I love these ladies. I first went to Moshi Moshi on a recommendation from a friend about 3 years ago. I picked Juliana at random and she didn't let me down. I had had my hair cut by 2 people my entire life, my mother and our small town

I saw Kaitlin sometime ago for cut and color. The color was not good, and I was extremely unhappy with it. I went to someone else to have it fixed afterward. In addition, she is a gossip. Friends who also went to her came back to me (they did not like their hair either) told me that she was gossiping to them about things that I had told her while having my hair done. She did a poor job and the gossiping is extremely unprofessional.

I have gone here since 2008, I normally see either Juiliana or Karen, but recently I went to Jess. Jess royally screwed up my hair, not only did I ask for trim and lost about 3 inches off my length but I was also given these awful short

This is such a cute place! It always made me smile as I walked by their window display, so I finally decided to check it out. I set up my appointment online-- I enjoy it when I can avoid unnecessary human interaction-- and I chose Jess

I recently went to Moshi Moshi in hope for a great highlight for summer. However, i left with a choppy mullet with trailor trash highlights! My hairstylist was named Jess (Jessica) and she was new. DON`T GO TO JESSICA, SHE IN TERRIABLE! I cry everyday when i get ready because i cant do anything with mny mullet of a haircut. The worst part is, is i didnt even want my haircut. She told me that she wanted to clean up my layers in the back...and now i cant even get my hair in a ponytail! My confidence is so low beacuse of this. Jessica should lose her License for this one! I would recommend the garden salon off of Erwin Rd. By all means PLEASE PLEASE do not go here!

Julianna is a great stylist. Womans hair cut (including bangs) was 30 bucks..great price, great quality cut. Cool, funky little salon. Parking can be an issue as it is mostly on the street but it is located right on W. Franklin so it is easy access from most places. Hightly recommend this salon and Julianna

I walked into the salon not knowing what I wanted and I walked out with an awesome haircut! I had a great experience from start to finish. My stylist, Jess, was friendly and had some mad hair skills. I was impressed with my cut and I've received tons of compliments since my visit. I've never been a repeat customer to a salon before, but I will definitely go back to Moshi Moshi.

I got a haircut by Mary at Moshi Moshi. She listened to what I wanted and gave me some great suggestions and she did a fantastic job! I highly recommend Moshi Moshi (and Mary)! I've shopped around a bit in Chapel Hill for a salon and hadn't found anywhere that I liked until Moshi Moshi. Prices are pretty reasonable, especially considering the location and the amount of time they spend with you.

This is the best hair salon I have ever been in! I was greeted promptly by a smiling face, and was seen promptly. My hairstylist(Catlin) was funny and intuitive, and helped guide me to the perfect cut! She was very professional and gave great advice. Definitely, Moshi Moshi is a place to recommend to your friends, and Catlin was amazing! I would trust ANYONE here to cut my or my friends hair.

After reading the (mostly) good reviews on Moshi Moshi, I was excited to get my hair cut with Catlin. However, I was soon disappointed. Not only did she completely ignore me while she cut and colored my hair - stopping to chit chat with other stylists and answering the phone twice - my hair cut and color were BAD, just awful. She refused to listen to my concerns and suggested that I let her have another go at it. I decided to go somewhere else to get it re-done. I should've known I was in for trouble when I saw Catlin's dry and brittle hair. I don't see how this place stays in business.

PS - I wish someone would suggest Catlin invest in some deodorant. She smelled like she came right from the gym.

I discovered Moshi Moshi by asking a total stranger with a really nice haircut who cut her hair! I had been looking for a good stylist and have not been disappointed with Catlin. She is professional, does not keep me waiting for my appointments, and does a fantastic job with my hair. I love the online booking option and the atmosphere of the salon. I have referred several of my friends here and they are pleased with the cuts and color they have gotten.

I made an appointment three weeks in advance for Moshi Moshi. It was going to be a first appointment. I had an important event I was attending so I sheduled in advance. Two days before my appointment they called to cancel saying the stylist had a family emergency. I called back expecting to be squeezed in with someone else who was covering for the stylist. They offered me a Friday appointment which I could not do because of work. I let her know I had an important event. She said they could squeeze me in with a trainee to do my color but they could not do my cut. I told her this wouldn't work for me. Out of nowhere she says "well I am sorry you can't understand the stylist father is dying that you were sheduled with." I had no idea what the emergency was and she dropped that snide comment on me. THen she hung up on me. I called her back and told her that I thought she was being very unprofessional. A proper salon would offer coverage for the poor girl who is out. Besides for all I knew she was out with a sick child and she tries to lay the guilt trip on me about the girl's dad dying and then hangs up on me. I asked to speak to a manager when I called back and the girl who hung up on me said she was the manager. SCARY. I had no idea about the stylist who was out and what her problem was. Her co-workers could have handled this situation in a more professional manner. So, I was turned off this salon before I ever got to try it. RUDE STAFF. Will cancel on you at the last minute.

I have lived in Chapel Hill for many years and been a patron of Moshi Moshi for almost as long. When I moved here I did some searching and the only salon to fit was Moshi Moshi. The employees are amazingly nice and work wonders for you. I have never been disappointed. Moshi Moshi is a unique feel and decor. They aren't a chain and only employ a limited number of stylists. If your looking for the kind of place where everyone is the same and no one stands out, this isn't your place. Every stylist has a unique sense of style. It didn't take long for them to figure out which stylist was best for me. I have long wished for a place like Moshi Moshi and dread ever having to relocate, I may never find a better place. If you want a professional stylist that is a real person, this is your place.

This is a really cute salon in downtown Chapel Hill. I got a great haircut and felt comfortable with my stylist. I especially loved that they have online booking which made it so easy to make my appointment with my busy schedule.

I am new to Chapel Hill, NC and was looking for a great place for a haircut - Moshi Moshi did not disappoint me. Julie was great with my long, thick, curly, coarse hair (and not many people are). I went from long (mid back) to shoulder length and she was able to remove the weight and frame my face really well. She listened to what I wanted and did just that, she also gave me several recommendations and sent me home with a few product samples. The atmosphere is cute - its a small shop (with a little area of jewelry, perfumes, styling products and purses), trendy but not so much as to make you feel uncomfortable. Overall I was really happy with my visit to Moshi Moshi and I will definitely return.

Rhonda is the best esthetician I've ever met. Funny, gentle, and just plain nice - I would recommend her over and over again. She calmed me down for my first ever visit to "the chair" and t'weren't nothing.

AMAZING. I can't wait to get my hair done here !

I have been going to some of the women at Moshi Moshi for haircuts since before they were at Moshi Moshi. Because of the care that the stylists I have used at Moshi Moshi put into my hair, I have no doubt that all of the other stylists use just as much care with their clients. The atmosphere in the salon is upbeat, there is never any pressure, and when you ask about potential hair styles you get honest answers. I have never had a bad haircut. If you want to be able to just walk into a salon and have the stylist copy a haircut out of a magazine, then this place is not for you....and that's a great thing, because most likely that haircut in the magazine isn't going to work with your hair anyway! If you want stylists who take the time to listen to what you are looking for, what you like and don't like, and give their opinions on what will work for you and your hair...as well as do it with no pressure at all...then this is exactly the place for you!

My boss recently had a facial from Moshi Moshi and she looked absolutely radiant for days after. I have had my hair cut and colored since it opened, but I am now tempted to visit the new esthetician on staff. I have never regretted a single cut/color. From my own experience and based on a decent amount of eavesdopping while in the chair, I have always found everyone there to be welcoming, attentive, honest and creative. One last thing, I love the selection of hard-to-find-but-worth-it products.

I have been several times for a hair cut with Mary - she is very good - I would highly recommend her! My only problem with the salon is that they really hurry you through your appointment - Mary only seemed to have 15-20 minutes alloted to cut my hair before her next appointment and she didn't have time to straighten it. I really don't fault her - I got the sense it was more of a salon policy....I'm used to a bit more TLC/time from my stylist. All that aside- great place, great people.

I made an appointment with Moshi Moshi at 7.30 tonight for a hair cut. On its appointment reminder, it says: my appointment will last until 8:00. When I was right outside of its door at 7:45, I got a call from them saying they cannot keep my appointment because I was 15 minutes late. I know being late is wrong, but as a new mom with a 3-week old baby, there's just things that out of my control. I tried to explain my situation to the girl but she did not want to hear anything I say and even lectured me:" you can't be 15 minutes late and expect us to keep your appointment!" If that's the case, why they promised to keep my appointment until 8:00????
I live really far from Moshi Moshi, choosing them simply because of my friend's recommendation about how friendly they are. Well, obviously they couldn't care less about me, and lied about keeping my appointment until 8:00.
I know their business are doing very well, but without a caring heart for their customers and a consistent policy, How good the business can be?????
Now, I just got back home after 1 hour drive, feeling really disappointed and sad.

Moshi Moshi was great. The people there are very helpful. I had an appointment with Karen. I had long, shapeless hair and I wanted to keep it long but make it look like something. She knew exactly what I wanted and gave me a great cut. I ended up with the hair style that I had been picturing in my head but wasn't sure if it would work out for me. She made it work. It's a simple style, but it frames my whole face better and I just feel prettier because of it. I also found out later that my sister always goes to Karen for her cuts, and my sister's hair is very short and much edgier and more complicated than mine, and she always has great hair styles. Karen is great and everyone at Moshi Moshi is friendly.

The stylists at Moshi Moshi are the best anywhere. I went there with only a vague idea of what I wanted to do with my hair and the stylist helped me figure it all out. I left feeling and looking great. I highly recommend Moshi Moshi for its, cool vibe, awesome Franklin Street location, and its terrific stylists. Trust me, you will like your hair.

i got an awful haircut; it's nothing like i asked for and it wasn't even styled all the way. i made it even once i got home, at least, but still have been too embarrassed to leave my house. the place is cute and the people are sweet but i'm really, really disappointed, especially after hearing such great things.

I have been coming to moshi moshi for the past year and have always had a good experience. I have used both Karen and Courtney as my colorists depending on who is available based on my crazy work schedule. I like the fact that everyone seems to work as a team and I don't feel awkward if i need to change from one person to the next. They also sell original products that I have not seen anywhere else.

I love going to Moshi Moshi for my haircuts. It is hands down the best I've ever been to. With that said, you should know that any fancy salon haircut is going to cost at least $40. This is just about the standard rate no matter what salon you go to. If you expect mastercuts prices, go to mastercuts.

Also, if all you want is a simple style (like the ones in mastercuts window or just a blunt cut) then don't bother to pay the extra to go to a fancy salon, moshi moshi or otherwise. The great thing about this salon is that they know how to do cutting edge (pardon the pun) styles and I've never experienced anyone better with razoring my thick hair than Catlin. If you'd rather have a "safe" haircut that's really just like everybody else's then I would suggest you say so or go elsewhere, if you say "do whatever you think would look good" you'll probably get something that isn't plain jane. I think that pretty much comes with the territory though.

When I move, I just might keep coming back to Chapel Hill to get my haircut at Moshi.

Well, I just had the worst color and service of my life. I walked in with a picture of what I wanted: apricot hair with blond highlights but instead I left with dark brown hair in the back and bright blond in the front - two toned, ugly and unlike the picture I brought in. Even worse is how I was treated. Catlin inappropriately suggested that other personal things in my life must be going wrong and that is why I do not like my hair and she defiantly tried to convince me that my hair looked like the picture (2 other salons and all of my friends disagree). At first, my stylist offered to come in early to fix my hair, but then changed her mind and refused to correct my hair with highlights, telling me I had to wait a week or go elsewhere. The salon also made me pay $85 for hair that I had to pay 120$ to correct. I left unsatisfied and will not be returning.

As the owner of Moshi Moshi, I would like to take an opportunity to respond to "seriously dissapointed in service" by stating with what we did do for you.
We provided you our expertise and honesty about your initial color choices, taking the time to give you a consultation days beforehand. We treated you with kindness when you were initially upset and offered to stay late or come in the next day, even if it was not our normal hours which you declined even when Karen offered to come in as early as 6am the next morning. We were willing to put valued customers aside to accommodate your time constraints and discounted their services because we knew that their time was valuable. And, most importantly, we left you with a very nice color that looked good and was very close to the picture which you yourself provided. I think that that demonstrates a high level of customer care.
I have been a stylist for 15 years and I have done many corrections and seen some horrendous color jobs through that time. Warm brown with blond is not a correction. I would never have let you leave with hair that needed to be corrected. I am also sorry that you were dissapointed but I stand behind what we did and I especially stand behind my stylists and know that they, and especially Karen, care about what they produce in the salon and put effort into building relationships with clients.
We do not give discounts for that.

Thanks for hearing me out,
Catlin

Well, I just had the worst color job of my life.. and after a consultation! Although that is bad in and of itself, worse is how I was treated. Catlin seriously lacks customer care skills. She inappropriately suggested that other personal things in my life must be going wrong and that is why I do not like my hair. Only after I told her that was inappropriate did she apologize. I ended up drying my own hair with a dryer on an extension cord in the back of the salon while Karen, my stylist, moved onto her next customer without saying goodbye. Both stylists assured me that they loved my hair (shouldn't it be the customer that likes the hair?), defiantly disregarding the fact that I left unsatisfied and my hair looked unlike the picture I brought in. After first offering to come in early in the morning to correct the problem, Karen changed her mind and refused to correct my hair with highlights, telling me to wait a week and that if I wanted highlights that I would have to go elsewhere. The salon made me pay $85 for hair that I had to pay 120$ to correct because it was dark brown instead of apricot (the color in the picture I brought in). The two salons I went to for advice regarding corrective color were appalled at the difference between what I received and the picture I brought in. It saddens me that I don't like my hair, but what is worse was how I was treated. I will not be going back.

Pros: funky place

Cons: horrible and inappropriate customer service, required payment when unsatisfied, defiant behavior when asked for a refund

I have been getting hair cuts and color from Caitlin for many years. Before Caitlin there never seemed to be any real options for a decent haircut since I have frizzy wavy bad hair. I like to change my look often and Caitlin is full of new ideas. She is always honest and tells me right away if she does not think a style would work for me. I usually just let her do whatever she wants with great results. I have recommended Moshi Moshi many times to friends and family. It is a fun and relaxing salon and I always look forward to my appointments. I also highly recommend Becky who does my eyebrow tinting and waxing. Becky is kind and gentle and always does a great job.

Moshi Moshi has an admittedly great atmosphere and nice staff, but that doesn't matter if you walk out with a haircut nothing like what you asked for. It will take months for this expensive and totally unflattering haircut to grow out. I am more than a little upset and disappointed. I will not be returning.

I have been going to Moshi Moshi since it opened and am very happy with all it has to offer. They have a great variety of hard to find products that are fun to play with at home but there is no pressure to buy them. I get the waxing services and my sensitive skin has never been irritated. I get my hair cut and colored by Catlin and am always pleased. She always manages to find some way to make my hair look a little different which can be hard to do when I have been going to her for so long. I think her prices are reasonable for her expertise and creativity. I was referred to her by a friend and have referred others to her. We are all different ages, all have different hair types, and have different styles and she manages to make us all happy! Before Moshi Moshi, I went from hair salon to hair salon and now I am so glad to have a place to go where I know I will have a pleasant experience.

Pros: atmosphere, service, products, evening and Saturday hours

The first time I went in there was just for a consultation. We talked about the different options for my hair (which I wanted colored but was kind of damaged). The stylist (I think her name was Caitlin?) was very knowledgable and super-friendly. I appreciated her honesty and opinion, and I think she kept me from making a mistake on the color choice. She sent me home with a moisturizing treatment (for free!) and when I came back for my color appointment, she did an absolutely incredible job. I LOVE my new color and stylish cut- feel like a new person!

As a side-note, the energy of the salon was very upbeat and friendly- conversation bounced around the room and everyone seemed funny and inviting. I will definitely come back, it was SO worth the money. My stylist's skills made me feel pretty again! I highly recommend this salon.

Pros: highly skilled stylists, fun atmosphere

Cons: that I can't go there every day

Very cute place! The atmosphere is very fun---kind of retro trendy. It's in a very convenient location on Franklin Street. Stylists seem to know what they're doing and I got a good cut--a little shorter than I wanted, but very cute and I was happy with it. There wasn't any product pushing. They did have some really fun products, but they were expensive. It was no pressure, very relaxing.

Moshi Moshi means hello, but to me it also means satisfaction. I live in Savannah, Ga, and I am willing to drive the whole 5 hours it takes to get to chapel hill just to get my hair cut/colored. Not only is the atmophere fun but, the hair dye they use is like liquid gold. I don't know what it is, but this stuff leaves your locks glistening like a brilliant cut stone. Oh, and thats not all, the color doesn't fade and your hair is still shining months after, looking like you just came out of the salon. I am also very impressed with the cut Sarah gives me. I can't imagine going anywhere else again. Give it a try you'll see.

Getting your hair cut at Moshi Moshi is a fun little excursion from your day. Catlin is a highly experienced stylist who can create a look that will suit you whether your want a corporate cut or would rather stray from the usual and funk it up. I've had color, trims and full-on hair cuts at Moshi and have always been extremely pleased with the results. The staff is friendly and there is no salon attitide. Better yet, the cuts are reasonably priced and there is never that horrible pressure to load up on expensive products. (Rita is also a wonderful stylist that I have used.)
