The food was pretty good, but the portion size was enough for my 2 year old! I ordered the filet steak with spinach. It looked like there was a teaspoon of spinach underneath the little steak. Was not worth the amount that we spent for what we got. I was still hungry after I left & I had dessert. Very nice atmosphere, but portion sizes need to increase before I return for the amount that I spent!

I have been to Red Room a few times, but the latest visit was the first time we had ordered food. Beautiful evening, so sat outside - able to get our "people watching" on. Overall, a decent atmosphere. They had some sangria specials, but we stuck to beer and wine - which was fine. Our server was excellent - returned with the right frequency, knew the menu and specials well and just seemed on top of it.

Food - They say 2-3 tapas person is sufficient, and we ordered 4 tapas and a flatbread - figuring that would be enough. We are not large portion eaters - we would have been fine with just 3-4 tapas. The shrimp in the ceviche seemed frozen, dips were ok, eggplant roulade was good and calamari was cooked correctly. Flatbread wasn't very good at all.

Different crowd in the late night though from being here before - overflow from Hi5, which is next door (downstairs)

Overall, this is not a bad place at all - good for a drink outside. Just didn't wow us and given the $$, I expected a little more.

My husband and I have visited Red Room on a number of occasions, sometimes with a group but mostly just the two of us. Each time we've been, we've ordered exclusively from the tapas menu and been extremely pleased with the portion sizes and flavor of the food. Our waitresses have always been knowledgeable and friendly.
My bachelorette party was also held at Red Room and we were seated at the couches, where we had a wonderful time. We also ordered a seafood paella and were THRILLED with it. It's a very large pan, which is also meant to share. Unfortunately, we ordered way too much food for 2 days before a wedding!
I would suggest the papas brava and the steak churrasco, as they were hands-down favorites of everyone we have taken over the past several months. I'm a personal fan of the mushroom empanada, and my husband really likes the hummus.
If you've never experienced tapas, go on Monday when their tapas menu is half-priced.

Food, and service was pretty good. After 11 pm you might want to head somewhere else. Pretty rough crowd.

I love this place, great atmosphere, excellent tapas, and a nice patio. The spinach and feta dip is certianly the best I've ever had....you must try it! their waitstaff is hit or miss.....weekend crowd can get in the way of a nice dinner, but this shouldn't deter a visit!

I recently went to the Red Room for the first time and was absolutely charmed by the place. I loved the whole idea of the tapas lounge and the ambiance that accompanied it to fit the downtown night scene. When I was having trouble picking from the list of mostly Spanish wines, our waitress spoke with us for several minutes before recommending the perfect bottle for our table. We will definitely be back soon!

My friends and I recently went to the Red Room. The restaurant/bar is a very cool lounge and nightspot whose Spanish twist brings a posh, yet eclectic feel to it. It was nice out, so we sit on the side patio that is right alongside Glenwood Avenue and shared some good wine and delicious tapas. It??s the perfect place to hang out and have a light meal/snack and a couple of drinks, and be a part of a different environment than your typical college bar scene. The servers were very friendly and helpful when it comes to suggesting food and drinks, as not everyone is familiar with the concept of tapas. Oh, and the sangria is amazing!

Love the atmosphere here. Great decor and music. Service is top-notch. Recently they went 100% smoke-free, even in the bar...major plus!
Food is very tasty...Spanish-inspired food but creative with various flavors from all over. Never had a bland meal here, and it seems they keep getting better.

Price-wise, it depends what you order. For a table of two, we got a shrimp ceviche appetizer, shared a big tasty goat cheese salad, and then split a half-pan of veggie paella....all for under $35 for the two of us, and we left too-full for dessert!

Drinks are pricy though...so that will definitely raise your tab. But it may just be worth it...the blueberry-lemon sangria is the best I've ever had.

I have been to the Red Room before and have never had a problem. I guess that is because I have never ordered a drink before, usually being the "DD". I understand that the bartenders are busy but they can still be friendly. I ordered my first drink and everything was fine. I go to the bar to order my second drink ( the same drink as last time) and I am charged a totally different amount (a higher amount). I tell the bartender that it is different and just happen to have kept my receipt from the last drink and show her. She tells me that the other girl must have charged me the wrong price and that she was charging me the right one. I tell her that she needs to explain to me further why they are different before i pay her more for the same drink. She huffs and jerks my card out of my hand and goes just don't worry about it I will change it! Changes the amount to the same amount as before and gives me my new receipt without saying a word to me and giving me this evil look. I say whatever and let it go because I think I have the correct amount charged to my card now. I go to look at my bank statement a few days later and I have not only been charged the argued amount but also the amount she was supposed to change it to! So i got screwed basically. I cannot get in touch with management so that I can speak with someone about this so I guess I will just eat this one. Needless to say I won't be back and will not recommend to anyone.

My girlfriends and I decided to try Red Room Tapas Lounge last week. Once we got there we wondered why we had waited so long to try it. We had a great experience ? their tapas was amazing and really reasonably priced. I have to say their signature sangria was hands down the best I have ever had. The wait staff was helpful and polite. I would recommend this place for anyone who is looking to try some place new!

Red Room is a great place to go salsa dancing on Thursday evenings. There is a free dance lesson from 9-10 and then a wonderful mix of salsa, merengue and bachata music until midnight or later. Around midnight the DJ usually starts mixing in hip hop and other music. The food at Red Room is also great. I love the tapas and they serve until late, not your typical bar food. The service and ambience is excellent. My only complaint is I wish it was a smoke free bar.

Even if the food was terrible and the service was awful, I would still probably love this place just for the decor! As soon as you walk in, you just have to take a second to look around at how cool this place is. But decorations aside, this is still a REALLY great place for a night out on the town. I went there the other night and had the delicious swordfish, something I haven?t seen on many menus in Raleigh. Service was so polite and quick, food was really good, and atmosphere was enthralling. I really recommend this place!

I logged on to write this review and was floored by the previous entry. I couldn't believe that someone else just had the same experience. I am shocked that the server(s) at Red Room gets away with treating customers this way.

Don't get me wrong, I was there with a large group and everyone else did have a good time overall. The server for our table was excellent, very polite and attentive. The music was pretty good (if you like only 5-10 seconds of each song being played).

However, I was walking to my table fairly early in the night before it go completely crowded (which it does...). Keep in mind that I was totally sober (had not even finished my one and only drink for the night). One of the cocktail waitresses yanked me by the arm over to the side and told me that I needed to calm down. I was shocked, of course, and she continued to yell at me about how I was being out of control and pushing through the crowd. The closest person was a good 3 feet in front of me. When I responded that I hadn't pushed anyone, she grabbed me by both shoulders and threatened me. At this point, I told her not to touch me and walked off. So she sent the bouncer over to deal with me. He was asking me about the "incident with one of his servers" and was about to kick me out. However, he was very reasonable and very professional about everything, and accepted when I told him that I understood she was doing her job but that I didn't know what she was talking about.

Long story short, I will never set food in Red Room again and will do my best to pass the word along. Normally, I would have told the waitress off and immediately gotten the manager. In fact, she was so physical that I considered getting the police who were standing outside. The one and ONLY reason I did not, was that I didn't want to spoil my friend's celebration. My night was ruined, but hers didn't have to be.

Pros: Access to 3 clubs

Cons: Cocktail server

Some of the staff is amazing and kind. Others are rude and vindictive. I've been to Red Room both as a diner and as a club hopper. I've gone regularly for almost 3 years, and literally spent thousands there.

On Halloween night, it was very crowded and people were pushing each other around left and right (significantly more people than capacity). Someone pushed my friend from behind, but she held her ground and refused to move. Moments later, the "pusher" said to my friend that she was "trying to work here and I can have the bouncer come kick you out". Turns out the rude pusher was actually an employee. What a way to treat your customers! First, what ever happened to saying "excuse me"? Second, how is she supposed to magically know that you aren't some other drunkard pushing her around? Third, what gives you the right to threaten to kick someone out because you can't handle the crowded environment? We paid a cover and for our drinks. How dare she treat us in that way? I've not been back since.

There are a few cocktail girls who are quite grumpy on a regular basis. The food is delightful, and there are several member of the staff who I adore.

In response to the water issue. Bottled water is $3, but tap water is free. Unfortunately, I have not been able to get anyone at the bar to give me tap water in over a year. They claim it's policy -- I guess they don't want to waste their time filling up water glasses. However, tap water is not free, since it's not available!

We went to Red Room b/c we had a coupon for buy two tapas plates, get two free. However, when it came time to pay, we were informed we couldn't use our coupon and get the drink special- half off a bottle of wine. We had informed our waitress of our coupon as soon as we sat down and she didn't mention that it wouldn't work with the drink special. We never would have ordered a $26 bottle of wine if we had known! We have used these coupons at dozens of restaurants around Raleigh and never been told that we can't use it and take advantage of their "drink" special as well. It's like telling us that we have to choose between $2 drafts or our coupon, or half price sangria or our coupon. I understand if we were combining it with a "food special", but drinks? Come on Red Room, are you that hard up?

We had a great time there this weekend. Music, crowd, service, and drinks were great- no complaints! however, it really ruined it all when they charged $3.00 for cup of water that comes straight out of the tap! I just cant get into that. I think that is very poor customer service, especially when our party spent well over $500.00 there that night.

We had the Sunday night tapas tour about a year ago. (Sorry for the delay in posting!) With a glass of wine each and a tip, we spent over $100 for four people, then went downstairs to eat at High 5 because we were hungry. We have not been able to convince ourselves to go back. The four of us normally have a maximum of 2 appetizers to share before dinner, but instead each essentially had our own $15 appetizer and ate complete meals afterward. The food was good, there just wasn't enough of it.

My girlfriend and I decided to try out something new so we went to Red Room for the first time the other night. We ended up having a really great time taking salsa lessons and it sure didn?t hurt that the Sangria was half off. I would definitely recommend this place if you?re looking for something different from the average restaurant.

My wife and I went with 4 others to Red Room because their food is above average. However, it took a long time for the server to ever bring us drinks. Sometimes the orders were forgotten and we had to reorder several times. I found that every time we ordered, regardless of whether we received our food and drinks, was added to the bill. The worst was, upon looking at the bill, a 25% tip was automatically added to the bill. 25%! Are you kidding? Who adds 25% and then has a place for additional tip. Because they are trying gouge patrons on the bill, this is enough to make me forget their food is above average.

I went there once for dancing, and again for the food. I have to admit, maybe I didn't get the right dish, but the food was not all that appetizing. The dance atmosphere was very relaxing, and mellow. The crowd is mixed which creates an even better atmosphere for those who either want to dance, eat, or just sit at the bar and have some drinks. The idea of having two clubs that coordinate with each other is even better, because when you get tired with one, you can move to the next for no charge! I have to admit, it is nice, but I did notice that the bartenders change the prices on you, so you have to be careful, and watch your money.

The Red Room makes the best "homemade" sangria that I've had in a LONG time. Service was inadequate (we were sitting on the patio - as many other customers were on a very pleasant spring Sunday evening in May). We had to ask another server to take our order and take over from the other one (Ginger). Ginger finally came back, but service never improved.

We still highly recommend the Sangria. We ordered the "traditional version" with sparkling wine. GREAT SANGRIA!

Pros: EXCELLENT sangria! Go for the "traditional" sangria made with sparkling wine.

Cons: Service - almost inexistent.

Our first few experiences were exacting - informed service, unexpected foods and an attention to serving. Lately, though, I've noticed that all the servers recommend one or two of the same dishes without asking what we usually lean toward. We used to be asked, and being vegetarians, this was nice - instead we're blindly told the scallops and pizza are good. The empanadas used to be unexpectedly large with a crisp, light crust. Now they are more like heavy samosas. I did appreciate, and still do, that the staff is very knowledgeable about the wine parings. Even though I think of tapas as a 'bunch of friends ordering food to turn the table into a buffet', the servers now drop the food ordered in front of the person who ordered it, generally confusing new-comers as to the 'share with everyone' atmosphere. The food is still good, the servers kind, and the ambience laid-back, but something is slipping.

Our first few experiences were exacting - informed service, unexpected foods and an attention to serving. Lately, though, I've noticed that all the servers recommend one or two of the same dishes without asking what we usually lean toward. Pros: decent food, great service

Cons: declining overall

It was the worst paella I had in my life and I am from Spain.

They advertise the rice to be imported from Spain but it is not the typical rice used for paella (Calasparra o Bomba). Now, every region of Spain has a different spin on how to make it but these guys are making a rissoto paella, the rice was wet, bloated and sticky, it was barely yellow (maybe they forgot the salsafran). The chicken in it was the typical frozen tenderloin that you buy in bags at Harris Teeter... I am not sure that they defrosted it for long before sticking it in there.

The "Tapas" were ok, the best was the chorizo with green and yellow peppers (the same thing they put in the paella :-) The cheese and meat platters are overpriced but may be OK if you want to try food that you can't usually find at a restaurant around here. But in my opinion, you are better off going to La Tienda (look for it online) and buying it in larger quantities.

Skip the red room... try a "real" place like Tasca Brava on Falls of the Neuse (they are not from Spain either but at least they go there regularly and know how to cook Spanish style meals).

I went out with my girlfriends a couple of times for Thursday night salsa and dinner. The atmosphere is nice, the music is good, and the food is very good (we had some little appetizers, one was the pizza like dish with mushrooms and goat cheese, very good). We also ordered the chocolate fondue both times and the second time it was very hot (and by hot I mean spicy) so we asked the waitress if she could do something and she went back to the kitchen and said there's nothing she can do and was fairly rude about it. We were not satisfied with her 'attempt' to help us out so we did not leave her a tip for she did not deserve it. Then we went out on the dance floor and as she passed by she 'accidentally' ran into me and later she gave my friend a nasty look.

I was missing the "city life" while living in Raleigh NC until I visited the red room. Swanky bar with great environment. Drinks were reasonably price and it was very easy to order a drink at the bar.

I am an attractive Caucasian female and for the second time in two weeks went to Latin night on Thursday, with my Latino friends, and a male was denied entrance for pathetic and blatantly discriminatory reasons.

Last night it was because he was "wearing boots." After pulling up his pant leg to demonstrate that they were in fact, new, clean, shoes, the bouncer said that he couldn't come in because, his "pants were too baggy." I was wearing jeans that were torn around the bottom, old, dirty tennis shoes and a hoodie and they didn't even look twice past my long blonde hair. But, my friend can't get in because his pants are too loose?

unbelievable.

My BF and I wanted to try Red Room after reading the reviews. We told the hostess we wanted to sit out on the patio. Our waitress came by and told us she would be right back. 20 minutes later, she came back and took our drink orders. We decided to place our food order as well. Then we never saw her (or our drinks) again. We sat there for another 30 minutes before we got up and left.

My husband and I strongly recommend Red Room?s Sunday night Tapas Tour. We have gone a few times now and it is always a culinary adventure! For $15 a person, you are served a chef-selected menu consisting of eight tapas, served in four courses, not always offered on the regular menu. Chef Colin?s ideas are inspirational and an excitement to the palate. He is always willing to share some cooking tips if asked and we admire his ability to combine flavors that we had not thought of before. His clams with chorizo steamed in beer a few weeks back were incredible, as were the scallops with asparagus risotto last night. In fact, there have been very few things we?ve tried that we haven?t ?mmmm?d? and ?ahhhh?d? over! The shrimp ceviche is a MUST! The Red Room itself is beautiful and we have always been very pleased with the service. We enjoy sitting at the bar where we can watch the food being prepared and Joseph the bartender is always friendly and attentive. In response to the previous review, we did notice some changes last night. The portions were noticeably larger and there were no restrictions on the number of people required to order the tour. We recommend this to everyone we know!

The Sunday night special you can read about below on another review used to be great. We recently were hosting a party for 8, and had had the all you could eat tapas special a couple of times. Not having been for a while, my wife called to ask if they still had it, and made reservations for 8. Turns out it's now $14.95 for a set course of Tapas. The worst part was they insisted that if only 7 people wanted it, they wouldn't serve it to us. Naturally the person that the selections didn't appeal to insisted we go ahead. The insistance of the restuarant on that rule really struck everyone as poor service up front. When they brought the servings, it seemed they forgot there were 8 ordering. I understand the meaning of tapas and have had them in quite a few places in this country and others - these were small orders. 1/8th of one of these would not have been a "small plate", it would have been a small bite. A the end of the meal, they asked if anyone wanted anything else and 2 people just laughed. We debated stopping at burger king on the way home.

The server was very good, given the contraints she had to work under. The sangria was good as well. The "all you can eat sunday night tapas" has seemed to turn into an expensive appetizer and a hook to order more. The insistance against all logic that the restaurant's convenience came before customer service and not accomodating one person that didn't want the special is what will keep me away from the Red Room.

Rocky Top Hospitality knows how to run a restaurant...............and they do it extremely well with places such as Bogart's, Michaael Dean's, Hi-5 and Twisted Fork. But they've really outdone themselves with The Red Room.

This is one of Raleigh's culinary and entertainment gems. Unique, classy yet casual, outstanding food and beverage offerings at reasonable prices and an elegant space where you can relax and be comfortable. The Red Room is a perfect synergy..............everything good working together to make it a truly exceptional experience.

Great for large groups or an intimate evening for two. Perfection!

I recently visited to the Red Room to try their Tapas Tour for the second time. My first Experience was great. The selection and the size of the portions was wonderful. My girlfriend and I have been trying to get back and enjoy it again but we were unable till recently. The price for the tour is still the same, but the portions have been cut down tremendously. They have cut it back to 8 courses from the amount previously experienced. I actually do not remember a specific amount from the first time. Also I could not believe the portions. The first 5 courses each person had one single sample of something to try. When I say single sample I mean one piece of something(i.e. 1 date, 1 piece of toast, 1 shot glass, etc). The 6th course was one sample that had to be shared between both of us then the last two were the same. The price tag for the evening was well over $40 and I felt like I had not eaten a single thing. I honestly believe that I could have ordered a single tapas from the menu and it would have been more filling. Before leaving I discussed my dissappointment with the manager whom informed me that they are aware of the situation and they are planning to adjust the prices, etc. The problem is they changed the special over 2 months ago and have still not done anything about it. The manager was nice and took good care of us. We then went to 518 West and enjoyed a delicious meal that was cheaper than the small appetizer for two purchased from the Red-Room

I was at the Red Room in Nov and had the best waitress ever...Brandy...I stopped in to visit in late Dec. and found that she had left to go work at another place which is opening soon...1705 Prime. I can't wait to have that kind of service again! Top Notch. The food was good too...but it is rare that you have wonderful service and great food and I thought I found the place to enjoy both...The bar staff can pour a great cocktail!

I love taking my friends to the Red Room. The atmoshpere is great and I love the way that the restaurant is decorated with a hip and romantic feel. The martinis are creative and delicious. The best is Tapas Tasting on Sundays. It's the perfect way to try most of the menu in one sitting and it's a great value. All of the food is delicious.

The food is good, and some of the waitresses seem great but there are a couple of female drink pushers that don't believe women exist (ie they paw the guy, call him sweetheart and totally ignore the female customer). They need a tip themselves - treat all the customers with respect....many times its the female who controls the purse strings, the tip and the decision whether or not to become a return customer!

My friend and I have heard nothing but great things about the Red Room, so we decided to try it. Great choice! We came in on a Wednesday night and they were offering this amazing special. Spanish tapas coursed out and served with half glasses of wine. Not only was the food, wine and service amazing the music was great too! they were offering free salsa lessons as well!! Not only was the decor beautiful the staff and food was also. We had a great time and plan on going back for the late nite scene on the weekends.

I was highly disappointed. First of all, the bouncers are starved for attention. They are type that think they are owners when in all actuality they are employees. The Latin night on Thursday is completely garbage. Small dance floor, food cold, and poor music. Overall this place is for lames & their friends.

This review is more restaurant based then Friday/Saturday night based. If you're going to eat here you can't beat coming on Sunday. Sunday nights they have their "unlimited Tapas" from 6-10. For 15.00 they'll keep bringing tapas to your table until you tell them to stop. We stumbled in on it one Sunday and come back on a quite regular basis. Some of the items are hit or miss-like the guacamole deviled eggs (thumbs up), but the next weeks asparagus and crab meat deviled eggs tested my gag reflex. I recommend calling ahead to ensure they're open-instead of being rented out.

Stumbled in on accident, decided to stay and it was a good choice. The atmosphere is excellent, not a detail is missed, keeping with the Red theme throughout the restaurant. We ordered 4 tapas items, all of wish were wonderful. I highly recommend the stuffed peppers and the spinch feta dip.

My husband and I happened upon this place while looking for a restaurant open on a Sunday evening for an anniversary dinner. We found the Red Room, sat outside, and ordered a tasty Spanish white wine. Each of the tapas we ordered - olives, seafood antipasto, and cheese plate - were excellent, although the antipasto was the best. Shrimp Ceviche was really tasty. Service was good, albeit a little slow. Overall, it was a pleasant surprise for us, and we would definitely go back.

I would not take the time to write this, but the food at the Red Room was absolutely disgusting. There was no flavor, the filet tapas was a joke, the crab dip even more so, scallops tasteless, shrimp were shrunk b/c tehy were over cooked, carpaccio was ok, calamari was ok, we continued to order things, hoping to find something that was good. Our bill for two people was well over $100, with no alcoholic drinks (maybe that would of helped).

Let me say that I had worked in bars and restaurants for around 10 yrs. All over the country, so it isn't that I am not use to this type of food. All I can say is this would have to be in the top 3 worst restaurants I have ever been to. I love Tapas, but this place is not the place to go to.

Great atmosphere but the Thursday night Latin DJ is no bueno. His mixes and transitions are not smooth......no flow. Same stuff every week. Also It takes about 5-10 min to get a drink @ bar, order through a coctail waitress and the drink will come alot faster. Food is great.
