Sam & Bill's Hair Salon at Cameron Village Raleigh

I'd driven by Sam & Bill's nearly every day for the first 9 months I lived in Raleigh, thinking it was just a barber shop. When I realized I couldn't drive 1.5 hours to get my hair done by my former "girl," I saw Sam & Bill's getting great reviews, and gave them a shot.

Amy is exactly what I wanted in a stylist. She took my vague descriptions of what I wanted ("I want it like this, only shorter and blunter") and gave it to me! She took her time looking at my hair, asking what I do to it, what products I use, how long I want to spend on it, etc, and when she finished I actually loved how I looked (none of that, "It'll look better once I wash and style it myself," you know?).

The salon itself is very cute and warm, and parking across the street is sufficient. Even with all the ridiculous construction on Hillsborough/Oberlin, it was easy to get to.

I can't wait to go back!

Moved here from NYC where I loved my stylist.... wanted to find a place I could call home (so to speak). Lindsay is awesome! She knows the right questions to ask to make sure you get EXACTLY what you want! I had long, thick hair and have always been very picky about my hair and who I let cut it. Lindsay is very friendly, extremely professional and even better... was overall just a very nice person. My husband and I enjoyed her work so much, we took out daughters to get their hair done by Lindsay as well. They were excited to get their hair cut after seeing my new, shorter style! Lindsay talked to them about what they wanted, made suggestions and listened to what they asked for and got to work! They left the salon feeling like superstars! Thank you, Lindsay!!! You really do great work!!!!

I really liked Sam & Bill's salon the first few times I went. The atmosphere is wonderful and my hair turned out exactly how I wanted it plus some. My color always is perfect and my hair is silky when I leave. I always get compliments on it.

However, the last time I went I felt as though I should apologize for absolutely nothing. I had not gone back in a while since I travel often, and I was questioned a bit rudely as if I was betraying my loyalty to her. I thought she was joking, but she never even cracked a smirk.
While my color was processing, she left and came back and began washing my hair and combing it out.... that's when I noticed the very distinct smell of smoke on her hands. I don't mind smokers, I'm one myself. But if your hands are in my face and running through my hair, either wash them after you smoke or don't smoke while you are working your shift. Gross.

Pros: Always beautiful hair, listens well

I go to Lindsey - she is incredible, kind and caring. A perfect stylist who knows exactly what she is doing. Everyone at this salon is so nice - the prices aren't ridiculous either. For the first time in my life - someone cut my hair and colored it exactly how I wanted it. I constantly get complements on my hair - never had that before! Lindsey is awesome - once you go to her you will know what I am talking about! The BEST!!!

I had been growing my hair out for three years for Locks of Love and finally cut it in April. I took a lot of time to choose a salon and was less than impressed with the staff and my hair. I let it grow for the past couple months and started looking again. I read the Citysearch reviews and decided on Sam & Bill's. The receptionist was very friendly, which I could not say for the last salon. My stylist, Stephanie, really listened to what I wanted and gave me a cut that fits my style and schedule. I went back to work after my appointment and everyone gushed over my new hairdo. I was nervous to get a new cut the day before my anniversary and a trip to Charleston, but I'm totally glad I did! I have a cut that I can fix quickly during the week or dress it up when I want to go out. Best of all, I can get it to look good myself. Thanks Stephanie! You are awesome!

I got my hair cut and highlighted by Erin @ Sam & Bill's yesterday for the first time. She was so awesome!!! My hair is short and I'm trying to grow it out. I brought in several pictures of cuts and color that I liked and showed them to Erin. She was very helpful in working with me to decide what I really wanted and would look good on me, especially as I grow my hair out. She really listened to what I wanted, and asked me a lot of questions to make sure I would be happy with what she thought would look good, and she explained to me what she was doing as she cut my hair. I love my cut and color!!! She did a fabulous job and she was so friendly!! I have definitely found a new stylist, and I highly recommend her to anyone who is looking.

Pros: Erin did a great job on my hair! Plus, she was super friendly and very helpful!

Cons: A little pricey, but it's in line with most salons in the area. Definitely worth it!

I saw Stephanie @ Sam & Bill's last night for the first time. My hair was long and I hadn't been in a salon in three years due to the haircut from H*ll from another salon. I was nervous but they all put me at ease immediately. When I went in, I didn't even really know what I wanted - Stephanie listened, talked to me and created the look I wanted that I didn't even know I wanted - how great is that? Everyone was friendly, offering something to drink several times. I loved the building, parking was easy - across the street. The pricing was competitive and I was offered, with no pressure, the products used. Stephanie also talked with me while she was finishing my hair, explaining how to get the look once i got home. My hair flatters my face, the color flatters my complexion - all in all, everything I could have wanted. I'm just sad I only "need" to go back every 6-8 weeks!

I have always had a problem getting just an "OK" haircut. Erin has been cutting my hair for the past 4 years. Every time I have gone to her to cut my hair I couldn't have been happier. She is the best and I recommend her to all my friends. THANKS!

Just moved from NY and was worried I would not find a good haircut. I have curly hair. I found this salon on Citysearch and everyone who commented on it was right on the money. The salon is so arty and pretty, with flowers everywhere and gorgeous colors on the walls. I asked for a stylist who would be good with curly hair and was sent to Stephanie. She did a great job. I am so pleased. I even liked how she dried it, which is unusual for me. She was sweet and friendly and made me feel very comfortable. I made an appt for my husband. AND THE PRICES ARE GOOD TOO!

We tried a number of salons before Sam and Bills, sparing no expense and receiving hair services from average to terrible. While making our first appointments (for myself and 3 teenage daughters-all with long hair requiring cuts and highlights) we were so impressed with the diverse, expert level staff, allowing many choices in stylist and schedule. What has kept us at Sam and Bill's for over 4 years is the friendly, down to earth atmosphere at the salon. We look forward to our visits each month- a real treat. Our hair has never looked better (we use Jessica but all of the stylist are wonderful). Unfortunately we are moving and are devastated by the prospects of finding a new 'salon home'. Good reason to come home to Raleigh every couple months!

Went there for the first time with no clue what kind of hair cut I wanted. I felt immediately welcomed by the receptionist & the entire staff as they starting coming in (I had an early appt.). The coffee & muffins were a very nice touch & were delicious (not just generic coffee & stale muffins)-it made me feel like they weren't just throwing something out there to seem nice, but they were actually trying to make you feel at home. While Erin was my stylist, all the others I spoke to seemed equally friendly & helpful. She listened to my opinions, gave her own, and didn't get upset if the two didn't match (unlike some stylist I've had). She was also a huge help in reccommending products that I was curious about, but with zero pressure to buy. After my haircut was finished, she said if I got home & didn't like it, to just call her & she'd work on it some more-best of all, she actually meant it!! I didn't have to though, because I already had a great haircut! Overall, a very good experince-relaxed/friendly atmosphere and very talented staff. The only con might be the price, but it wasn't outrageous-you truly get what you pay for (ie-if you want a $6 haircut, go to FastClips or the like). There's also a first time customer discount on their webpage-so give it a try!

When I walked into Sam and Bill's, I really didn't know what I was looking for. I am just not that tuned into what looks good and what doesn't. Clearly, I needed more than a stylist, but a knowledgeable hair consultant. In Erin's capable hands, I have consistently recieved a stylish, current look that - for the first time for me - garners comments like "where do you get your hair cut?" - and "great hair!" For reliable, friendly, professional service, I would recommend Erin and the rest of the staff at Sam and Bill's to anybody.

Everytime I have had my hair colored at Sam and Bill's it has turned out beautiful. I get so many compliments. I feel so welcome when I go there and feel like I have known my stylist, Sandy, forever. She is awesome!! I am very confident that when I go have my hair hair colored, cut, or styled the end result is going to be fabulous. It's a great feeling to go in and be able to trust your stylist and I can definitely say this about Sandy. The atmosphere is nice and relaxing and there is plenty of parking. There is no question that I will recommend Sam and Bill's to everyone I know!

I have just recently started getting my haircut at Sam and Bill's by Erin. I have never been to a salon and actually expected to continue seeing a specific stylist until now. Not only was the salon's atmosphere extremely inviting as well as the rest of the staff, but Erin was very professional as well as friendly and listened to every word I said about the style I was aiming for. Her sense of humor is not like any other I have come across before, she is hilarious. I truly will never go to another stylist, I trust her completely...and am hooked for life. Plus I was so impressed that she does hair for American Idol, that is awsome!!!

Erin has been cutting my hair for two years. I have baby fine, fly-away, unmanagably thin hair. After I get out of Erin's chair, I am transformed. I never thought that I would be able to have short hair but Erin cut it short and it always looks fabulous! I love giong to Sam & Bill's. The entire staff is sweet and chatty, I always feel like a princess. Thank you Erin, you're the best!

The world needs more stylist like Erin. When I first started going to Erin over three years ago, I wore my hair short, but always used hot rollers and quite frankly it dated me. One day, I asked Erin for something different, but profesional as I own my own business and needed to keep my image intact. Erin gave me an absolutly awesome short, spikey, sassy style. She then re-did my color adding lowlights and highlights to my hair.
It is so awesome to go out to stores and get stopped by people who complement my hair and always ask who did it. For anyone who wants a truly awesome style, who wants someone that listens to your wants and needs, Erin is the stylist for you. I recommend her to my clients and they are always thrilled!
Thanks Erin for taking years off of my appearance!!! You have a client for life!

Erin has colored my hair on two different occasions, and I've been pleased with the results. Someone else had been cutting my hair, which is short and spiky. I joked with Erin once, "I wonder what would happen if you cut my hair." I was just joking, really. Not everyone likes to cut straight, fine hair. Well, now I know. I have waited a week since the cut before writing this, to see if I'd feel any better. I have never felt so NOT listened to and was totally embarrassed to go to work the next day. My hair responds well to razor cuts, but I really prefer to have some hair left when it's all over. I asked Erin to take it a little shorter, but she took it to an extreme. I asked her to leave it "fringy" around my face; I now have no hair around my face. I asked her to keep a jagged edge in back without a straight line, and I got a straight line. My hair doesn't have any "style" at all, and I ended up with just a notch below a buzz cut. This is the worst type of experience anyone with short hair can have, and I regret that in spite of being pleased with my color, I will never return to Sam and Bill's.

I am a professional golfer & stay busy traveling across the country year round. I always wait until I come home between events to get my hair cut at Sam & Bills. I don't trust anyone while I am on the road.

Recently I had a really important meeting with a possible sponsor.... I hadn't had my hair cut in a while and it was looking unkept. I called my hairstylist and got in for an appointment the day before my big meeting! She gave me a great professional, clean cut look. Some may think its just hair but I think it made a huge difference at my sponsorship meeting. I ended up landing an expense paid three year contract! What was the first thing my sponsor said when I arrived? You look very nice tonight, did you get your hair cut? YES, Yes I did. Thanks Sam & Bills

Three stylists from Sam and Bill's Hair designs donated services for a NCSU fashion show that I designed for. They closed their part of the studio early (on a friday--their busiest day!) created amazingly unique hair designs for 8 models! They worked so hard to cater to the customers and make us feel welcome. The salon itself was so cute! They made the models feel great, they made them look great, and they really helped to make my part of the show a great success. Erin, Stephanie, and Shanna do great updos and beautiful hair designs! We all got so many compliments, thanks to the salon! A++++++++++

I've been to barbar shops and salons accross the triangle for years now and I have recieved at best...good service. I'm in the service industry myself, so I feel that I may have higher standards. I had a customer of mine recommend that I try Sam and Bill's Hair Design and I WAS BLOWN AWAY!!! I have received similar hair cuts at other salon's for the same price but the customer service was unparelled. I recieved a very welcoming greeting by the receptionist, my stylist was very personable and I can't wait to return! Very comfortable, very talented and very professional, Thanks for the GREAT experience!!

I got a lopsided cut, had to deal with inconsiderate staff and when I tried to talk to the manager, got totally blown off - no apology, no offer to get it fixed. I thought that it just had to grow out a little in order to look good but it just grew out more and more asymmetrically. It may have been that they styled it in a specific way at the salon and unless you style it the exactly same way, with the same products, it's going to look strange or crooked. That could have explained the haircut but nothing could excuse the rude and inconsiderate treatment. Definately a huge disappointment.

After recently moving here from Atlanta, my husband and I first tried another hair salon. Bad idea. I tried Sam and Bill's first and went to Sandy Brown. I'm proud to be sporting a "Raleigh bob" with the BEST haircolor I've had in years. My husband went a few days later to Shanna and had the same review of the salon. I will continue going to Sandy Brown as long as she's in business! Two days after I had my hair done, I was in a recruiter's office looking for a job. She immediately complemented me on my hair, and asked where I got it done. As silly as it may sound, feeling good about how your hair looks goes a long way towards lifting your mood. I've been happy ever since, plus I got a job 3 days later!!! Welcome to Raleigh!!!

I have been going to Sam and Bills for 2 years and I love it so much!!! Erin has been giving me the best haircuts I have ever had in my life. I recomend anyone go there. My wife gets her hair done by Erin every month and she looks younger and younger every time. I highly recomend Sam and Bills and if Erin has an opening get in with her, you won't be sorry!

Sam & Bills is great! I have been going there for years and people always comment on how good my hair looks and ask where I get it cut and colored. My whole family goes to Sam & Bills and we all use Jessica!!! We love her. The atmosphere is great, its located in an old renovated house so you feel at home and there is fresh coffee and muffins in the mornings. You have to try Sam & Bills!!!!

Sam and Bill's is the best salon in the Triangle! The stylists there LISTEN to what you want and oh! do they deliver! It truly is a place to call home. They know their stuff! Whether you are looking for color or just the right style - they will take care of you. Convenient location, knowledgable staff and great products! Give them a chance to show you your best look!

I got a gift certificate to go here. The first floor is small and crowded, and I felt the hairdresser, while ok, was one I wouldn't make the trip for. But the counter staff was a bit attitutidnal.

I tell 'em Sam and Bill's. And I found them by asking someone whose hair I liked. Staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and current. I see a wide variety of customers and styles there. Stylist/owner Sandy listens to me, goes as conservative or as spunky as I ask; I don't have to be afraid. I've been very pleased with my cuts.

Without a doubt, the best cut, color, style and service I have EVER had. They know what they are doing here. Erin was my stylist and is so fabulous! You should see her portfolio of "befores" and "afters". I never knew my hair could look so good! Is is a very friendly atmosphere and all the employees seem so happy to work there. It's more like going to hang out with friends and looking fabulous when you leave! If you want to look your best, go to Sam and Bill's!

This place was wonderful. I felt completely at home and welcomed even upon my first visit. All of the stylists are completely competent. After searching for a great stylist and someone to correctly highlight my hair, I finally found the place!!! I have gotten so many compliments on my hair and would never switch!
