embarrassed, tell your friend not to use a fake id, make a scene in the parking lot, insult the staff, call the police to file a complaint, and then sneak into the bar. Then the bar manager wouldn??t have to throw ice at the window to get the door guy??s attention to drag your underage friend out of a college bar. Regulars at East Village would know better so pretend you frequent another Hillsborough Street locale with your THREE total friends in tow.

I went with a group of about 20 friends to East Village last week, and my friend was treated so disrespectfully and unprofessionally by your "Bar Manager" (some blonde with a serious attitude problem) that we all ended up leaving! First your manager fussed her out outside of the bar for simply trying to get her drivers license back and when my friend came in to get the car keys to go home, the manager cussed her out in front of the entire place and threw ice at her! In front of everyone, it was so immature and ridiculous that you lost a group of 20 people that night and probably for good unless something is done about the management of this place. We were all regulars, but to see someone that i know wouldn't hurt a fly treated like Sh** in front of an entire bar full of people I don't think any of us will ever come back, and I would not recommend this place to anyone else either!

I loved East Village in grad school and still occasionally make it down there, especially in nice weather to sit on the patio. They have great "bar food" at good prices, and good service. It's kid friendly, particularly if you sit outside.

East Village was my old stomping grounds in college, and it never fails to satisfy every time I go back! The food is great as far as bars go (especially the wings!). You can't beat the drinks specials, and it's always the place to go when the Pack's playing!
I've spent many nights there with friends, and it's always the go to place when I'm back in town visiting.

This is a great bar but their bar manager is the worst in Raleigh. I have been going to this bar for many years and I have seen bar managers come and go and this one needs to go. She is often ill-tempered and takes it out on the patrons and the staff. Her name is Jo by the way and she is bringing the place down.

I have been going to East Villiage since it opened in 1992. I was a college student then, but I haven't out grown the laid-back atmosphere and fun food. The beer is always cold and the staff is always friendly. Best time for post college grads is after work.

it's really a nice place to have a dinner with your friends/classmates, since it's just outside NCSU and typically you can have a lot of foods and drinks within 8$ per person.

East Village is the best bar at NC State. You can walk there to and from campus very easily, the beer is cheap, and the outdoor deck is awesome. It's a great place to watch away games (or home games that you didn't win tickets for) and the atmosphere is always fun. I've made the best friends of my life on the deck of EV. Just get there early on the night of the Hillsborough Hike!

I love this place. Very relaxing, good prices, decent service, never too crowded. The food is pretty good too. But if your only complaint is the food then try somewhere else. I like going to a bar to drink beer and hang out with friends, especially on a big deck. If you want good food go to a restaurant.

East Village was a fine restaurant and bar upon its inception in 1992. But 10 years of hard use leads one is to accept the fact that a deteriorating building must yield the same product out of both its kitchen and bar. As this fact stands, The East Village leaves little to the imagination. If a boat is about to sink, the crew does not paint it a new color in hopes of keeping it afloat. It is a sad fact that a new deck (or whatever renovations) can not make a floatable ship out of the EV. The food is still the same, and though the beer is cheap, the atmosphere is on a downward spirial. I think it's time to cut the rope and let this old boat bring in the encroaching barnicles.

A low-key bar populated with sports fans and NC State students. Drink specials are great and deck is nice on cooler summer evenings.
