XIOS is exactly what I have been looking for in a Greek restaurant for a long time. It is hard to come by a place that has great decor, great staff, and great food without the prices being outrageous. What is even better is that you don't even have to go all the way into downtown Raleigh to find a decent place like this.

Nestled in a shopping center on the corner of Hwy 55 and Apex Peakway, right down the strip from Rudinos, next to a dry cleaner, and surrounded by several grocery stores, it is incredibly convenient for anyone who lives in the Morrisville/Apex/Cary/Holly Springs area. It's so easy to pick up the dry cleaning, eat dinner, and grab groceries on the way home. It's also just down the road from the Brier Creek shopping center in Apex.

Every time we have been there, the food has been excellent and the wait staff very courteous. One of my favorites is their house Greek salad with gyro lamb meat on it - it's the perfect portion size and definitely filling. I've tried most of their appetizers - there is something for everyone. They even have several "platters" that give you a little bit of everything on them. Don't forget about dessert, because they have some of the best around. My favorite is the XIOS Baklava Sundae - words can't describe it.

Even if you don't live in Apex, it's worth the trip!

Pros: Outdoor Patio Dining, Decor, Food, Location, Non-Chain

Cons: None that I can think of.

This is my new favorite restaurant! There are so many great choice on the menu to please everyone in my family: me (the adventurous eater), my husband (meat eater), and my daughter (she's 7, enough said). There were lighter choices than I have seen on some Greek menus, which I appreciated.
The service was excellent. The pace of the meal was relaxed and homey.
We live in Apex, but if you don't, it is worth the trip!

When I first moved to Apex 4 years ago I frequented this restaurant during my pregnancy. I returned 2 years ago after I moved to Fuquay-Varina and noted that the food quality had gone down as well as the portion size. The service was spotty as well. I left a review but I can't find it. I see other older reviews but mine is gone. Odd. I stand on the opinion that Nikos is a much more authentic restaurant as I have dined there with true Greeks. I think if XIOS would mend its consistency problems (I see others have complained as well) then it would be a 5 star restaurant.

It was cold in there. I felt they were trying to save money by keeping heat down.

I got gyro, she got sampler. I didn't like the gyro that much, not the soup or potatoes either. She thought grape leaves were not bad and two of the three items from the sampler. She didn't like the Greek lasagne.

Service was slow, left restaurant with an empty cup sitting there for like 10 minutes.

Waiter was nice, dressed appropriately. Lighting was okay and overall room was not bad.

I would not recommend this to anyone. If you want gyro, go to Nur Delhi at Mission Valley near NCSU.

My husband and I were at this restaurant the week it opened. The food is consistent every time we are there, great service, and surprisingly kid friendly! A fantastic wine list and great bar as well. Don't turn down dessert if you can help it...the baklava and rice pudding are some of the best I've ever had!

I've tried Xios on several occasions when a Greek craving occurred and found the menu too limited. The menu needs to be expanded to include the many varieties that the Greek folks have to offer. Service and quality was good, but a bit pricey for the type and quantity of food you receive.

My husband and I found a jewel one day a couple of years ago at the work food court. A restaurant by the name of XIOS was serving Greek food for lunch and it was a nice change from the normal food served in the cafeteria. I approached them afterwards and inquired where in the area they were located. I was shocked to find out, not only was I speaking to the owner, but that they were located less than a mile from our house! Apparently I had been driving right by them for over 2 years.

Since then, we try to frequent the restaurant often. My husband and I really like to dine at locally owned and operated restaurants as we feel putting our money directly back into the local economy ultimately benefits us in the long run. Every time we dine at XIOS, we are personally greeted and always feel welcome. We get top class service and the food is scrumptious. I am a sucker for their Spanakopita and they have, hands down the best house salad dressing ever!

It's so nice to have a Greek restaurant in the neighborhood and I hope they are here for years to come. We appreciate the interest they have in the local economy and it is so refreshing to have a non-corporate, family-owned, one of a kind European Restaurant.

And if you are looking for a romantic atmosphere for Valentine's Day, look no further. They've had a great special date night every year and I sincerely hope they will do it again on 2-14-10. They belly dancer was a nice added touch as well. :)

I can not address whether this is authentic Greek food or not. This evening my husband and I decided we wanted to try Greek food as a new experience. He ordered a seafood entree that was rather bland and had lots of penne and little seafood. I order a chicken gyro. I am not fond of lamb and had tried chicken gyros at two other places. When I received my entree I wondered how deep into the gyro the chicken was but figured it was there. When I started eating I actually had to stop and ask my husband if he believed the substance in the Gyro was chicken ( I had mistaken what was supposed to be chicken as part of the pita roll) or something else. It resembled a chicken McNugget in texture and flavor was similar with few added distinctions.

I understand that it might not be normal to order a chicken gyro however reading that this place makes food from scratch and is authentic I was surprised that they used processed chicken that I related to McNuggets.

The server apologized and offered to bring me other food (at this point the idea of this quality of chicken had turned my stomach and quite frankly annoyed me). When it came time to pay I did ask to speak with the manager as the waitress said she had been approved to take half off however I had no intention of paying for a processed chicken gyro that I barely touched.

The manager explained that Wake County Health rules, that because they served fewer chicken than lamb, that because they would soon not be able to serve gyros, that some customers have chicken thigh meat used as special requests, etc was the reason for the processed chicken. He explained that all places in the area used this processed chicken if they sold chicken gyros. This is all fine and of no concern of mine ... I order chicken and expected chicken and not some processed by product or whatever that was.

The manager was polite and once the conversation was ended my meal was taken to $0 on the bill.

I believe the staff tried to make sure I was satisfied however I will be trying other Greek restaurants in the future. I will also remember to ask about any chicken used as it had not occurred to me that a processed chicken slab would show up in this type of setting.

The calamari was absolutely perfect! It's been a long time since I've had calamari that didn't taste like little rubber bands. The pastries were excellent, the seasonings were incredible, and the decor was wonderful! I'm adding this to my list of favorite restaurants.

XIOS is a fantastic restaurant! The Greek food is fabulous. I love the way you can order small portions of lots of different foods to make up your meal instead of one large entree. That way, you get to try several different things. There are many, many healthy choices on the menu for people trying to watch what they eat. And, the hummus is truly the best I've ever had! We eat at XIOS regularly. The patio in the spring, summer, and fall is great, especially for families with kids.

I moved to Apex when I was 5 months pregnant and was craving Greek so i tried XIOS. I immediately liked the decor and my server was really nice. After about 3 visits for lunch, I was quickly realizing their prices were so high I couldn't get everything I wanted. The soup is a tiny tiny portion and everything took a long time. I wasn't working so I didn't mind too much, but I can't imagine work lunches going well here. Then I decided to drag my husband there for supper. It was summer and they decided to have a band outside. They opened the doors so there were bugs and flies coming in (GROSS) and it was so loud! He did not care for the food nor the price. I tried ONE more time on a night they advertised belly dancing. No belly dancer. So if you rate them ONLY on food - it's good. Everything else? Not so good.

The food was excellent, and the variety on the menu was perfect to suit any mood or taste. The service was OK, and the food took a while to get to the table, but when you're having a date out, who cares about the time? It was worth the drive from Durham and I look forward to going again.

I've been to Xios several times, for both eat-in and take-out. In most cases, the food has been fairly good. I had struggled to find good Greek food in the Triangle and this seems to fit the bill. My family and I have tried many of the dishes and generally have been pleased.

What has kept me from returning to Xios is the inconsistencies in everything else. Rarely did I get good service, and my take-out orders were almost always wrong. They were typically off in just a small way, so it wasn't awful, but I wasn't ordering anything unusual either. Still, the food was good. (You should also note the hours are fairly limited -- don't try to go after 2pm and get lunch!)

The part that bothered me the most is that the prices were also inconsistent. I have been in several times to try and order a Mezethes lunch special and not once have I successfully been charged the price that is still on their online menu. It's supposed to be more affordable than buying everything separately, but they always charge me the higher price -- and the prices aren't exactly cheap to begin with, so the lunch special was especially appealing to me. Even worse, the price they charged was different every time. I've tried to ask about it but they're never willing to talk with me, and just say that's the price so pay up. I suppose I should take this to the manager but at this point I'm just looking for another Greek restaurant in the area. The Xios food is good, and if they can fix their customer service problems, I might go back.

I am Greek and grew up in a Greek restaurant. I cook Greek at home and I will have to say I have been to many Greek restaurants around this area and XIOS by far is the most authentic Greek cuisine that I have found. Don't get me wrong it is not even close to my Greek meals at home :-),but even Greeks get tired of cooking. LOL. Next best thing to my kitchen is XIOS. I will recommend it to anyone that loves Greek food or never had Greek food. Truly great flavor and the quality of food is exceptional. I never had a problem with any staff or waiters so I don't know why some of the other people had troubles with that there. When you think of Greek food XIOS is the place to go in the APEX/CARY area. Price, well yeah... a little high and portions could be a little bigger, but again true authentic Greek food.

I've been a customer at XIOS for a few months now, and I have to say, I love this restaurant! Everytime we walk in their is great service from start to finish. I am always greeted with a smile and prompty seated. The servers are warm and helpful and never comment on my horrible pronounciation of the Greek foods. The atmosphere is very family friendly, and the food is to die for! While my favorite dish is either the gyro or lemonato(pork and potatoes in a lemon sauce), I have tried almost everything on the menu and it is all very fresh and flavorful. They also have a very extensive wine selection, and while I am not really a big drinker, I do like their wines, especially the Demetri Red. To top it off, the entire menu is very reasonably priced, so I don't feel guilty about eating out. XIOS has great food, service and prices, what more can I ask for?

After a few visits to this restaurant I've found the food is not consistent. Some entrees have been consistently good like the Garides Saganaki, but the special sea bass I ordered most recently (1/25/08) was overcooked, charred on the outside, and very bland. It was not at all what the server described it as. The sides are usually sauteed vegetables and rice or potatoes, and the vegetables are always soggy and lack flavor. They seem to hire young and inexperienced servers here. On our most recent visit we ordered wine and our waitress failed to bring us any glasses of water. After bringing our food she disappeared, and the restaurant was not at all busy at the time. We finished our entrees, she never came to check on us or refill drinks. We kept glancing around the room looking for her, other servers saw us looking around but never approached our table to help. The hostess was standing at her station talking to 3 of the male waiters, they obviously had nothing to do. Finally my husband stood up and walked around the restaurant looking for her and she finally appeared out of the kitchen, we asked for the check and promptly left. If this restaurant wants any more of my business they need to step up the flavor of their dishes and hire some more experienced help.

If this restaurant wants any more of my business they need to step up the flavor of their dishes and hire some more experienced help.

Pros: appetizers, nice atmosphere

Cons: sometimes bland and improperly cooked entrees, service

Consistency of the Tsatziki was somewhat thick, but I couldn't taste any garlic. Thicker, more garlicky tsatziki is what I remember from my two visits to the Peloponnese and Central Greece--the type Athena Greek Taverna (AGT) in Winston makes. If you don't much care for garlic, you may love Xios' tsatziki.
The pita bread that came with the tsatziki was a bit cold and spongy (somewhat like Ethiopian bread). AGT's pita bread is hot, buttery, and a delight. I didn't think pita bread could make a difference when eating tsatziki, but now I know better.

The greek salad that came along with the entrees had *no kalamata olives*. What is a good greek meal without kalamata olives--one of the unique joys of greek food.

The pasticio was a bit greasy and salty, and the portion was somewhat small (compared with AGT--always have leftovers to take home). It's worth the trip to Winston to get better pasticio.

I didn't order the baklava because I'd been so poorly disappointed with the tsatziki. AGT's baklava is fresh, dripping with honey, and they give a huge portion (easily shared by two). To me, a perfect greek meal begins with thick, garlicky tsatziki and ends with baklava fit for the Gods.

The good news is that the eggplant in the mousaka was cooked properly. The taste was a bit salty and still not as good as what I've had on the Greek mainland, but Xios did a fine job there. Better than AGT's mousaka (the one thing I won't order there).

Conclusion:

A bit pricier than AGT, and they just didn't get the tsatziki right. I won't be going back.

Overall, I think most people will enjoy Xios. Those who've never eaten greek food on the greek mainland (or haven't been to AGT) probably won't know what they're missing. My review is based on my own tastes and experience. I think I'll be making the pilgrimage to Winston for quite some time to get the type of food I remember during my travels. It's *so* worth the drive.

Pros: clean and friendly

Denise and Kirk Hatzidakis have created a chic, fun and DELICIOUS Greek experience that reflects the atmosphere and flavors of Kirk's birthplace, the lovely island of Xios. I don't like eggplant as a general rule, but I can't resist ordering their mouth-watering "Melitzana Iman" every time I walk in! They have a delicious wine list, the mezethes are second to none, and the music is an exciting mix of traditional and modern Greek. The belly-dancing is absolutely professional and delightful - they encourage young and old alike to try it out - you should see the kids learning an ancient mode of movement, lovely to watch! The service is top-notch as well. All in all, a romantic evening well spent for very reasonable prices!

I have spent many years in Detroit, where Greektown rules and fresh Greek cuisine is easy to find. Recently moving back to NC, I tried several okay Greek restaurants, but had a hard time finding real, fresh and authentic Greek food -- and then I found XIOS. XIOS has it all, as well as the best rice pudding and lemon rice soup, great wines, great atmosphere and live entertainment. You can't go wrong at XIOS.

This place has very delicious and extremely well-priced Greek food, with beautiful ambiance. The service is usually really good - sometimes they get too busy and might forget to check on you, but it is truly a great place. I used to eat meat until recently so I have tried all the dishes; now I pick mostly vegeterian dishes. Only wish is that they would go easier on the salt but I am usually on low tolerance in that category. Great and highly recommended!

WE dined here last evening. The "strip mall" location made us wonder if we'd made a mistake. However, once inside, we were VERY pleased with everything about this authentic Greek eatery. Try the $20 per person "sampler" meal- just awesome- you won't be disapponted!
Highly recommend and can't wait to return.
