I had been to Lava Bistro with co-workers a couple of times and my wife had just gone recently with a friend. She really enjoyed it and mentioned that there was a Sunday brunch and would like to go for Mother's Day. So my two sons and I took her there yesterday. There was an omelet station, a breakfast buffet (self serve), a lunch station and a desert area. We went through the breakfast buffet and overall the food was okay not great, some items were cold and the french toast had sat there too long. When the check arrived I was very surprised to see a bill for $158.00 for 4 people ($28 per adult). Part of the bill included a $24.50 service fee and we even went through the self serve buffet. I was very close to wanting to speak to the manager but let it go. Just wanted to warn you about the extra charge for the Sunday brunch, very overpriced for what you get. Needless to say there will be no more brunches for us there. Pewter Rose does a better job in that respect. By the way, it took a long time to get something to drink as well.

Pros: Nice Setting, food is very good

Cons: Overpriced Sunday Brunch

We hosted a luncheon after our child's baptism at Lava Bistro. The food and service were both outstanding. We enjoyed walking around the pond outside and feeding the ducks as well.

This is a gem in the University area! Every time I I'm here, the service and food is great! They serve a wonderful brunch buffet every Sunday with a wide variety of items. To ensure you get in or to avoid a long wait, I highly recommend making reservations. Atmosphere is nice any time you go. You can dine outside on the patio by the lake or dine inside on the main level or upstairs. The lunch and dinner menus have a little bit of everything on it. From seafood to pasta to steak and chicken with sandwiches available during lunch. They also have a kids menu to accommodate small children.Since this is in a strip mall, finding a parking space can be a little tricky especially on the weekends and during the holidays.

My sweetie and I came here for Valentine's Day, although it wasn't the first time, it just as nice. The atmoshere is so romantic. The Charleston shrimp and grits is to die for. They even gave the ladys roses for V-Day.

I took my wife to Lava Bistro for our wedding anniversary. The restaurant is located at University Shoppes on the Lake nearby to several other restaurants. It was a warm evening and we knew we wanted to go somewhere that had outdoor dining. With a deck overlooking the lake, this was the ideal place.

It was a Wednesday evening and just to be safe we made a reservation earlier in the evening -- a good thing too as the place was bustling when we arrived to eat at 7pm.

Before we arrived I had checked out the restaurant's website and this actually disturbed me a little as it was so amateurishly put together. However the menu looked wonderful and my taste-buds won me over.

When we arrived, we were warmly greeted and were then promptly seated by our friendly waitress. We walked past the bar which was busy (no doubt because of the half-price appetizers they serve at the bar up to 7pm).

The wine list was very extensive and reasonably priced and we were spoiled for choice with the appetizers.

The menu comprised various seafood, vegetarian and carnivorous options.

Wine service was efficient and our food order was taken quickly.

For my appetizer, I went with the baked brie which was served with cranberries and fresh-baked foccacia bread -Mmmmm!. My wife went with the calimari which she really enjoyed. Be warned -- servings were huge.

Entrees were the Grilled Tuna with Miso Glaze, Soba Noodle Salad, and Baby Bok Choy and I had the Brown Sugar & Chili Rubbed Boneless Pork Chops with Garlic Cream Potatoes,
Sauted Julienne Vegetables, Bacon Balsamic Demi Glace, and Cranberry Relish. Both were as delightfully tasting as they sounded. Servings were large but manageable.

We shared a cappucino and amerreto icecream bomb for dessert - plenty big enough for two people.

Service throughout was excellent and the manager made a point of greeting each table and asking how everything was.

We would definitely like to return and try other menu items.

PROS: Great Menu. Nice location on lake.
CONS: None

The incredible atmosphere is bettered the food and impecible service at the University location. The view from the patio is awesome - relaxing and beautiful. The wine list stands with the best around. And the value of the meal is untouchable. I highly recomend this place. My wife and I feel very comfortable taking the kids there.

Who can beat the stone oven pizzas or the garlic mashed potatos? For fine casual dining, this is the best place. Their wine & beer selection is outstanding when paired with a hot summer evening on their patio. Not much more you could ask for!
