I think the customer service with the company is very poor. There was an add on the web site for three free tans, and it didnt say anything about when you buy tans, and the customer service rep on whitehall was very unhelpfull and rude. I will never spend my money there.

While I realize that it is in every business's best interest to sell as much as possible, I think it's pretty sleazy to completely fool the customer. I told the Store Manager exactly what I wanted, why I was tanning (just to get a base tan), and asked for the least amount of time. I was given the usual pitch and shown the packages. When I asked again if this was the least amount of time I could purchase I was assured that one month was the least amount of time. I was also told that I could tan at any of the locations across the country. It turns out that not only is that not true (unless you have a membership), but I also could have paid for a three visit package. When I explained this to the Store Manager at the University location, I was told that they are trained to sell the biggest package possible. That's understandable, but it's a different matter to completely ignore the customer's needs. It would have been a much better deal to go to Peak Fitness and use the tanning beds there.

I tried Planet Beach at Whitehall because I saw a coupon for three free tans, and it is near my office. I went, told them what I wanted, they tried to push me to get a $99 a month package. I explained my situation, said that I am going on vaca and that is the only reason I was there tanning, and she still insisted that the $99 package was the best for me (ok, no..but whatever). READ THE FINE PRINT...each of the membership packages is for 24 months. So if you do the $99/month package, you are looking at $2,400, just to tan. (insane!).

They try to push the $99 package, because it includes unlimited tanning and "spa" services, like a facial, and other hydro-spa services, which "make your tan last 5 times as long." I wondered why, if your tan would last 5 times as long, you would still need to have a $99/month unlimited tanning service. I also wondered why anyone in their right mind would let someone who worked at a tanning salon give them a facial. Oh well.

The staff, however, pushy, was very nice. The beds are clean, and there are radios/cd players for each bed. Take your own eyeware, or else tell them you have it. They make you buy them if you don't have any with you.

I will use my three free tans, and then never go back, because it is outrageously expensive.

Horrible home units, or should I say, worst than a home unit. In fact my friend bought a bed from the same manufacture. These beds were bad ! They are cheap, and I got no color. Don't mess around with salons like this. There are some big boys out there with great beds (Ergoline-Soltron)and great prices. The help looked like they were going to a bar and developed attitudes when I told them, I did not want their so called spa treatment. I just wanted to tan. Many places sell other things because they don't rank high in their existing business. I basically asked them if they were that bad in tanning that they had to give away things to get me to buy a tan. I WAS RIGHT !!! Just because a salon has new paint, doesn't mean they are experts in tanning. I will only tan at salons with Ergoline beds in the future. Check the web on these beds.

Not sure what bhanson is talking about...I've had nothing but great experiences at Planet Beach Whitehall. Old management kept the lotions behind the counter; new ownership and management stopped this practice back in August for the reasons that the customer stated. Also, not everyone purchases sessions - I have a plan where I pay a low monthly rate and get to tan and use spa equipment unlimited, so it's incorrect to say that "we all purchase sessions." I always make appointments there; it only makes sense.

The staff is friendly and helpful; I appreciate the fact that they're trying to help me get the most out of my membership instead of just throwing me in a bed like most places do. They always greet me by name and ask how my day is going; I feel like they care.

New ownership and management has really upgraded the equipment and added lots of cool new pieces, which I like. They also change the bulbs in the tanning equipment frequently, unlike other, less scrupulous places.

I have been to several tanning salons in the area and have never been as pressured to buy products or upgrades as I was at Planet Beach. The only reason I went there was because it was convenient to where I worked. The management seemed only to be interested in sales. There was also a lot of pressure to make an appointment to tan but limited availability for walk-ins yet I had purchased 25 sessions and it was very difficult to get in. I felt that everyone should be treated the same. We all purchase sessions. Also for some reason they are holding customers tanning products as a courtesy in plastic bins behind the front counter, which only SLOWS down the whole process of getting a bed to tan in a timely manner as they are so busy trying to find customers personal tanning baggies!!!! Sorry, but I would go tan somewhere else that is more professional, not intimidating or pushy with their products and upgrades. If I want an upgrade or a new product I will ask for one.

I just moved to the Charlotte area and found Planet Beach off Tryon. I love tanning and they have got to be the best and cleanest place I have ever tanned. The employees were so nice and helped me find everything I needed. Unlike many other tanning places, Planet Beach taught me about what was best for me and guided me through every level of tanning (even though I have tanned for the last five years, I found it very helpful). It was kind of hard to find but totally worth it.

I have been tanning for over 10 years and I have to say Planet Beach at Whitehall is the best salon I have seen. It is really nice inside, they have really good beds and they are very friendly. I have recommended them to a lot of my friends and we all agree.
