We have been with Nationwide for many years with no problems. We have auto insurance on one vehicle (an '89 Buick) and renter's insurance. Over the past year they have become more trouble than they're worth. Our month payments were deducted from our account at one time but for whatever reason they didn't apply our payments properly and our insurance was cancelled. We didn't receive any notification and had no knowledge that we were without auto insurance for 2 months b/c the payment was deducted from our checking. We nearly lost our tags for a period b/c of this and that would have really put us in a bind as you can imagine. Do you think they intervened with the DMV on our behalf? No. My DH had to miss work to rectify the situation and we had to pay a $50 fee to the DMV. All we received from Nationwide was an apology. We understand that mistakes happen and since we have been with them for so many years with no problems we didn't shop for a new agent. Apparently that was a mistake. We discontinued autopay and physcially mailed our checks in monthly. A couple of months ago I received a notice of cancellation on renter's insurance policy along with a check. I immediately called and they saw where they received the check but didn't apply it to our account in time. So, they had to write up yet another policy for us and I put our payments back on auto pay. Everything was taken care of so we should have been good to go right? Wrong. I got another letter in the mail this month cancelling our renter's insurance and a notice saying that our car insurance was going to be $49 a month for a vehicle that's worth $200. Mind you, my husband and I both have perfect driving records. I called, yet again! I explained to them that our rental agreement states that we must carry renter's insurance and they could terminate our lease over these lapses. I highly doubt they would but that's not the point! I was apologized to numerous times and that's all lovely and stuff but actions speek louder than words. The lowest they can get our insurance payments are $37 a month and that's till rediculous. It shouldn't cost more than $20 to carry insurance on that vehicle IMO. We'll be carrying our insurance with a new agent ASAP and we will have to pay to cancel our policy (per NC state law) b/c our term is up. It's only $25 but that's not the point. Our term would be up if they didn't have to rewrite our policy and start a new term 3 times over in the past 12 months!!!
