Ordered take out on Super Bowl Sunday. The wings had hardly any meat on them. They tasted like they were cooked once and re-cooked again. If your looking for wings I would highly recommend somewhere else.

GREAT WINGS! I drive all the way down from Durham just to get these wings. Always cooked thru, big, tender, and juicy. Try the sheran harris if you like heat. They are hot enough to satisfy, but not so hot that you can't eat them. The texas toast that comes with each order is a nice compliment also.

I went with my husband, two kids and 3 friends to this place for the first time last friday. I will never go back. We walked in on a friday night and proceeded to find a place to sit. There was a full house but we found a booth to accomodate us. Whoops...table dirty and still had last customers food on it. So we backed up and waited by the front door until we could ask someone to clean it. A waitress approched us soon after and told us to go ahead and have a seat at the dirty table. She said she would be by in a few minutes to clean the table. We did not sit. Just waited for the table to be cleaned. Finally got seated. Waitress took our drink order and said she would be back in a few minutes. Came back about 10 minutes later with drinks and took our food order. Food took about 1/2 hour. We ordered 2 dozen wings, a chicken salad, a cheese burger and a roast beef sandwich. In the mean time....one of our friends at the table ordered wings to-go. By the time we were finished with our meal and the check came, we were wondering what happened to the to-go order. The waitress said, "oh my gosh, they didn't bring it to you?. Let me go check on that." Of course the food was not prepared. There was also a problem with the bill. At the bottom of the receipt...the bill jumped from $81.00 to $122.00. When my friend went to inquire about it.....that was a whole other mess. Just an aweful experience. SUCKED!!

I am visiting in Cary, NC for a week, and I had a severe hankering for buffalo wings. After doing some research on the web, I wanted to give Em R Wings a try. I looked at their website to make sure it would be open after my girlfriend and I saw a movie, and the website claims it's open Tuesday - Saturday from 11 AM to 10 PM. Well it's a Thursday and I showed up there at 9:25 PM, starving, and found the place locked up with no lights on.

Even the sign on the door says it should be open until 10 PM on a Thursday night. There was no sign saying "sorry we closed early tonight" or "didn't you know it's "Labor Day II?"

Unprofessional to say the least, and very dissappointing.

The wings are way too dry and lack sauce. I'm not sure about the owner, I've never had a bad encouter with management. I just figured the wings would have been much better if that's what your restaurant is named after

My wife and two young boys had a good time at Em-R Wings. The food is tasty (good wings and sandwiches), our server was friendly, and the prices reasonable. The manager John was really nice to us too. While it is tucked away in the back of the building, it is one of those hidden places you would go back to. We will definately be returning again soon.

Outstanding wings! It's been some time since we've been able to go there, but it they had great wings. The other food is good as well. We mainly did take-out so I don't remember the inside or staff very well. It is worth a visit to check out. I wish we got over that way more often.

The family came in to the restaurant in a rowdy fashion and the children were not well behaved or quiet. One of them kept requesting, with temper tantrums, to go outside and see the "pretty motorcycles" out front, so the father obliged about 7 or 8 times, going in and out each time and bothering the owners of the motorcycles and other bar customers. I saw the father leaving right when the food came out. I went outside to investigate.I asked what the problem was and they did say "the food took to long". I agreed with them and told them that there was a large order prior to their's and that delayed their order. The father said" that is ridiculous because there was no one else in the restaurant but them" and I said we also do take-out orders as well. HIS wife then told him to go pay for the food so I would not call the cops for fraud, she was very embarrased by his behavior and his yelling in front of their kids in public. Upon paying the bill he said he "was a regular customer" and he asked if the restaurant was under new owners. We have owned em r wings for 8 years and he did not know that plus none of the staff recognized them and we are there everyday. Not very regular at all. He then said that "it was not that much money .why the big deal". I asked him "if someone took 40 bucks from you would it matter or would your boss care if you took 40 bucks from him". NO response, I guess stealing is OK with him. He then tried to use his kids as the excuse for him acting like he did and I said "you chose to bring them here so stop trying to blame them for you acting like a fool, not a pro-choice or life thing at all. GET A GRIP. if he would have mentioned there was a problem instead of sneaking out of the restaurant like a common criminal there would not have been a problem but he had lost his patience with his kids and felt he could act anyway he wanted and he did. I was protecting my interests by getting money owed to me by the fraudulent customer. .

Pros: nice neighborhood pub

Cons: not big enough

.

In response to lun007's review:
I was one of the customers on his advice to try the place out. Good wings - good drink prices were his comments. I know other people who have also taken his advice. I was not impressed personally by the atmosphere. Pretty 'neighborhood bar' type of place, but good wings and drink prices.
Lun007 related his recent experience on 10/08 with the night manager. I agree with the actions taken by the customer. Waiting for 30 minutes with three hungry kids is not a pleasant experience. Children need to stay active. They left to find another restaurant to get some food. This action brought the manager to confront them. The manager said there was a big order of wings that delayed their service. I question his reasoning. They could have delivered the children's food and the salad. Why is it so important to deliver all the food at the same time? Is that considered good service?
The real kicker is the manager's response to the question about having to sit 30 minutes with hungry kids - "that's why I'm pro-choice." Is he saying that he'd rather terminate a child's life than have to raise them? That comment justifies a sign on the door that says "NO CHILDREN".
Area residents of RTP - it is a sad mental attitude that our population has developed. Might I say a sickness that can cripple a society. That we have to live and associate with such irresponsible neighbors is a reflection of how our nation has morphed into such a putrid state since Roe v. Wade, better stated - the pill.
If the manager is also the owner, he should close the restaurant until he has healed from his sickness and also aplogize to the community if and before he reopens.
If the manager is not the owner, he should be fired for voicing his personal views before a room full of customers and possibly producing injury beyond repair to a business that provides the means for his survival.
I sincerely ask that you join me to boycott EMR WINGS in Apex, NC.

After years of being semi-regular customers and bringing numerous friends (who also became semi-regulars) to the establishment, we will never, ever go back to Em R Wings again. Here's what happened to us the last time we attempted to eat there:

We were having our floors re-done so we needed to eat out for a few nights. Wings sounded good so we went to Em R Wings for a bite. After sitting down we were given the menus and drinks in the normal delivery time. A few minutes later we ordered the following:
1 chicken salad, 2 corn dogs and 2x 10 piece wing orders.
Not what I would call an outrageous order.
After over 30 minutes of waiting with 3 kids (who were well behaved), we left $2 for the $1.50 beer and walked out.
The owner comes out in the parking lot to find us pulling out. (needless to say we are hungry & upset about the service)
He is yelling at my wife about calling the cops because we "walked out" on the bill. I told him that we paid for what we consumed, but he was having none of that. (keep in mind everyone in the van wants what they ordered)
I get out of the van telling him in the calmest voice I could find "to pack up the food to go, let me pay you in cash so I can never come back."
I go inside to pay & old boy and he starts ripping me a new one about how much money "%$#@ like this costs him". During this whole time he will not stop claiming that he is "calling the police for theft".
I tell him again if he is going to call the police he should go ahead and do it.
This is where it gets good.
I ask him if he has any kids and has had to wait for over 30 minutes for food. He replies " $&** no, and that's why I'm Pro Choice." Wow, I didn't know you could say stuff like that and still operate a business.
More power to you brother.
So I guess this explains 2 things -
1. Why there is no kids menu.
2. Why we and our friends will never eat there again.

Good-bye Em R Wings, we'll miss the cigarettes while being served with wings.

Dirty place, bad staff and for this place to be a specialty wing joint, they have a lot of explaining to do. Inconsistant sauce, bad produce, weak portions of Blue Cheese or Ranch. For example I order 25 wings, they give me 2 ozs of just one kind of dressing? She likes Blue Cheese I like Ranch, duh. They charge extra for a second dressing with an order of 25 wings, I could maybe understand on 10 wings, but on 25? Give me a break you cheap skates.

I really wanted to like this food. We ordered wings (hot), onion rings (most were burnt), "batter-fried fries (didn't see any batter and they were limp and lukewarm), and a cheeseburger (it was ok). The wings were a disappointment. Not much meat on them and they were swimming in sauce. Yuk. We'd love to see a Buffalo Wild Wings open around here. We frequented one in Wilmington NC that had the BEST wings around. A large selection of sauces and make sure youask for them RE-GRILLED. Yummy. As far as EMR Wings, we won't be going back.......

I have been a semi regular at EMR for a couple of years, 4 or 5 times a month. You may ask why go back if you?re not satisfied? I will say to you, the reader that EMR Wings is the only game in town and unfortunately, town is growing so fast EMR must think they are good, doing a good job and people are happy. They are wrong; I can honestly assure you they are dead wrong.

I will cut to the chase and tell you, the place is not clean, the service is not good, the staff could care less if your happy or like your food, they change their sauce without warning, either too hot or too mild, their produce is wilted and worse, the place is very smokey and frequented by, in my opinion, unsavory types and lastly they never keep regular hours. They open and close at will and this can create extreme unhappiness when you or your kids are in the mood for wings at 6:45PM and you are told when you call that they are "out of wings" or " felt like closing early" are you kidding? I have called to talk to the owner and no one will put him or her on, they could care less and hang up laughing. There is no solution and I strongly suggest you look for another restaurant. PS. The wings are better than a chain Pizza Store, but still just so-so and way , way over rated. Wings are not that complicated.

Some of the best food is made in "dive" bars, and that's certainly true here. After discovering EM-R a few months ago, they are now a staple around our house on weekends. I'd probably eat there 5 days a week if my diet and stomach could support it.

I think the 2 best thing about their wings are: A) They are lightly breaded, not the fried bread I see in a lot of bars. I'm not even sure if they are breaded at all, or if the crispy outside is just skin. B) They cook them perfectly. There's nothing worse than slimy skin on chicken wings. EM-R cooks them "well done" so that the skin and meat is nice and crispy.

The flavor is definitely not a traditional "buffalo style". There's a lot of black pepper alongside the hotter chilis, which creates a nice, uniqure flavor. They're also not drenched in sauce. The sauce flavorful and potent enough that a little goes a long way.

Wings are served with celery, ranch/blue cheese, and texas toast, so I usually get the 10-wing portion as it pretty much serves as a full meal. For a bar (and make no mistake -- this a is a bar that serves good food, not the other way around), they actually have quite a broad menu. My wife likes the burgers and sandwiches. I've never been able to order anything but the wings there - they're too good.

Some of the best food is made in "dive" bars, and that's certainly true here. After discovering EM-R a few months ago, they are now a staple around our house on weekends. I'd probably eat there 5 days a week if my diet and stomach could support it.

Pros: Best wings in town, cozy atmosphere, local feel

Cons: Service. Not slow, just impersonal.

Em R Wings' " Buffalo style" wings are atrocious! They are the worst that my husband and I have tried in the Apex/Raleigh area. We are from Buffalo, so we know what we're talking about. They just taste like jalepeno peppers; that's it. For them to call the wings "Buffalo style" on their menu is a disgrace! Buffalo Brothers aren't bad. J & S isn't bad. We have come to the conclusion that we'll order wings completely plain and make our own sauce. It's mostly Frank's Red Hot, a tab of butter, a pinch of garlic powder and a pinch of onion powder. Restaurants, listen up! This is the magic potion. Not jalapenos, not chili flakes.

Please, Buffalonians, tell us where to get some genuine wings around here!!!!!!!! Go Sabres!!!!!!

The staff is friendly and the pictures on the wall make for nice conversation pieces. I go there almost weekly and can not wait to go again. A++

Cons: Location Far From Home

I can understand why someone might be unimpressed with this place. It is a dive, but the wait staff was very friendly and prompt. The wings were not the best I ever had, but they weren't the worst either. I very much enjoyed the hot as well as the terriyaki. I would say that if I found myself in Apex and had a hankering for wings I would go there again.

the last reviewer should go back to new york and take all his yankee buddies and family with him! true, em r wings isn't like upstate ny wings, put simply, they're BETTER, WAY BETTER! the wings are really hot, but packed with flavor. I love wings and have to say the shearon harris wings are quite possibly the best I've ever had. it has the atmosphere of a true wing joint and you won't be disappointed.

I am from upstate NY and these wings are horrible.
Batter dipped. then over deep fried to a crisp.
Good thing they were small because they were bad.

They put a soggy cheese toast in the foam box with a bunch of jalepenos.

This was definately a case of Billy-Bob tries to make wings.

D'oh

Em R Wings in Apex is a great good ole boy bar serving some of the best wings in the area. The menu is sparse but people eat here for the wings, cold beer and comaraderie of a small town watering hole. The wings are rated from Plain to Sharon Harris. The Mild and Medium will surely get your attention. One of my favorite places.
